    A few years ago I lost about 40 lbs. doing intermittent fasting. Except it was called being poor and being in college.

    Omg the comment section is so ignorant. Intermittent fasting is in no way an eating disorder. It has so many benefits for the body and it doesn't have to be as painful as they made it seem at the start. You can customise the fast period to suit your timetable. For example, stop eating at 5pm and start eating at 9am the next day which won't make you feel super hungry and even if you waited until 1pm to start eating the next day you shouldn't be starving because you're still eating the same amount of food as you would if you weren't fasting but just in a specific time period.

      Yes but some of us have jobs that don't catee to this lifestyle. I don't get a break til 1pm at work and theres no way I can wait that long to eat.

      You don't have to. What Candace and Michelle fail to mention in this diet, is that you can eat in the morning and start your fast around dinner time, You can choose your fasting window. Just don't eat beyond 8 hours.

    • @viamendes1621
      @viamendes1621 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How much food should you eat in the 8hrs though?

      Navila Mendes you can eat until you’re full or eat enough to last you for the whole day(for me it’s the equivalent of two meals) or you can google how many macros you need in particular for your weight and size.

    For the 16/8 it doesn't matter way time you choose to eat. You could have your eating window for 9am to 5pm and fast for the rest of the night. It's really up to you to decide what eating window you want.

      Yeah, I do 16/8 and I eat between 10 and 6. It's really not that big of a deal and feels normal. I eat breakfast slightly later and dinner slightly earlier than I normally would. In the morning I'm not even hungry for a few hours.

    • @aijacha
      @aijacha 7 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Actually, NO! You need to fast when you wake up, not before sleeping... That's how it works not otherwise. That's because of growth hormons... You sleep, which realese growth hormons... You wake up, they still works... When you start eat, boom, they slow down. If you do it upside-down, your body will eat your muscles, not your fat. And it will be a lot harder. Read about IF and then write some comments.
      I have nightride with bicycle every friday... I started IF and at that first friday I done same as every day, last meal 9pm and that's all... But... It was wrong... I was so starved and tired... Because that ride usually is till 2am...
      Next time I try eat later, last meal about 23pm... So next day I eat about 3pm... And everything was OK.

    People are so over dramatic about intermittent fasting.
    You basically eat all of your calories in a certain amount of time. It's excellent for losing weight because it will throw you in ketosis while you sleep.
    It's nothing like starving yourself. There's so many studies about how this is a good and completely safe way to eat. I eat from 11-7, and I'm eating through that entire period.
    Do you eat while you sleep? Probably not. When you're asleep, you're fasting. This is the same thing.

      I've been doing IF for 3 days now and I think it's great. I find that I have so much more energy now when I break the fast. After the first two days my cravings for certain foods have gone down and I've been sleeping better. I think the trick for me to not feel hungry during the fast is to drink plenty of water. I'm trying to drink a gallon a day.

    So just something I learned from fasting (I'm muslim so we also do a similar amount of time for fasting)
    I used to immediately binge whenever I could eat, which is culturally normal for many households during Ramadan. But what tends to occur for many Muslims is they actually /gain/ weight during Ramadan, due to an increased intake of calories for supposed energy AND an amount of lethargy during the day that causes them not to do physical activities.
    So what I would do now is have a small something to eat after I break my fast. maybe a granola bar, a piece of fruit, or maybe something to drink. Point is something that isn't filling. Get back to doing something you're interested in for like thirty minutes, and then have a full meal. you'll find that when you're not starving you eat slower and get full more quickly instead of binge in a way that'll leave you in a food coma. I then tend to have a small little snack intermittently though my non-fasting time, and I find that I still have a lot of energy during the day and never feel super stuffed, just satisfied.

      Hussiens I can never wait that long after breaking fast

    • @Hussiens
      @Hussiens 7 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I didn't think I could, but I had a job where I didn't have my break around the time I broke my fast, so I would just quickly have a glass of water and a literal bite of something, and then get straight back to work. When my shift was over, I realized I wasn't dying to eat, just moderately hungry.

    I practice this type of eating (11am-7pm is my eating period) and it's the best thing I've ever done for my body! I usually work out in the morning so I don't get distracted or tempted to eat, and now my body doesn't feel hungry until that time. It's also made me much more aware of my meals, and I put more effort into planning them, since I feel I have to make the most of the little time I DO have to eat. It may sound weird but planning when to eat makes you a lot more conscious of it. Stick with whole foods and you're good to go :) Recommended eating times if you start at 11: 11am (breakfast), 2pm (lunch), 4pm (snack), 6-6:30pm (dinner), then have fruit or tea, then nothing until bedtime.

      AllForFunTV I was 164 in May. And I weighed myself today and am 139. So lbs. still creep off.
      I feel mild hunger at night mostly. When I'm most idle or if I adjust eating to suit an event- for example I went to a kids bday party yesterday so ate 12:30 to 4:30 instead of the typical 2-6 range. Last night my hunger was getting a little strong but I'll drink water, take vitamins, and get over it :p Honestly thinking how I'm privileged enough to eat whenever I want when many can't helps me get over random hunger. But in general I have adjusted!! :)
      I still do I.F. but since it's been successful I have had more "normal" eating habit days where I'm not as on it. In general I love the eating pattern though and don't know when I will return to the typical 3 meals a day spaced out.
      I eat the proper amount of calories and feel satisfied during my 2 meals a day so for now no rush to stop since like Candace says in the vid it's so nice to wake up not bloated and feeling just really...healthy!

    There was this one time when I was a kid where we were going on a road trip and my father gave us each a bag full of marshmallows maybe 30ish big ones in each bag so I ate 5 then I was full then on the way my dad saw a crowd of homeless and stopped to give them some money, I saw what I thought was a garbage can next to them so I threw the rest of my marshmallows in there, then one of the men took it out smiled and said thank you, I just said no problem but I was kind of confused, when I looked back at the garbage can I realized it was full of clothes
    That’s when I realized that while we’re whining about not having any cloths when we have a full walk in closet there are some people that have a plastic garbage can as their closet
    While we throw away food there are people starving
    Just always be thankful for what you have because some people see your tiny house as a mansion

    I think it is cool you guys did that, I bet if you did this for an entire month you wouldn't even feel hungry when you eat. When it is Ramadan, a lot of people sleep during the short eating window so we have no chance of eating throughout the rest of our regular work days and by the end of the month it becomes so natural that once it is over we have to constantly remind ourselves for the next few days that we can eat

    Why would you pick a time frame that doesn't work with your lifestyle?? If you workout in the morning plan your 8 hours to start after your workout? A fastest workout has already been shown to help burn fat, but eating after a workout is important. We all know this by now. The point of IF is to pick an 8 hour window that works with your lifestyle. If you pick a random time because 12-8 sounds good without taking into account your workout happens and work schedule you're gonna have a bad time.

I did last year and got off track after going on a cruise and could tell a huge difference. I felt tired, sluggish, joints ached, gained weight. Got back on IF and the weight came off, energy went up, pain went away. It may not work for everyone because we're all different but it works great for me.

    You'll also get used it. There are different ways to fast. I only do the 16:8 and OMAD. I only eat at 4PM and stop when I feel full but can't pass the 8hr timing; basically I only eat one meal during in within that 8hr window. Usually I used to be a person who would still eat when I'm full and binge eat but it's not that hard to control it once you really put your mind into doing something. When I'm training, I drink lots of water time to time which helps the hunger in the remaining time before I could eat. It helps digest too. Don't think about eating when you're actually not hungry.

      Actually you can have breakfast! You choose which hours you are eating. It's all about balancing your life and eating because most people eat very frequently and snack a ton through the day but with intermittent fasting it helps you learn to eat only when you're hungry and not when you're bored. It also helps with losing weight because with your eating window being smaller, you are more likely to be in a calorie deficit (=

LOL Before I started IF I thought it was super weird at first, but now it's no big deal. The biggest hurdle most people face is the "hunger" but it's really not that terrible. Also, hunger during IF is NOT true hunger, it comes in waves and will disappear most of the time.

    For all clarity for someone wanting to try this, Intermittent fasting isn't a diet to rush into, what you do instead is to slowly decrease your windows of eating so eg 9am-10pm to 10am-10pm and from there lower the time by an hour or 30 mins depending on how your body is processing it. also during ramadan you starve during the day lol but with intermittent fasting the hours you're asleep and not eating count as fasting. so the only common thing between ramadan and IF is actual fasting lol

    I intermittent fast everyday except the weekends sometimes when I'm with my friends. It's so much easier for me to not think about always cooking meals and I seem to get more nutrients this way.

    If you love breakfast, you can do the same 16/8 split, with the same benefits but just having dinner super early. That's what I do, I have breakfast when I wake up and have dinner a lot earlier, and I love it.

    "I found I was eating the same amount of calories but in a shorter time period."
    .....yes. yes, that is the point of intermittent fasting. Let's get something straight, IF is not a restriction, it is simply a different eating pattern. also STOP BEING SO DRAMATIC, you didn't get to eat for a few hours after getting up omfg I've been doing this for months it's really not a big deal.

    I do 20:4 fasting! I eat only from 3-7, and plan on doing this for the rest of my life. I’ve been doing it for 2 weeks so far and an excited to see results!

    I've been doing IF for 3 months and it's helped me lose 15lbs at a healthy rate without feeling like I'm starving. You can get away with cheating on this diet pretty regularly without halting your progress as long as you eat clean and healthy the majority of your days. Also one big meal when you've been fasting for 16 hours gives you something to look forward to everyday.

      I know fasting isn't unhealthy. But eating only once every day is unhealthy. That's not fasting, that's an eating disorder.
      Your body needs fuel, and only once every 24 hours every single day is definitely unhealthy. That's something that you can do once or twice a week, but definitely not more.

    • @peppermintpatty180
      @peppermintpatty180 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreakieFan most people on OMAD only have a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day. Intermittent fasting legit helps in so many ways. I'd agree with you if there was hard study done on damage done by intermittent fasting but there just isn't. If the person fasting is purposely under eating till the point of anorexia then yeah I can see how that for sure is an eating disorder but the average Joe usually hops into IF for health benefits more than just huge weight loss

      Eating one single time every 24 hours like the OP says he does is NOT intermittent fasting..
