I have the Cobra Forged Tec X with ns pro 950 stiff and Epic Forged 19 with Steelfiber 110. They're close. It isn't apples to apples but I would recommend the Cobras to anyone. When you look at loft and offset between the forged tec x and forged tec, they are almost the same. More tungsten and a little bigger profile made me choose the X. The Callaway Epic Forged are the best hollow bodied irons IMO. They are twice the price tho. Nice, honest review!
I had a fitting on Tuesday and it came down to these two club heads actually. Both felt absolutely great, but the p790 had an insanely close dispersion circle after a considerable amount of testing. Can’t wait for them to come in
I had literally the exact same experience, forged tec went slightly longer but the 790s shots were all clustered within 5-10 yards of each other it was actually insane.
Cobra beats them on feel by a wide margin. No difference in dispersion. Dispersion issues can always be traced to operator error. The p790 is very clicky.
awesome video. I was at a PGA superstore a month ago and decided to test the Cobra Forged Tech. I was soooo surprised with the sound and feel. it does remind me of a mizuno feel. I currently game the 2019 P790's. Looks like i maybe getting a set of Cobra's.
hello, I switched to fiting last week and of course I loved these 2 clubs straight away, I was however just a little longer with the taylor made but the distance differences were more important so I opted for the cobra series which I am looking forward to
Yeah they are long! But to be expected really as they are strong in loft, sub 30* 7 iron as standard with the hollow body design. They are certainly made for distance! But great irons for the right person 👌
I may possibly do at some point Jack, but being honest I've done tests previously between the P790 and the 225 and they are literally almost identical, like nothing in it mate.
I think I'm gonna go with the Cobra Forged Tec X Irons (2022) I like the feel of them and also there giving me more distance im playing off 5.3HC but you like what you like I like the feel better than the p790s
Generally speaking I would just fit someone into the clubs that are the best for them without too much tinkering as there are so many options nowadays you can do that most of the time but it would also depend on the person. If someone really wanted the forged tecs but the launch and spin was a little on the low side then yes I would look to tweak the loft but in a normal fitting if we were hitting the forged tec and the numbers weren't right just go to a different head
@@epgolfstudios Thanks for the reply. I had been looking at the Ping i525 and the bounce on the PW is 5 degrees more then the Cobra Forged Tec. I do not not deloft the club at impact. So I was concerned I would notice that difference. The P790 is only 3 degrees more than the cobra. Everyone keeps saying the bounce doesn’t matter. But if that is the case why are manufacturers different?
@@clientbuilding8737 bounce does matter but it is very dependant on delivery and most clubs such as 7i won't have enough of a difference in bounce for most players to notice much difference. Well manufacturers will have different bounces for the same reason they have different lengths and different lie angles as standard. Each has a different belief as to what is optimal for a mass market. The bounce of the pings may well change through models but they will just be doing what they think is best for the specific market that iron is designed for.
I game the Z785 irons but do have a single P790 7i for practice (it was $50AUD new). I just tried a friends Cobra forged Tec and was impressed. As silly as it sounds though, Im not a Cobra man and as for Bryson...lets say Im not a fan haha
Hey MidLifeBiker, yeah the 785 are great irons, though I'm sure you will probably agree the 790 and the forged tecs will definitely give you a little more pop 😂 but yes the forged tecs really do feel impressively good, they have done a great job with them. And yeah Bryson certainly isn't for everyone's taste 😂 I don't mind him though, bit of a mad scientist like me and loves a tinker 😂 think it's just his 9 hour rounds that annoy a lot of people lol
Bryson, captain of slow play and goes to LIV "dont blink" golf lol I could game either P790s or forged tec but happy with the Srixons.. Cheers from Oz..
Thanks Maarten, unfortunately we don't stock or have any Wilson products and it's unlikely I'll be opening an account with them anytime soon. If someone would like to send me one then possibly I could yes, but at the moment I can't mate
Thanks mate, I appreciate your quick reply. I still play the TaylorMade R9 TP, the KBS tour stiff shaft,, with 1 degree upright lie angle; for which I got fitted in 2010. And am now in the market for an iron with a little more distance. (The R9 7 iron has 34 degrees of loft) I’m looking into the D9 forged, P770 and these two.
@@MaartenAnna No worries mate, yeah that's definitely time to get re-fit! And that's exactly what you need to do mate, being completely honest in terms of performance (launch and spin) the number one thing is loft, so you will the 770 is in a different category to the rest that you mentioned (as it has more loft) therefore it will launch and spin higher. But it's unlikely the performance between the other 3 will be much in it. Again it's just making sure that it gives you the right numbers that you need, then obviously just making sure you get the shaft and lie angle right 👍
No the X is crazy strong lofted! The standard Forged Tec is still stinger then the P790 but it's much closer than the X. X is great for the player that adds dynamic loft at impact and still wants something that looks and feels great.
dude, you have an amazing swing! i wish you did more education and training videos. would love to learn a few things from you besides equipment!! cheers
Thanks Thom! In my latest video we do discuss some ideas around generating speed. If there's anything more specific you would like to know then let me know 👍
@@epgolfstudios Yes, thank you, I have suggestions!! 😀1. Help us on how to achieve better rotation/pivot thru impact and 2. How to eliminate early extension. Thanks bro, you're a champ!
Enjoying the video. I enjoy it was more when you’re exposing as well as showing the data. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Robert 👍 not 100% sure I fully understand what you are saying 😂😂 but thanks for the positive feedback it's much appreciated 🤜🤛

More likely the shaft than the head for that kind of dispersion
Cobra beats them on feel by a wide margin. No difference in dispersion. Dispersion issues can always be traced to operator error. The p790 is very clicky.
I have the forged tecs and they're amazing clubs I absolutely love them
Absolutely Jonathan, amazing club's 👍👍
thanks good head to head, would love to add the new Wilson D9 Forged into the mix
It's certainly a brand we will look at in the future Mark for sure, but not one we currently stock unfortunately
Love these types of reviews thank you!
No worries at all Zarlodious, thanks for the positive comment 👍
Great review! Very fair assessments. Appreciate that.
Thanks Eric 👍

Yes they do sound and feel amazing! Cobra making waves 🌊🌊
Forged tec are in my bag. Love them. Also tried the 790 but cobra had me. Something about the click off the face
Class review... Vids have been excellent
Thanks Patrick, appreciate that mate 👍
Great review, it seems like you can't go wrong with either set of irons.
Thanks Mike! Yeah you really can't, they are both amazing irons.

Great video
Just ordered forged tec one length with $taper125 . Reduced lofts by 1 degree as they went farrrrrrr
Yeah they are long! But to be expected really as they are strong in loft, sub 30* 7 iron as standard with the hollow body design. They are certainly made for distance! But great irons for the right person 👌
Could you please do this test with the cobras and Mizuno 225

@@epgolfstudios ok thanks for the information
I’m playing the forged tecs. Great clubs. Don’t be afraid to hit the mizuno pro 223. Surprisingly forgiving and looks real nice behind ball
@@suprand I will try them out but honestly I’m not a fan of how they look

What is the bounce on the P 790? Is is higher and maybe why you were hitting them thin?
I don't know the actual bounce difference between these 2 clubs if I'm honest but it certainly won't be enough to make a big difference to strike.
