A beautiful and amazing video to listen to and watch God bless you ❤
In 2012, I paid a £10 weekend upgrade to sit in first class travelling with CrossCountry from Oxford to Stoke-on-Trent. Worth every penny when there were hardly any seats in standard class
Love a cheeky first class bargain, G! I recently had to go to the parentals at short notice and a first class upgrade from Redhill to Colchester was only £5 - got a free drink on the second half too :)
Amazing stuff Mr Great Plum 😀
Loved the 'Turbostar Central' description.
GLT love your vlogs! I enjoy traveling vicariously through them. Thank you!
Thanks 😊
Love your enthusiasm G im in my 50's and whenever you post im watching asap
Aw thanks a lot 😀
Excellent G, when I was at Nittingham it was double headed Peaks on a Sunday morning to London. Should av heard them screamig through Long Eaton !!!!
Not only a nice trip, but a sighting of the rare Double Juncted Knicker Hook in the wild
Haha!
Great blog as ever G well that's a nice cup collection I'm impressed 👍😊🤗
Thanks 😀
Great video, impressed by you mug collection. The scarf you were wearing did the pattern also had a railway connection, think it looked like old British Railway
Thanks 😀
A first class video from you as always G 😄🚂
Saturday first is always a good shout, nice that with the food being included it's even better value! I must say your cup collection is looking most impressive, worthy of a display cabinet!
Ey that's an idea!
1:30 it did used to be 3 and 2 - I think it was changed during the change from red to black seating
10:00 I got rid of loads the other day. I should have asked if you wanted them!
I love watching your videos. The trains should be paying you big - they're like adverts!!! Can't believe that price and included food and yes that bar and coffee would fill me up too. Beautiful train. Beautiful scenery. Beautiful videography or however you spell it. (Got the music comment!!!🤣) Love it!!!💕❣💖
Thanks Kristi, it was a very enjoyable ride and I was happy with what I got for my money definitely 😀
@@GLovesTrains 💓
I love watching your videos. They just take me back to the time where I spent some months travelling all over the UK by train, as I had to work and didn't drive back then. I just became fascinated by the network and all the different classes of trains. We weren't allowed to go first class though! Boo! I love a good train journey and I have it on my bucket list to do Malaga, Spain near where I am now, to Doncaster, UK by train (where im originall from).. far more exciting than ryanair! :D
It's a shame I can't recommend interrail but honestly in Spain you apparently can't book them outside Spain and most trains leave full .
Sounds like a fun journey! I did enjoy my train ride to malaga 😀
@@GLovesTrains Yeah its just a shame the madrid to paris overnight sleeper no longer exists as that would have been a cool way to do it!
Great video looked like a comfortable journey well worth the extra money for first class, excellent 👍👍✅✅
Thanks! 😀
Ahh, one of my favourite trips! I used to go back and forth between Nottingham & London a fair bit. I should head to Nottingham sometime in the near-future, just for old times' sake 😌
There's much of interest to see out of the windows during the train journey between London and Nottingham including (but not limited to) the huge airship sheds at Cardington, the British Gypsum mine at Sileby and Sir Thomas Tresham's treasonable Triangular Lodge at Desborough!
Hi G. I used to work for BR then MML and served breakfasts in loco-hauled stock and HST's. Silver-serving is a fine art at speed, especially when the train was taking Wigston Curve, or Trent Junction. In the old days it was common to serve in excess of 100 breakfasts in first class en-route to St. Pancras. 'The Master Cutler' was the premier train and staff were generally very proud to work it.
How things have changed.
Nottingham station footage was great. Great video.
Another great video, love the cups! I like to sit down at 4pm and have a "tea with G"!!
Haha thanks 😀
Great video again G! Have you heard the rumour that Scotrail is eyeing up the Class222 to replace the HST? As Scotrail are also looking to get rid of their HST's this year due to a safety report into the Stonehaven derailment.
Yeah I've not ridden a Scotrail hst yet, I need to do it soon haha
@@GLovesTrains Fair enough. ScotRail can't blame me when the Inter8city are gone and more use their withdrawal as an excuse to switch to using flixbus/ megabus/ Citylink etc
An excellent video and wow it does look amazing travelling first class.
I used to always get the eastern national coach from Nottingham to London which was 2.30 hours. Wished I had known the train was quicker! Thanks G nice Quick Journey.
Some really nice views of Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, particularly the village of Sharnbrook (6:40-6:50). It is interesting that the intercity trains run nonstop between Kettering and London, and there are many arguments as to why they should call at the intermediate towns, but regardless, its cool to speed through straight to London.
I must try first class some time soon as it looks worth the money.
Ah interesting! And I'd recommend trying it out 😄
They all used to stop at Luton and Bedford until Thameslink came along.
Wouldn't be much of an InterCity service if it called at the smaller towns.
@@lewis72 Well it calls at the smaller towns north of Kettering, and with 106,000 and 226,000 people respectively it would be harsh to call Bedford and Luton smaller towns.
@ReeseofEastAnglia
Many IC services call at some small towns further away and then run through to London without calling at smaller towns nearer. [ I think a service from Penzance calls at Newton Abbot etc but then after Exeter misses out Bristol TM, Bath & Swindon ]
Bedford & Luton will have many other services too but if this IC service called at all the smaller towns, it would end up being a commuter train.
I guess it beats walking up to Billinge Hill G…(first Vlog I saw of yours, as I live close to there in The Garswood)…a fan since then!…Well done…great content, well presented! 👍
Haha cool! Thanks a lot 😀
Just love watching video I must try that train ride I will go from London to Nottingham and have look around Nottingham as I have not been there.
When you're up in the capital city of the East Midlands, have a pint of home-brewed "Trip Ale" in Nottingham's oldest pub, "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem", whose bars are situated in caves hacked out of the soft, Triassic Sherwood Sandstone upon which the City of Nottingham stands.
Great Video G I Enjoyed Thanks For posting😊
Thanks 😀
great video as always G..loving the coffee cup collection..
Cheers 😀
Awesome vlog G nice to see you enjoying another journey you have quite a collection of cups
Cheers Stuart 😀
Thanks for taking me on a journey. I never get a train on my own but I'm always fascinated to see what they are like today. I'm particularly interested in the charging points, being a bit of a power bank nut. First class is alright by the looks of it. You shot down to London!
Thanks for the video G, just watched a cab ride from Nottingham to London doesn't take long. First class looks good, definitely for the price. Love the EMR train colour lol, I no you don't!!😎🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧💚
The purple is a lovely colour I agree 😀
That's a ridiculously cheap ugrade, well worth it!. Also, loving your cup collection!
Thanks!
Double knicker hook! 😊
The Class 222 Meridians are scheduled to be replaced by the Class 810 Aurora. But EMR are still a good train operator that operates across the East Midlands and they got lot more Class 170 Turbostars.
2:24 I see that exact same red n white 170 daily, I live behind the Nottingham-Skegness line.
Nice one! Ridden on these Merridians a lot over the years.
Nice First Class Ride and great video G
Cheers 😀
Great vlog G. EMR First Class does look ok especially for the money but I think I would probably do it on a weekday for the breakfast roll to get the money worth.
Yeah true, didn't realise about the breakfast when I first booked 😀
What a nice trip you had to London.
Thanks for the vlog!! 💚
She even managed to shoot a video clip of Sir Thomas Tresham's treasonable Triangular Lodge at Desborough, where everything is in multiples of three (as in "Holy Trinity") or twelve (as in "Apostles")
EMR first class is worth the extra. I usually travel mid week, and later than you did and I find the price cheaper than you paid, and there is more choice of food. Definitely worth it. Great video.
Great to hear! 😀
I booked a Glasgow to Inverness run on the Scotrail app a couple of months ago. 1st class on the return leg was actually a couple of ££ cheaper than the standard fare....
Brilliant 😀
Great video 😀 I quite like the 222s even though standard class in 5 car gets crowded, wish I could afford first class 😭
i really enjoyed watching this i will say is the price for First Class isnt bad that might have given me an idea for my hols this year & i like the class 222s as i dont get to ride them very much but i last rode 1 from Derby to Leicester & had a lovely ride on one non stop from Leicester to London 2 years ago i i wouldnt mind riding one again within this year before the 810s come in brilliant vlog as always
Thanks Michael, I'll have to ride them some more as well 😀
Amazing video Glovestrains
Another First Class Review thanks G 👌
Thanks 😀
great video as always
Thanks!
Not been on any EMR services but the value for the first class upgrade is well worth it .
Also love your cup cupboard 😊😊
Thanks 😀
Sometimes the upgrade is absolutely worth it!
Took the train a week ago, going back to uni in Loughborough, and decided I’ll treat myself to first class before exam season, and for only £2 more. Safe to say the snacks and the wrap they provided more than covered the cost, so overall I think it’s a good investment. Also the standard class can get extremely busy sometimes, so £2 more to ensure you actually have a seat to sit in for my 1 hour 15 minute ride, cause I’ve had to stand in the vestibule the whole way before as well. I will say, these trains are getting clearly to the end of their life, and EMR is clearly not as caring of them as of late, I guess anticipating the new class 810 coming, so can’t wait for those
Someone that I know that works for EMR says the maintenance team have got a long list of issues with each unit but because of how overworked these units are (thanks to DfT wanting the 180s and HSTs to be taken out of service), they will fix one issue but a few weeks later that issue will come back.
From what I heard they are working on resolving the reservations issues, alongside with making sure all toilets onboard are in working order. As well as just keeping the units in service etc. Though I have been told it doesnt help that majortiy fo the aprts they need have to be customer ordered, which takes several weeks to be made and delivered, which doesnt help in keeping the units in service.
I suspect EMR are trying to keep the cost down for fixing the 222's however given that everyone suspects the 810's wont be in service until at least late 2026, as they are still waiting on units to be built as well as start training for staff etc. Even then its a gradually rollout of these units.
Wow 2 quid that's brilliant!
Glad you enjoyed it, you'll have to come back again to get the normal cup 😉
Haha I will do 😄
Another awesome vlog as always G and you get nicer looking with each vlog & loved the music and no comment on the Blackpool Towers Out of the window on the journey ?
Thanks, yes plenty of Blackpool towers 👍
Aw Wow Amazing Vid About First Class Ride To London With EMR Glove I Like It
Thanks!
Great vlog G!
Thank you for sharing G
Another brilliant video G!
Thanks!
OMG another fantastic video babe ❤
Amazing video GLT! As a request video, you can do it on another first class ride, but this time with South Western Railway (SWR), running the journey from either Weymouth, Exeter St David's or Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo.
Thanks, I'll look into riding with SWR some time for sure 😀
@@GLovesTrains You're welcome
Hi G, this is a brilliant vlog, I did know that those class 222 are actually going, I would prefer those units than those 809 units. 😁
Cheers Charlie 😀
Not used to seeing you in the daylight...😊 brilliant ride out.. 😊 cheers. 👍
Lovely Jubbly, love your videos.
Thanks!
I’m impressed you managed to connect to the WiFi, G! I’ve never managed to do that on a Meridian. That said, I have enjoyed my few trips with EMR in 1st. Does look like you had a great time.
Oh really, give it a few goes it should work haha 😀
Great vid thanks. That’s a good deal😊❤️
Thanks 😀
Awesome Video G Loves Trains 😄😄😄😄😄
Another great video. You would have traveled through where we live in Flitwick.
Thanks 😀
Brilliant video G, seat reservations are always not working on EMR it seems lol. Even though this is my local operator and these trains run on my local route, I've still not done first class on a 222 (I've sat in declassified first class seats in those few units that had coaches swapped, it's a bit difficult for me to explain it all lol).
Haha yeah I was a bit confused at first with that declassified bit 😂
8:10 Just loved the timing of the music with the train passing :) Great editing! :D
Thanks glad you liked 👍
@@GLovesTrains Yeah its cool. As someone who has done a lot of video editing in the past, its these things that take time and people never notice!
I found this video to be very enlightening, thank you.
Nice one G, love the cup collection. Did you notice on the fares you showed, the 9.17 train would've cost you an extra £76 to upgrade to 1st class !!!
I didn't notice that haha
Omg I love the thumbnail!
Thanks! 😁
My house backs onto the East Midlands mainline, give us a wave next time you’re passing 😊
I can try haha
Cool video G!
I frequently use East Midlands Trains and travel 1st class. Staff always very friendly, very helpful and very professional. The seating in 1st class is excellent, very comfortable. I have my fingers crossed about the new units to be introduced in the coming year. Those units will be similar to those used on GWR and LNER, the seating on which, even in first class is absolutely atrocious, extremely hard and uncomfortable even on short journeys.
And to think the 220/221's 1st class looked decent. The 222s make the voyagers look obselete!!
Obsolete.. what a word! 😂
100% correct, apart from their tatty appearance as of late (IET's coming later this year), certainly better than the 220 / 221's, although they do share the same toilet smell issues, just not as bad.
@@stanmarsh14 - For as long as I've been travelling with them, EMR has neglected to put its Meridian trainsets through a carriage washing plant, resulting in windows which are so encrusted with filth and grime that it's difficult to see out of them!
@@KempSimon not too sure about this, but do believe at least the wash plant at Derby Etches has been out of action for some time, and understand it's has or will be replaced with the new IET's in mind.
The 158's and 170's they have, even the ones based at Derby, are externally cleaned elsewhere, Nottingham Eastcroft being the most likely.
Beautiful views from that first class service! 😎
G, a nice day to travel and great value. Thank you
I did something similar from Derby last Saturday. Avanti were striking so I went from Alsager to Derby and connected to London. First class was £6 more than standard. I had a coffee, water, crisps, biscuits and a sandwich
Good alternative, just as I sometimes run Long Eaton > Tamworth > Euston, to connect with Avanti / London North-Western, though I don't generally like doing that route, due to services being a bit unreliable.
Definitely worth the money then 😀
lol, adopting railway cups lol
Haha 😄
"The Little Mirror Within" does sound like the lost Agatha Christie novel lol
Great vlog as usual, that is great value for an upgrade,Cross country charge more than double for first class
Did you know cross country may inherit the 222s after they leave EMR?
That was an amazing price to upgrade to first class (although I think it will be far more expensive on a weekday)
Looks like you'll need a bigger cupboard for that cup collection before long 😂
Haha this is true 🤣
I missed this TOC last year but they looked much better than the first class coach on Cross Country Newcastle to Edinburgh last October. Terrible interior and tea and sandwich yuk. Good review. You looked cold again at the start. I’ll send my 42 Celsius over for tomorrow. 👍
Ooo that be nice a bit of warmth haha
Hoi, G, pretty interesting to follow you´re story and well done. Sure worth it to upgrade this way. Look´s like everywhere these day´s. Staff is to safe the technical/operational downside´s. Greeting´s, Markus
I think that Scotrail could inherit the Class 222s from East Midlands Railway as the Class 810 Aurora IETs are schedule to enter service sometime mid or later this year. But the Class 222 Meridians are quite nice trains.
Joy coming up of a sunday quick journey Kings Cross Potters Bar. No Great Northen Running so Pic to Cockfosters then a quick 15 bus via Hadley Wood to Potters Bar, shouldnt be too bad
Ooh, that First Class is lovely - I have to do that kind of thing myself sometime as a little treat! And I see the IC125 scarf has made an appearance again - I really like that. Can you remember where you got it?
I got it a few years back from Masquettes
@@GLovesTrains Thank you! I'm tempted to see if I can get one for myself from somewhere, if they're still available new.
Greetings from just down the line near Trent Junction / East Mids Parkway, over at Long Eaton.
I regularly go on this route on the Sheffield / Derby leg (Fastest of the lot at 90 mins direct from Long Eaton), though have done the Nottingham leg before, due to cost.
Yes you get the same wiff as you do with the 220 / 221's from the toilets unfortunately, however unlike those two, the carriage layout is certainly better.
I'll be honest in that I am NOT looking forward to the Hitachi IET 810's arriving this year (Currently on-test over at Old Dalby, Leicester), having been on the LNER (Azuma), South-Eastern (Javelin), and GWR variants, mostly due to the seating, however it's worthy of note that EMR seams to have noted the seating issues the other IET brethren have encountered, and had demo unit's on show at several EMR mainline stations, Nottingham being one of them, and they do seam to be better, but we'll see when they go live on the network.
On-board wi-fi, same with mobile coverage, it's quite patchy between East Mids Parkway and Loughborough stations unfortunately.
Wow thats an impressive collection of cups at the end.
Thats a good deal for 1st class
I would of laughed if i saw me walk past at London st pancras International especially since it was a Saturday 😄
Hows your veganuary going, I've been to Aldi and picked up somethings
Lol, it's going good thanks. Been eating lots haha, you had anything nice?
@GLovesTrains I liked aldis vegan pepperoni pizza it's not my favourite one I've ever had but I liked it. The greggs vegan stake bake is back in Iceland some I picked them up. And I've tried some tesco wraps.
Look at you, going posh😂
Good on ya.
The 222s definitely learnt from the voyagers mistakes. Strong rumour is that they may go north of the border to replace the final hsts still in service.
These HSTs have been in service for almost 50 years!!!
@whatdoyoumeanbro4964 I think their time is about to be up with the 175s going to gwr and the 222s becoming available. An amazing history though.
Great video, Just shows you can get bargain fares, vast improvement over BR day's when there was no choice, love St Pancras station a architectureal masterpiece.
Thanks Graham 😀
Awesome journey Best Regards Abdrew :)
Thanks Andrew 😀
I've done EMR first class in 222s a few times - the seats are very comfy and, like you say, first class is often cheap. There's a lot of speculation the 222s will head to Scotland to replace the HSTs...
Great vid!
Thanks!
Good to see a fellow Wiganer arriving at St PieCrust. 👍
🤣
Wait they put porridge in the roll
Don't think so haha
great vid as ever g
Thanks!
ever use the knicker hook?
On occasion
I was at Liverpool Central trains potting a double class 777 was heading towards Southport which I caught on camera.
Would these trains be a good replacement to ScotRail HST fleet? Which the Scottish Government have announced to be replaced?
EMR are notorious with that seat reservation issue. Had nothing but trouble with the Nottingham to St. Pancras International service. Safer bet to drive to Grantham and take the LNER / Hull Trains services to King’s Cross. Also, it’s cheaper that way (for non-railcard holders) including parking. Great vid though, G 👍
Thanks for letting me know 👍
Done this before from Long Eaton, but find going from Newark to be better with connections for me, rather than Grantham (Nottingham > Skegness connection), for LNER.
