Don’t sell yourself short! You actually have the clubhead speed of the “average” mid to high handicap male golfer, or very close to it. Based on the ball speeds of 99 to 102 MPH that you were getting, I reckon that your clubhead speed with those two irons was about 72-74 MPH. As a Professional Clubfitter, who has been doing this for more than 30 years, as well as a mid-handicap senior golfer who generates more clubhead speed than the average senior golfer, I can tell you that I see far more amateur golfers who get between 70-77 MPH with their irons than those who get 85 MPH with those irons. At 79-82 MPH with my middle irons, I only get about 10-12 MPH more ball speed and maybe 12-15 more yards of carry than the launch monitor was showing for you.
Thank you for doing this review and comparison. I am actually thinking about getting a set of the 2022 Cobra Forged Tec X irons with the 75 gram R-flex KBS tour graphite iron shafts now that these clubs are being offered at discount prices. After 35 years of hitting clubs with stiff or stiff-plus shafts, I am gradually transitioning to all R-flex shafts.

Got fitted for the tecs last week. Combined with the correct shaft for my swing they added 15 yards and tightened dispersion hugely.
Can't wait for them to arrive.

I tried everything and narrowed it to: Mizuno Pro 225, Cobra Forged Tec (2022 and 2021), and Wilson D9 Forged. I felt the Wilson was as soft as the Mizuno, as long as either of the Cobra versions and better dispersion pattern. I would have chosen Cobra Forged Tec (2021 version) in 2nd place.

I just sold a set of Jpx 919s after two rounds (brand new on Clubhouse Golf for £500) I found the lofts brutal and everything felt "thin" - going for a Forged Tec fitting soon.

Wilson Staff CB with Dynamic Gold shaft R300 steel shafts. I am staying with a heavy shaft and true retro lofts for control and punch shots/partial shots.

Hi Sophie! Nice review! I just tried out the 225/223's everything you would expect in sound and feel. Will try the rest ..525's, D9 forged, 790's, 770's, and these Cobras. Think sound and feel wins though! Thanks again!

I tried quite a few of the ones you are considering and found that the i525s were the best of the lot. I don’t think any manufacturer makes long irons (4-6) that are easier to launch. My 6 iron swing speed is around 85mph and I really struggled launching the Cobra and Taylormade long irons.
After doing a bit of research I found that the pings did well because their long irons have a very high amount of bounce which is great for those long irons. However as you move into the 9 iron and Pitching Wedge I think there is too much bounce and it’s hard to flight them down. They spin too much and along with the high launch they are shorter than other manufacturers clubs with same lofts.
To fix this I took the 9 iron and PW to my local golf shop and strengthened the lofts by 2 degrees which also removed 2 degrees of bounce. Now I have no distance gap issues.
Granted we each have a unique strike and delivery so you may find one of the other sets perform well for you (not to mention the shaft you choose) just sharing my experience.
I think the loft cranking has reached its limit with 26-27 degree 7 irons. You really need a lot of speed to get that club to be playable or have such a poor strike where you deliver loads of loft and spin that you need a 26 degree 7 iron. Golfers would benefit from more loft which is why Ping offers the Retro loft and Mizuno are now releasing the 923 Hot Metal High Launch. Cheers and good luck!!

@@legend9018 I found your comment interesting. I am currently looking for new irons and trying out the same clubs mentioned. How far do you hit your 7i? I carry about 145. I have narrowed it down to i525 or cobra forged Tec. Seemed to get the best distance and consistency out of these.
I’m like Sophie, I don’t compress the ball a lot. I also play on hard ground most of the year. So I am concerned about the high bounce on the i525’s. My miss tends to be thin shots.
I have thought about blending clubs. Ie Cobra Tec 7 - GW and 5-6 Tec X 1 degree weaker. Did you experiment with blending? Did you look at the i59 for your scoring irons?
      I appreciate your feedback. Ric

@@clientbuilding8737 thanks for your reply. I only tried the forged Tec x and not the forged tec irons so my experience with them was as I said. Even with the kbs tour lite shafts I still struggled with launch on the forged Tec X irons. I got a little better launch by switching to a ball with more spin but that cost me a bit with my driver.
I carry my 7 iron about 155 yards. If possible i would see if you could demo both irons (off grass preferably, hitting off mats hides a lot of flaws and affects spin as well). I think the extra bounce of the i525s will help even on tight lies allowing you to make a more aggressive swing. I would recommend the nippon 950gh shaft or even possibly the 850 as they are light and have a very soft tip section that will help with launch.
The only drawback to the i525s high bounce is that I find it’s a bit too high in the 9 iron and Pitching wedge. I had to strengthen those lofts (power spec in those may be an option) to lower the bounce a bit. Let me know if you have any other questions

Love these. I play a mixed bag. Wilson Staff C200 bought new on offer for £215 must have been 5 years ago now. 3-PW however I have never hit the 3, and leave the 4, 5 and 6 at home! Then I have a 7 iron Cobra RAD which is basically a 6 iron then a 5 iron Cobra SZ one length. Really would love a full set of clubs I like

really don’t want a 7 iron with a stronger loft than 30*. i’d go forged tec and get the lofts weakened a little. good looking irons. also standard lengths are quarter inch longer than most all other clubs which works for me bc i get mine a quarter longer than stock.

Sophie, Thanks for all of your reviews. You are my favorite at rating equipment. I play the Callaway Epic Forged irons and looking to change to an easier to hit club. I can hit anything but want to try an easier to hit club. If it matters, I am 66 with a 4 handicap. I am leaning towards the Titleist T300's. I can hit the T200's fine but liking the T300's. Have you hit and rated the T300's? Thanks, Andy.

These lofts are getting ridiculous. You need a good amount of speed to get a 27 degree 7 iron to be playable out on the course or have such a poor strike where you deliver loads of dynamic loft and spin you actually need a 27 degree 7 iron. This is why Ping offers retro spec lofts and Mizuno are releasing the 923 Hot Metal High Launch.

@legend9018 yeah true but you didn't single out forged tec x in your comment. Forged tec x will be a flop I think with those lofts being too strong so I do agree with you on the forged tec x.
