    Marc definitely knows his stuff! Thank you to Jasper and Marc for putting the time into this. We'll say that selling 10 wheels, or 100 wheels, 1000 wheels or 10,000 wheels is totally different. When Jasper got these wheels (red freehub body) we were 95% to a great product. However, when you get into the tens of thousands of units sold, the feedback and data you get really lets you fine tune everything. The later wheels (black freehub body) addressed most of the (small!) problems here. We have legends of the industry like Bruce B(aka the cycle doctor - former record holder for most KMs in a month) and Keith D (record holder for most Strava KOMs) smashing these wheels day-in, day-out. We will continue to listen to feedback and improve where we can. We're super happy that Jasper has had 2-years of trouble-free riding from his wheels and look forward to him having years more!

      Having worked with manufacturers in China, you're spot on. There's a lot of crap due to the sheer volume of global demand and hopes of entering international market. However, there's a surprising number of very decent manufacturers in China that are really annoyed with the majority of poor manufacturers as it makes it incredibly difficult to break into the Western market. Just to add a couple of comments - some people contacted me to comment on the inertia that was mentioned on here. I actually spoke to Jasper about it on the phone. The inertia is a function of the distance or radius squared. So if you have the weight at 10cm form the centerline vs weight 20cm from the centerline of the hub, the difference in inertia is actually 4 times more. 10^2 = 100, 20^2 =400. In most circumstances in the real world, you want to have wheels with low inertia, they will corner faster, accelerate faster and decelerate faster. The bike will also be more nimble. The only time a heavy wheel is advantageous is when you don't have to accelerate or decelerate much.
    There are various wheel companies that go on about having heavy wheels as an advantage, unsurprisingly their wheels are not low weight (low inertia)

    "We know where they are made" Care to elaborate? The cycling industry really needs more transparency. Plenty of brands are made in the same factories, and as a consumer, I'd like to know where my products come from.

    • @jasperverkuijl
      @jasperverkuijl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mmmyeah, it's a very difficult structure in the Chinese carbon story. (i discussed this extensively with both Marc and Winspace)
      One factory can build products in various qualities and specs required by the brand. So just naming the factory will actually not give all the info....
      The factory that makes these parts also makes parts for other high end western brands. But they also make parts for lower end brands at lower quality e.g. (or these are rejected products by a higher demanding brand and than sold to whoever still wants it...)
      It's a long story.
      I don't think that big western A brands openly share what factory their parts are made do they?
      WINSPACE is already very open in their own factory where they do the building and QC of their wheels etc, i think that is really cool! (You can find videos of their factory online and I will share some footage in my next video i got direct from winspace)

    For me the most important question: How many kilometers did you ride with the wheels? Two years sounds like a lot and in my case that would equal to 40k km. I watched the video carefully and you mentioned 7k km. I think this is close to nothing as i would expect for such a wheelset to last much longer. No one would expect any siginificant wear on the bearings especially for high quality hubs such as DTs or white industries. These hubs can easily run 30k or even 40k km before the bearings need to be replaced. Even the trueness of the wheels does not surprise me after these few kilometers. I therefore think it would be more beneficial if you put the mileage in the title of the video and the description of the video.

    • @jasperverkuijl
      @jasperverkuijl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mileage alone doesn't say everything rather sithout the way they are used and conditions of riding, rider etc.
      I actually don't know exactly how many km i did since i ride lots of different bikes and different wheels....🤷🏼‍♂️ But i did quit a big portionn these wheels.
      20k a year is pro level and not that common for most viewers, so to use that as a "standard" would be odd tbh.
      I do agree that mileage says more than timespan. But even good quality bearings can turn to shit in bad conditions while cheap bearings can last a lifetime in sunny weather with smooth roads and proper maintenance. So it's all relative.
      Anyway, I'll have a next video showing more what ive done with the wheels.

      Agree with Oliver D, 7 000 km is not very much for road wheels. I'm a recreational rider and do about 10 000 km/year. I check the bearings and spoke tension twice a year, clean the the freehub body and give it fresh grease. I would be concerned if my wheels got a broken or turning spoke within a year without impact and broken parts in the freehub. If you know how it happened, explain it.

    • @jasperverkuijl
      @jasperverkuijl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@erikarnstrom897 well the turning of the spokes is discussed by Marc, there is not a clear reason to name why this would happen. It wasn’t really big at any spokes, it just needed minor adjustments.
      The broken/rupted spoke occurred during the adjustment (turning) of the spokes.
      Btw, Winspace is working on improved hub/spoke combination to prevent the turning completely.

When you want to test a pair of wheels and tell how they perform, use them and abuse them. Do not limit it to the nice weather rides. Test the bearings. Test the corrosion risk. Do it all. I am a bit disappointed when a review is brought in this way and even more when the feeling is presented that the reviewer is somebody who says what he really thinks and is not limited to contracts etcetera. @@arnoud3ss it's ok to have criticism, but there is always somebody that has something to complain about something....
      In the follow up video i will discuss what I've done with these wheels. I've put these to the test dude, trust me.
      My riding numbers of 2 years are devided over so many bikes! I simply can't put all my kilometers on one bike (or 1 wheelset) because of rental bikes half of my rides, winter bike i use, winter wheels i use, the bike i use to pull the trailer when i train with my kids..... Besides that, due to circumstances i actually rode only about 9k last year (instead of my usual 15k yearly), so i actually did ride a lot on these wheels. I just tried to keep them in top shape over winter!
      It's still 7.000km, some people take more than 2 years to get to that when they own only one bike or one wheelset!, some people never see any "bad weather" or salted roads like we have in the Netherlands (cyslist in California e.g.),.....

    Hmmm... TD;IL that 1464g is classed as a _'heavy'_ wheelset. I had an old set of wheels built for me with DT Swiss RR440 rims and cheap unknown novatec hubs (I think they were F172SB-11S) that weighed 1770g (probably a terrible combination but i was on a budget for something strong as i was a heavy mofo at the time...) Compared to the Winspace set in this video, my RR440's must be like cycling with concrete blocks for wheels.
    In any case. My RR440s are dead. The rear rim started developing cracks so I replaced them with a set of HUNT Race Aero superdura wheels cuz im an 88kg fatty and i use the same bike to do long 100mile+ endurance rides so the new wheels had to be able to carry some extra weight. They are still concrete blocks compared to the winspace (1665g) but they roll and pick up speed so effortlessly.

      The difference between a 1kg wheelset and 1.6kg (65mm) is a maximum of 4 watts. (I assumed all mass was 350 mm from the axle)

      @@elliotpollard9083 I think its a bit more complex.... your assumtion (all mass at 350mm from axle) is exactly the thing that takes away the different Moment of interia. Maybe you know that and I'm not understanding your expalation correctly idk.
      The weight difference of the two is about 180gr. Thats all in the rim because the hubs and spokes are the same. So that will make a big difference in Moment of inertia and feel of the wheels! (like Marc said you can already feel about 50gr..)

    Approximate at 22min, when they are talking about spoke entry angle, the builder was right in the beginning that these hyper spokes angles were out, however what he wasn't right is that these carbon spoke entry angle / hub flange hole drilling angles were initially designed so that the spokes are not touching each other. Going back to earlier winspace website, you can sell those spokes were not touching each other, thus the spoke entry angle was quite straight. However, many straightpull wheel users have reported the rattling noise on their wheels, so many companies started to cross their spokes in order to avoid the noise. Some clever companies will also tell you by doing so will improve the lateral stiffness. Back to the Hyper carbon spoke entry point, now the spokes are crossing each other, the potential consequence will be the spoke breakage, like two knives are constantly grinding each other, after hundreds of thousands rotations, they will fail dangerously. To all carbon spoke riders, make sure you regularly check your spokes for any damage, especially where the spokes are crossing each other.

    • @jasperverkuijl
      @jasperverkuijl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate,
      You are not entirely correct on this.
      I have an early model of the hubs where the spokes are designed to cross and touch each other. Hence they kind of bend around each other which causes the different angles.
      On the new model (i talk about this in the video how they improved the hub design) the spokes still cross but don't touch. (They cross but stay "on one side" of each other).
      So in the new hub the spokes are in a straight line from the rim to hub and don't bend around each other.
      I believe this is only on the back wheel. Currently don't have the new wheels yet so can't check it side by side right now.

      I bought Hunt gravel wheel just a year ago, and now I'm considering purchasing road wheels- again, comparing buying locally made in Asia vs direct from China. Indeed buying locally I see more benefits, are the Winspace wheels better than Hunt to convince me... I dont see it.

    This whole spoked wheel thing is too complicated, I've gone with monocoque 3 spoke and disc wheels, 1pc vs 100pcs :)

      He said yes 😂 (he is confident of his own branded wheels)
      He’s actually looking into designing his own hub with the exact same carbon spokes that the Winspace wheel has after seeing the hypers. (I talked to him a while after this video and he was working on it than)

    I have these wheelset and I am currently running Turbo Pro 700x26. What's the best tyre size for these wheels on riding recreational??

    • @jasperverkuijl
      @jasperverkuijl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      28mm with low tire pressure will work fine. Depending on your weight. I ride 28mm with 4,5bar and I’m 82kg. If you are lighter you can reduce the pressure even lower.

      @@jasperverkuijl thank you.. I'm 64kg and I tried to lower my tyre pressure on my ride today and it feels alot comfortable during the ride. Thank you for the response 🙏 any specific brand of tyre to buy?

      @@WhiteRiceCycling great to hear you had that positive experience! You can go way lower than you think. 👌🏻
      I ride Vittoria tires. For training or recreational I would use the rubino pro tires. (I use the corsa, that’s really for racing)

      My aluminum mavic entry level wheels are ok, for entry level wheels..
