I thought I was going to have to switch the orientation until you said, "The correct orientation for Schlage lever is for it to have a frown." That's all I needed to hear. I don't have to do anything! But your video is excellent if you have to switch orientation. Thanks.

Thank you for making this video. After installing 25 interior door levers and changing the handing on several of the levers, I figured the entry levers would work the same way... Nope! Unfortunately the directions that came with the entry lever failed to mention that a key needed to be inserted before the lever on the keyed side of the assembly could be removed. Now that I have seen your demonstration it makes perfect sense. I'm just glad that I stopped before damaging the lock.
great video... short, sweet and to the point! Do you know of a way to release the key cylinder from the inside of the hardware without the key? I'm trying to rekey the lever myself because I don't have the keys.
Great video was curious what to do when the key way is stuck at 2 o clock?? and wont turn deadbolts are having same problem wont release key unless you turn left past 12 almost to 11?
I have a mid century entry door knob where it was installed so that the key is upside down from the other two locks on my house. The lock does not function with my house key. I would like to try reversing the orientation up and down so that if there is a problem with the lock re-orienting it might help. Plus I wants to fix it anyway to be consistent. These are brass door knobs with a lock on the outside and a turn nub on the inside. The handle reversal video does not apply to my door knobs, but I am asking if there is a technique for re-orienting the keyhole. Thanks.
PJT99... You will notice that at 1:33 you hear a distinct click of the button working. I had the same problem as you until I figured out that you have to put the key in and turn it a quarter turn as the video demonstrated. This must be a security feature so that someone can't simple put a pin in and take apart the exterior handle in an attempt to break into your house.
Right, zero instructions in the package...sadly. So many products manufactured in China come with inferior instructions or missing instructions & guides and poor English. It must be a running joke in the factories in China. Thanks to this video I managed to reverse the handles, but it sure wasn’t easy, perseverance paid off.
Well, sometimes, kinda. Some of these Schlage Lever Entry handles CANNOT be switched. This is the case with a F51-ACC619 and those like them. Notice on the video above that on both of those handles, the hub of the handles (the part that actually slides into the lock body) are somewhat oblong. On some sets, the hub on the INTERIOR handle (holding the lock twist knob,) are completely round, while the exterior is oblong. These kind of lock sets cannot, no way, be switch around. Totally different insides.
Have the same lock but don’t the key to unlock the key to remove the lever and to gain access to the cylinder to shim and to rekey. What suggestions do you have for me.
wondering if you can advise me on how to set it so when locked, neither side of the handle turns. right now the inside handle always turns. I know this feature exists on my defiant locks at the house I'm moving out of, I really hope it exists on this one too.
i've seen these before, where you can obviously still open the door from the inside too. it's a stupid feature in my opinion. maybe they think you're going to have an intruder and run for your life out the door and could die because you lost a second to unlock the knob. but, in my part of 'murica, we don't run!

You'll notice at 1:34 that they had to edit the video where he puts the pin in to separate the lever - this is probably because it almost impossible to do it, poor design. I struggled with one part for 15 minutes, and the other half I never could get the pin to work.
Four years later and I'm installing an identical Schlage lockset on a different door . . . . and of course I forgot how to do it. There are a number of TH-cam videos that don't show the "secret" -- that you have to insert and turn the key. You've saved me once again. Thank you so much!
It would be nice if we didn't have to go to TH-cam to find instructions. The instructions that come with the handle are very basic and not clear at all * illustrations only :(

So if the button side lever doesn't have a hole, but a half moon shaped indentation, does that mean the handedness can't be changed?

Me either. Got one side off with no problem, but CANNOT get the other side.
