I love the situation with the deli ham and the woman demanding to see a manager. It reminds me of a time when I just started to work in the mens department of Montgomery Ward as a teenager in the 1980s. I had been there about 2 weeks and had one customer come in wanting to exchange a coat he purchased. I was nervous because I couldnt find the coat on the rack he puchased and went back to look at the label in the coat. After seeing the label, I politely told the customer that I was sorry but I could not exchange the coat. Before I could tell him why, he cut me off yelling that he demanded to speak to a manager at the top of his lungs. I calmly told him that I would be glad to get a manager but before I do, he needed to see the coat label. I told him "it says Sears, Roebuck & Co". He looked at me blankly like I was stupid and rudely yelled "SO, WHATS YOUR POINT?" I calmly and politely said "Sir, this is Montgomery Ward. Sears is our direct competitor and their store is in another mall 12 miles away. I cannot take back a coat that we don't sell. Would you still like to speak with a manager?" He turned red in the face, grabbed the coat and ran out the door. As I turned around, I saw my manager who had come over to the men's department because this man was heard all over the store screaming at me. She had just quietly walked up behind me just as I told him that I would be glad to get a manager. She was red in the face wih tears streaming down her face and covering her mouth. Just as the customer walked out of the door, she couldn't control herself any longer and laughed hysterically at what just happened. She told me how proud she was in the way that I calmly and politely handled him and the fact that she didn't have to speak with him as she was barely able to control her laughter and probably would have been fired!

    4th story: I have a similar story.
I was in McDonalds ordering breakfast. There was a young woman who was looking flustered and having a bit of trouble. She was making a few mistakes here and there. It was her 2nd day and she had never worked fast food before (total sympathy here).
The guy who was shadowing her and her trainer was not a nice person. Every time she made a mistake, he belittled and/or yelled at her. After hearing this for a bit, I yelled at him.
I loudly said, "I don't care who you think you are! You do NOT get to treat her like that, nor talk to her like she's a child."
He thumped over to me and said, "Sir, this is a private matter and really none of your business."
I walked away and sat down, telling mom (who was with me) about the guy and what he was doing. Now, an older woman at the table next to us perked up and asked me about what I saw. After telling her, she got this determined look on her face and grabbed her tote bag. She asked me to point the guy out. So we walked back up to the counter. But I didn't need to point the guy out, as she could already see him in action.
She got someone's attention and said who she was (regional manager), showing her name tag and papers and that she wanted to speak to the manager. Person goes pale and runs off, bring the manager back. She reiterates her credentials to him and they have a short conversation, at which point, the loud guy gets pulled aside and given a firm talking to by not only the manager, but by her.
Now she didn't have him fire. She had him sent back for retraining, as well as some anger management and sensitivity training.

The refusing to board the plane thing is going to go a lot worse for the Karen than anybody is thinking -- these days if somebody checks their baggage but doesn't board the plane it's a major red flag. Like, they have to unload all of the baggage and remove her luggage in case it's got something dangerous on it. And if they can, they will absolutely fine the person who missed the flight for the airport fees incurred by the delay - she could be out many hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I don't take items that I could buy later at my destination, things like toiletries, and if there is absolutely something I must have from home, I simply ship it in advance to wherever I go, and then either leave it behind or ship it back home in the same box. I have an Aunt like the brother in the first story. She’s literally argued during a pool party with me about if her dog stole my pizza slice… right after she’d seen the dog grabbed the food, caught him, and pulled it out of his mouth yelling about meat(she had her dog- a HUSKY- on a vegan diet the whole time she had him). I was about 8 at the time.
I also told her I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up(which feels like a fairly mature goal for a 6-7 year old) and she said, and I quote, “if you like animals, you shouldn’t be a veterinarian. You’ll see lots of animals die!” Thaaanks Auntie. That’s the encouragement you should give to children. Her husband is just like her, and I’m so glad they don’t have children . They’d stuff the poor kids with fake vegan cheese and live off restaurants for eternity. She seems to have some aversion to stocking up her pantry with anything other then dates and pecans.
Now to be clear there’s nothing wrong with being Vegan. The problem is when she sat us down and put on a gory documentary about meat farms to try and scare us into being vegan too. Or that she feeds her cats and dogs vegan animal food, completely careless to their dietary needs or the veterinarians advice. Or when my grandmother lived with her and was banned from any non-vegan things, even the milk she takes her pills with. I’m glad I’ve cut off all contact with her, and now I don’t have to listen to her whining about “how mean you all are to me!!”

True though. After binging on these videos I’m starting to truly appreciate how lucky I am to have a decent boss.
When I had to take six weeks minimum to recover from a medical condition that put me in hospital for five days and I came in to hand over my doctors note I also let her see my hospital discharge letter. I didn’t need to but I wanted to ensure beyond doubt the need was legit.
So she reads the doctors note, reads the discharge papers and from the length of time she took I knew she was reading it thouroghly. Finally she said. “If you need more than six weeks, inform me no later than five weeks so I can arrange cover, and we’ll talk about the options for extending the sick leave or use a bit of your annual leave.” She looks me in the eye and says. “I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I don’t want to see you again until you’re fully recovered.” She then explained she’d rather we take our time to get it right than rush me back to work, overdo it and have to take more time off.
Somehow she manages to somehow balance compassion, practicality and efficiency.

In the mid-90's, Doom had been around long enough for people to figure out how to create character skins, and a mod to change the characters to Barney had made its way onto the BBS boards that predated the internet. I had been asked by a friend to install the mod for him, which I did. He started to talk to the owner of the local computer store who asked him to ask me if I could go install it for him. I agreed, and as I was doing the work and started shooting Barney, he looked at me and said "want a job?"

The way I see is that if you do get upgraded for free due to a partially full plane then it’s a nice surprise but I’d never walk into an airport expecting or demanding it.

The allergy story is an example for complete idiotic management. Even without allergies you want to match the knowledge and interest of the employees towards the goods in a section as much as possible. What good is an employee in the garden section who can't distinguish between a tulip and parsley but loves cars and one in the car section who answers a question about beetles with a recommendation for bug spray but loves plants. exchange them and you have two happy employees which might give great customer service on topics they really know.

what i find absolutely annoying is i fly first class. sure its like 2-3x coach, but the extra space is so worth it when you are flying for more than 1 hour, and i typically do 3-4 hour flights. but what i find absolutely annoying is they announce their first loading which is usually people in wheelchairs or people with toddlers that need extra time to board. then the huge flock of people all crowd up the line to get on the plane waiting and they are all coach. i am always like wtf, all you are doing is blocking those that they are calling to board from boarding. when they finally announce first class i always make a point to walk up to the crowd of people asking if they are first class and trying to board, and when they inevitably say no, then say why are you blocking me from boarding, its not like the seats are first come first serve.

  • @MikeyAllenPoe
    @MikeyAllenPoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

To Up Your Chances on getting Upgraded to a First Class Seat on a flight is 1. Dress the part. If you're dressed nice & professional; 3 piece suit or even a blazer, ladies a nice dinner dress; they're more likely to bump you up because ppl in first class like to see ppl who at least look like they belong in first class. 2. When boarding the plane acknowledge the flight attendants with a genuine smile & "GoodMoring/Evening how's your day going today?" or some other polite greeting. Flight Attendants always have to attend strangers & never really get the appreciation for it. By acknowledging one & talking to one as a human rather as a servant, will get you noticed. 3. Be patient & kind with other passengers. If youre taking your time in a calm manner to help others & be the last to bored, chances are all uphead storage compartments may be full in economy. So, since you were so lovely, patient & kind, you are more likely to get an upgrade. 🤗

In story 3, its possible that the agreement to split the bill 3 ways was either in writing, or somehow proper enough to hold up as a contract/formal agreement in court. So even if the bill was in her name, theres a chance that it could be taken to court to try and get the 80 bucks from OP and roommate. (Even if it didnt end up succeeding, it couldve held enough water to not just instantly get dismissed, and cost OP more than the 40 bucks in fees.) That said, the late fees are entirely on her, as OP absolutely made the attempt to make the payment happen, and the ex very clearly and explicitly (in text/writing) was making the choice not to pay the bill that was in her name. So the fees are on her. So it sorta makes sense that OP/roommate are paying the $80, if just to cover their asses.

I’m not saying they’re lazy or should always assume the worst, but _no_ complaints would be a red flag for me. The electric bill story reminded me of an old roommate I had. The lease was in both our names and half the utilities were split. The electric was in her name. So my roommate decided she wanted us to move to a different city but I did not want to move out of the city I was in. So she left 2 months before the lease ended. We had discussed that she would cover the remaining months left on the lease, but no she signed something at the leasing office that removed her from the lease. So now my rent doubled for two months. I was so mad. So she moved but did not transfer the electric bill into my name and I just stopped paying it. I figured if she is going to screw me on rent I will screw her on the electric bill.

Yes Yes it is I saw it on a connecting flight in Atlanta (can you guess the airline?) Old lady with a slightly younger boyfriend was in first class and was demanding her boyfriend be moved from economy to first due to her yelling the gate agent noped out of it. They were tired the plane was running almost 2 hours late and they had massive delays all day long due to perpetual pop up thunderstorms and it's almost 10:00PM. Ironically this meant they couldn't upgrade anyone and barring her and a few others (myself included) first class was wide open. The FAs were basically handing us baskets of snacks and multiple soda cans saying take them with you cause we have to toss them in the trash I offered to send some back to the back but because of screaming banshee they had to follow strict rules and couldn't do that or upgrade anyone.

My daughter loved Barney when she was young. But the books she forced me to read to her were the ones I was reading. By the time she was 4, I had read her Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Jurassic Park. Then she asked her father “Daddy, what kind of dinosaur is Barney.” For the rest of the time that she had the stuffed Barney, the Green Power Ranger was riding him and she was feeding all of dolls and stuffed animals to Barney.
