  • Bentwaters American Airforce Base, Breakfast and a Mumble. Bentwaters was featured in the Michael Caine film, ''The Fourth Protocol'' They changed the name to Baywaters as it was still very much an active Base at the time of filming.
    A good film, well worth a watch.

    My sister lives in Huntington, when I visited her the brother-in- law and I used to go to Alconbury and watch the Starfighters take off, noisy damned things they were.

    I had an uncle who was a motor mechanic in Lancashire, he moved south with his wife , and lived near Woodbridge. He worked at Orford Ness and went by boat to work everyday ! Nothing to do with motorbikes ..top secret! Cheers DaveH. Lancs

      @davidahugill99 Orford ness was a very secretive place back in the day with all staff under the official secrets act. We got to know a local that worked on the island and he was always partial to a drink, so we got him down the pub one Friday evening and filled him full of ale! He told us of a huge centrifuge nearly 30ft in diameter that had been constructed there. Under the immense structure was a massive rubber mat. Something connected to the centrifuge came adrift when at full speed, caught the rubber mat, rucked it up and completely destroyed the building!

      @@Volcanicbrown1878 Until the end of the cold war, all vehicles in the car park at Orford Ness had their number plates checked out by GCHQ, according to a local I spoke to. They developed over the horizon radar at Orford, among other things, but Russian "trawlers" quickly got wise and jammed the signal. The concrete mushrooms were self-sealing because nuclear detonators were also developed there. National Trust have got the place now, for better or worse.

    Live near Duxford, so hear the spitfire quite a lot. You can't beat the sound of the merlin engine. Just subscribed to your channel, and enjoy the Suffolk countryside. And the 350 classic. 😊

    Hi VB. I never knew the Airbase was still there. I thought it would of gone to housing by now. The last time i went past there i remember there being Military Police on the gate with rifles. I was on the way to see Mr Skid Parish of 'Denver Autos'. I enjoyed looking at his collection of Yank Tanks. He is long gone by now i reckon. 😉

    Good video and well worth watching as we are gradually finding out where the best cafes are in Suffolk .
    The sound of a Merlin engine is the sound of freedom , what kind of wretched miserablle human being could possibly complain about that ? The engine noise from a Merlin always makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle and I remember the sacrifice made by many . Fair play to the old girl for flying her Spitfire , I hoped she regularly buzzed the house of the killjoy moaner .
    I don't think you mentioned why the bike is called Waspie , so I looked it up on Wikipedia ,apparently it is a flimsy ladies corset .
    So now you have really got the old imagination working overtime . If you don't tell us , I shall leave another dislike .🤣
    You can film a bit of spannery if you like , it's always interesting to see how other folk do it properly .

    • @Volcanicbrown1878
      @Volcanicbrown1878  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can't understand how folks can think like that. The young lady who has the Spitfire, had to relocate to Duxford. ''Waspy'' is an old Suffolk word for someone who is unpredictable, ie Wasp like!

    Great video, just shows that a 350 Bullet is all most motorcylists really NEED. Plenty of power to keep up with the traffic, just purrs along like a sewing machine. Re the Spitfire episode, seems like the kind of imbeciles who complain about that are spread world wide. If you could get them to wind down the window of their expensive SUV [Aston Martin, Bentley, Jaguar, Lambo, your choice] and ask them what they knew of the Battle of Britain they'd most likely ask 'so when was that, then?' If they cared to answer... . Our beloved Sydney Showground Speedway only operated on Saturday night till 12pm, get closed down by wanker local residents, all who'd moved in later than the Speedway, complaining about the noise [even though all bikes were silenced by then]. And the same lot moved to their country residences [as you must have] in the Southern Highlands, promptly got in the ear of the local council to get the Wakefield Park race circuit closed down/ restricted....Cant have that noisy motorsport riff-raff within earshot can you? It would disturb the breeding habits of the pheasants.....

    • @Volcanicbrown1878
      @Volcanicbrown1878  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @packhams4 You are so right in what you say! I have a Speedway track real close to me, less than a quarter of a mile away. I love it! The "new" locals got together to get it shut down. That failed big time for them as the council had a meeting with all the estate agents and property developers and told them that if they buy houses or property there is a long established Speedway track nearby......Now lots of houses on the market!

    hahahaha Mine does exactly the same thing, Most times first kick True story; Im here in Japan. The Japanese airbase in Okinawa is the same as in Britain. You are in "america" kinda thing. However, the japanese "rented " the land to the americans. Under japanese law the "landlord " has the right to "inspect" the property once a year. How, they rented the land was the locals split the land into the smallest plot then as a group rented it to the Americans. Which meant ALL the locals had the right to inspect their land once a year. So a few years back they did just that ... went on to the military base and had a picnic in protest ...
