  • Nothing worse than an upside down keyhole after installing new doorknobs. We must remove the cylinder and rotate it so both keyholes are at the bottom. You could always get the special tool amzn.to/3g6PyVc , but nah

@@stepbackjack4194 you would have to get a new cylinder and swap it, you can't do it with just the lock you have unfortunately. If it's clockwise it will always stay as clockwise or vice versa

'No tools.' 😉 Thanks for the instructional video. 👍

Thank you. Creative and practical. I used the tape trick for a third hand. I think if I used the whack it method my lock would be broken. Also your unedited effort prepared me to be patient as this does require some finesse. I fixed two locks. One went fast. The other was a bit more stubborn. Both took less than 15 minutes including removal and reinstalling.

Thank-you for this. Why not cut a 'V' into the end of a strip of metal, such as a piece of hacksaw blade, instead? Then you can pick up and push both sides of the spring together simultaneously. It would be a lot easier than trying to fiddle around with a nail '15 to 35 times', as you had to do. Cutting, filing or using a Dremel to make that 'V' would be much quicker and easier for you. And if you needed to dismantle a second lock, the tool is ready for immediate use.

It was my first try at it, if I was going to do it again I would try to improve upon the methodology! But also the goal was to give a tutorial that doesn't require "tools", at least complicated ones

Or you could buy the $5 tool and save a lot of time

I found it difficult, if not impossible, to depress both pressure locks so I went "old school" and pried the lock assembly out of the knob from the outside with a very thin screwdriver.. If you use this method be very careful not to mar the metal.

You gave up too quickly... You need to try at least 25 times!!!

I failed 10 times and gave up. I didn't have any screwdrivers small enough to stick two into the clamps. The kwikset tool was two for $6 so I just ordered it on amazon.

Wish I had watched more than the first video I found. Did the whack thing and one of the tips on the springs ended up bent. Of course being hardened spring steel, bending it back caused it to break. Off to the hardware store tomorrow 🤦

I do not endorse the whack method

@@pikas_palace Yeah, unfortunately I discovered that after attempting it thanks to a previous video. I supposed the silver lining is that I learned how to swap Kwikset springs and pins over.
