Back when salesdrones at The Shack Of Radios would ask all sorts of nosy name'n'address, I'd give my name as "Joe Batman" or such.
      "Hyuk, hyuk, 'Batman', eh?"
"Uhh, it's not bat-MAN, it's BAT-min, like 'Bateman' but minus the 'e'. Must be nice to make fun of peoples' names, eh? Wonder what your manager would think about his people doing that to customers..."
      [surprised Pinkachu faces]
Probably had them all crapping themselves thinking I was gonna complain about them to the manager. Never did, but it was fun watching them squirm every time one of 'em would do it.

@@joeschmo622 Remember Joe Lewis, the famous boxer from way back? A guy told me a story once about his neighbor back in the 60's during Vietnam, whose husband was out on a Navy deployment. She was "Mrs. Lewis". Well, MR. Lewis came home unexpectedly and early in the middle of the night. The next day, the guy I know was out in his yard, and a short, small, red-headed man came over to the fence, stuck out his hand, and said "Hi! I'm Joe Lewis!" The other guy grabbed his hand and said "Hi! I'm Santa Claus!" Mr. Lewis was a bit puzzled at first, but the 2 guys worked out the confusion within a few minutes and became good friends.

Every time we are out somewhere and get asked the - name, address, phone # my husband without a beat would say
      Getty Lee,
      2112 Main St
and then give them an old number that has been off for years.
He does this at Great Cuts. The first time I went with him , the girl at the counter asked for the info and hubby started with the Getty Lee, I snickered. Then, she turned to me to ask my name. Hubby said, " Mrs Lee." Without missing a beat. 😂😝
Hopefully, all you RUSH fans find that funny. 😁

    • @cullenlatham2366
      @cullenlatham2366 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, that is true, but the issue is far more complex than that. If you dont mind a bit of my capitalism cynic coming out, how much of that cash for the business actually stays in circulation or is at least used to pay their employees a fair wage? To be clear, this is far from reality, and there are those businesses that care about their employees, but it is so easy to see the faceless corporation as evil and greedy. Now, such a story as is in this video just shows why these karens, as disgusting as their scams are, function in the good of society, but only under one very specific lens. When the business becomes an uncaring machine that eats up and spits out their frontline workers, karens are the smoke that emanate from the machine and force the mechanic to come in and gut the broken parts that survive by breaking those below it on the hierarchy. The machine's mechanic and its owner do not always align, and the only long-term solution is for the mechanic and owner to be the same person, or at the very least be considered as equals while reflecting on the most common defects. The Karen won in this story, but the same greed that let them win will eventually be their downfall. The machine needed to be broken to win, and a working machine will spit out the garbage recognizing what it is.

My favorite boss ever was at a sandwich shop downtown that ended up with lots of business people there for some conference or another. If they didn’t remove their name badge/tag, he would yell their first name like a long lost friend and try to convince them that he had grown up with them or known them at college. It was awesome to watch them fumble around and try to figure out who he was. He was so convincing. I started getting really excited when I saw someone come in with a name tag knowing what was coming.

Years ago I had one of those "cowboy name tag" belt buckles with my first name on it. One day my wife and I were walking into the Post Office and a guy walking out says "Hi Mark". Without missing a beat I say back to him "Hey John".
My wife looks at me and asks "Who was that?" I said I'd never seen him before. She asks "Then how did he know your name and how did you know to call him by name?" I said "My belt buckle says "Mark" and the name tag on his shirt said 'John' ".

It proves that even management needs to actually do their jobs or else something like this would happen. I really don’t understand how those two got to be managers. I didn’t even hit supervisor level before I learned the sad truth that retail staff have to be very careful when making special offers and handling customers who make fusses or interact with special offers. Constant vigilance and care and fact checking.
Because there are always people like that Karen out there. They’ll always try to exploit every single weakness and loophole in the system to scam anyone or anything out of anything of even mild value.
If a customer complains about a member of staff you get both sides of the story and check the cameras. NEVER take a customer at their word.
That being said I do understand other situations. If you’re tired, it’s the middle of your shift and as a manager you have a ton of work to do and you’ve got a stupid customer screaming in your face about a trivial matter, I understand why many managers will just give the screamers what they want or some kind of appeasement they don’t deserve just to get that screaming banshee out of their face and out the store.
It’s cowardly and wrong, encouraging more bad behaviour in future but I do understand why some managers cave in.

So one day as I was grocery shopping I happened to see some jalapeno peppers, that looked incredibly viscous. Even the smell from a few feet away made my eyes water. So, I bought a few for my hubby, thinking, let's just see how tough you are. When he got home from work I showed him the peppers and warned him that they looked extremely hot. He scoffed at me and popped a whole pepper in his mouth, chewing happily. He then starts to say, "tell me when to swallow" when the heat hit him. He began sputtering and choking, tears ran down his face, and he couldn't drink enough milk fast enough. Oh- second story for me on convenience/gas station work: late 80’s Wareco station in a small town. My manager was a sleeze who frequently made mild but harmless flirtations. Well- harmless until they started getting less harmless- and could not be ignored. Finally one day i responded NO- in a way that everyone around got the point. (No scene- just one word spoken in clear and determined manner). This apparently bruised his ego. I had been telling my dad and he had been giving me warnings to proceed with caution. Week later he was playing with the credit card machine (old style where you set amount with levers) while chatting with customers. Then the next day i was for charging a card 100,000 over the amount purchased. (Basically, when he stepped aside so i could do the transaction, he previously would zero out machine levers from where he had been playing with them. On one occasion he left the far left lever on “1” and i didn’t notice- no one had ever needed the levers for 1,000 let alone 10,000 or 100,00). I called dad crying. Dad owned a car dealership based out of Quad Cities. Unbeknownst to me- dad (out of town/divorced) had contract with wareco to buy their gas for all his fleet. As a result- he was literally buddies with the owner of this particular fuel company chain. He picked up the phone and called his buddy. He simply warned him that the manager of my store appeared to be less than stellar in character- and if his hunch was correct- that was an indicator of deeper issues. so- shortly after- my store was audited by company accountants. And (drum roll please) my dad was correct. Stunning amounts of embezzlement was found. Apparently the manager thought small town far from base of ops would be easy pikins. He may have succeeded for many years- Til he stupidly acted shady in other ways. 😁

18:18 it annoys me greatly that managers don't see the flaws in their decisions, and the greatest responses to those ridiculous decisions, are "are you sure you wanna do this?" Or "can I get that in writing?" Because 90% of the time, it back fires, horribly! Because manager don't understand that people misconstrued the phrase "the customer is always right" and us it to power trip and bully their way to get discounts and free stuff they don't deserve, I think my uncle who had the dumbest boss who the epitome of misbegotten, had 6 writing permission to do the illegal stuff he was told to do by his boss

Also, the only way for the OP to win was by remaining "neutral". With the intent to assist, the security footage would have made for one more firing on top of the deserved ones. We do not know what followed, and better management may have been enough to save the workplace environment but assisting the "robbery" would have burned that bridge before they had the chance to cross it.

Getting coffee at Starbucks and then sitting at the table with some friends pre-covid, a young Mexican man came in and ordered coffee. It seems instead of asking the young man to spell out his name she a young white woman decided against her better judgement to write a racial slur of a Mexican name. She made the mistake of laughing about it with another customer so she was infact being racist and it backfired on her ass big time. The man came back with the cup and asked for the manager of Starbucks. He showed him the cup and the name on it, and as if the heavens opened up a another customer a older black woman came back into the store she was carrying her cup with the n word written on it and demanded the manager also. This barista tried lying through her teeth claiming she couldn't spell the names, the older black woman's name was Kathy, the same name as the manager of Starbucks by the way and the customer who she told what she did turned her in in a heartbeat alongside me and my friends since we overheard her laughing about it. She was fired right then and there and the whole Starbucks baristas had to go through retraining cause of her racist actions towards two customers.

In regards to the first story, I didn't even let customers know my real name when u was working the graveyard shift as a cashier, which for 95% of the time I was alone. For context, I'm a petite female in my early 20s with bright green hair that liked to wear cutesy little clips and pigtails occasionally. I was sexually harrased for everyday for two straight months and my manager thought it was really funny (a fellow woman mind you). She would just say it came with the job and to tell them to leave when they got explicit. I even had a customer refuse to leave the store without my number once and it made me really fear for my safety. I also really hated that these guys would use my name while saying obscene comments about me when I had no clue who they were. One even saw my boyfriend drop me off, asked for my number, and when i said "Sorry, but no, i have a boyfriend", he described my BF in great detail and threatened to beat the crap out of him. I started carrying mace for agressive customers so I came up with the best solution I could. At first I hung a small note card saying "Please do not solicit the cashier for her phone number. You will be asked to leave. Thank you! :)" But I had a manager from another store throw it away while saying, "You can be a big girl and tell them no. This is unprofessional." It was really demeaning but I figured out a better solution. I was getting really into Mr. Show at the time so one night before my shift I took my name off of my name tag and replaced it with the name "Bob." I did still get called plenty of names for masking up, but I only got hit on once after that. It also inspired plenty of laughs and when people inquired about why I took my name off, I told them that this is the only way i could keep guys from hitting on me. I also encouraged other cashiers to do the same. I worked with a "Jay" and "Dijon" before I quit due to more managerial incompetence and it was glorious! :)

@@SonsOfLorgar but don't worry, I quit the day before Halloween so that manager got roped into working the 10pm-6am shift for the first time in 10 years.

As funny as leaving that Karen on the roof is, I hope that she wasn't locked on the roof and could actually get back down.

I was joking with a couple about how cheap the guy was being. He was ordering one combo to share, soda also. I called him Jack Benny. So, when it was time to ask for his name, he told me that it was Jack Benny. I dutifully put it in. When his food was ready, he had forgotten his name. I brought it to him and did a poor imitation of Jack Benny. They became my favorite couple.

I'm honestly surprised the Karen didn't leave with more like she had her entire family with her right? Why didn't they pull up in multiple vehicles and say we're filling every single gas tank and then just start going in the back taking shit out by the case they said ANYTHING ! THEY literally said ANYTHING.. $780? No bro.. With like three cars with full gas tanks, that store would have been DONE! I'm talking I would have gotten Google Play cards like I would have just been going sick and she couldn't get arrested because they literally said "GIVE HER ANYTHING SHE WANTS".
I mean she TECHNICALLY could have asked for all the money in the register too because she said give her anything she wants!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 lol

My Uncle always used the name "Lipshits" even in restaurants when waiting for a table. You know what? They always came to him in person and escort him to his table or let him know his drink is ready. NO ONE ever calls his name out - A well executed plan!

Story 4: shoplifting is shoplifting, even when the DM & store manager are both Karens themselves! Jail time, hefty fines, lifetime of shame is what they all deserved including the original Karen & her whole thieving family. Blacklisting & trespassing is nowhere near enough of a punishment.

I use "Scooby" when I have to give a name at a restaurant. It makes the counter person giggle and I sometimes get free extras because of it.

I personally, use my name when ordering food, but a friend of mine used to use "Voldemort" when placing food orders. It made more than a few workers nervous.
