    Also, The New York Times has rated the Schlage B60N as the Best Residential Door lock too. Professional locksmiths are offered a choice between this Schlage model and a similarly qualified deadbolt lock from Kwikset, they unanimously voted for Schlage.
    Mr. Locksmith Vancouver BC recommends the Schlage B60N is our pick as the best deadbolt for residential customers. This single-cylinder lock is affordable, widely available. Schlage is known to be a top maker of heavy duty deadbolts. It produces different models designed for various purposes.
    Best Residential Deadbolt Lock
    What is the best residential deadbolt lock? It's, this is not my opinion, My favorite Residential and Commerical deadbolt is the Schlage Locks B560 and B660 Deadbolts. I really like and prefer the commercial grade deadbolts. So we have a light-duty commercial, a heavy-duty commercial, and they have a residential version. And it has been rated by different magazines and articles as the best residential deadbolt. Nothing really close to this one. It's called the Schlage B60N Deadbolt.
    There are all sorts of different numbers that show the finish etc. So let's just pull this apart and I'll put it on the door and I'll show you why this is probably the best residential lock, dollar for dollar. Now, if you know my videos, you know I love putting on the heavy-duty, the same locks I put on the hospitals and school boards and businesses, this is heavy-duty. It's quite solid and it's made by the same company. So this is the Schlage B660. This is the Schlage B560, it's a little bit lighter-duty version. And you've seen my videos on why I love these. These are more expensive, but they're probably the best commercial locks. And if you look at your schools and your hospitals, this is what they are using in most cases. Now, for residential, this is a great lock and I am going to show you what we have here. This is the B60N and let's just see what we got here. It is a six-pin keyway. This is the Classic or "C" Keyway (SC4).

    Hey, Mr. L. I really like your channel. Locks are mesmerizing and utterly fascinating. So, I want to change the handleset on my front door. The current handleset has a single deadbolt only. What I would like to buy is a handleset where you have a separate deadbolt above the handleset AND a locking mechanism WITHIN the handleset itself. Typically, I have seen these with 2 buttons on the door flange so you can select whether the handleset is locked or unlocked when the door is closed OR there is a selector on the rotor on the inside of the door where you again can select lock or unlock on the handleset. When I am Googling or in a store what kind of handleset should I be looking for?

    Additionally, the Schlage has armor to prevent drilling out the mounting bolts with regular HSS drill bits, and there's usually a hardened steel plate set into the core face to prevent drilling the shear line.

    • @1810jeff
      @1810jeff 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cobalt drill bits aren't hard to come by though and those are made to drill through high carbon hardened steel. So I don't know if it would be much help, it would certainly buy you time though.

      BION, I use a Spyder Mach Blue 1/16 x 2 1/2 inch bit for drilling most locks. Yes, it's tiny, but ya can't beat it for strength and precision, especially when you hit the sweet spot.

    • @summitsecuritydoorandlock
      @summitsecuritydoorandlock ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly that does very few any good. No one drills a lock when breaking in, not well anyway, so the only people this stops are locksmiths unable to open the lock through other means. Not to mention it doesn't work lol. Medeco will keep people from drilling effectively, schlage does not. Since lishi tools hit the scene drilling a lock is very rare even for new smiths.

  • @actionjksn
    @actionjksn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I do home improvements including door installation, I always tell the homeowner that Schlage is the only good residential one.
    If the striker is slightly hitting the plate after figuring out where it's hitting you can take a Dremel and grind a little bit off the edge of the striker plate. If you're only removing a little bit you can't even talk but if it's any worse you have to remove it and relocate it in the proper place.
    If you need to move the striker plate just remove the screws and hammer golf tees into the holes, then score of the golf tees and break them off. This will keep the screws from following the existing holes. This technique also fixes screw holes for hinges that are stripped out. They make a special drill bit that will perfectly center the hole for the striker plates and hinge plates. This is well worth the $5 price to be able to perfectly center the hole for the screw. For some reason Home Depot does not carry this drill bit but Lowe's does. If Home Depot does have it I've never been able to find it. Avoiding over tightening all the installation screws is definitely the key to not having the lock binding up.

    Well, somebody's spelled it "Schalge" in this video. I suspect from the correct spelling, "Schlage", and from the time the company was established that this could be a German name. So my best guess at a pronunciation would be a 'sh' sound followed by 'lager' like the beer (do you have lager beer in USA and/or Canada?) So, you could say 'Shlager' with a long 'ah' sound on the 'a' and a hard 'g'.

    I don’t think he knows what he’s talking about. B60N has changes 5 times and the model he is showing is not normal. Only the locksmith grade B560n comes with 6 pin or the locksmith ordered b60n from the factory with a 6 pin cylinder, that’s why it’s in a box and not a visual pack that you see at the hardware store. You will never get it 6 pin at the hardware stores. The strike plate he has is garbage, the old strike plate was great, so how can he say that’s a good one, it’s thin and the screws mount in the center of the strike, they won’t hit the stud securely. The body doesn’t secure into the hole of the door anymore, it used to have a shield, Schlage got ride of that too. Oh and the cylinder is die cast not brass. Schlage stole that adjustable bolt design from Kwikset, at least Schlage makes that part better then it’s older 2 versions . I’m assuming he’s getting a sponsor ship with Schlage.
    The only thing I will agree is that he B60N is the best deadbolt homeowners can buy at a local hardware store, but that’s not saying much. Hardware store brands were never any good that’s why people went to the locksmith and had a quality deadbolt put on the door by a professional!
