    Great video, helped me clean my controller's buttons after a spill. I noticed while reassembling that its easier to put the circuit board in before the bumper bar. Also, I figured out the white tabs function is to give a mechanical brace behind the bumpers' triggers. They have a tight fit between the back of the bumper trigger and the black plastic of the controller. Ideally, first, you put the circuit board in, second, flip the controller over and squeeze those tabs in place and finally, fit the bumper into place.

      It's a pity that such a good controller is let down by cheap/low quality components & a couple of design flaws.
      It is still my go to controller.

    This helped me tremendously! The only hiccup was reassembling the black ribbon wire. Obviously taking it off was easy but when I reassembled it, I thought it would fit more snug. I tried and tried to make it go in further. Then I looked at the other connection and that stuck out a bit. So I put it in as far as it would go... and it’s working perfectly. Thanks again!

    Been watching over and over until I finally went ahead to repair my broken inner frame. So I needed to disassemble that trigger metal with the springs. That's where you stopped unfortunately for me.
    But I just cut the plastic from the old frame and removed the trigger piece that is holding the spring. Actually, it's very difficult to remove unless you are putting a new inner frame like I did.
    Thanks a lot for the whole video. 🤝

    Thanks for this video, it helped me fix my controller in 15 minutes. The only note I would make is that the bumper comes with the screw to open your controller (the little green plastic piece is not necessary to open the grips, you can use the screwdriver or the elite paddles to pry.. really anything small or flat).
    Just wanted to give that heads up so people can save on purchasing the extra screwdrivers. Thanks again for the awesome video.

    Your video was very helpful. I had to fix a sticking paddle button and was able to do it in less than 15 minutes with the help of this video. For anyone having issues with the paddle buttons (little green ones on the back), open it up and make sure that the little black dot on the board is in the center of the little switch thingy for whatever button your having issues with. Mine was shifted to a corner so I just realigned it gently with a knife edge. My top right paddle button is wonderfully clicky again.

    This is an awesome vid man. Appreciate the time and effort but I have a question. The silver domes that hold the thumbsticks and slide down over the module's control arm have an asymmetrical. One side wall is flat and the other is rigged. The control arms show no indentations or grooves that suggest better stability based on how they're seated but do you know if it matters?

    I dropped my controller on hardwood floor with the hair triggers turned on, broke the extended piece of plastic attached to the trigger cradle. This video is going to help me replace the controller frame seeing nobody would honor the warranty. the seller advertised the 90 day warranty, which microsoft told me they can't honor it because it isn't an official microsoft retailer so now I have to do the controller repair myself, because I refuse to spend another 150 dollars on a controller that can break from a fall thats barely over a foot off the ground. Then I can connect to xbox via usb. when I turn the controller off. It only turns back on again if I take one of the batteries out and put it back in. and sometimes even that doesn't work. When its on it works fine. Suggestions?

    About the bumpers, I didn't get it. RB and LB were just one plastic part, in both the normal Xbox and the Elite 1 controller, that bends in the middle each time you press either button, so it was always a question of time until it will break.
    Is this the case on the new Elite Controller 2 Series too? Still one plastic part?

It damaged lots of components by liquid acid but its still functional. I used ethanol alcohol 70% and cleaned the rest of the components. It do power up and works rest of buttons and joysticks. But I broke all 6 pins of the ribbon cable which joint to the main motherboard, where I can manage a replacement of it? Can you suggest me an alternative version or model? I found some from old device but I will not be receiving them in this lockdown so need to find from local area, and I don't think my locals have Xbox elite old copy for me. So a cable 6pin ribbon cable will works on it as a replacement??? Please help me and suggest :(

    Disassembled to replace buttons with custom gold ones and new faceplate, all went well button’s pressing fine until I put the last 5 screws in to put the controller together again once I done that all the buttons was stiff and wouldn’t press so I assumed the screws was to tight, tried loosening them but that didn’t help until they was nearly completely undone which then the shell wasn’t together. Any help is appreciated

      The button itself. Put some IPA fluid on the button and press it 20 times, let it dry out for an hour and try again

    Really great video. But a little tip… you can also take apart the controller without removing any cables. Just in case you are not familiar with soldering. ; ) The only downside is that you can´t get the bigger vibration motors through the plastic housing.

    Hey AngelSix. My left thumbstick cap (the half circle inside part) seems to slide in and out slightly, while the right thumbstick cap stays in place nicely. It's not a huge issue and I haven't taken it apart but do you know if there's anything I can do to make it tight without having to open it?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheDeadManSwitch without opening it not really. it just slides on the analog pot shaft. I would say just buy a new pair for £3 off eBay and replace them both at same time

    When replacing the motherboard with the USB do you really need to take the wires off before taking out the upper board? can this be done without the need to solder?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffrey Hanner you can turn it over just about but you wont be able to get to the screws or change boards without removing the wires. To do it without soldering you could cut the wires in the middle then remove a bit of plastic cover from each cut ends after twist the wires together and use electrical tape to protect them perhaps some hot glue before that to stop it coming apart

    Question: One of my green paddle buttons still works but stopped giving a clicking feedback. It feels like it is somewhat jammed in to the controller. Could I tear it down to around the 11:00 mark and fix it? Or would I need to replace that part entirely?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its probably just got a bit of sticky or dirt or dust in it. You need IPA fluid, put a decent amount on the button and click it over and over. It will evaporate and doesn't harm the PCB so don't worry about it going on the board. That should fix it.

    Hi at 19:40 seconds in the video you mention the black conector for the rear case of the pad and the capton tape im wondering which part i have to replace as the black conection wire that you mentioned is snqpped on mine due to leaving it around kids when it was dismantled

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its and FPC cable and FPC connector. You can get them from digikey or farnell, however I remember when I used to mod these consoles, that particular FPC connector is customized so the tabs on standard ribbon cables catch the sides.

      Mid-range I would recommend Antex irons. Pro level I would recommend Weller. For solder, much easier to work with leaded if you are just doing hobby work and using a PC fan and carbon filter to make a fume extractor.

    The outer screws are 6 star SECURITY heads, but in your video you say that the screws are 5 star heads. Also, the set you linked is wrong, because they're not security screwdrivers and don't have a hole in the middle, so they're never gonna fit. Unless the picture is misleading but I doubt it

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Elite doesn't use security tips (unless they have added them back?). Only the standards do. However I will update the link to one containing the security tips

    I'm having trouble with the headphone jack, is it just a bit of brute force needed to snap back in place?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      First make sure everything is aligned correctly if you have opened it up and put it back together, then when fitting back it can be a hard fit to press everything back into place. However you could of misaligned something and so no amount of force would get it back into position. You can apply moderate force on the jack but nothing that would feel like you are having to push hard in any way, and if it doesn't go back in with that recheck your fitting

      It's just a physical bit of metal that stops the trigger pressing all the way down. They are pretty strong

    I followed this tutorial to disassemble my elite controller but did not disconnect any cables. When I reconstructed the controller it only works with being plugged into a micro usb. The wireless function (turning it on with the white Xbox button being held) doesn’t initiate power. Any suggestions? I have new batteries in and have them in the right alignment. What happens if you remove the Kapton tape? I’m not familiar at all with circuit boards. Does it risk breaking the board all together? Or any electrical issues? I accidentally removed mine.

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the kapton tape is put on to keep things in place during wave soldering / assembly and they just don't remove it. It can also act as an insulator if moving parts that are conductive were to come into contact with the exposed copper so they don't short out (although this use case is rare). An added benefit is over time it protects the exposed copper from getting dirty I guess. No harm in removing it on this board I have done it myself

    A bit stuck with the 3.5mm aux, can u explain exactly how to do it?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To do what with it? Fit it back? It basically just sits in place and as the shell closes, the pins are springy so they contact under spring tension. It's best to drop the aux peice into the front shell first then fit the PCB over it.

    Is there any way for me to replace the USB part? I bought this custom controller around Black Friday and it doesn't work?

    • @AngelSix
      @AngelSix  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not easy. You can re-solder a new one on but that requires good soldering skills and if the traces on the PCB are damaged you would need to scratch off some resist and wire solder to them also.
