ChefDomH. I was talking about those the other day. They send your car out with advertising and car damage by adding 3d emblems to them. If they paid me a yearly advertising fee I'd be cool w it. but they just fuck you into advertising.
yeah. The license and Vin number don't identify a car. hey repo man...go grab a grey Mustang that has our symbol. Pick one. It doesn't matter it has our logo it must be the one we're looking for......dumb
I'd tell them to remove the badge or i buy the car somewhere else - I can understand a sticker or plate border but a badge..make me shake my head whenever I see cars with them
There is this orange stuff called Goo Be-Gone. Don't even need that razor. Spray it on let it sit and wipe it off. And your paint is perfect. I've taken off emblems and decals from my cars and motorcycle.
+Bret Vines i have a 2005 g35 and decided to de-badge the trunk , i used goo gone and there is still a golden residue from the glue , i dont know what else to do or use to remove it , thanks for any help or advice
This video was very helpful and in super good quality. Not to loud, not to low. Back ground noise not loud and his voice is at the right volume. Great video
extremely helpful video! I used 10lb test fishing line + blow dryer + Goo Gone and the dryer worked VERY quickly - can't imagine taking the risk of a heat gun when the blow dryer was so fast (30-45 sec per badge). after the badges were off, the excess adhesive tape rolled right off by hand (2016 Toyota Highlander), so the Goo Gone was just for cleanup and took 60 secs (I could have skipped it!). then wiped clean and hand waxed. done! total time = heating badge, 1 min.; fishing line, 2 mins.; removing excess adhesive, 5 mins; Goo Gone and wiping clean, 5 mins. Difficulty level is like a 3/10. And this was my first time. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip, glad your back, I was starting to get lazy on some of my cleaning/detailing routine on my own vehicle, and need you to boot my ass and tell me to smarten up by putting out more videos!
Rather than doing this. Warm up a kettle of hot water. Pour it over the sign. It will come off then peel off the glue. Took me 5 mins for the Range Rover
Larry in my opinion you are undoubtedly the best detailer on TH-cam. You are making me seriously consider starting my own detailing company in the future but I really wish you would show more of the finished product. You clearly take a lot of pride in your work. Would have been awesome to see this car with both badges off and fully polished
Who the hell is goin to remove the gtr logo??? Nissan logo ok, but the gtr logo. Its like u remove the skin from ur body bcus "its not looking good" wtf...
Thanks Larry, great info. Also a good idea to look inside the car to make sure the emblems do not have locator tabs or else you will have holes to deal with after removal.
You have some great tutorial videos. A couple of things. First and foremost before removing any badges make sure they are not mounted on. Many manufacturers mount them with two or more pins. If you remove it there will be holes in the bodywork. You can easily go to the dealer and ask them about that part and they can show you on a schematic how it is mounted. There is an easier way to remove the glue. Instead of using a plastic razor (which can scratch the paint), take your finger (works best with rubber gloves) and roll the tape over itself. You start by just slowly rubbing a finger over a thin side of the glue and it will roll and ball up. It will make it much easier to remove the remaining glue as it sticks to itself. I have removed badges for over 20 years and found this to be the easiest, safest and fastest method.
Your vids have been incredibly educational. I never would have picked up these skills as quickly or thoroughly by reading a book on detailing. Thanks Larry and thank you TH-cam. Just used this technique to remove the "Focus" emblem from my new RS. Maybe now people will stop saying "Oh cute Focus! I rented one of those before!"
I dont even know how I got here, but you are engaging. You are not a douche and provide great information. Thanks for teaching me something. I'll be taking off emblems now the next time I'm in a parking garage.
Larry, I don't know how I ever missed your postings. However, you are the BEST and I will continue to support you. Thank you, for teaching me some things I always wanted to know. God Bless!
Excellent video. I followed this method to remove emblems from my vehicle and it worked perfectly. Can't tell it ever had emblems on it. Thanks for this
I work at Finish Line Car Wash and Detail and we're professional but we don't do the cars you guys get but we do get Porsches and Mercedes and older cars and we use lacquer thinner to get anything sticky off and actually clean stains in carpet. You have to be careful with it though. Can't get it on anything plastic it will melt it and/or discolor it. But it works very well. And seems to be safe.
Worked like a charm. I won't advertise for a car dealer unless they pay me so their "ad" is the first thing that comes off once I got my Jeep off the lot.
I like to use 120 grit medium sand paper to remove the excess glue followed by wiping the area clean with paper towels dabbed in brake fluid. Works every time!
thanks for the good video. I learned a lot from him. it just surprises me that you don't use a temperature-controlled hot air gun. I also bought a BOSCH GHG 23-66 with all the attachments. I am very satisfied.
+Fishfingers232 that's true but true bmw fans can tell a base bmw and mine is not a base model though. if a 320 and a 328 takes off at a red light you can tell the difference lol.
I learnt if you want to remove the glue, you should use petrol. It works really good and wont make any scratches, you can just whipe it of with a towel
I’ve found that a combination of solvent remover and steam is a really fast way to remove all the gunk safety 👍 I’m a detailer in the uk and love your videos with very hints and tips. Keep up the great work 👍
wd 40 sprayed on that old rubber junk takes about 2 mins if that and it all will be gone.. you don't need heat or a plastic blade... then buff and polish the area....
Easiest and safest way I learned how to do it without the chance of overheating, and scratching the paint, use a steamer + the moisture helps it get it off easier, 90% of the time without using a plastic blade
Just did it a couple weeks ago w/ a friend's new car. It didn't mess with the paint at all, just took it slow and steady till all the glue was gone. Didn't need to polish it after either. (did this just before washing it, so I guess the soap made sure the oil was gone)
I was going to remove the badges on my car, but Honda loves to put a bad on the plastic grill, so now I need to buy a OEM spec grill without the emblem seat.
3m adhesive remover works really well for taking off the rest of the double sided tape. Makes sense considering most double sided tape you find on autos use 3m product.
I used to do this pretty often at work,I would use heat to remove the badge with the fish gut, then let the left over glue cool down, apply something cold to the area, glue breaks down more so with cold, its much easier to remove,id use soap and water with the plastic blade to cause less friction.
+merrick behnke It would hurt. It would put more scratches in the paint. You can to get it off faster but then you'll have to buff longer to remove the scratches inflicted by the plastic razor.
Thanks for the info. Worked great on my motorcycle. The first thing I do with a new vehicle is remove the majority of the badging. Vehicle looks so much better without. Vintage high end cars did not have all the badges on, just the logo and maybe a GT
I want to have this done to my Bentley. My husband bought me this car and I feel a bit uncomfortable. I volunteer at a homeless shelter and also at a drug abuse agency. The people I work with and the residents are always commenting on my car. I wouldn't mind having the emblems removed so it wouldn't be so flashy.
Just because you remove the emblems doesn't mean they won't try to steal your Bentley. Maybe since you're able to afford a Bentley you should buy a secondary car that isn't flashy.
Jordan Little Thanks Jordan. I'm thinking of doing that. Not worried that they will steal anything, just thinking to not have so much unwanted attention.
Instead of removing the left over goo, after removing as much as you can, I used a medium grade clay bar with clay lube. This way the best method & the came off right away after 6 swipes of the clay, maybe you guys should try this next time you remove emblems. Just an FYI
not necessarily, depends, the wd will get your decals and emblems off but sure, if you want to polish it and buff it you can. See f there is a difference between the exposed paint and the one under the removed decal.
even on an $80k+ car, you still get orange peel, unless i'm just seeing things (to the right of his head where the light is) and i never understood why people like to debadge. makes their car look so bland with so much empty space in an area.
Maybe he got it debadged so that if he ever got caught speeding and the cop didn't know what the car was by the looks he couldn't say a "black Nissan GTR is heading south on I-90" or whatever and he might have a better chance of getting away.
Sometimes a piece of painters tape can be applied once most of the emblem is separated. Then you can continue to separate the rest without worrying about it falling. Then soak with Goo Gone and rub off with rubber glove covered finger with the aid of a heat gun. Then finish with a scratch remover compound and wax.
BE AWARE -> some logos have holes behind them! mostly to keep the logo straight. so be sure you dont have a car that has two small holes in the trunk to keep the logo steady. my opel had those.
Everyone that knows cars we'll would know that was a cheap idea. And anyone that knows cars doesn't need a damn badge to remind them that car is a GTR.
kevin rafferty I really didn´t think and didn´t know that any car manufacturers still used badge pins - but as I can see from the comments to this video clip - this is still the case. Apart from trying to google it I think - on the rear - that the only way is to remove the cover inside the trunk and to check for pins there. But it´s a good question actually.
Great video. It would be awesome if you did a follow up on removing badges from plastic/rubber areas. I have a Front emblem I plan on removing and trying to gauge how long heat should be applied when it is affixed to plastic rubber surface of car. I imagine it’s much less time than metal for applying heat.
Also a great way to get rid of the awful dealership badges that they force on customers.
ChefDomH. I was talking about those the other day. They send your car out with advertising and car damage by adding 3d emblems to them. If they paid me a yearly advertising fee I'd be cool w it. but they just fuck you into advertising.
I always thought they used license plates and VIN numbers...
yeah. The license and Vin number don't identify a car. hey repo man...go grab a grey Mustang that has our symbol. Pick one. It doesn't matter it has our logo it must be the one we're looking for......dumb
I'd tell them to remove the badge or i buy the car somewhere else - I can understand a sticker or plate border but a badge..make me shake my head whenever I see cars with them
Mark Pensmith Yes, the vin number does identify the car
No badge = weight reduction ftw

There is this orange stuff called Goo Be-Gone. Don't even need that razor. Spray it on let it sit and wipe it off. And your paint is perfect. I've taken off emblems and decals from my cars and motorcycle.
+Bret Vines It works well...did it with my Altima SE-R
goo gone works well with the glue residue, not with the foamy part of the adhesive.
+Bret Vines found a whole bottle of that stuff in a parking lot lol. Score!
+Bret Vines i have a 2005 g35 and decided to de-badge the trunk , i used goo gone and there is still a golden residue from the glue , i dont know what else to do or use to remove it , thanks for any help or advice
Thanks
I'm gonna remove them off of my Impreza. But on a GTR I wouldn't take it off. That GTR emblem is more than just a badge. It's a symbol.
Carlos Diaz what impreza do u have
Aloha_gamer I'm guessing a bug eye
People like to steal Emblems. Not to mention they could be painting it.
Carlos Diaz except this car is garbage. the only real gtr is the r34
Aloha_gamer: He doesn't have one. he is subscribed only for girls like some wanking nerd. i bet he doesn't even have a car :D
This video was very helpful and in super good quality. Not to loud, not to low. Back ground noise not loud and his voice is at the right volume. Great video
Point to note with burns: don't use ice to treat. It creates secondary burns.
Use cool running water.
Additionally: don't take a GTR badge off!
That’s a Nissan badge
Best thing for that kind of burns? Tothpaste. Any brand.
This guy need practice the basics of safety: gloves and goggles when work.
@@Motoplugg he do take off the GTR badge as well. Looks dope without the badges
I would move the gt r emblem where the Nissan emblem sits.
Exile I was thinking the same thing.
+Exile It's been done quite commonly here in Singapore. Here, people even replace the front Nissan badge with the GT-R badge as well.
+Exile Yeah that would look tight
Galleon Chua there is no Nissan badge in the front. Only nissan logo on GTR is on the back trunk door
extremely helpful video! You've been detailing your lawn mower it seems.
Come on bro don't make fun of his honda.
He'd say it's V-tec powered.
it's depend of what's the car you have, you have probably a car like corolla and its normal to not remove the badge for better look!

1) Floss badge off
2) Buff off foam and adhesive with WD40 on clean towel.

Very good job 👍
i thought it be held with pins.. thats interesting it isnt
I think the most cars these days are held in by adhesives ~15-20 pound strength, so really it doesn't make much sense to use pins
well he just took it off with hot air and a string lol strength is meaningless lol
Clearly you missed the point of my statement.

+merrick behnke It would hurt. It would put more scratches in the paint. You can to get it off faster but then you'll have to buff longer to remove the scratches inflicted by the plastic razor.

Hey a easier way to get the glue stuff off is magic eraser
kenny sinanan Ok cool. Good tip :)
I wouldn't use magic eraser because its abrasive.
kenny sinanan That's a horrible idea. Have you seen what a magic eraser does to paint?!!
try something called a toffee wheel
I would just stick to the video
in the body shop we use a product called a toffee wheel on a drill to remove the residue, no scratches and just needs a light polish afterward
People should not do that to a gtr :,(
Instead of removing the left over goo, after removing as much as you can, I used a medium grade clay bar with clay lube.

Sorry to sound like an idiot here but is that regular wd40 that you use on locks etc or wd40 degreaser? Or either? Thanks
I used vodka to clean the gunk off the carmax lettering. Thanks for the videos, I've learned a lot.

some people want a clean look
Looks more customized just for the look you know . Kinda more unique in a sense
And also in certain cases you would have to take off the badges to put a aftermarket

iJamie8467x Larry isn’t a mechanic, he’s a professional detailer
I never needed a heat gun to remove an emblem- just floss - I only used a heat gun to gently warm the new emblem to stick on the car-
Why would you remove Emblems of the Car?
Gablox -Roblox Gameplays- to maybe put one on thats a different colour

Can you use Goo-Gone to remove the adhesive residue?
1min video over extended so much.
WD-40 will remove the emblem adhesive with no scratches or staining. It works fantastic.
Look at the way the trunk moves, shitty materials car manufactures use these days smh
I noticed. I thought he had the trunk open :/.
Yeah, trunk was open.
So i was correct? The trunk was open? or he didn't close it correctly.
Great video. It would be awesome if you did a follow up on removing badges from plastic/rubber areas. I have a Front emblem I plan on removing and trying to gauge how long heat should be applied when it is affixed to plastic rubber surface of car. I imagine it’s much less time than metal for applying heat.
