I just noticed that the large intersection at Paterson needs the turning lanes fixed. Cars are queuing up to make turns over the median and blocking the intersection.
a good example of a port near the mountains (as you got it) is the one in Bilbao, northern Spain. When the expansion was made 30 years ago it was built near a smaller city in the Bilbao metropolitan area, in Santurtzi. Its called Bilbao port
30:00 As a workaround of these trains switching lanes , i use the tmpe and give those connecting parts a slower speed limit. So they moslty stay. Or you can ban cargo trains from some of the lanes
The latter part. Ban them from where they were cutting the corner for example. 😌 He's done a lot of work on the speeds to make them more realistic in built up areas and turns so there's not alot of movement with them to help routing.
I think it would make sense to include some duplexes by the railyard since that industry really needs workers near by. Then I would branch it off so there are a couple streets that go up into the hills with a few houses. Maybe, include a roundhouse and turntable for the trains. That would look neat. Always a pleasure whatever you build tho. You'll definitely need more rubbish collection.
The area with the unknown industry, I’ve recently built a small fishing town in that area, which also has a ferry to the large island. To get tourists I made a nature reserve with a small camp ground, horse stables and a few tracks along the ridge plus a costal path to one of the beaches. Great work making this map with each area being so diverse. Nailed the open world RPG feel.
For the cargo rail I would recommend doing a single track bypass line around the bay area. Mainly to prevent the Central Station from to much congestion.
That hillside behind the cargo terminal would be great for some low-mid quality housing, I'm talking old state houses or homes built in the 30s-40s that are showing their age, backed onto that with some dense forest up until the windfarm. Areas in Wellington would serve as a good example; Khandallah, Ngaio, Brooklyn, Karori, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, maybe not so much Mirimar because that's more mid-high quality. Definitely more Kilbirnie/Lyall Bay than anything, those suburbs sit alongside Wellington Airport.
Yes, that kind of rougher neighborhood would look great next to railways and a very industrial park. Kind of like where the old workers would have been living in the 20's. Back in the days downtown -ish was always where they lived to be near industry as the downtown area was not desirable to the wealthier class like it is today.
In terms of trains overtaking one another, usually the bypass/double track sections are located in the stations so that a freight train can pass a commuter at passenger stations.
Great video! For the freight trains that are going through the stations, you can use TM:PE's vehicle restriction function to only allow passenger services on a certain bit of track.
I would say that since the railyard is near the Olympic park, that there are nicer towers/homes/townhouses near the stadium shifting to less dense housing up the mountain and closer to the airport
Old style suburbs would suit in between the freight yard and hill there. It’s proximity to the city centre would have had it developed early on in the cities history and can show how the freight hard would have pushed most of the suburbs out
The area you worked on around the port and rail hub looks so Grand Theft Auto! 😄👌🏼 Those beach spots are selling them selves. An attempt at a stretch of protected reef around the islands would be a good challenge. Please can Oceania have a sacred site, like Uluru!? Rock formation/ landscape art/ highway rest spot called Dream time. 🤷🏽♂️ Australia has such an ancient and rich history. Top guy really enjoy your content $2.20. Cannot wait for new build.
Great vid, but cargo trains don't usually go to airports as trucks do that job. Planes and trains are both for long distance in cargo so they don't interact often
I absolutely love this series! Of all the great things in every episode I keep noticing how awesome the forests look: they look incredibly realistic and dense!
This series is kicking all the right boxes, fantastic work Two Dollars Twenty. One suggestion, maybe a bit of Queensland flavour and have an area of cane fields or banana plantations. Both are found along the majority of the QLD coastline.
In NSW, there are sections of track just for freight, some just for passenger and some mixed use. I think you can definitely play around a bit with separating the passenger and freight in certain parts of the map. Frieght might take a more direct, less scenic route to Paterson, but overlap coming into town. A good example is in Western Sydney where commuter trains run on the T1 and T3 lines, and there is a freight line that runs through the industrial areas of Enfield and Chullora (roughly between Homebush and Punchbowl on the communter lines) which links directly to Port Botany without joining commuter lines again. There are some great maps online, including Transport for NSW ones. I imagine having freight rail swing around the coast through Port Taranaki before heading inland to Paterson makes more sense than sharing the passenger line by the dam.
As a train driver in NSW it good to see some realistic trains and train lines in Cities Skylines. Whenever I play the trains get clogged up because they drive on either track and then get stuck with oncoming trains. I wish they only drove on the same side as the road traffic.
I'm so late i guess you wont notice this, but the the port and the cargo station was put there for a reason. What about an old closed cave/mine site in the mountain and old workers residents that now have been turned into fancy houses?
For the steep change in elevation between the coastal town and the plateau, maybe you could build a rail spiral, like the Raurimu Spiral! I think that could be a pretty cool build. Thanks for the series :)
You can also ban certain trains from tracks. I think TM:PE is needed for that. It does work the same way that it does for roads. That way you could ban cargo trains on station tracks or on short stretches of rail. That way you could have left the switch in.
Hey there, two dollars, LOVE your channel, thank you so much for all of your videos. I know you said you weren't planing any european style builds in the near future, BUT if've just been on holiday in Italy and found a place that I would love to see in one of your builds. The area is called "Cinque Terre" in northwestern Italy. Five litte, beautiful villages on a steep mountainside right next to the sea, connected mainly through a trainline going through tunnels, a bikelane going through the old train tunnels on the beachside, and many walking paths through the vineyards and forests in the mountains between the villages. Some small curvy roads connect the villages, but are mostly reserved for service vehicles. And of course, the villages are connected up via a ferry system. You can obviously find a lot of tourism there, combined with some agriculture (many vineyards). - Beautiful landscape -Beautiful, colourful villages -Litte Beaches and tiny fishing harbours -Very interesting infrastructure (train connection - one line, going through tunnels from north to south, connecting up to two bigger citys in both directions, ferry system, small curvy mountain roads, cycling tunnel between the villages, walking paths) - be shure to also check out the villages Levanto and Bonassola north of the area, the old train bridges there have been reused for parking and cycling. IF you should decide to do a european style build in the future, please check out Cinque Terre. Cargo tunnels are not always Single track, there are countless examples around the world with two tracks, also at ports! The must have 2 tracks to the point where the 3 lines converge, Otherwise you will have too many backups.

Exactly what i had in mind. While we do have a Bondi-esque part to Dundee, I think a dedicated touristic city is necessary within the island. Plus it looks to have so great big beaches
in the industry area, I think it should be mainly industry, but with some lower income single family homes nearby transitioning into a wilderness area. I was thinking the single family homes could be trailers, but don't know how realistic that would be for Oceania.
I was really triggered by the streetlights out on the outback road. When you get out there it'd be great if you add cattle grids, old dilapidated shearing sheds and some homesteads. Take a look at western NSW near Broken Hill or Cobar, there are massive open plains broken up with the occasional fence and cattle grid
When you build your airport or sooner may I suggest that you build a dense, older, slightly run-down urban suburb next to the cargo hub on the hill side of the highway. We have many examples of this in the United States such as Charlestown, Chelsea, East Boston and South Boston in and around Boston, MA. I would expect similar working class suburbs in Australia and New Zealand.
I had something to bare in mind but when this series comes to an end whenever it does, have you ever thought of your next project would be a Boston Massachusetts series, like the surrounding towns out towards the west is less dense and there are so many mountains and valleys in Massachusetts! I’d thought I ask you that because I’m interested of watching something like that on TH-cam
That should also include the dense larger towns on the North Shore and the prettier, smaller towns on the South Shore (of course each shore has its exceptions)
You don’t have to destroy your connections so the cargo trains won’t go through the stations. You can use TMPE to ban cargo or passengers trains from a track just as you do to roads
Looks good, is it possible to do passenger only train lines? I can see massive jams in the port area and an express rail line to the airport would be preferable. Love the line to Paterson. Where you were talking about putting the ore industry, I think I'd go for oil in that area personally. The reason being is that the land is flattish and on the coast and it just feels oily if you know what I mean. Plus you could have offshore rigging/drilling.
you could make the uh, area by the train yard some sort of parkland? The parkland could have been built there at the same time as the olympic park was. For some reference I would look at the Olympic park in Munich, which has a massive parkland around it (its super nice in real life and the people on Dundee would surely enjoy something similar)
Please fix the freeway ramps at the port. The loop is pointless (and unrealistic) as no turn is needed where the ramp is in the same direction as the freeway lanes. Would love to see more expansion also
for the space behind the station at the port because its near the Olympic park you could make the Olympic city there for the athletes when they come to the Olympics there
The area on the other side of the new rail depot and harbor should be for more industrial/city services. Garbage/ recycling area or an expanded water treatment area. Something like that maybe
How about you build a smaller, Perth inspired city in the ore/desert region. Got a nice east-west thing going with Dundee too. Idk, seems like it'd work good.
You said you hadn't decided on an industry for what I assume will be the Queensland inspired town. Considering it will probably resemble the Gold Coast, you could have a small film industry (depending on how big you want to make the town). If not tourism could be your best bet and you could place a mini reef out from the coast, as well as a resort or two. Just thought I would drop in a few ideas, as a Queenslander.
Hey maybe take away the ultra long cargo trains as they are longer then most cargo stations and they just look a bit stupid For the rest another killer epsiode 👍
what about some industry directly next to the train cargo hub and above in the hills some nice suburbs, and I think it would also fit some worker class suburbs nearby because of the industry. Great episode btw:)
This might be a R3V0 question - but arent custom freight stations "activated" by first placing the vanilla asset, allowing trains to move there, and then placing the custom asset? Same for inter-city trains.
Superbly exquisite, yet the scale of the landscape is about 5 * too small... This island must be at least 40 km in diameter to make the whole diagram realistic but now it looks like it's around at most 8 km...
What is that rail tunnel mod called by the way? I would really love to have tunnels that dont put me into the void under the map when going through them with first person camera
I don’t like the tunnel going under the stadiums, it’s not something they would do irl, a train going under stadiums would cause too much vibration in the stadium.
You've got the freight passing through the tunnel very close to the metro line. I mean, honestly, it's way too close, I know technically the game will allow it, but you can't ignore it once you see it. I figure perhaps the freight line needs to start going down much sooner.
I saw how you sloped the rail, Mcsergeys network Multitool is a bit better than move it slope function, also I see you are not using the EML prop anarchy - out of curiosity, is there a reason? Also you can combine the zoning adjuster, acme button, render it button and tmpe button into Unified UI toolbox. Anyway, I love those rail episodes, can't wait for the airport and the second big city after the forestry industry area!
if you need some ideas for the city that will be located in the top right, take a look at my city in some of my videos. I'm making Coolangatta which is a city located on the QLD NSW border, very interesting place.
Just wondering, are you aware of all the great features that the network multitool mod has to offer? I especially find the curve and slope tool very useful (the slope tool is also supposed to be better than the Move it one) and I think it could really make some things easier for you if you used it more often! Anyway, great episode!
Why don't any of these cities skyline TH-cam designers worry about wildlife corridors or ecosystem integrity? We have these beautiful maps with a lot of theoretical plant and animal diversity and they just get mined, built up and exploited. I wish Cities Skyline came out with a Biodiversity Expansion pack that measured ecosystem health.

I think you should add a really poor suburb near the rail yard to add variety
I suggest you add a bankstown canterbury council based area with the velodrome in that area since i was in that today.
The train spawning limit mod is called "Despawn manager"
The towns: We have all kinds of problems
2.50: Let’s detail the railroads.
I think you should probably do an episode where you fix up all the random undetailed gaps of Dundee
You can use traffic manager to restrict train tracks to either passenger or cargo rail.

You've got the freight passing through the tunnel very close to the metro line. I mean, honestly, it's way too close, I know technically the game will allow it, but you can't ignore it once you see it. I figure perhaps the freight line needs to start going down much sooner.
I'm curious why it is a problem in real life?
@@ghostangel828 two tunnels at approximately the same depth. This means they intersect. Or one has a steep gradient to pass under the other.
It's not quite transport fever 2 but it's damn good!
if you need some ideas for the city that will be located in the top right, take a look at my city in some of my videos. I'm making Coolangatta which is a city located on the QLD NSW border, very interesting place.
Wow your series if very $2.20 inspired! I really like your style, I subbed!
I would love to see a video of you showing some of the detailing mods/assets you use alot
How do you get the paths on elevated roads to link up with elevated paths
What mod you use for slower traffic?
Just wondering, are you aware of all the great features that the network multitool mod has to offer? I especially find the curve and slope tool very useful (the slope tool is also supposed to be better than the Move it one) and I think it could really make some things easier for you if you used it more often! Anyway, great episode!
will your florida series be like the bordertown series or like the mile bay series
Another Great Video… thanks for That. just one question: which camera mod are you using?
I’m using Totally Free camera mod and Zoom It
@@twodollarstwenty thank you very much
You haven't updated the map on your website in a while
Why don't any of these cities skyline TH-cam designers worry about wildlife corridors or ecosystem integrity? We have these beautiful maps with a lot of theoretical plant and animal diversity and they just get mined, built up and exploited. I wish Cities Skyline came out with a Biodiversity Expansion pack that measured ecosystem health.
YES
to be realistic new towns can form around train stations
Next will you do a toll bridge with two lanes to connect to the the small peice of land or island???
