First Secure by Schlage - is it worth it?

  • In a word, no. This lock is easily picked and is based on a well known design that does not hold up to daily use. I would never recommend someone sleeping on the “secure” side of this lock. It would be appropriate for an application such as an outdoor closet where you keep items such as pool floats, yard ornaments, or other low value items. Watch the video to see why. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below!

    SPRONGGGGG. Good you found it. I liked your demo, I know how spools work, but this the first video demo I have seen

      Thank you my friend! After I did that I was thinking it would be really cool to have a plug holder where the sides came right up to the chambers. That way it would be more in line with how security pins actually work in the lock and would be a great demo.

    maybe a lock for a toilet door. and 15USD for a complete lockset. That about covers the vat part of the price for a single ruko cylinder.

      Yeah, like I said, only good for securing pool floaties and yard decorations. 🤷‍♂️

    I've managed as an amateur to rake open one of these first secures but it was the keyed golden knob P54HWK605. Seems really hard to open and I can't get it to open again. Anybody have any ideas cause I think I'm missing something with these locks.

      Well my first question is did you buy the knob just for picking? Or was it in use and you picked it and now it won’t work?
      As far as picking knobs, I have found them to be harder that deadbolts. Sometimes because of their design, the cylinders moving just slightly inside, or other factors. So if you bought this for picking and you can’t seem to get it open, just keep giving it a try 👍

    I bought 2 of those and the keys works on both locks

      You bought two separate ones but they were keyed alike?

      @@LockPickingPatrolman yes two different sets in different boxes!! They had same serial number on keys

      @LockPickingPatrolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertthomas8216 wow! And they were Schlage keys? Due to the specs of Schlage bitting, this is a statistical improbability, but it’s very interesting to know!

      Some of the sets that Walmart get are keyed alike. Gotta check the sticker

    Nice video Tim you are a police officer have you ever seen a place broken in by picking ??

    • @LockPickingPatrolman
      @LockPickingPatrolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, I don’t know if I have or not. I started coming off the road when I started picking and I’ve always wondered if some of the break-ins I’ve seen where the door was unlocked were actually as a result of picking.

    Why is it that lock makers refuse to make a lock that is secure? Why can't I just buy a lock that works?

    • @LockPickingPatrolman
      @LockPickingPatrolman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately here in the US, it comes down to cost. For mass produced locks that are available to the consumer at affordable prices, it’s not worth it to include anti picking measures. That being said; I can say as a cop of 13 years, most criminals wanting to break into your house won’t bother with picking the lock. And now working as a locksmith, I can understand why. Some locks in the wild can be picked in seconds, others you go to a different door or break out the drill. My advise is to get deadbolts that come with the thick security plates and long screws (most Schlage products do). Aim for kick protection.

      That’s BS. Of course people would more likely pick it than break glass and be heard. And I agree. If it can be picked so easily, may as well not lock the effing door at all. SMH. Pisses me off super bad. 🤬

      I actually got that in the Huk kit and then used a square file to make the notch. 👍
