Install a new Schlage lever handle the right way!

  • Swoop up y’all!
This only applies to relatively newer Schlage lever handles, on the older designs you did have to order them handed correctly for your door. Standing outside the door if your hinges are on the left it’s a Left Hand door, if hinges are on the right hand side it’s a Right Hand door

Thanks for the very clear instructions on how to change over to this lever handle. My wife was having a hard time turning the knob for our outside door and we purchased a Schlage lever. I'm NOT a handyman kind of guy (unless you're installing/redoing sheetrock or painting walls) - mechanically, I'm just not there. This video made everything clear. I was in and out, done in 20 minutes. Thanks.

Thank you so much for such a great video! A year ago I had security screen doors put on and I bought matching Schlage hardware to match the rest of my house. A week ago I went to clean the screen and couldn’t open the lock with my key. I took it to Home Depot yesterday and they kindly replaced the hardware and rekeyed the lock but the person didn’t look or ask which way my screen door opened and apparently didn’t think the look at the old one I brought with me. I was going to take it back to have them fix it tomorrow but after watching your video, I will be able to fix it myself in the morning. Excellent set by step instructions for a novice like myself to be able to follow. Much appreciated! 😊

I have a question sir, my old door knob. When I have the tab locked from the inside position ( inside of the house ) you couldn’t turn the knob. With this one. When it’s in the locked position you can still then the handle and it’ll unlock itself instead of having to turning the slit before it can be unlocked. Is the reason its doing it because of the model version I got? Or it’s just how the model is?

    • @selock

That is how they have worked for about 12 years now in the Schlage original design. If your previous knob stayed rigid until turning then it was the Schlage J series (a less extensive alternative)
