    As the capital of your country, your city needs government buildings like parliaments, ministries, national offices and embassies!

    Absolutely loving this series. Springfield and Marble Mountain got me into Cities Skylines videos, so seeing a project like this come together is just beautiful. The whole Rockstar-inspired map design ethos is amazing too. You could probably base a whole GTA-style concept around this map or Marble Mountain.

    Maybe the pedestrian mall could be named Eureka St? Not only because it's a reference to an Australian historical event, but the word Eureka is ancient Greek for "I found it!" which could be some reference to finding something to buy at the pedestrian mall??

    Its absolutely epic when you show places on Google earth that I as an American went to during my 5 weeks in Australia. 6:27, bought a danish a pastry shop in a building off that street.

    Mate! You're cities are always hyper realistic but I didn't realise how realistic exactly until you started basing one off of Sydney (and the rest of the AU/NZ cities). I can't get enough of this.

    Maybe it's just me but I feel like the skyline would benefit from a bit of 'rejuvenation'. You have some pretty cool new skyscrapers popping up all over Australia, would be nice to have some in Dundee as well. :)

    It probably goes without saying, but if you're pedestrianising alot of the city, you definitely need to make an area inspired by Sydney's Chinatown.

    15:00 Yes, a pedestrian mall doesn't need to be about shopping. A mall is a large area or public walk with trees. The more popular definition of shopping mall came from the idea of enclosing on of those. The "National Mall" in Washington is probably the most famous example of a pedestrian mall in the USA that's named that. It's lined with the Smithsonian museums and other cultural buildings.

    Brisbane's CBD has all horizontal street names named after British Queens, and all vertical street names named after British Kings. And because of that our major pedestrian mall is called Queen Street, you could do a similar thing where you name all your CBD streets based off an idea (e.g historically significant Australians) and choose your name for the mall based off that??

    • @JesusManera
      @JesusManera 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Melbourne CBD has some vertical street names that do similar, the following are all in a row: King, William, Queen, Elizabeth. Easy to remember the order of those streets!

    I've worked with various cities in real life to design and build pedestrian plazas here in the US, and I'm always surprised at the large opposition to taking away space from cars and people's fears about traffic and parking. This is why we can't have nice things.

    I think a great name for the big building in between the two roads could be "Canberra Plaza", maybe referencing Australia's capital and this being the shopping "capital" of the CBD. My idea was for it to be a big fancy (and expensive) old mall

  • @frojoe2004

    Idea for pedestrian roads to eliminate truck traffic.
    Download a single lane narrow ally-way road to put behind the buildings as service roads and ban truck traffic on the pedestrian paths.

    A lot of street names come from historic business or industry, but if there's lots of banks, maybe something like Goldsmith's Avenue would be a cool name. Or, if Dundee has a history trading raw materials, it could be something like Ore Street.

    Although, the width of the street crossing is itching me. Wouldn't you think an even width crossing would connect just exquisitely. I mean just look at the average Japanese city. It's a perfect opportunity, it would be a shame not to, right?
