39:58 Ramchandra Guha : Referring to Romila Thapar "Her understanding of people and people like her the Marxist Historians of medieval and ancient India is not just flawed but dangerous and counter productive."

I listen to a lot of the "Black Hole" programs, and that has had the benefit of improving my URDU! I see that you people are interested in knowing about the fate of Muslims of India. But, are you doing anything tangible to improve the fate of minorities of Pakistan? That will be a better investment of your time /energy /money. Indians know how badly you treat minorities - RSS & BJP are popular only because of this. this then has effect on Indian minorities also. Historians like Guha and Thapar are irrelevant. Pakistanis have to take the lead and start treating their minorities well and do justice with them.

Hinduism is not a religion, religion is itself a European concept, the Hindu people are following Sanatan Dharma from 10,000 years.
And no body has a right to interrupt the continuity of our civilization. We never interrupted any one's pilgrimage to Mecca, Vatican, or in Jerusalem, similarly no one has a right to destroy our temples and impose a mosque or church upon it.

Although I am on Indian right n like their opinions mostly. People like Guha ji n Hudboy ji have listed many pointers which are contradictory to Indian right and helps people like me to form a better opinion. It is not that I believe everything by Hudboy ji n Guha ji. We shud listen to historians on both sides n then form our opinion. After all this we shud always believe in non violence and human rights n individual rights.

If Parvez Hoodbhoy wants to enlighten people, he should invite modern Indian historians like Vikram Sampath. Guha has been discredited as a subaltern thinker with outdated ideas of communists. But then you will not like what you hear, meaning the truth! So I guess you are doomed to listening to people who tell you what you want to hear.

India is secular because Hindus are in majority not because Indian constitution is secular.
Same applies to Israel, Lebanon, UK, as long as it remains a Christian or Jew Majority country.

Me Hoodbhoy: in these kinds of discussions, don’t you think that you need to also invite people sho have opinions different your opinion? You are only balking to people who think like you.
    This restricts your reach

Gandhi always preferred Muslims over Hindus every time and sowed the seeds of separatisim. He never criticised Muslims for communal violence and akways blamed Hindus.

India largely has a very good standard of living, good per capita income through out the history before Islamic Invasion
Indias decline in per capita income begins from 11th century because of Islamic Invasion, collapse of traditional governance structure and concentration of wealth in hands of few Islamic rulers but industry and skills never migrated to other geography,
In 17th century deindustrialisation of India started by Britain which dropped Indias share in global GDP from 27% to 2 % in 1947 when British left India.

49:03 Mr Guha forgets the numerous peace diplomatic initiatives by India including the one by Shri Bajpai with Mr Nawaz Sharif to make the LoC as border …and Pakistan debauched that by secretly occupying Indian controlled Kargil leading to Kargil war. Indians have tried since 1948, Simla agreement but Pak Army uses the peace agreements as an opportunity to stab Indians in the back. that’s why over the last 10 years, majority of Indians have decided that there is no point discussing compromise and peace initiatives with Pakistan due to lack of reciprocity.

It is a pleasure to have two great public intellectuals in two neighbouring countries of the Indian subcontinent in a single frame. It would have been better if right-thinking intellectuals such as Vikram Sampath and J Sai Deepak from India were invited to participate in a holistic debate.

Dont cry about what happened in the past!Talk of what is happening now? We are in 21st century and wants to live our lives with a reference of the past!Britain ruled India for a very long time with disgraceful attitude towards the Indians. But today an Indian orign Rishi Sonak is the PM of Britain. Had there been a bias in the minds of the white Britons Rishi Sonak would never be British PM.Indians should now stop diving deep down in history and fetch gems of hatred for the Muslims.India has s huge 55:18 population of Muslims which is a ground reality.

Listening to such discredited 'historians' will not take you anywhere. A historian in India is useless if doesn't know ancient languages. A man who doesn't know Sanskrit, doesn't know Farsi or Arabic, what quality of historian can you be?!!
