I have fasted since I was a teenager this was not a strict regime as it now it just happened. I still fast between 12 and 16 hours daily, I must admit that I have noticed lately a significant change at around the 12 hour mark, I am more alert and certainly feel better for it.
I am now 75 and still working, I do not drink, smoke or have any underlying medical issues and I have all my teeth (Just thought I would mention that), I don't want to live longer I just want to be healthy and stay self reliant.

I LOVE fasting......it has changed my relationship w/ food, decreased my desire to overeat, and so many other benefits. I feel so much more in control of my hunger, feel much less bloated, and deink a lot more water. It is so worth it to 24 hour fast. Hopefully this will answer some questions:
I started 16/8 fasting at the beginning of 2020 (right before the pandemic hit). I have lost 100lbs since (6'3" 350 lbs down to 250 lbs) and have maintained a much healthier weight since.
Here's what I can share from my personal experience.
1 - I chose my eating window to be 11AM to 7PM with the thought that the easiest meal to do without is breakfast.
2 - when eating I still tried to keep my overall calories for the day below 2000. (being 6'3" technically my daily calories should be a little higher as well)
3 - The first two months are tough - my body was trained to want food when I woke up - so the "hunger cravings" sucked - so just drink water. In my case I drank black coffee (some argue adding cream breaks the fast, some say it doesn't - I err on the side of caution)
4 - Your body WILL adapt, and soon it just becomes second nature
5 - calorieless drinks are ok - I stick to water, black coffee, and unsweetened iced tea - I did drink diet coke for the first year as well, but cut that out in 2021
6 - I added working out at the gym in 2022 to help build a little muscle mass back. I didnt lose a lot, but I did notice it - I was never overly strong to begin with, but now in 2023 I have noticed a big difference. I work out about 930pm to 11pm 3 times a week - many tout working out in the fasting late hours but that would mean 9am and work prevents that.
Lastly - make it your lifestyle - once you start, commit yourself to always eating like this - it WILL change your life. I no longer have high blood pressure, I have a LOT more energy, and I have more self confidence.
Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT!!

Tried many other things: diet, exercise, over the counter meds, prescription meds. Nothing worked, so I started reading, alot, over several years. I've been fasting 18-6 every day for several years. My commitment for 2023 is to work towards 24 hours or OMAD with an occasional 36 hour fast mixed in. I'll give a little wisdom on the subject of fasting.
    1. Don't confuse boredom with hunger. If you think you are hungry, do something for a few minutes and it will be gone.
    2. If you are married or living with someone it is best that your partner, be on the same page. It's a lot harder if they are cooking and eating all the time.
    3. Breakfast is the easiest meal to eliminate and try to exercise in the mornings.
    4. This is not hard; it doesn't cost anything. in fact, it saves you money.
    5. Good luck

Although 'a few' and 'few' are nearly identical, they carry very different emphases. 'A few' is used as a positive expression, simply indicating that the quantity in question is higher than two. The term 'few,' however, is most often used negatively to express a count that is low or lower than expected.
      Compare the following sentences:
"Few cell lines can survive for extended periods at room temperature.”
“The flask was left out of the incubator all night, but there were still a few viable cells.”

Not sure if I do something wrong or people were even heavier than me to begin with and hence I may not get results as much as some of you. I don’t like sodas and processed food much to start with so I wonder if that plays a role in it.

I reached my target weight in just 6 months and easily maintaining it with 2 good sized meals in my 6 hour eating window. The benefits to my overall health and well-being are off the charts...blood pressure, lipid profile, glucose, etc. are all in optimal ranges without any medications. I do take some high quality supplements (multi, salmon oil, ubiquinol, vit d3 & k2, magnesium, ester c) once daily, so I'm sure they're helping too. I want to start doing a 48 hour fast twice monthly to get more benefits from autophagy, but I have a hard time fasting past 18-20 hours. One thing is for sure, I will continue at least my daily fasting for the rest of my life, as the benefits are undeniable.

Like the appendix that kills us when ruptured.
Or the oesophagus and trachea linking to the same orifice, guaranteeing some people will die by choking on food.
Or ingrown wisdom teeth that cause significant damage to our mouths.
Or the anus and the genitals being close enough to cause infections.
Or the blind spot in our eyes.
Or the recurrent laryngeal nerve which runs from the brain to the larynx, but stops by the heart along the way.

I like breakfast too much to give it up every day, and a longer fast once a week sounds great with the benefits described in this video. I just finished drafting a meal plan for the next week to make sure I’m eating enough. Thank you!

Started with 18:6 right away and quickly found out that its hard for me to eat dinner too because I'm so full from lunch (due to keto diet). Had to force dinner inside myself first couple of times. So I went OMAD and damn I feel so good in the morning. I've noticed if I study in the morning in a fasted state I feel like I'm galaxy brain or something. Doing lunch after this starts to feel like a punishment at this point because I become tired and sleepy so I'm definitely gonna try doing more than jsut 24h

It’s crazy how we were conditioned that multiple meals should be the norm and that, the more we eat the better. I’ve always been weirded out by this concept, because before I came to America, I was accustomed to eating OMAD but was told that wasn’t healthy and that I should eat more but it wasn’t a choice that I was eating less, in fact I was full and wasn’t craving any more than just one meal. So, overtime, due to pressure especially by family, I’ve conditioned my body to eat three meals a day which is more than what I would eat back then, to the point that I’ve gained unhealthy weight followed by eating disorders and I really wished someone was there to guide me, to let me know that my body was fine and my eating habits weren’t insufficient.

Everyone who talks about prolonged fasting says it’s easy from day 4. But this video suggest it’s not worth it to go longer in terms of optimal fat burning and autophagy, i don’t know if they are just covering themselves though and don’t want to say it’s ok to fast longer etc. How tough are the first 72 hours for you? What’s the longest fast you’ve done?

I have fasted multiple times for up to 30 days. It is true that the first 3-4 days are always the toughest to get through. Not as hard if one adopts a proper lifestyle. After the 3-4 day mark, it’s easy riding from there on

Fasting changed my life. I was overweight and felt horrible. My blood pressure and heart rate were sky-high, I fast like this, maybe it helps someone!
Monday - OMAD (23 hours fast) Eat one awesome dinner, healthy protein, and vegetables (no overeating)
Tuesday to Friday - 16:8 (Usually, I eat some eggs and avacado or snack on peanuts during the day, then a healthy protein for dinner)
Saturday - Cheat Day (Eat anything I want without going overboard) Like chips during the evening or even some candy / junk food dinner.
    Sunday - 16:8
    Repeat.
After simply doing this and I don't even exercise a lot, I am now extremely fit. My blood pressure last reading was 104/65 , and my resting heart rate is now at 60-75 (was 100+). Life changing, I even came off my anti-depressants. Maybe this comment motivated one person to try fasting, and I hope you do :) Only got one body! Have a nice day

    fasting is amazing.
you feel better and you save a lot of money on food lol
a year ago i was eating 3x every day + snacks in between
now i eat once or twice a day and have lost so much weight
you need to get used to it. first reduce the sugar then cut it off completely until you feel comfortable without sugar (usually takes a week or two). then slowly from 3 meals to 2 (extend the time in between) and when you feel good with 2 you can try with 1 or 1 1/2. thats what my stage is right now.
apparently you can also go 48-72 hours without food but i ll see soon enough if its possible or not, i usually feel a little bit weak after 20h+
