Had p790s for about 7 months. I liked them but then I found Wilson D9 forged irons! Love myD9 forged irons. Buttery soft and consistent.

ive been playing the forge tec for about 3 months now and love them. i tested both and both performed great . went with cobra because hands down a much more pleasant sound and much softer feel.

I bought the cobra forged tec a few weeks ago, the feel and distance are brilliant, fantastic set of irons ! 👍🙂

I had a set of TM P790s for awhile, ended up going back to my Ben Hogan PTx irons. The P790s were good, just didn’t provide any feedback. They felt clunky in comparison. Much happier with the Hogan irons.

I got my hands on a set of Cobra Forged Tec X irons by chance with a stiff graphite shaft and I was blown away by the performance I got from them. They felt absolutely beautiful on contact so I laid that money down immediately after trying them as the new irons in my bag. They are literally the sweetest feeling clubs I’ve ever hit and for me personally, I get excellent ball flight from my swing character. So, the distance control and stopping power on demand it perfect. After having the same sort of experience with the Cobra LTDx driver once I dropped the loft down to 7.5, Cobra now dominates my bag!! Even my Cobra Agera Palm Crew putter!! BUT, I’m never giving up my Taylor Made Hi-Toe wedges. As soon as I hit those there was no need to try anything else. Too perfect for the way I hit them. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

The Cobra looks gorgeous. It looks so much better without KING written across the back too. I have no plans to change my D7's just yet but if I did... Forged Tec it would be.

I'm playing the 2019 P790 Andy, did a bit of youtube homework and picked them up new this year for around £600 for 5 /PW . Great clubs I love em.

Thanks for a great video, Andy. While I tried the Cobra's in my iron fitting earlier this year, I became a P790 guy this year and haven't looked back. [I did bend them 2 degrees weak to add loft and carry, which worked perfectly. Another reason why we all need to get fit.] Indeed, such great choices from manufacturers that I didn't even get to try Callaway or Srixon in my fitting, but at least half a dozen other brands!

Like you said, we have the best selection of irons ever, just got p790's and would not change for anything.
Look like players clubs , play like game improvement ...can't say enough

I’ve just ordered a set of cobra tec irons My plan was to get Mizuno and I nearly did but then I tried the P790 and cobras. It was a fascinating afternoon and well worth the time invested. Fingers crossed they arrive soon.

I play the P790’s and love them but, what this video showed is that Chipr and putter are worth their weight in gold - so tempted to get that putter !

  • @robbiles

I tested both, along with a number of others and P790 came out on top numbers wise so that is what I went with considering as you say Andy they look and feel similar.

Hi Andy. Another interesting video. I play the 2019 version of the P790’s (6-AW) and they make me so happy! The times when you feel a miss hit then look up and see the ball going high, straight, and just about the right distance 😃

Trying to buy new now would be a chore because there is a lot of good stuff out there now. A proper fitting would be in order but with all the choices a person can get pretty tired hitting so many golf balls.

I look at every hollow body iron on the market and ended up with Gen5 0311T which surprised me not a big fan of PXG purely came down to Feel/Sound if I had to rated the Top 5 off of Feel/Sound IMHO it would be
    1. Gen5
    2. Pro 225
    3. P790
    4. Forged Tec
    5. Rogue ST Pro

I am a 73 yo player with a 7.1 GHIN handicap playing from the forward tees. I have not found many Taylormade products that fit my game (exception is the M5 3 wood). I have owned the second generation P790 with MMT shafts but they did not impress me. I have played just about all the distance player clubs with the exception of the new Cobras. For me, Callaway products are by far the best for my game. I currently game a set of APEX DCB with an old set of Mercury shafts. These are perfect for my game but may not suit another. It is such a tight line we walk with clubs! Most everything I have is bought second hand or I refit with a set of shafts I may already own (owned the Mercury shafts for nearly 11 years before putting them in the DCBs!). I do watch your reviews as they tell me more about a game closer to mine and clubs that seem to work for that game. I just wish I could afford the Mezz 1!

Played my best golf with the P790's..regularly shooting low 70s...then I sold them thinking my game would improve with the P770's...massive mistake...playing nowhere near as good as I used to. Fantastic review as ever...well done

Have to say I love the look of the Cobra almost muscle back. Sound to me is important as well won't play a click sounding iron...great video as well

Identical! That is the point. Starting to make club comparisons useless. Agree Andy, manufacturers are doing a great job with building performance standards. Shafts much more important than heads in finding right feel and performance by player.

Loved the irons, especially the COBRA.
But I really liked how your enjoying that PING CHIPR.
I know I am. Had mine for a month now and every round ive played has been in the 70's. Amazing!!! Its shaved at least 5 strokes from my normal score. Incredible club.

I bagged the Forged X this summer and they really seems to fit my game. Feel is good and I love the not so chunky bladish look. The only negative is slightly lower workability than a true blade

these were my 2 finalist when i was fitted 3 months ago , i went with the cobra forge tec . i found the forge tec to have better feel and sound . they both look and perform great . the p790 has a more clicky sound and doesn't feel as soft as the forge tec. i would also get the occasional flyer with the 790 that would fly 10 yards farther.

I am looking forward to my Cobra Forged tec series,
I hesitated during the fitting with the Taylor made series but the cobras are more constant, regular on the distances there is less gap between the clubs

isn't the Forged tech X a match to the p790 and the standard a match to the P770 though? I play a mixed iron set PW-7 Wilson staff C200 and a 7 and 5 iron Cobra RAD. would love either the Tech X or the p790

  • @cfnaround1585

The biggest difference I know of is placement of tungsten weight. Cobra is more bottom center. P790 is out more to the toe for a different kind of stability

  • @danielr1615
    @danielr1615 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I played the P790’s for 2 years and was disappointed in the 5,6,and 7 irons. These clubs were very inconsistent in terms of distance control. Sometimes the ball would go 10 to 15 yards further. I have a 5 handicap and got tired of flying greens. The speed foam injected in to the face of the club makes these irons too inconsistent. I went back to Pings.

For me, whilst Cobra have toned it down a lot compared to some of their recent products, Cobra are still a bit guilty of excessive branding on the back of the clubs. Might be good for brand recognition in a store but looks cheap in the bag. Compare that to the simplicity of Mizuno
