    Fantastic breakdown! I love my Hyper 65s. Over 6500km/4000mi in four months, not a single issue.

      I can’t decide between 65 and 50. I ride all flats with mostly windy conditions and occasionally go for climbing races 1/2 times a year. 50s are definitely faster for crits. What would you suggest?

      @@AdventurismPk For crit racing it really depends on the circuit/course. Races with constant accelerations and surges...50mm would be marginally more optimal and lighter. For road races or fast group rides I prefer 65s no question.

      Can’t decide if I should go for Hyper 65 or Hyper 50. I ride and race 95% of the days on flat roads with mild windy conditions. Just 2 hilly races in a year. Hyper 50 definitely are marginally more responsive as per reviews on the internet so definitely a plus for crit races. What’s your experience with 65s. Also what would you recommend in my case.

      @@AdventurismPk I own the 65s in both disc AND rim brake LoL. I take them out in the country side with tough rolling hills at least 3-4 times a year. No issues in climbing and stable in crosswinds. Take the 65s if you weigh at least 70kg or more.

    the wrinkling is not from the carbon but from the bladder. The older ones were a latex type and the newer bladders are PPE, which is a harder material

    Solid video! I have been on the 65 Hyper Wheels now for a few weeks, with daily use, and 100% enjoying them. I have the Hyper 38's and Hyper 50's plus the LUN 60's and all of the wheels from Winspace seem to be rock solid, very well built and light, and equally fast. Such fun riding these wheels from Winspace!

      Which would you consider best all rounder for flats/climbing? I am leaning toward the 38s hyper

      @@vedhed7969 I will say this... the HYPER Wheels size 38's are fantastic Wheels. On the flats they roll really amazing for size 38 climbing Wheels. Every time I use the 38's I am never disappointed or asking more from the Wheels. Best climbing Wheels I have ever used by far. I think a lot of this is from the pure stiffness or the Wheels and the strength of the overall build. On the flat roads they feel outstanding for a Wheel of that size rim. I do a lot of Criterium racing and like the 50's and the 65's. If I did not race Criterium events and I had to pick one model of Wheels for group rides, hill rides, and all around solo cruising on the bike I would buy the 38's. Hope that answers your questions!

      Did you have any issues with those spokes twisting ? My back wheel has spokes that have moved significantly and are now acting as wind sails

      @@timconnor2381 oh no!! You should take some photos and send them to the Winspace email address and I would think they would respond. Maybe they have advice. I have not had any spoke issues. Are you using RIM Brake version? what size rim depth do you use? I have all the HYPER Wheels sizes and I have been riding them basically every day or at least 5 times a week for a long time now and I have not noticed any spoke issues at all. Interesting how your back wheel had issues but the front wheel nothing?

    IMO elite drive 50D or 65D wheels seem a better choice. Spoke tension within 5% of variation, glossy finish protecting the rim surface, lighter, and crossing spokes do not touch each other. Thanks for the thorough review.

    Reson for spokes being crossed on the rotor side is to be able to transfer the torque from the disc rotor to the rim and the tyre. Only on the rim brake rims you can see full radial spokes

    Love the "sound test" - I have done this for many years. Simple and effective. Good to do once in a while. Can also detect possible defects.

    Than you for the good review! Regarding rim width: I am happy it is not too wide for 23 mm tires as this is the most aerodynamic option. It would be nice to have wider rim for occasional gravel uses though.

      Spoke angle is more a concern when using aluminium nipples as they often deform and break , not so much a performance issue.

    In the past 2 cross spokes would be welded at the cross or tied with wire to prevent fibbing and increase rigidity the problem is replacement is costly if you weld spokes. The aspect of wear is a non issue unless your in mud and grit everyday which most people are not....if you where other issues would happen before spoke wear.

    Interesting regarding the spokes touching where they cross - My 65mm hyper disk wheels are laced the other way (from inside of the hub underneath and outside of hub over the top), so the spokes do not bow over/under each other and therefore do not touch. Perhaps they changed the way they build the wheels after seeing your video?

      Just received my hyper 50’s last week and none of the drive side spokes touch. I emailed Winspace since this is different to what I have seen in videos and pictures. Winspace confirmed this is built as intended and not to worry, for anyone wondering!

    Have these wheels and I agree nice wheels for the money and fast as well. First thing I did was remove all the "hyper" labels on the wheels. Like he said labels are stickers but with a heat gun, a plastic scraper, and with a lot of patience they come off and trust me the wheels look so much better without the labels. I do wish the internal width could be a little more wider but not a big deal. If you live and ride in a very windy area the wind will catch that 65mm front wheel and could get a little sketchy at times. I do find the wheels getting out of true after riding them for awhile. Turing the wheels you will need to remove the tubeless rim tape and you need to get a 5.5mm internal spoke socket wrench to true the wheels. Turing the wheels with the internal socket wrench is very easy just make sure you hold tge nipple so the bladed carbon spokes don't twist. Will need to buy new and replace the tubeless rim tape after. Best to check how true the wheels are every time you have to replace the tires.

    Spoke tension on the rear driveside is always way higher than on the non-driveside because the rear wheels are not symmetric.

      This is not the case for these wheels, as they use 2:1 lacing. Since there are 2x as many spokes on the driveside, the spoke tension will actually be higher on the non-driveside.

    Crossing spokes purposely touch to lend support to each other making the wheel stronger. I don't know if this is true but it is something I read from wheel building instructions.

    I thought the spokes touching in the cross section was supposed to increase lateral stiffness a bit, is this false? I think in my mind it kind of makes sense.

    Winspace distributing their wheels & bikes to a lot of the non schill channels for advertisement is great but still not convinced in their quality & asking price over the other Chinese or non branded carbon wheels. By being half the price of the big brands doesn't mean they are worth 4x more than a non branded wheelset.

      I don't dispute the quality but I've had built to order wheels to my desires ex China and for around $600 to $800 delivered they are solid and reasonably light.

      Anything in cycling that says this and that are not worth their price. Its all marketing bs. Aero this lighter that but then your average punter are most likely fat af and need to lose weight so they can become more aero and lighter on the climbs. Its all placebo and marginal gains for a couple of thousands.

      You can watch the stiffness tests on these wheels, they outperform most brands, same as shimano even, same as a full disc wheel also.
      Climbing tests have shown a drop in time also. Very stiff

    I would definitely consider these, but I won't ride anything less than 80mm depth, sadly the hypers aren't that deep :)

      From what I am seeing about how aero these wheels are, you might be surprised that these 65s are probably only a few watts slower than most 80mm wheels. The 50mm Hypers are about 100g lighter than these, and again, only a few watts slower than the 65mm wheels.

      @@casualguy393 In my experience, 88mm is a big step up from 60mm, and a lot more meaningful than the difference between 50 -> 60.
      Everyone says "oh its only a few watts, and then a few more watts, till you are 30watts in the hole.

      @@galenkehler Well, you are mostly right. It is a 15mm difference in depth. However, it also depends on the shapes of the spokes and the actual shape of the rim too. Older 80mm rims aren't quite as aero as newer 80mm rims. So, I doubt it would be in the range of 30 watts, but I get your point ;)

    To determine of center I use feeler gauges however a modification with a digital caliper is much more handy.

      No. Only if they rub which usully means the spoke tension is too low for the riders weight.

    Hello sir, I got some Hyper 65mm for my road bike and did a few rides on them so far.
    Today while cleaning, I noticed the carbon feels "soft" on BOTH rims, as in: I can push "into" the rim slightly, (It does "flex" back).
    Is this part of the engineering, or are they a liability? i can send a video of the flexing.

      Carbon fibre is a laminate and can be damaged by flexing its structure. Avoid trying to flex any carbon product.

    19mm ID is pretty narrow for modern rims, would like to see 21 or even 23.

      @@galenkehler Then you should know the aerodynamic advantage comes from a flat and minimal transition between tire sidewall and rim wall. You need at least 21mm ID for a smooth transition on 25c+ tires. A lightbulb shape isn't fast and these are advertising aerodynamics... These wheels are already behind several competitors on rim width and will be outdated in just a couple years.

      @@cup_and_cone that's why we use 19c rims, so that 25c tires provide a nice aerodynamic fit.
      Touring, MTB or gravel cyclist use 28c+ for load carrying or traction offroad.

      @@cup_and_cone you're clearly confused regarding the difference between internal and external widths. These rims are 25mm wide externally at the edge and go up to 28mm to work well with 25c tires.

      @@galenkehler I am not confused at all, you cannot come to the realization that a 19mm internal rim width is not as aero optimized as a wider rim. The new Zipp's have 23mm internal rim width, Roval 21mm, etc. A 25c tire would be more aero if these wheels had a 21mm internal rim width because of better laminar transition. And with more riders opting for tire options like 26c or 28c, especially in the coming years, a 23mm internal rim width is more future proof.

    These wheels are built using the carbon weaving method... IDK how some "wrinkling" would compromise the structural integrity of any rim. I would suggest watching the @hambini channel to get an engineer's perspective with test data..

    TBH, it is very difficult to reduce the wrinkling on an inner surface of a closed composite material. You hope that these wrinkles are only superficial and belong to the outer layer of the carbon, and not transfer deeper into the structure, causing voids and discrepancies in the strength and properties of the material

      The wrinkles will just be the epoxy that has come out of the weave and filled in the creases in the vacuum bag used to make the wheel. There won't be any issues with the actual carbon.

      I've done some gravel on these wheels already and they are good...softer feel than steel spokes. However a proper gravel rim should be wider.

    You have been using Yoeleo wheelset for long time. After you got Winspace, which one do you prefer to move forward?

      Both are very good wheels. Winspace carbon spoked wheels are lighter however Yoeleo will soon be using carbon spokes also.

      Either. I'm testing ICAN and Farsport wheels at the moment and they are very good too. Chinese carbon products have come a long way in the last few years and take most of the market now.

    50kgf spoke tension looks way too low. You are using a Nitto spoke tension gage which shows deflection in mm then your chart is for Park Tools TM-1 gauge. I'm a little confused.

    Hi Steve, greetings from Indonesia. Have you found an unbalance wheel on winspace ? Maybe your friend or others on your country. Because one of famous cyclist in my country bought 2 wheelset of hyper winspace, they found 2 wheels (9grams unbalance and 20++ grams unbalance.

      Wrinkles mean one or more carbon sheets have separated from the main form. This weakens the strength in the area.

    Your work is always good. But Yoeleo de-stress their wheels and check truing after (just watch the vid). Not saying Winspace are bad but I've had hypers and what no you tuber ever mentions is the greening/browning of resin. It's not uniformed and at $1000 I'd rather have it coated.

      The true was checked first to show how they come from the factory.
      So do you mean degradation of resin by UV light?

      @@stevenleffanue no straight out the box the butterfly weave had inconsistent green and browning resin. You can just about see it in some videos. You've been more in depth than most with testing so kudos there. But no one ever questions what standards they adhere to or external accreditations. I'm curious as you've had so much Yoeleo stuff why you didn't try there Pro 60mm. That would of been good (although not same size).

      @@AdventurismPk yes 50mm is perfect for every day riding in terms of weight and little cross wind effect. The best day to day wheel depth IMO.

    Q, did u eventually correct the slightly twisted spokes that were out & in. Nice explanations. How do u rate them 4 road racing use or training compared 2 Roval.... cheers

      I will ride them as they are for a while then correct the twists.
      Rovals are very good performers. Ive only riden rim brake versions. Similar feel. Rovals slightly more comfortable but not as stiff.

      @@stevenleffanue thx 4 getting back 2 me. I ride a Specialized Tarmac Disk Brakes. 11 speed. Made a few FABULOUS upgrades. Saddle & cockpit. Train on Aluminum DT Swiss Wheels. Have a set of Roval clx40 Tubulars that l need 2 take down 2 my bike shop & remove the Glue. Then use Doulble Sided Tape out of Italy. Currently moving house & found 2 brand new Vittoria Tubulars Kevlar that were designed originally 4 Paris Roubaix. Still in immaculate condition & not perrished at all.
      Ur thoughts on the 38 & 50mm Chinese Wheels pls. If they r stiffer than Roval that is super impressive.
      Love ur Workshop set up. Where r u situated. Cheers Robert Victoria

      @@AdventurismPk Firstly I love my Hyper Lun’s and have done about 2000km on them. It depends on the sort of riding you do and the conditions you ride in. Are you riding hills or mostly on flats, is it generally windy or calm ? For me I definitely wouldn’t go to the 65’s. If anything I am thinking about getting the 38mm. I do a mix of hill climbs and flats but nothing you would call big mountain riding. It can be windy where I live and you definitively can feel them in a cross wind. The 38mm are lighter and would be better on hills especially in windy conditions.

      @@ricecrash5225 appreciate your response. I ride mostly flat with 10-15kph winds on normal days and 20-30kph on bad days. I do 2 hilly races every year. Must go for 50 I guess

    Can you educate me please? Is it true that deeper rims and so shorter spokes are stiffer and and in sum more durable? I heard this somewhere. Im 102kg and really paranoid on spoke breakage.

    Sanding marks from orbital sander! Scratch marks from sanding block! Exposed weave absorbs water over time. The clear coat on composite products, be they fibre glass, carbon fibre, whatever, performs a function. It’s not just aesthetic. Call it the ‘raw’ look. But I’ll pass. Very handy look at the product though. Thanks.

      100% agree. The clear coat has the uv protection and on a product that spends 95% of its life in direct sunlight, leaving that part off seems like a big engineering error.
      Those wrinkles will also be seriously reducing the strength of the weave and also adding additional resin to the wheel.
      Overall, a terrible product.

      @@stevenleffanue looks like a stop motion video after you watch another 60fps video.
      That black background isn't great either, often the parts are black and your clothes are black.
      Also the fewer colours in the shot, the more your camera, editing software and YT compress your video, effectively saving space by lowering the quality.
      If you film a blue sky, you'll see 7 gradient blue bars in the video after uploading instead of a smooth white to blue gradient

    Nope
    Higher rim = more Flex in the rim before the spokes could flex.
    Deep section wheels are less Stiff and not the best for sprinting

    The properties of a carbon spoke are designed exactly the way there supposed to be... to increase rigidity and performance there over and under lapping crossing is designed as a performance feature based on the structure and properties of a carbon spoke so one should not expect to act and work the same way as a forged stainless steel spoke or other metal spoke...these peoe are engineering the wheel exactly to the way it should work...your not a engineer so there is reason why your doing you tube work.

    GREAT REVIEW however no one really needs 65mm deep douche wheels unless you re a pro TT cyclists or velodrome racers. Average cyclist too heavy and unstable especially in windy conditions ask Froome !! But waste your money however you want it won t make you any better riding your bike does !!

    What idiot is wanting maximum aerodynamics on a 28c tyre?
    Anyone who knows anything about aerodynamics (Hambini) will tell you you want a narrow rim with a 23mm tyre if you want to go fast.
    So being critical of how wide the rim is, is like complaining you can’t get off road tyres on your Ferrari. 😂

      Pros r riding 25c and 28c now. Max. aero for 28c tyre is OD 21mm rim.
