    My lore on this area is that it was once an insignificant forested area when Dundee was once a lone town. But during the 20th century and the completion of Dundee Bridge, the area quickly develop but was less historical than Downtown Dundee. So the locals just call it “The Westsides” in reference how it quickly develop but too artificial for it to deserve an unique name.
    Love you, $2.20!

    My two cents? Whatever name you end up with, it needs a "head" or "point" affixed to it. Ooh, Matilda Point? Matilda Bay? Something to do with waltzing?
    Final point, Devonport in Auckland's got a small naval base..? Maybe you could add in a small navy boat and a dry dock, perhaps?

    I'm not sure about which direction this is, but I think just South/East/North/West Dundee is a suitable name. Don't need to all crazy!

      Simcity musics are masterclasses on their own, the game is shit, but sometimes I still play it because of the kind of cozy ambiance you get when you play. I also find that the Sims's daily routine is much more present in Simcity (nobody in the streets at night appart from around casinos, at 7am everyone goes at their working place, then in the afternoon they go shopping, etc)
      Which makes the game really nice when you just wanna sit and watch your "city" (more like a square of skyscrapers) live. And I like that ! You don't find that logic that much in C:S, I think they should implement it, it really adds life.

  • @pgmetcalf

    Like it a lot. The on/off ramps in the middle of the highway look a bit strange but that's because the map is left-hand drive and it's not something we see a lot of here in the UK. For the future, maybe mansions high on the hillside overlooking the bay, the posh side of town, and maybe a bit of a park with viewing platform? I think the Strauss Road Bridge (animated) would work well on the breakwater road, especially with a ferry going through it. Nice job

    I know this isn't related to Canada at all, but there are some point tower assets on the workshop you could use for the skyline. I think they would match if not perfect. Maybe right next to the highway.
    Also Vancouver has a building regulation where the buildings cannot be a certain height so they don't cover the mountain backdrop.
    Great episode, I've been waiting for this area to be built on, it was screaming it.

    Local 'Shore Boy' here, regarding a name for the area. I grew up in a suburb called Glenfield on the North Shore, which prior to European arrival was known as Kaipātiki (Kai-par-tea-key) which translates into english as flounder. It was so called because all of the muddy estuaries in the area meant flounder was plentiful and it was the main source of food in the area. Hence why when you began adding in the rivers/estuaries I thought a name like Kaipātiki or Kaipātiki Bay would be perfect for the area.

  • @MinedMaker

    Personally loving the idea of more suburbs. I'm guessing something less historical than Dundee proper, but still pretty old. Cities skylines builds always skimp on the suburbs.

    The new place should be a part of Dundee only, it would be too close for a new city. Also I like the old bridge by the country side which was changed into the 2 lane highway 3:22, really hope it comes back

  • @Tensei007
    @Tensei007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honestly I think it makes the most sense to have that place across the river to be a part of Dundee, because otherwise the density of Dundee doesn't make a ton of sense. And making it a different town would make the place look more like Atlanta and less like "Oceania"

    I would love to see an extension of Downtown Dundee but maybe with a more historic, low-rise business and shopping district with a couple high-rise appartments and town houses towards the Bay Area. Love your videos and can’t wait to see what you’ll do with Dundee.
    Edit: I think something like the interior of the Melbourne CBD would look cool for this side of Dundee, similar to the areas along Elizebeth, Collins, and Russel Street with elements from a colonial architecture style, with some residential scattered throughout.

    A zoo would be cool, Perth and Sydney both have zoos on the opposite side of the river/bay from the CBD and they both have a ferry line that basically exist just to cater to the tourists going to the zoo. Or maybe even a big park with good views of Dundee, that would be pretty cool too.

    I feel like a different city would fell more belonging than suburbs for this region.
    And for the name, it could be something like Hempshire Bays. It could originally be focused on the growing and manufacturing of Hempseeds, creating a small port on the bay (converted into a marina in modern days) to commercialize their products easier. The Shire them reorganized it’s economy within negotiations with Dandee for making the whole region one unified city, but the negotiations failed and Hempshire Bays is currently trying to solve its exodus for lacking of labor by investing in the technology sector, building a big Research Center midtown and firming contracts with Dandee’s University.
    Just a little lore I thought of. Be free to use it if you like it

  • @gregchalmers364
    @gregchalmers364 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Absolutely love this new style of editing and direction you're going. I think the zoo would be an awesome idea, especially a bayside zoo like the Toranga Zoo. I also think you should incorporate a nature reserve into your build around this side going into the mountains, taking inspiration from the hillside reserves around Auckland. And maybe this is just me, but I think a drawbridge over the key you just built would allow sailboats to pass through if you decide to build a marina.

    The old wood bridge at 3:20 should be kept as a walking bridge and the new bridge should be off centre to the left or right of it. Very common in regional areas to just build along side the old and then disconnect it.

    An idea for the area is to put one or two more sports stadiums because I know that some cities has one stadium in the downtown area and one in the suburbs like in San Francisco and Chicago for an example. Also I think taking the San Francisco Bay area for inspiration would be cool.

    Network Multitool has a better slope tool than MoveIt. MoveIt just looks at the distance in a straight line between the points furthest away from each other, which means that the sloping is only accurate for straight paths. NMT looks at the distance along the path, which makes it accurate for curved roads as well.
    The only benefit of MoveIt’s slope tool is that you can use it for objects other than networks as well.

    In the second downtown or on the other side, what about an expo/convention center? I'm sure it can double as an urban/professional center and as a rural expo/country fair. Or otherwise some sort of festival grounds. Reckon with that much space it can be a good filler.
    And like other people have alluded to, some sort of military infrastructure (albeit small, this isn't a huge island or nation with massive geopolitical ties.) Or perhaps a sporting port/marina to contrast with the commercial port, perhaps close to some rich suburbs so that the aristocracy can get a fix of rapidly-depreciating-asset turned maritime amusement?

    Dunno why but that little breakwater/bridge thing you built reminded me of Tom Uglys bridge down off Blakehurst/Sylvania for some reason, they're nothing really alike but for some reason it gives me the same feeling. The little windy road through the valley, kind of like into the Blue Mountains? For the rail thing, check out the rail line through the Hawksbury, caught that to and from Sydney to Newcastle a few times going on the water front there is really quite pretty.
    Also, lol yeah the expressway over the harbour bridge is BS, thank god for trains IMO.
