I knew I'd find this on Soham. Every time I want to learn how to do something I always find it on his channel. Best guy, best voice. Praise be for Soham Harrison
I feel like I should be paying you the exorbitant fees it costs to do metal work at Uni here (unless you're at Art School or between 16 and 20 and doing jewellery as a vocation. ..I'm way too old to qualify) Every video I watch teaches me something as does your answers to questions in the comments. I am eternally grateful that you decided to share your knowledge. Thanks yet again for another great tip.
Thankyou for your precise information on hardening and tempering steel punches. I have made about 30 repouss` punches and the timing of your information is perfect.Cheers.
Thank you so much Soham. I've been looking for just this information. As I wish to make myself a makers mark stamp. I've watched a number of your videos now, and find you to be a wonderfully informative teacher. Which is great, as I've had to quit my silversmithing night class due to an incompetent teacher. I have just made my first dinner ring after watching your video. It took a few attempts to get it right, and I am very pleased with the results. I look forward to learning a lot more.
Jean 06460 I have the same question, four years after you asked! Hahaha! Oh well, I have only done a very little of this and will continue to quench in oil when gardening and water when tempering.
pieces of old files work well. heat the metal until bright red, then let it cool as slowly as possible. it will be annealed and easy to work. after tou get the pattern you want you will need to harden the metal. heat it until it is red then quench it in water, then you need to temper it.
Everstamp does. That is who I use. They make excellent stamps at a great price. Been around since 1898. Joe does better deals on Ebay. Look it up on ebay. I believe everstamp1 is the user handle.
soham harrison thanks Soham its so often different here but I am sure I can ask for annealed steel if worst comes to worst because I am ready to make some of these now.

Thank you. I have read about this quite a bit, but actually seeing and hearing it done with instruction is extremely helpful.
Super fine! A humble thank you, Soham, for generous sharing of your wisdom.

Accurate job,thx
Thank you, Soham. A question for you - I have seen stamp makers use oil to quench their steel. Is there a reason why you don't seem to need that step?

Soham: Foro de hacer sellos "creadores Marcar"? Si es así puede darle una estimación o decirme cómo puedo llegar a un presupuesto?
Lindísimo!
Thank you!
two questions for you ...what number files should be used and what size saw blade are you using? Thank you so much!
+Ashley Barber swiss #2 cut files, and 4/0 blades
Thank you kindly for the response! !♡
Thank so much!!
If one were to use old tools to make stamps with, (files, mostly I'm thinking) how would one anneal the steel?
+Amy C. Sanders heat it bright red and cool it as slowly as possible. some people cover it in plaster powder to slowly cool it
so ham, can you recommend someplace to buy the steel rods from. I have looked everywhere with no luck! Thanks so much
Where can I get the steel that you are using?

Your saw isn't stretched well. It should not bend as you're cutting. Try putting pressure on it as you're stretching it.

Tool steel
Hi I am a silver arts
Soham: Do you make "makers Mark" stamps? If so can you give an estimate or tell me how I can reach you for a quote?
i dont, but both rio grande, and otto frei have that capacity, and are easy to work with
soham harrison thanks for the names. I want a stamp, but not give up my left leg and arm. lol
Everstamp does. That is who I use. They make excellent stamps at a great price. Been around since 1898. Joe does better deals on Ebay. Look it up on ebay. I believe everstamp1 is the user handle.
rio, and Otto frei both also make custom stamps
I found a young man in Michigan. MakersMarkBranding he does a good job and also makes brands.
Зер Гут.
he can cut his fucking finger any second.
just google silver steel, or bright steel. it is basically tool steel and hardenable because of the carbon content
soham harrison thanks Soham its so often different here but I am sure I can ask for annealed steel if worst comes to worst because I am ready to make some of these now.
