Lead is also used in pipes and vents in combination with zinc. Lead is radiation resistant and is the heaviest, its the only thing that makes sense.

I love that zinc is more of weakness than lead. Galvanized Steel (plated with zinc) seems to be a lot more common than lead in this day and age, so I think it is cool they went that route.

I won’t lie, I actually felt bad for the lady playing Ice Skating Queen Maeve. Some of the others too, except the guy playing Jesus though.
Of all the deaths in the series, I’ve always felt bad for that guy wearing the Homelander costume that Crimson Countess kills at Voughtland in season 3. Poor guy just showed up to work.
@@Glep909 me too, sometimes we forget that most people on the show are just innocent people if some them work for Vought some still have a bit of humanity in them. Like Koy he was just a stuntman and stunt coordinator and he didn’t know that he was actually going to get killed and when you look at his face when Homelander shows up he almost looks genuinely scared of what’s going to happen to him. The only thing that bothers me about this scene is that Homelander can see through materials (except zinc). Wonder if the writers forgot about that.
Either way, I gotta love how Skater Jesus was the one responsible for more deaths that day than Homelander.
Edit: I acknowledge my lack of awareness that ventilation pipes are made of zinc. I will keep this here as a sort of memento that commenters like myself should do more research before saying as we wish. I appreciate the replies being respectful and non-antagonistic.

Not once is it ever stated in the episode that the vents are made out of zinc nor is homelander ever shown trying to use xray vision, this is the fans coping trying desperatley to make this awfully written scene make sense.
Even if this was the intention from the writers, You shouldn't have to research what material SOME ventilation pipes are made of to understand something in a story. Will the next episode require you to understand rocket science to make sense? Such awful writing.

I have a theory that some of the victims of Homelander's laser are actually still alive for a few more minutes if they did not receive the laser directly to the head or some area near the chest or thorax, they just remain agonizing in silence, processing the fact of that they were cut in half, unable to move or scream, listening to the screams of other people running for their lives, this is how they spend the last seconds of their lives...

Strangely we see the blood and stuff when he lasers people so it does not cauterise the wound stopping blood loss.
Being cut in half above the legs will be almost instant death because of the extreme blood loss.
People have survived massive injuries before but there is usually extenuating circumstances like it's a crush injury that blocked blood loss.

It seems to be a recurring theme that Homelander (and also The Deep) isn't super smart or tactical in the way he uses his powers. He tends to use them for brute force rather than strategically (like in the Flight 37 cockpit where he accidentally fried the controls because he lasered the guy instead of just, idk, punching him). He's also a little lazy and very sociopathic, so he's not really worried about the collateral damage from taking the easy route with his powers. Maybe it is a little bit of protagonist plot armor, but this is pretty consistent, character-wise, for Homelander.
I love how Homelander, pretty much every other supe, and even vaught employees never seem to be aware of Mother's Milk.
He is almost always there, but they only notice the other members of the team!
I wonder if the creators are making a joke about how black men, especially in work uniforms, are pretty much invisible, even to people with X-ray vision.

Lots of kids have had their fingers chopped off when on the ice.
It's just very rare because most ice skates are very blunt and most people with sharp ice skates are experienced.
Not to mention I think people are inherently scared of this happening so take extra care to watch out for fingers.
