I love the design of the Xbox controller, it always felt perfect for my hands and I'm actually glad that they didnt went crazy with it.
But I do wish that someday these default controllers come with some sort of buttons in the back, nothing fancy like we have on the Elite versions, just two simple buttons in each side, would be nice.

A lot of people says this controller is the same as the old one.
Well I received it a few days ago and let me tell you what I noticed.
The general shape of the controller is pretty much the same but the controller is a little bit smaller, the handles are thinner so this time the controller doesn't feel too big like the previous model, moreover the rough texture is amazing since it gives a very good grip and feeling to the hands.
The more noticeable changes are of course the d-pad, which is much much more comfortable, accurate and beautiful.
The new innovation is the new "share" button, if you think about it in the future it can bring a total revolution for this controller since we have a new button to use, of course on the Xbox you can use it only for sharing pics etc... but on pc with remapping softwares there are endless possibilities, on the elite controller there was already a button there which was used to switch from one config to another one, with remapping we could do the same on this controller too or even more.
In conclusion I think this controller is very underestimated but what Microsoft basically did was:
    - reduce dimensions of the controller and give it a rough texture to make it more comfortable
    - the feeble pieces were changed with new thicker ones (the bumpers have been upgraded and now are thicker than the previous ones)
    - the triggers now have a rough texture and their movement is slightly shorter than the previous ones)
    - buttons now put more resistance when you press them in order to avoid accidental presses during gameplay
    - even the weight of the controller now feels more balanced and the controller doesn't give the feeling that there are empty spaces inside
This controller is the proof that the previous generation controller was already a very good one but now it's almost perfect (the elite is still the best for me)
A lot of you think it is not worth its price since you can have the old controller at half the price and you might be right, if you want to play on the Xbox console and are not used to share pics etc... You can easily decide to buy the older one and save some money.
But if you play on pc like me then I think it's worth its price because it can be remapped and moreover it gives a premium feeling similar to the elite version.
Sadly at the moment there aren't any software which allows the remapping of this controller but it will surely come out in the future we just have to wait a little bit.
This is the most clever controller I have ever seen after the elite.

Good timing vince, you got in early with this one!, hope you get plenty of views. Was wanting to look inside this new one to see what the difference is. It looks like the new model is using lead free on the analog sticks, which is the same as 1697 models and elite , a pain to get the old sticks off compared to 1537 and 1708 models . The headphone jack is the long version, same as 1697 and elite models , but 1708 headphone jacks work also in elite and 1697, just the fit in the case is very slightly different.

The two extra pads on the headphone jack might have continuity between them when the headphones are disconected. They might be to detect if a headphone is conected. The new version might be detecting if the headphones are connected by monitoring the impeadence of the headphone speakers instead.

    • @DjPhaTrix
      @DjPhaTrix 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The plastic part for the bumpers still looks to be a similar design although he said is looked like the switches were slightly more vertical. That may help lessen the flex, but unless they reinforced the plastic with a metal mesh/wire core the plastic will eventually break just like the old ones. Even with wire the plastic will probably still get brittle and snap as it ages. I got a Series X controller to replace my failing XB1X controller on Friday and played about 4 or 5 hours of Destiny 2 over the weekend. The right trigger is already clicking. Makes me sad.

As TR said, the missing contacts are a push to make contact pair, probably to detect presence of the jack. One key point, although it's difficult to tell from the video is the circuit board looks to have gone back to fibreglass re-inforced rather than cheap nasty paper composite and possibly increased thickness. Should have far fewer write-offs due to cracked PCBs when the sticks have taken a hit!!

  • @TheHeartless917

the ground on the metal ring surrounding the dpad is there to avoid magnetic interference to potentiometer on the sticks. this dpad design generates more friction specially on heavy use. its just a safety measure and quite frankly not necessary. this application is mostly found on classic digital cameras where a lot of potentiometer can be found.

If you have problems getting the series controller to work on pc, this worked for me! As someone already said, follow these steps in order. 1. Force update windows and restart. 2. Go to windows update again (it will say you are up to date, that is BS). Hit the check for windows update button and another update will appear. Install that one as well,,, it took me quite awhile on the second one. 3. Plug your controller into your pc/laptop etc. with a C cable. Run the XBOX accessory app from the windows store and run it and it will install new firmware on your controller (I left Steam running in the background so I could see if it was working and sure enough steam will see it as an Xbox 1 controller, YAY!) 4. Run Bluetooth connection wizard under devices. Found and worked perfectly after that....
As I bought this thing solely for my PC, the fact that I had to trouble shoot this sucker new out of the box day one was a bit disconcerting, but viola , it was worth it!
Loving the subtle changes of the series controller very much. My favorite controller is now just that bit better!!!

the extra 2 pins on the headphone jack and both linked together when you connect a headset to it. when you remove the headphones the link between those 2 pins is broken. this is how the controller send signal to the xbox that a headset has been connected. anyone who fixes these controllers will just replace the whole unit but its usually these 2 pins not getting a proper connection that causes the headphones not to work. if you use a small flat head you can usually move or scratch the contact point between the 2 pins and your headset will start working, Im glad they have removed these pins on the new one as it is easily the most common issue with the 2016 version of the controller and the new one be using the headsets own resistance to detect that a headset has been connected or something

I needed EXACTLY this video. My 1 month old series x controller mic port has already failed. I noticed the difference between the One S (1708) controller mic port and the series X on other videos but wasn't sure if it would matter. Microsoft says my replacement controller would take 90 DAYS!!! I am going to swap a one S mic port into the series X and see what happens.

I use one of my 360 controllers for PC gaming and tbh it was for its time the definitive controller pretty much best across the board and I suspect the later controllers built upon that strength tweaking in the right directions but holding on to that solid build base of the 360's controller. Sometimes it feels they are trying to reinvent the wheel but tbh they are all descendents of the superb N64 controller that changed the way we controlled gaming in 3 dimensions not just 2 dimensions we were used to.

I'm actually happy that the controller is very similar. Its a great design, if it's not broken why fix it?

As someone who uses 8bitdo controllers for basically every platformer i have since they almost feel the exact same as a snes controller i can tell you that this clicky concave d-pad is actually really really nice. The layout still makes me prefer other controllers above this one when it comes to 2d platformers but man is it still an absolute treat to use. I wouldn't mind playing game slike hollow knight or Ori and the blind forest on this.

The inside of the Xbox Guide button appears to be different but the weird thing about that is that my Xbox One S (White) Controller has the same internal setup (Four tabs aka "cross teeth") for the Guide button just like the Series Controller there, the only big difference is how the Series button is taller than the one I have.
As for countering the joystick drift issue? Replacing it with a new component may not help at all, what you might have to end up doing is taking out the wiper/s before clipping off the tabs and nubs (possibly sand down the clipped nubs if it's not flat enough with a file tool) from the potentiometer/s themselves, clear it of any debri/dirt before putting the wiper back in and soldering it back onto the board/PCB.
One way I went about fixing this issue is getting all three points of contact hot at once before trying to tilt the potentiometer ever so slightly into the direction it keeps drifting towards.
What still baffles me to THIS DAY is how Microsoft has a program that allows you to calibrate/center the joysticks more effectively, but refuse to do so under the intentions that we would be stupid enough to keep buying new controllers over and over instead of having some electronic technological expertise.
Besides that and all, I do thank you very much for making this video, as I was super interested to see if the new controllers would also be utilizing a "haptic feedback" sort of feature similar to the Steam Controller and the PS5 Controller, only to be met with they're still using those motors which I'd still need to desolder all off of completely just so my controller is lighter to carry around and use.
