      It might also be useful for "opening" windows if you have a loose one. Loose deadbolt, that is, not loose window.

    • @ThatSoddingGamer
      @ThatSoddingGamer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @Lucian & DrLex1 - Would actually be a legitimate tactic as it might confused anyone trying to enter, both because you have a strange object taped to the door, and when they realize what it is, they might assume you're advertising how little you care about whatever is behind it, or that it's actually a trap. Either way, it might buy the door an extra minute or so.

    I work with some small engines and I had a guy bring in a "Wal-Mart special" weed trimmer. You know, the $75 one. He had used it twice. It was hard to even take it apart without breaking anything because it was so cheap. After about 20 minutes I just put it back together and told the guy he needed to buy a new weed trimmer because I could see thru the intake that one of the pistons was cracked.
    I've never seen a cracked piston in a new trimmer - let alone a trimmer that wasn't run until it seized (generally because someone forgot to mix their oil into the fuel). I couldn't believe how cheaply made it was. I mean, you can buy a perfectly reasonable Stihl/Husqvarna/Echo trimmer for $130-150 that is going to be 10x better and actually last.

    Could you make a video about the types of pins and their pros/cons?

    • @satorudo
      @satorudo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +114

      Kinda super broadly security pins are designed to make picking harder and take longer. Cons are mostly that it costs money to manufacture such pins so cheap locks tend not to use them. As you saw in the video the key pins were bevelled on both sides. This makes assembly easier since the intern you're paying 5 cents an hour to assemble locks cant put them in upside down. But as LPL said, this means picking is easier.
      Serrated pins are designed so that the lock will bind along the serrations. Thta means you'll likely have to muck around and set that pin a few times before its actually 'set'
      Spool pins are designed to false set inside the spool. To unscrew yourself you'll have to release the tension on the lock which means you'll likley lose any other pins you have set.
      Having these kinds of pins also means a lock basically can't be opened by blind monkeys via raking. I mean you 'could' get lucky and rake a lock open with security pins but the odds of that are astronomically low.

      @IamMe You’ve got the concept of drilling correct. Steel anti-drill pins are hardened, which makes them much more difficult to drill through than brass pins. Lock manufacturers use brass for a couple of reasons: it’s easier to machine and it doesn’t rust.
