I love the concept of the self-regulating network for a city Imagine living in a place like NYC, taking a train to your job, and the train back will just stop at the first available station somewhere else in the city, miles away from your home
Even worse, even the driver doesn't know where the train is going until it leaves the HQ. You're not taking a train home, you're just getting on the first available train from the HQ and playing russian roulette
damn bro i just finished bingeing all ur other content yesterday and we already got a new one. I fw u heavy this deadass some of the most interesting content for this game i seen in a fat minute
Running a railroad with hundreds of Centennials sounds like an absolute nightmare. For those who don't know, each (real life) Centennial is actually two locomotives fused together on a single frame, which is how they have such impressive performance. With twice as many things to break and twice the weight of engine, they aren't exactly kind to the tracks or the maintenance shops. Also only 47 were built over 2 years, so in this alternate universe you'd be keeping the locomotive manufacturer very busy for a very long time. I'd like to see a transport game where you have to wait for the manufacturer to assemble the vehicles you buy...to increase suffering, of course. (But seriously, that could be interesting for more realistic play. Maybe not for these challenge runs though.)
I'm currently doing what I'm coining the Kirby Paul challenge in Factorio, where you are required to limit all cargo wagon slots to 1 stack each, and trains aren't allowed to run on better fuel than coal. It's fun to finally need so many trains and throughput with elevated rails and all, so feel free to try the challenge!
It's nice to see people still building OpenTTD Co-op style in 2024. Totally opposite from my playstyle but it's fascinating to watch -- and I like how you explain game mechanics as you go along. If you're looking for a future challenge, OpenTTD 14 introduced new settings to scale town and industry cargo, from 15% of original to 300%. I usually play with the amount of cargo turned down, but it would be interesting to see if you can keep up with a 300% game!
Talking about intelligent trains, neural train network when? As the Game of Life project has shown it should be possible with minimal modding. Can't wait to see you TRAIN TRAINS.
It's a program I wrote that converts an exported heightmap to a 3d mesh. I can then export a high-res screenshot of the map and use that as a texture. The trees are generated randomly afterwards
@@ChuggersLR That's a smart way of doing it! Another reason I'm so thankful for OpenTTD's seamless multiplayer. It's really so nice to be able to create and join servers so quickly, even between different clients and device types

I always find it sad when a city is grown artificially because its inhabitants will die in a week without energy. like Yakutsk, Dubai and Las Vegas. but on the other hand i want Atlas Obscura to grow
eh, the move away from the "monotonous, rough mumbling" to the "pseudo-happy voice like oh, how fun" may of course attract new viewers, but the style and uniqueness of the channel will only suffer from this
congratulations Chugtopia is a beautiful abomination for city planners everywhere
Yo. Didn't know you had such good taste in TH-camrs.
Well hello there this is unexpected
Good taste verified!
Oh, you may also like Marcel Vos' YT Channel, it's sort of the same type of content, but about Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and OpenRCT2

You have to do that in Workers and Resources if you build your own vehicles.

Love all your videos! Just curious on how do you make the 3D animations from the 2D world of OpenTTD
at the beginning i thought you were gonna say "the weather outside is rizzy"
12:21 how do you make these cool timelapses? 😮
I start a server with the map, record with one client at far zoom and build with another client

3:01 average design of an USA city layout.
Why not use buses to move more people?
I initially planned on using buses but I couldn't figure out a decent layout that wouldn't require me to place even more roads
