Nice updated comparison. I’ve got a set of Pro 225’s and love them. I did have the 7 and 8 iron’s bent 1 degree weak to help with a touch more launch and spin and maintain consistent gaps (4 degrees) in the mid-short irons. I think having the correct shaft will have some influence in how a golfer will dynamically deliver the club. Additionally, a ball fitting will probably help with getting the proper launch conditions. For example, a Pro V1x would give a bit more launch and spin vs the standard Pro V1.

As always Srixon always hits the sweet spot. Distance/Dispersion/Spin/Feel/Look....Still blows my mind that they don't get more love than they do. Forged Tec from Cobra living up to the hype here too. I've never hit them but hear nothing but love for them from a couple friends that play em.

I tried almost everything in this category earlier this year. I came down to Mizuno Pro 225, Cobra Forged Tec, and the Wilson D9 Forged. I chose the Wilson. As soft or softer than the Mizuno, as long as the Cobra, and the best dispersion for me. They feel great. I'm 72 and have the Recoil 460 ESX 460 R shaft which works great. Rogue just does really well is just about every category. It is loud but that never enters my selection for any club (my hearing sucks). I hit a crap ton of balls at my club and have key to the equipment room. I find the 790 by far the most erratic. Love betting guys on the course when I see the 790. Cheers.

Really useful, along with other serious well done test videos of some of the same clubs. I am 81 and it is simply time for me to kick my ego in the butt and drop the weak lofted solid forged muscle back irons I have been playing for the past 25 years. With my swing speed now, the best I can do with a 7 iron and Pro V1X (2015 version) with a stiff shaft is ball speed 96, carry 131, launch angle 21.8, back spin 4785. That's tops. Most are shorter. My goal is to get a 140 yard or better carry. I could never stand game improvement irons when looking down on one you felt like you were playing a hot dog bun. I also felt that 7 irons with lofts as low as 26 degrees were a deceptive joke. But tests like yours show makers have really improved both the looks and technology of irons and enable one to get distance plus height, spin and steep descent angles even with strong lofts while looking down on heads that are appealing. Am being fitted this week, we shall see.

I really trust these guys and welcome their videos. If I were to get one of these sets, it would be either Mizuno 225s or the one that gets the least love, Sryxon ZX5s. Great comparison Guys, but this category of Irons really troubles me. I have tested various Irons in the "Players distance Irons" but I don't get enough height/spin to stop the ball on Greens, my landing angle is far too shallow.

I feel there is a huge gap in the market between Game Improvement Irons and Players Distance Irons. Many players between age 30-50 don’t are looking for clubs that have forgiveness and feel without looking like game improvement shovels. Yet the choices are mostly either shovels or players distance irons with smaller heads. I don’t see many nice looking irons geared towards forgiveness AND feel. I like your videos. These can be purchased at $450 new ($900 originally), you can get them for less than all of these models used. I decided to give them a go and they have been fantastic. I really enjoy watching you guys but i just wish you would spend a little less time bashing on these kind of irons for not being as muted, or as soft as mb's because we all know they arent blades. If we were all good enough to hit blades im sure we would but not everyone is blessed with the talent or time to ever get good enough for them. If you would spend more time comparing them to each other or atleast in the same class of club it would be great. I only say this because comparing any of these clubs to mb's is always going to make it sound like these irons arent as good but for most of us they are.

I’ve seen 20 handicaps that should be using blades Because they strike their irons so pure but can’t get off the Tee-box straight and can’t get off the green without a three putt. Therefore “mid handicap” means absolutely jack crap when suppressing irons. Why is this never discussed?

    • @2ndswing
