- Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch. This week, Seth Macy from Nintendo Voice Chat joins the gang as they discuss the Switch 2. While no announcement has been made, the rumor mill is working overtime since the release of leaked images that are reportedly renders of the Nintendo Switch 2. Seth explains when he thinks the announcement will come (hint: soon), and what magical price point Nintendo should be aiming for.

Nintendo would be foolish to announce it right before the holiday season if they have no intention on releasing it this year.
Unless it's backwards compatible with original games.

Just switched out our last 27” 1440p IGZO for a 48” 2160p OLED… we are now an all OLED household!!!
Many of my friends dont have a 4k tv and have an RCA 1080p im one of the only one to have a 4k sony x90L or 4k in general

They’re not wrong. Many people have 4K TVs nowadays. Brands like Haier and TCL offer 4K TVs at very reasonable prices.
Nintendo actually makes games so the specs matter less imo. The library is insanely large and covers so many fan bases.
Which makes the extra power all the more exciting for performance struggles that even their first party has been having, and more ambitious games they could make.
And of course perfect for third party for a while.
Bayonetta 3 could have benefited from a significantly more powerful hardware tho

The Switch also has to be priced well enough to sell multiple in one household. That’s their bread and butter.

Here’s what switch 2 needs to dominate the market:
1. 1080p in handheld & 1440p when dock
2.GPU with the same or a bit powerful than Series S
3.Backwards compatibility
4.Atleast 8” screen
5. Atleast 4 or more exclusive games at launch
6.$600 below srp
It's crazy to me that so many people spend between $700 and $1400 on smartphones but $700 on a console makes it a luxury console.

I'm glad to see some Nintendo representation.
The Switch likely won't get a price reduction because Nintendo lost a lot of money from the joycon drift situation. For all we know PlayStation might have had a smaller situation arise that got swept under the rug before it was made public and had to price the PS5 Pro accordingly to stay on schedule and budget. I'm guessing a guaranteed 12,300 consoles sold at launch would achieve 10% of expected annual sales worldwide?
Will Switch 2 have a significant impact on Steam Deck, Ally X and Legion Go's sale?
Yes

The Steam Deck and the Switch are for two completely different parts of the gaming market. They won't affect each other in the slightest.

$399 for the handheld, the dock which upscale significantly sold separately makes sense.
People wouldn’t be happy. That ruins the whole switch appeal as a lot of gamers want low prices. They don’t want to feel like they have to buy 2 things for what they had before. Even if it’s more powerful. They will accept slight price increases like $400 for a non OLED.

Nintendo can absolutely sell at $499. If the handheld aspect is there and the docked aspect has comparable power to current gen, absolutely. Especially with the current third party games PLUS Nintendo’s own AAA titles. It would sell and sell out at $499.

The people saying "no" about buying the PS5 is not surprising - and even if it sells as well as the PS4 Pro that would still probably be a win for Sony, which only made up like 15% of overall PS4 sales. The PS5 Pro doesn't need to overtake the PS5 in sales, it's just meant to supplement them and add to the overall userbase.

Nintendo might want to show off the switch 2 before the Tokyo game show so that they can take it there and show it off to other developers without any more leaks getting out.
When will Nintendo show the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time?
No one knows. And I'm sick of hearing of Switch 2.
Would like to be able to connect it simply to a VR headset, but probably won't be able to. Hopefully in the Switch 3 generation Nintendo will dabble with VR.
Nintendo could absolutely charge $500 for the next switch. If it's powerful enough.
Nintendo has said it will ANNOUNCE the next console within this fiscal year, not launch.
In terms of price, the cost to make and distribute things has gone up SO MUCH in the past 7 years, especially the last few. I'm pretty sure they won't sell it for less than $500 unless they are taking a loss to lean into game sale profits. Anyhow, price won't be decided by what people "think it should cost," very few consumers have any clue of what goes into making a product like this. The PS5 pro is a great example of this, from the perspective of a comparable PC users with an absurdly expensive graphics cards, $700 really isn't that much at all.
Achievements/Trophies would be a nice touch
I’m always team Xbox so Ryan is always my favorite but ever since Max took over for Dornbush the back and forth is soooo much more enjoyable. He represents the ps side much better.

Why don't people count the 3 Months Switch released It come out almost 8 years ago.
They can still have a 1st party direct for all the "MIA" ports and games; such as Metoid Prime 2-3, Zelda Twighlight Princes, Wind Waker, ect. While they could do what they want; they don't need to reveal it this month for any particular reason. 2nd week in October (to give time for Zelda Echos of Wisdom and the Switch Lite to sell a bit) makes the most sense, if not later.

- game Updates & DLCS can be transferred to game cartridge itself /physical collection right now is almost a joke, since every game is released broken with day 1 updates

My TVs are only ever whatever the latest Nintendo console can output. If it’s still 1080p, I’ll stick with my current 12 year old Samsung.
They want to release it either for xmas or easter. From what Ive heard, they have been waiting for a moment for the big profit outside japan. So easter might be also a thing. But then again, they prolly think.. Everyone wants a switch 2 under there xmas tree. Meaning mid of november. Then they need to be showcasing before october. Then it will depend on the world economy. Think the Nintendo Switch 2 has been done for a while. Just not realeased due to the economy

PS5 Pro will sell out no matter what, the real question is how well will it sell in the long run.
What kind of logic is that? The PS5 Pro is not going to "sell out", as in .. create a shortage of Pro consoles to go around.
And as far as how it will continue to sell, the answer is it will sell as well as Sony is expecting it to, along with the PS5 slim.
