I absolutely love these "Three Idiots and a _______ Challenge" videos. Entertaining, great for eating up time on Sunday mornings, and seeing older rides actually perform quite well is awesome. As always, great job TFL!
Glad you like them!
Same here, absolutely made my Sunday morning. This feels like the older TFL videos from 5 to 10 years ago. Always Love TFL. Thank you..
@@TFLtruckI like the videos but it's kinda weird doing an off-road challenge when 2 outa 3 have bald street tires
Cool video 👍 The reveal part reminded me of my favorite part of Top Gear cheap car challenges when they meet up and make fun of each other’s vehicles.
It’s like the old days just the OG crew driving cheap old trucks. Feels like hanging with old friends. Thanks for years of cool content.
That Tahoe is too clean for this.
Agreed!
I love these episodes. But one criticism, put them all on the same style tire. Tires are so critical off road. A ford raptor on highway tires would suck in the snow too. With the prices of the vehicles being so different it’s one factor that could be an even playing field.
If this were some sort of scientific test, sure... but the reality is tires are expensive and it makes little sense to put them on a vehicle that they don't plan to keep. Take it for what it is, a comparison between vehicles the way you would do it with your buddies.
@@wilmarbarrick3194me and my buddies wouldn't have $8k deficit between vehicles haha. And street tires. Only paying $6.5k for the Ford, he has plenty of tire money left over.
@wilmarbarrick3194 one phone call and almost any tire company would be more than happy to sponsor a video with them by provided new free tires for all the vehicles. They do it all the time.
Historically they typically take these trucks out with the tires that came on them.
Afterward they put tires on (often the same) and do additional testing.
@@armegeddonschildrenLet’s hope so.
These videos with older vehicles are some of the most fun
And much better put together than modern vehicles
Thank you for watching!
They really are. Much more relatable than $100k+ cars drag racing.
Regardless of the outcome, you’ve found three of the cleanest 90’s SUVs around! No rust, no dents, no “patina”, and they work. These aren’t normal FB Marketplace beaters.
For real.
There's plenty out their in good shape. They're just not 5 minutes from your house and clean ones are no longer "cheap". Plus, everything sold on fb is shit. Look elsewhere.
They bought from dealerships
I love the Landcruiser but when I think Family SUV from the late 90s early 2000s I think Tahoe, it’s just so iconic.
Still running a 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. 5.4 still runs strong with over 200k miles.
My 2000 Chevy Suburban 5.3L 4x4 has nearly 300,000 miles behind it. Runs like new and serves as a base camp. Maintenance is easy, ride is smooth with new KYB shocks and BFG TKO2’s.
That generation of GM trucks was the absolute best they have ever built hands down.
My 2000 gmc sierra 5.3 4x4 just hit 400,000 miles! Love that truck
KYB monotubes are great
318,000 on my 01 5.3 Tahoe. Got it for free from a friend, the original owner, only thing that’s been done was a transfer case rebuild at about 250k which he did himself and I resealed the motor when I got it cause I’m meticulous. Wasn’t too sure about it when he gave it to me but it’s clean and has served up 30k miles for me so far. Drive it every day.
Total fun. I have a 94 burban with 300k, and a 2001 Toy Sequoia. The Toy is super nice, but that ole burban is the most useful, as I can haul an 8' sheet of plywood in back
All of my 97-02 Round Nose Expeditions and F150s were extremely solid rigs. I owned 6 of them, all variations, 4.6 & 5.4 Triton engines, 4x4 and RWD, Eddie Bauer, even a 99 SSV Cop Version Expediton with rubber floors. Great trucks, very reliable.
We had a 97 F150 on my dad's farm. The 5.4 Triton was a beast back then. Pulled hay wagons and horses up steep hills with ease. And was great for family trips.
The 10th gen F-150 and the Expedition based on them are GOATs. One of the best trucks ever made
Same, I love my 01 with the 5.4. Rock solid at 226k miles and still drives like a new car, I work at a dealership and drives better then some of our used cars that only have 50,000 mi on them and only a couple years old. Fordpower! Even save me once when I crashed it in the snow 30 miles an hour into a guardrail only knocked off the license plate And kept driving even till this day with a small dent in the bumper
The tranny on me was an issue. Just didn't like going past 100k miles.
I would say the tahoe/suburban is better built, that’s why I only owned one. Bought it new in ‘97 and drove it until it caught on fire 19 year laters.
The 100k mile remark on Tahoe is crazy … the majority of 1st Gen tahoes or any Gmt400 usually has welll over 250k lol , just go on marketplace , there’s a lot over 300-350k miles lol .
Yes he shocked me with that one those 5.7s go for 250k easily
Yes I’ve seen ones with well over 300k miles, and I only looked for 5 minutes.
In terms of reliability, those were the golden years for GMC. Those cars last forever. Still see them everywhere.
I’m so so happy you guys are finally featuring a 1997-2002 Expedition! I always thought it was so underrated. I have one and am super happy that it has. 2wd, 4 auto, 4 high and 4 low. Factory 31’s. Rear limited slip. Decent ground clearance. Very hard to kill and can be had for half a Tahoe
Tahoe gets my vote. I love the GMt400s. One of the longest lasting and most reliable platforms ever made. My mom had a '99 Yukon very similar to this Tahoe. Great truck, very reliable. It has over 300k mi when she sold it.
I'd buy that Tahoe in a heartbeat.
Same here. We had a 1996 and a 1997 4-door Yukons, and they were wonderful, amazing machines. Rust took them, but while we had them they were solid, comfortable rides. The Tahoe they have here with the barn doors is a gem!
They usually sell their fleet. I bet they’d sell it after all their challenges
Tahoe is a pretty looking hot rod that doesn’t compare to the other 2. Still see those Chevy trucks everywhere too my dads got one that has 340k miles still runs like a champ.
My 97 Expedition was my favorite full size SUV👍
The fact that these guys are like family makes this so great! You can't fake that dynamic.
Whatever you choose, you cant go wrong, this SUVs can last forever..
It’s the banter that makes these kinds of videos. Thats why some channels nail it and others try and fall short. This is an example of that chemistry working perfectly. Love it.
Oh god don't tear up that tahoe please. Its so nice
I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I don't recall really seeing any land cruisers around. 4 runners however were everywhere as well as Tahoe and Expedition.
FFS i know this a really hard concept for most Americans to get their head around it. But holy hell there is a whole world out there that's not American.
Less than 15,000 Land Cruisers were sold in the United States in 1997. By comparison, 215,000 Expeditions and 182,000 Tahoe's/Yukon's were sold that year, so they are pretty rare.
Lmao. We are getting a pretty good picture of what Tommy’s childhood looked like during the tombstone hill portion of the episode. “Shut up and eat some baby m&ms.”
My mom owned a 2003 a 2006 and a 1999 Tahoe and the 99 was our favorite out of all.
only a yankee would say a chevy 350 would only last 100k
No, that’s literally how that Tahoe was benchmarked and designed.
He's from Colorado he's not a Yankee Colorado wasn't in The civil war genius. And furthermore we're all Americans so cut the stupid remarks
@@montanan1997 someone is butthurt
Got 300,000 + on mine the 5.7 they are bulletproof 100,000 miles is nothing
Mine had 248,000 on the dash and original engine.
give the editor a raise. i felt a part of the conversation. realllly well done
Roman doesnt do raises lol... why do you think Branden left their crew after his initial contract expired? He is extremely cheap when it comes to salaries, hence why most of the employees are kids
I love my 1992 Suburban. It's great off road. Has great visibility. The engine is ultra reliable. It's comfortable. Easy to work on. I've had it for 22 years now. 26:58 but it's also only a 3/4 window...
Always love, see the Original 3 amigos. Together excellent work Gentlemen
Much appreciated!
This reminds me of the original Top Gear trio and their challenges. Great job guys. Love this format.
I know the LC is extremely reliable, but something about that generation Tahoe to me just seems so dependable and more appropriate.
Roman "tyres are everything off road" also Roman "the Land Cruiser is better off road because the others have rubbish tyres and it makes no difference" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Landcruiser would still be better with the same tyres on those 2 land barges. But like the typical American you are probably too arrogant to realize that.
TIRES**
Romans got good tires and a lift, Nathan has a lift and bad tires……….and Andres just has bad tires and no lift😳, seems fair!! 😆😆🤦🏽♂️
@@user-do9ir8lv2m English = TYRES mate !!
@@user-do9ir8lv2mTyres is the spelling used in most english speaking countries.
My family owned 4 different Suburbans as I was growing up, 1 square body and 3 GMT400’s. I have so many great memories in those vehicles and I have a K1500 pickup myself.
I just picked up a 1997 Expedition 4x4 and my only complaint is that the 2v 5.4 is much more difficult to work on than the Vortec engines!
That chevey is like mint condition
Even though these are still a dime a dozen here in the Denver Area you're right. The paint has no sun fade at all
These types of comparisons never get old. Please make more of these videos. What about “classic full body 4x4” like k5 blazer, bronco, ram charger, Jeep Cherokee chief? This would be an epic show.
If the Tahoe and Expedition had similar mods and tires to the Land Cruiser, the comparison would be more valid. As it is now, it's very hard taking this first comparison seriously or entertaining.
You gotta start giving them a lot more views if you want them to start spending >$3k on tires for every used car comparison.
@@noobasdfjkl they are sponsored by Falken.
Land cruiser came stock with those wheels, they are all in their stock condition
@@tdel8613 Being sponsored by Falken is way different than having the kind of relationship with them where they can just send 3 sets of pretty expensive tires for free.
@@noobasdfjkl They’ve done budget build comparisons before, so...
This is just comparing used vehicles in the condition they were as purchased, not what they’re actually capable of. So it feels pointless.
I took my drivers test with my parents 96 LT Suburban 4X4 with the 6.5 diesel. Was pretty big time with that rig back in the day 😂
@ 28:36 I lost it it 😂 “Ours are bigger than yours!” Nathan is a savage… 😂
I just got my OBS Tahoe late last year $2500 same trim as that red on. Everything works on it as well, paint just isn't as nice but I love it!!
That red Yahoe is sublime.
The obs 99 00 z71. Was the best looking too and a tank
Yes!
I owned a '97 Expedition XLT 4x4. Loved that it had part time 4wd. I put 31" BFG All-Terrains on it and it was awesome offroad and on the highway. Sadly someone else liked it too and stole it out of my driveway. Later, I bought an '05 Expedition. Hated the full-time 4wd. Own an '06 Tahoe 2wd today with stability control rear end. Swapping in an axle with the G80 soon.
That Tahoe looks like it is 1998 still. A pristine museum piece
In
My Tahoe is a '97 2 door 2 wheel drive. I pulled a new Tahoe out of a ditch where it bogged down after the driver backed up too far. Pretty impressive for an open diff.
I love the og gang in videos like this. I could watch all day.
They are all great vehicles... The LC is definitely the best off-roader, the Tahoe is the best family hauler, and the Expedition is somewhere in between, but come on Toyota, fix the issue with the low range engagement. Even the new Taco has this same issue. You'd think in 30+ years they'd have figured it out by now
I have seen hundreds of GMT400 vehicles that died well after 250,000 miles....I own a 94 full size 2 door Blazer, you can see it in my name, had it 24 years and it has over 230,000 miles on it and it still is working great....all original. I would also like to point out that if you are going to do these tests, you all should be equipped with the exact same tire type and tread. Great video......I may need the tissue....lol
I love that dig at Toyota: "to go into low range you need to swing a cat over your head"
1st gen Ford Expedition was the direct replacement for the Bronco. Fits 34s stock on 16s. 10 inch clearance. Steel bumpers. Standard steel skid plates. Full time four-wheel drive. It also has the best engine and transmission of the bunch. 2 valve triton and the 4 speed easily go 250k... power and reliability. Only thing it lacks is lockers.
i agree. My buddies dad had one of these and we always borrowed it when we were teenagers. That thing was a tank. We were the old school party uber haha. It helped with the ladies 🤷♂️🤣. When you're an awkward teenager growing into your body, you need all the help you can get with them LOL.
Also, the comfort of the 1st gen ex is unreal. So much leg room. So much hip room. So much headroom. Maybe the most comfy/spacious SUV ever.
💯
The starting intro and music are awesome great video and looking foward to the next episodes... tfl has become my weekend morning tv
I wanted a 80 series, just couldnt justify the cost. I ended up with a 2000 2500 suburban instead and im glad i did. Way more room, power, comfort and 1/4 the price. The break over angle isnt ideal but i can make it work for the price 🤣
Amen! Any truck you CAN afford is always better than every truck you CAN'T.
Waking up to TFL videos on Sunday morning is the best!! Loving the content!
I would like to see yall do the slip test on these rigs, I just picked up my third gmt z71 tahoe in recent years and no one done these tests back then so it would be cool to see it now 😎 👍
The Tahoe actually nailed it
Love videos like this on a Sunday morning! Looks like they were having fun
Late 90s suburban and late 80s Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s were/ and in mint condition are the GOAT IMO as a general purpose vehicle, assuming you can afford to feed them to use them daily.
I bet all 3 of those have cruise control too.
Probably my favourite of all your features. Well, Tommy and Kase are giving them a good run in the ‘old car and Jeep’ series.
I imagine the first thing you’ll do is equalize the tire situ.
Should be fun
I really enjoy the 3 of you on these adventures! Fun!
Chevy Tahoe😊 for me i had good Memories with my parents and the 90s Cross country road trips.. tahoe is good suv was really good to us
I would take Tahoe too! ❤
My Dad is 81, and drives a 1999 Tahoe. 5.3, 2 wheel drive with almost 300K.
Every spring he drives it from Central Florida to Central Ohio pulling a 16 foot cargo trailer, then back to Florida in the fall, it's also his daily driver. His came with 3 row seating, it drives a rides fantastic.
I’ve never owned a Land Cruiser so I can’t speak on those. I’ve owned an expedition and several of the gmt trucks, and assuming the tahoe/suburban would be the same. Looks wise, I loved the expedition and it got me to a lot great camping spots far beyond the pavement. Mechanically, in my opinion, the gmt platform is just as capable but way cheaper and easier to work on.
Great show guys. Enjoyed the banter.
I don't know of a single Tahoe that ever died before 200k miles let alone 100k
My favorite videos you guys do!! Love them!
Those old gmt400s are awesome trucks.
That's one fine GMT400!
Tahoe is my favorite
Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷! Love these episodes!
TFL captures the magic of Top Gear and The Grand Tour with these series. We all get to have a laugh with real world cars. bravo men.
The Land Cruiser is amazing and easily the best off road regardless of tires but the Suburban nameplate is farrrr more well known in the United States overall. I know this is a Tahoe but just saying. As far as an iconic people mover, it’s the burban hands down
Great to see you guys having fun.
I loved double row front lights on Tahoe. It was so special with those back then
I think we were all scared that Andre would tear up that Tahoe lol that thing is mint 👌
Love the videos like these! Keep up the great content!
This is awesome!!! Love this type of content.
At this point we all know that these older GM V8 engines are built to go well over 100k. I've had more than, one so believe I know.
My 05 Suburban has almost 360k miles. My 07 Yukon has 230k miles. My 96 Silverado has a crate engine and I don’t know the miles but she just runs.
Most of the 1st gen Expeditions would do well over 100k miles. Mine had 290k when I traded it. Ran just fine when I traded. The PRNDL bushings was really the only thing I had to change multiple times. It was a 97' XLT model with 4WDAuto. 5.4L 2v engine.
Andrey needs some Bull horns on that Chevy..like the ones from the cheap truck series.
I had a 1999 stock Tahoe and that thing was extremely capable and underrated!
Those old 350 vortec engines were pretty fuel efficient, I’m not sure it’ll win but I think it’s the one to beat if your going to win in the Denver 100
I absolutely love these style of videos! Brings me back to the old British top gear specials.
That ending with the MPG loop teaser... "Ice caps WILL be melted!" hahahahaha
Love this series!! You need to put some good falkens on the Tahoe and expedition, then do the off road comparison again, cause the tires make all the difference as you know. Great video guys!!
Love these videos!
I LOVE these kind of series
Thank you y’all for doing this series! I’ve been waiting for y’all to do one with an older expedition! Maybe one day we will get a series with the old body style sequoia too! 😉
I so love the camaraderie!
I loved my 1999 Ford Expedition! Mine was the XLT with the 5.4L V8 and 4r100 transmission. My first vehicle in high school in 2014. Grew up in Moab and it was great for running the trails there! Still have it, just rebuilding the motor at 220,000 miles because valves were not seating properly anymore and oil rings and piston rings went out.
Hell yeah baby, more of Go big please!
I'd personally buy the Tahoe. Those old GMs were bulletproof especially if you took care of them. And parts were/are CHEAP!!!
Best video of the year, love the series :)
I remember going off roading in a 94 grand Cherokee with a 5.2 v8 and a 2 inch lift as a kid. That thing was unstoppable
Thanks fellas this was very entertaining
When a gallon of gas was a $1 and we all thought that was super expensive
😮💨 those were the days
No one in the 90’s thought a dollar a gallon was expensive 😂 maybe in the late 70’s or early 80’s
These are the best episodes where the 3 boys are competing and dogging on each other. Just classic. Keep it coming guys!!!😂
Papa Roman getting frustrated with the kids 🤣😂🤣
I absolutely loved this episode its episodes like this is why i subscribed😂😂
These episodes are the best!!
So what I've learned by watching TFL all these years. Roman does like being the parent to all these guys. Also even when he's wrong, somehow he always acts like he's right. 😂
4.3 vortec with regular synthetic oil changes can't be beat
