Story 2: Yeah just so everyone knows: The majority of doctors are straight up on *your* side when it comes to these forced doctor notes. Multiple times I was told to get a doctor's note when I was clearly sick, and every time I did, my doctor was pissed and happily gave me more than the amount of days I needed to get better. You'd think by now employers would realize this and not be so strict on such things, but nope! So if you're clearly sick, and your manager demands a doctor's note, don't hesitate. Go get it, explain to your doc why you were forced to come get a note, and enjoy your week+ off. Urgent Care doctors will happily do this for you too.

Same with my sister. She was sick with Glandular Fever and our boss (well my ex boss now) still demanded she come in. She came in for 3 weeks and then got too ill to come in. She was then off for 3 months for it.
This same guy demanded workers with positive covid tests come in but just not tell anyone.

I know people who are on a tight low salt diet, but completely salt free? That pretty much rules out almost everything in a can or processed foods. The guy would be reduced to eating fresh salad (with no pickles, meat products, or anything other than raw fruits and vegies plus no dressing) And almost all salt in the western world has iodine added to prevent iodine deficiency. Further, somebody correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need about 500 ml of salt a day just to maintain body functions?

Yes, it does cut out/down/preclude processed foods, but there are canned foods (veges) and beans that are clearly labeled either "50% less salt added) or (no salt added) ..... the only ingredient list on the can is the vegetable/bean ..... I know because that is what I strive to buy so that I can control my sodium intake as much as possible .....and you can eat meat ..... freshly prepared at home seasoned the way YOU want it seasoned ..... again, you have to read the labels to insure that the meat you buy has not been injected .... yes, many fresh, raw, vegetables and fruits (and probably grains/rice) naturally have a certain amount of salt/sodium in them .... it is a fact of life (celery in particular) ..... but the content is well within dietary restrictions ...... one can eat quite healthfully without adding salt (much salt) to one's diet.

When I was a foreman for an iron and steel manufacturing factory, I told my workers if they had even a slight fever, to just call in (my state has a 3-day self-certify ill policy). If I saw a worker on the floor and it was obvious they were sick, I would send them home immediately - first: a steel worker working while ill is a danger to others, second: working hard is a light workday (if you weren't sweating bullets and totally exhausted at the end of the day, you didn't apply yourself - steel work if TOUGH - so if you try to work when ill, you will only make yourself MORE ill, and third: Nobody wants to catch whatever the ill person is sick with, fourth: to make someone ill work iron and steel is just cruel.
I was adamant on this policy and when my employees figured out how empathetic their foreman (me) was about their personal health, they were loyal workers and very rarely did anyone take advantage of calling in sick.
Being cool to your employees not only keeps them healthy, but it improves loyalty to the boss and they are more productive when they are working their hard shift. It was win-win for all.

So I’m from Scotland and yes, our doctors are amazing with writing notes/letters. Back when my body wasn’t as crippled and bedridden as it is, I attended College in my early 20’s and had a very ableist lecturer who tried giving me hassle about needing to take my medications (she harassed other students who needed to do anything medical/disability related), apparently me quietly taking my pain medication for my permanent nerve damage was a “massive distraction”… that nobody noticed, or cared about, as I was very quiet and you wouldn’t notice unless you _knew_ to look out for me *needing* to take regular medications. It just looked like I was having a drink of water, that’s it.
She demanded I leave the room every time I need to take my meds, magically change the time I take my meds (it’s every 6 hours, so she only saw me take meds a handful of times the entire time she knew me), or I use the totally sanitary toilets to take my meds. She moaned at the head of department, who was another power tripping woman with nothing better to do than whinge at people all day long and then wonder why nobody liked her, and I straight up told her this is harassment and ableism as I was being specifically targeted because of my disability. She claimed an “easy” way to solve the “problem” was to get an official doctors letter to prove I needed to take medications and that I actually had this disability, even tho you can’t harass a student and tell them to prove they’re disabled, because literally no other disabled student needed to prove they were disabled and just needed to take their meds.
So I told my doctor, who’s been my General Practitioner for over a decade, been there to get professional help when being diagnosed for PTSD and is keenly aware of my nerve damage and has bugged the hospital when necessary for specialist appointments, and she was FURIOUS.
“They literally cannot ask you to prove you’re disabled, and cannot tell you when you can take your meds, and cannot tell you to take them in toilets, so they want a letter? Fine, they can have a letter.”
    So she wrote something like
“I can confirm my long term patient Sarah has been professionally diagnosed with cPTSD & PTSD, and permanent nerve damage and as such, suffers from two major invisible disabilities. Sarah needs to take daily medications to cope with these disabilities, and it is at her discretion when she takes her medications. Sarah needs to take her medications several times a day, at whatever time she feels is necessary, in whatever location she feels is necessary, as Sarah taking her medications to ease her disabilities does not affect anyone. I should like to remind the University that Disabilities is a protected class under the Equality Act (2010) and the College should tread very carefully, as I am very angry on behalf of my patient for needing to write this letter. In short, it is up to Sarah’s discretion when she takes her medications and where she takes her medications, as she is required to take them several times a day.”
The head of department was furious because my doctor didn’t give specific times and made her anger very clear, and the lecturer that gave me hassle was told to back off. I also let the College know I would be speaking to the Student Union (which I later joined and volunteered for, where I became the Equality & Diversity Officer and helped other students facing this problem) regarding the clearly ableist behaviour and has several witnesses to my lecturers outbursts about me taking meds when I didn’t disturb anyone and nobody would actually notice as they’d be in my hand and put into my mouth as I drank my juice, and drinking juice was allowed in our lecture rooms and nobody noticed, folk only began to notice AFTER her outburst.
And when I moved on from College to University? None of my lecturers cared, none. Nada. Zilch. They just wanted to know if there was anything they could do to help with my disabilities as I can get in huge amounts of pain sitting around in lecture room seats and they gave me a room to myself for written exams, where the exam could be paused to allow me to move around the room to ease my nerve damage, and made sure I knew where all the ramps and lifts were (I walk with a cane and struggle with stairs). MASSIVE attitude difference, the University was more than happy to accommodate and were upset on my behalf hearing how the College had asked me to not only prove I need to take my medications, but prove I’m actually disabled in the first place. My doctor maliciously complied and wrote a banger of a letter tho, doctors over here are fantastic at supporting you with a written letter if you’ve a horrid boss, they get angry on your behalf because they hate seeing people treated like rubbish and forced to work when they’re clearly ill.

That's hilarious! It reminds me of when I worked at a Bob's Big Boy restaurant decades ago. One of our customers always demanded his Big Boy cheeseburgers extra rare with the cheese melted and would get upset when that didn't happen. Now, these double burgers were very thin and it was extremely difficult to do that, since the burgers were so thin that if you put the cheese on there long enough to melt, the burgers were no longer rare. I always dreaded him coming in. Eventually, one of our cooks figured out he could accomplish that by putting the cheese on the grill for a short period of time before adding it onto the burgers (which was technically against "the rules" but our manager was OK with it because he wanted to make this customer happy). The guy actually became one of my most loyal (and well-tipping) customers after that; and I always shared his tip with that cook because he deserved it for coming up with the solution.

I later contacted the main store manager to tell him what happened and the other idiot had already written it up as no call, no show and he considered it as me quitting. I proved that I had called in sick. Later the jerk manager was fired because I apparently wasn't the only one he'd done that sort of thing to. Sometimes people just suck.

Ugh, one thing I really hate about traffic cops is that every single time the first thing they ask if the driver knew what the cop pulled you for.
It’s a dirty trick. He’s hoping that you’ll give him a roadside confession which guarantees that he has solid grounds to issue you a ticket.
For example, he asks the question hoping that you’re not going to realise the trap because you’re going to answer without thinking about it first. For example. “Oh yeah I was speeding.” And voila! You just confessed that you were breaking the law by speeding. And it’s somehow worse if the cop didn’t have a dashcam with proof you were speeding and had no evidence of it.

Normal bread has like a quarter teasoon of salt for the entire loaf, and you could leave that out if you're baking from scratch. Make yourself plain bread rolls for buns (not the brioche buns you normally see).

First story, as someone who has dietary restrictions due to allergies and intolerances, and who has a partner with food allergies and intolerances, I appreciate that a business has policies like this! You won't believe how many times I had to send back a burger to have it remade, just to NOT have cheese on it. I'm not joking.
One time my significant other and I stopped at a McDonalds to grab something to eat, because it was cheap and near the bus stop. My partner has a dairy allergy, so no milk/cheese/butter/ect. I had to have the burger sent back FOUR TIMES because each time they would do the same thing, put cheese on it. I was getting pissed and actually waited at the counter when the manager finally came out and I explained we asked for this burger to not have cheese not simply out of a preference, but an actual allergy and I have asked it to be remade multiple times, but each time it came with cheese. The manager then brought us a new burger and apologized for it. I told him he should try and instruct the staff to be more careful about order preferences because some people do have food allergies and dietary restrictions. Once is fine, but as many times I had to send the burger back was RIDICULOUS.
Want to know the crazy thing? On their online menu most burgers have cheese on it by default. There's only one kind of "Hamburger" which is in the cheap menu. And they sometimes STILL will mess that up. I get that sometimes things are missed, but when it comes to food, prep and cooks should really double check the order to make it right.

I had my husband call in for me because I couldn't talk, but my supervisor refused to listen and said if I really had something wrong, I would either send a doctor's notice or call myself. Obvs, can't talk, so can't call. So I went to a doctor's office, writing on a pad I told the doctor what was going on. The scars on my voicebox are from having a bad cough in my teens due to pneumonia and ending up with some tearing because of it. After an exam, he wrote that I was *not* to go back to work until the cough subsided, due to the risk of further damage to my larynx. LOL I ended up nearly 3 weeks of paid leave. Of course I spoke very little all three weeks, every whisper sent me into coughing fits, but other than that, it was very relaxing to just kick back for a while.

My question is, why DIDN'T Tom "accidentally" drop that unholy concoction in The Karen's office, and all over her floor (ideally, carpet)? Opps.

Because it would have been the custodians that would have had to deal with it, not her.
She'd probably even give them more of a problem when they were unable to get the smell or of her office

In New Zealand its 24-48 hr after you last threw up/had a loose bowl movement before you can go back to work esp with food related areas.
As for drs note, one can be asked for at any stage, if work asks for a note and it covers 2 days or less the work place has to pay for it, as soon as it covers 3 days or more the employee pays

There was a study done at some ivy league school that invalidated the 5 second rule. They placed 2 items on the cafeteria floor and roped it off, one wet food and one dry food (a skittle). There was no transfer to the wet food for several hours and no transfer at all to the dry food.

I had a similar problem with an officer and a stop sign. As I approached the stop sign I down shifted (manual transmission) and as there is a slight upgrade, when I reached the sign, I held for the car in place by slipping the clutch long enough to check for cross traffic. When I started moving, red lights. The officer had stopped me for no brake lights. I tried to tell him I didn't use the brakes and showed him the lights worked. He then told me he was going to write me for failure to stop, since the lights never came on. I explained what I had done and he told me that was "a bunch of bull". I told him to call his supervisor or at least someone with a brain. That upset him but he did call the supervisor. When the supervisor arrived, I explained what I had done and he turned to the officer and said "Are you out of your mind? If you had paid any attention, it all makes sense." I didn't get the ticket. However, if I had been in OP's situation I was NOT stopped for more than 5 seconds.

Sadly, in the US, most restaurant employees (waiters, cooks, cashiers, at both fast food and sit down dining establishments) A. Do NOT get health insurance, so they can't even go to the Dr if they need to. And,
    B. They do not receive sick pay. So no matter HOW sick they are, they usually HAVE to go to work anyway.
Yes. That means EXACTLY what you are thinking. During the winter, your food is likely handled in some way by someone who is sick.

Had a cop pull me for "rolling through a stop sign", I told him I did stop he said I did not, asked for my license and registration, I gave it to him and said, "I have a dashcam, so if this goes to court I'll show you are either incompetent or a liar". He gave me back my stuff and left without another word.

For the Stop Sign story. Stateside there is no time to it. You are only required to come to a complete stop. The instructors doing the 123 is a good way to make sure a cop can't try to say it was a rolling stop cuz u would be able to see the wheels fully stopped in that amount of a pause.

Story 2. Wish we had strong labor laws like that. I worked full time had like 28 days of sick time and almost 30 days of vacation I'd never used. Spring beat the crap out of me and I had to call in sick. Early summer I get pulled in by boss and told I call in sick twice more this YEAR I'm fired. All my sick days we marked unexcused absences. Guess who got food poisoning over Thanksgiving, like OP spend all morning spewing out both ends, and got fired?

Story 1: There is salt in just about every processed food, as it's a preservative. Bread, pickles, bacon, and pretty much every condiment all have salt. Not to mention that unseasoned meat tastes pretty terrible compared to food that's prepared properly.

  • @Volron265
    @Volron265 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Regarding stop signs, I'm almost entirely certain the *actual* law is that you just have to come to a complete stop before resuming motion. No counting, no minimum, just a complete halt. Usually, pressing a bit firmer on the brake right before stopping will give others a visual cue, and give you a physical indication, that you have, indeed, stopped according to the law.

First story: I have a sneaking suspicion that the guy ordered his burger with no salt on the patty just to ensure that it was made fresh (not prepared earlier & sitting under a heat lamp). People do that at fast food places, ordering items with no salt but then grabbing a few salt packets.
