    I have watched so many Beginner Skating videos to try to help me skate (I'm an absolute newbie) and while they have pretty great tips your videos have definitely been the most helpful in terms of explaining things in greater detail. I can't wait to try these tips on the streets!

      Oh wow! Thank you. I try to explain where the weight goes etc as it’s often hard to see it just from looking at my feet. Good luck on your skating journey. Have fun and happy rolling 🛼

    I love how you give info from before you've even started skating (how to lace up etc.) stuff I hadn't even thought about, thanks! strangely enough I got moving forward real quick and surprisingly easy. stopping however is still a struggle also standing still without rolling off... PS love what you've don't with your channel name hehe

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your lovely comment x. Stopping and standing are definitely tricky. I have a new video about the fundamentals which may help you with stopping. Stopping requires you to balance more on one foot, that video covers that. I also have a stopping video if you’d like to try that too. Keep safe ⛑ and happy rolling 🛼

    I'm 51 and I got some new skates after not skating since I was about 14. I don't know why but I thought I'd be better than I was. I was clinging on to a fence for about 20 mins then got the hang of it. Nowhere near ready for the parks though!

    I loveeee riding roller skates but there is one problem, I am horrible at riding them and i keep falling down and hurting myself, i just wish i didn’t fall so much. I tried wearing a lot of safety equipment like you are wearing and it helped not getting hurt, thanks for showing me and also I love how you showed me the trick of roller skating, i thought i would never learn, but thanks to you, i did. Today was my first day riding them and, i learned how to balance and ride a bit, even though i get a bit scared if i go too fast. Thanks again, helped a lot. :)

    The nice thing about losing balance when moving forward and grabbing your ankles is that if you DO still fall, your knees will be closer to the ground already and you knee pads will pick up the brunt of the fall. WAY less dangerous than windmilling your arms and falling backwards or on your hip!

    New quad skater here. I’m not new to skating cause I did in-line skate when I was younger but I am new to quad skating. I fell in them when I was younger and have always been kind of scared to try them again, haha. I found I wasn’t to scared with them skating around inside but taking my Boardwalks outside with the stock wheels had me terrified😅😅. After even more research I did invest in some Atom Pulse outdoor wheels that will hopefully help curb the fear cause I’m loving skating it so far.

Thing is am i too old? I am 42 so would i look like a bit of a wally skating around? I mean i was thinking that in my 30s and hence why i still havent started lol

      @@lorrainecotton5414 I don't realy know too much about them yet but probally Rio as my first pair. I still need to understand how to size them up too. As im worried it will be all wrong.. For example when I go ice skating with my daughter ive been putting on size 9 as im a size 9 shoe and i was always thinking its too big and got ankle and leg ache but then I learned that for ice skates you need to be 1 - 1.5 size down from your show size for ice skates. I am also in UK london.. typically there are no skate shops near me that i know of

    Hello.
    Thanks for all your videos, they have been great in helping me get started. I'm a total beginner. I'm trying to learn the bubble. I have found that I get my forward momentum on the 'outward' push rather than the inward 'pull'. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks!

      Thanks for getting back to me, I have watched that video. I have been binge watching your content while waiting for my skates to arrive.
      But in the video you mentioned that the forward momentum comes from the 'pull in'.
      That's not where I'm getting mine. I keep needing to reset to v to "start again " unless there is a slight downward slope.
      I get the in and out foot movement on the slopes. But if I'm trying to go up the slight slope I get nothing unless I'm just repeating the push out.
      Is it just a muscle strength thing?
      Thanks again!

      @@fistofdorn85 do you have movement in your trucks? If you stand on your skates and flex the weight between the big and little toe there should be movement of the wheels towards each other. If you’re not getting this flex you may need to loosen the trucks a little. You need movement in your trucks to get the inside edges (weight on the big toe) to create the momentum.

    • @fistofdorn85

      @@Skatie thanks again for getting back to me. Should I be loosening the front and back trucks equally? Or do I need to experiment to find what feels right for me? The front ones have more flex than the back

    are rollerskates supposed to make a consistent noise while skating outside? Mine are so loud its kind of embarrassing. They're not loud when I spin the wheels, just while skating.

    Hello Skatie! I find your videos really helpful as I am learnig how to roll skate and improving my english as well! But I have a doubt: i have “heels” boots for indoors like yours but do you think that using the “sneakers” rolling skates for outdoors would be easier???

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you swap to flat boots from a heel you’ll feel like you’re more likely to fall backwards it’s because the heel pushes your weight towards the ball of the foot which helps with balance. I’m not sure flatter boot are easier outside but absolutely give it a try it may work better for you. If you go with the flat boot you’ll need to really keep low and bend bend bend to keep your balance. Have fun! 🛼💕⭐️

    Hi Skatie. You mentioned not to go a size up for your skates, but what if the boots in your actual size is too tight?

    • @Skatie
      @Skatie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way to measure for skates is to draw around your foot onto a piece of paper and measure the length. Then you can compare it to the manufacturers size chart. Skate size often differs from street shoe size and it differs from brand to brand. The best thing to do if you can is try them on at a skate shop. Then if your correct size is a size up you’ll know it fits.

    Today's the day. Initially I just stepped around trying to get centered. When I tried to push off (to the side) a wee bit to roll I couldn't do it. My skate just wanted to roll under. I'm so used to doing the side push. I can see figure skating is not going to be my friend on quads. I couldn't slalom because my trucks needed to be loosened. When I tried to adjust them after I'm in an absolute quandary. The truck bolts (kingpins) are not even when I counted the threads. Oy vey. Well experimenting with them will be for the next time. I was hoping to do better.
