- don't overcomplicate things. this is supposed to be fun remember?
here is a quick and dirty breakdown of what you should be focusing on when you start skating. a bare-bones breakdown for my meat and potatoes folks.
start by lacing up properly and then focus being mindful of your weight,
transferring from one side to the other side.
im serious, pay attention to where your weight is.
is it on the outside edge of your skates,
how do your toes feel pressed against the bottom of your boot?
when you feel comfortable,
graduate to the vstep for at least 10 side-to-side shifts before attempting the vwalk.
to start the v-glide, hold it for 10 seconds. breathe. glide. smile.
and look at that, you're skating boo.💋

I am 50+ year old man and apart from 4-5 ice skating lessons 20 years ago, I had never tried any other kind of skating before. I bought roller skates, went through this video couple of times and then practiced exactly as you mentioned and I was able to reach v-glide within 2 days. Thank you very much.

Man I broke my tailbone skating at a rink when I was a kid and have always been terrified of trying it again. I'm not saying I will, but you make it look so easy and fun that I wouldn't say no to trying again in the future.

My friends and I were going to a skating rink, and I had no idea how to skate for my life. I put on my skates and pulled this video life, and IT IS A LIFE SAVER! I fell and had a tailbone injury too. On Amazon I got the
Soared 3D Protection Hip Butt EVA Paded Short Pants Protective Gear Guard. I fell with these on and didn''t feel a thing. However my head snapped back but I was wearing a helmet as well. It was a cheap and did not give much protection because I felt the pain from that too. I then ordered a better helmet. Also ordered a skate mate to hold on to while practicing. I'm through skating if I can't do it with the help of these items. Just wanted to let you know that the paded short pants will protect your bottom.

I learned to skate as a little kid back in the 80s. I would skate for hours in the neighborhood or at the skating rink. It never occured to me how to explain how to do it.
Your video is excellent!!! I was trying to teach my little kids how to skate but i was all over the place and just kind of showing them what i do instead of giving good tips or actual advice.

Can’t wait to see backwards skating teaching! I’ve owned skates since 2020 I can only skate forward. I can teach myself to do things forwards, but when it comes to going backwards it’s a mess!
I tried skating before, but I couldn’t move AT ALL. Trust me when I say it took me an hour to take a lap around the entire rink one time.

My knees are super bad and i could even feel the joy of gliding just by looking at ter!
As someone who used to ski regularly from the ages of 10-15, the V-glide trick is EXACTLY how you learn to transition from walking to sliding on skis on flat surfaces ! Unlike roller-skating, this one is incredibly more challenging and takes much longer to really get right (since you have no wheels, you've got to do it just through weight distribution) - but once you do, you look like a pro by just moving a few feet.
Taught my 6-yr old daughter in just over a day using your video. Before your video, it seemed like it would take forever for her to learn to skate. Thanks!

A true teacher. You can do more with this wonderful culture of skating. Can there be people elsewhere who can be interested in the skating as you guys are doing?
By looking at you, I strongly believe that you have huge spaces where you can get people adopt the skating.
I first roller skated on steel street skates when I was a kid in the 60s. In the early 70s, we lived near an ice skating rink, and I learned to ice skate. During high school, roller rinks and disco/funk/soul were HUGE!!! It's nice to see the culture is still thriving. I'd love to see national roller skate line dance team competitions! The uniforms and music alone would make it a spectacle to behold!
That bit about "I'm lucky that grief let me out here in the first place," is so real. My brother died a month ago, and it still feels so hard to do normal things. You are heard, and I feel heard.

I figured out how to roller skate after being near the wall for a long time watching everyone else have fun but then I used my breaks to start moving then I finally learned to skate without the breaks. I skate fast now I found this video so when I'm in Florida we can go skating.

OH MY GOODNESS..I've never been able to roller skate and I didn't try because it's late while I'm watching this but I have a school fieldtrip for skating and this video made my jaw drop it makes everything look so much simpler, when I had gone last time I kept falling I was like "I can't do this! I'll never be able to skate!"..but this video gives me courage and confidence to know that if you don't give up, you listen and you watch and take it step by step that practice really does make perfect.
