Electric bikes in the city work. Outside maybe also, but it depends on where you have to go and how far it is. I would not drive far in the mountains etc. when you don't know where to charge it.
I have a Maxima that has less than 26,000 miles on it. Already spent about 7grand on repairs, and still needs another $200 or so for aesthetic fixes. I consider it a masterwork in engineering obsolescence. Maybe I just got wildly unlucky and they don’t suck.?
My 1995 Toyota Tercel that is made in Japan and I have owned for 19 years with 456.000 miles is still my daily driver and still very dependable. Engine transmission never touched still original fuel pump alternator and starter and AC compressor still blowing cold. That was true Japanese quality. No stupid computers sensors and modules like today
Qc in food is terrifying, I worked in 3 food plants only mlf i'll eat, absolutely the worst company I ever worked for but they take food safety to another level, could have something to do with killing 23 people but they took it seriously, not like the bastards at boeing 346 people killed, ah no big deal
@@manaaalsuwaidi3643 I agree with you, most of the cars of this model you will not see on the street and I will not sell them to anyone no matter what happens and I will keep them.
I worked in automotive engineering for several years, the government’s unrealistic emissions regulations forced Toyota to make smaller engines that are turbocharged. Buy slightly older vehicles with previous V6 & V8 engines for now. I own a RX450h V6 & GX460 V8, both are amazing 👍
This affects all companies in the US. Why is Toyota the primary example right now? Why isn’t everyone else having the same issues on this scale and with this many models?
2006 Mazda 3 here with 153k on it. Crank windows and no power locks either. Great car and still runs like new. With the radio off on a good set of Fireston tires it still has ZERO rattles or noise going down the road too. Keeping this heap until it finally does stop running. Never had a single problem yet though in 18 years.
This is not just aToyota problem. It's a complexity problem. The more complex the vehicle in terms of drivetrain, electronics, computers, luxury items, the more quality issues will arise. It happened with Mercedes in the late 90's. BMWs, VW. Even Honda quality dropped when the bells and whistles increased.
It is an EPA problem. Tell me a 2007 Toyota ANYTHING doesn't run perfectly. Let the government get their hands in it and it all goes sideways. See also: Direct Injection. OMG! No, we don't need the valves lubricated on each explosion. Good effing god.
Never buy the first edition when a car company changes everything including the drivetrain ...... The buyer is the R/D for the company doing it for free
Its not that its a first production line models before they got the tolerances tweaked just right on a new model or something. The problem now is that theyre too expensive too unrelibale too expensive and too cheaply made
Much of the issues boil down to the ever-increasing complexity of vehicles. As another Scotty said, "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
Yep who asked for a smart car? I had everything turned off don't need the steering wheel fighting me when it's following temporary construction lanes! It's gonna get us killed
Great engine! Had a 79 pickup that ran like a top. Got rid of it due to rust but had almost 300k miles and only put a water pump on it. Guy bought it for the engine. I miss that truck.
It cant last forever they shouldve just never stopped making those like suzuki dr650 just kept selling that particular model never stopped rarely tweaked never changed
@@fishordie1992 wait, you miss a vehicle that rusts? I would rather buy a car with annoying and expensive electronic problems than a car that rusts and is blatantly unsafe. Good props for getting rid of it
yeah, dealers are constantly calling me to sell them my 2011toyota and 2017 Toyota i told them i am never selling them i don't want the new junk they make.
They will underpay you so they can overcharge the next buyer whilist sitting in the middle acting like theyre helping us both. If you got a 7500 dollar honda, the dealer gonna pay 3900 if youre lucky they want to do half, they will sell it for 8000 9000 when in reality you lose a fortunenthey made a fortune and each end got screwed so if you list it on craigslist, there i will be offering 5000, 6000, cash, and we cut out those retards in the middle who are trying to pay their corrupt mismanaged pension fund off us and you get more money for your car and I pay less we each win and the idiots screwing us lose.
Yes. According to the news. They were telling that mechanics were recommending not to buy any car above a 2020 model in all cars. Citing different mechanical problems, and software, and chip problems. Currently I have an eleven year old Honda which I'm planning on keeping because of the current state of car manufacturing problems.
@@johnbjorkman4144it was my understanding that they were not made in China. The chip problems had to do more with not having the proper materials that were used in the manufacturing process. The Chips Act that passed a little over a year ago is supposed to bring back chips manufacturing in America. And cars are supposed to be better in 2026 as far as buying a car that won't have the aforementioned problems.
@@johnbjorkman4144most earths worthwhile chips are made in taiwan and usa. People dont want china chips south america doesnt do much chip factory africa sure isnt
I worked at their engine plant in Alabama it was the worst place I've ever worked at none of the employees knew about engines each engine is touched by 200 hands and since none of them know about engines when something gets left off or damaged no one catches it
Toyota & Honda. Your quality went down considerably when you brought the manufacturing process to America to avoid tariffs. However, for some reasons American manufacturing lacks the Quality Control that Japanese Manufacturing still has in place. All of these recalls and engine & transmission problems are coming from vehicles made in America, not Japan. WHY IS THAT??? Has American auto manufacturing which used to be top quality now become third world quality?? Just asking.
I got 07 Corolla. 170k miles. Both Alternator and A/C Compressor both went out this year. Normal lifetime is around 10 years for those parts. Got 17 years - Quality 🏆🎖
@@plainsman9717 That’s why I said to check back in 200,000 miles. Then the car will be at 250,000. That’s about when some problems show up. But they should make it 300,000. With proper maintenance.
The new Landcruiser 300 series V6 diesel twin turbo has conrod bearing failures reported here in Australia. Particularly if they are towing at higher speeds for long periods. An engine rebuilder shows a video comparing the bearing sizes between the old V8 twin turbo and the new engine. The new ones are almost half the width, the new engine produces more power and torque. 🇦🇺
I bought a 2003 Tundra V-6 used in 04. I replaced the timing belt in 2010, the door latches in 2022, the drivers seat belt latch, 2 weeks ago. Forgot one, replaced the alternator in 23. In 2013, I bought a 2013 Corolla S new. I replaced the alternator the same day I replaced the alternator in my Tundra. That's the only thing that really broke on that car in a 150,000 miles.
I would also partially blame the EPA for tightening their standards. If they were looser, Toyota would probably still be making their legendary V8 engines
You should read more about engine torque and efficiency. The V8 is one of the least efficient designs in automotive history. Instead of thinking about impressing hot rod guys, consider the economical and reliability possibilities. A 2 liter 3 cylinder engine in a 2000 pound compact FWD truck would get 45mpg and have a range no Tesla will come close to. We haven't ever had a correct car industry because EPA didn't have enough influence. Influence from actual engineers. Let go of the V8 fantasies. It's kinda on the verge of a rainbow 🌈 golf clubhouse group showers kinda thing to still obsess about V8 and big displacement.
@@Greg-io1ip Efficiency is overrated. Long term reliability with performance is more important. Forced induction(turbocharging/supercharging) is totally unreliable, more complicated, requires more expensive care, maintenance & repairs. Production of naturally aspirated large displacement engines like V8 needs to continue forever. Dont even try to begin using climate change is as next reason because its fake.
This is why I've always said to never buy a new car in the first couple of years after a major redesign--whether it's a Toyota or any other brand. It always takes a couple of years to work all the kinks out. Always let others be the guinea pigs!
I have a 1998 Camry 4 cylinder that i replaced the timing belt and water pump at 250,000 miles. Now has 270,000. Runs like a new one. I just bought a 2012 Lexus RX 350 with 109,000 miles. I believe it will run forever.
I’ve decided to pretty much keep our 2021 Highlander forever. I have no desire for a 4-cylinder, much less a turbo. I have no idea why Toyota tried to change what was a winning drivetrain. The only Highlander I could buy is a ‘22 with less mileage. Sad.
I think you might have that dreaded 8-speed in it. Good luck with it once the problems start. That solenoid pack was over $2000 to replace it a couple years ago. Hopefully you got a good one.
Welcome to government control over what they think will save the planet... Yeah, like how they classified SUV's and crossovers as "trucks" so manufacturers could avoid stricter emissions on cars. It's all a plan that lobbyists did to change engines for planned obsolescence. Corporations just want society as a endless money river where we, the people, own nonthong and lease/rent till we die.
Theyre liars because they do price alterations up and up and up no one buy car they cut price low and low no one buy car now its last year model. These guys are idiots. Fee thisncharge that service this
The 2nd vehicle I ever bought is a 1991 22RE, 2wd, 5 speed, Extra Cab and it sits in my garage under a cover. Bought it new on March 12 1991 for $12,300. 58,358 miles on it. I've always had company trucks to drive.
Sold my 3rd gen 4Runner with almost half a million miles on the odometer, because I was getting the 5th. 3rd gen engine run like a clock, very quiet. It was a great truck.
if you back into a parking space, you are more alert at that moment because you can see where you are going and any obstacles you will encounter - you concentrate on what you are doing.. Walk away and come back in two hours; now you can see and more apt to avoid an accident. Always try to park where you can drive forward when you leave.
Toyota IS different than anyone else!! They just make mistakes SOMETIMES.... Unlike other car manufacturers who make mistakes EVERY 5-6 years when introducing a new car model! 😉
We have a 2021 Highlander and a 2020 C-HR. My C-HR was made completely in Japan. We get calls from the dealer regularly asking if we want to sell them, nope.
When I was a kid, I inherited my sister 77 Corolla. The brown painted faded completely. I put some bigger tires on it used it off-road then would get on the highway. I 95 Route 62 all in Texas and open it up and get to 110 miles an hour. Had over 300k miles and would get a 2 gear scratch on the way up to 110mph everytime.
My daily driver is my 1985 Toyota Pickup that I bought in 1986. The old 22RE is still humming along but the body is losing the battle with rust. 40 years on the stock engine was a good run. I doubt any of the Turbo 4's will still be running in the year 2064.
Some TH-cam guy commented that he knows someone who works at the Toyota factory, he said they don't have skilled old timers and the crankshafts were made with too tight a fit with the main bearings, so they're idiots and didn't check blueprints and motors are tearing themselves apart.
The air conditioning system on our 2021 Highlander went 6 months after the warrantee expired. We had about 50,000 km on it. Cost of fix was over $3000 Canadian
I am NOT a CVT fan, BUT; I own a 19 Corolla SE, 153,617 mi., and it is a CVT. Not an exciting car, but gets me to work and beyond and so far, I've only changed brakes, coolant, oil, and CVT fluid, battery, spark plugs, and tires on it. No issues, just preventative maintenance.
The hybrids use eCVTs. It is not the same thing and doesn't use a belt that can wear out. It uses electric motors and a planetary gear that's basically going to never wear out. Most people say it's going to be one of the transmissions that last the absolute longest. You can criticize that it might sound or feel weird to you, though.
@@Gondus I tell people this all the time! For me a cvt is a hard pass... The Toyota eCVT really does have the most potential for longevity... I'll know Toyota is truly doomed when they start finding ways to cheapen, I mean perform cost reductions on the eCVT!
There is no replacement for displacement. Tacoma needed to stay with the 4.0 liter and Tundra needed to stay with the 5.7 liter. The small high output engines will not last.
Bought a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE. Never have had a major problem. 128,000 miles. Great, great car and the dealership is professional and competent. Never buying American.
When I bought my 2016 Toyota 4Runner, I thought it looked like an angry Transformer robot. I hated the "flower" wheel design, too. Who knew, this version of the 4Runner would become THE 4Runner to buy in 2024?
Not built in Japan. Trudeau selling workers pot! See em using on the job 35 years ago. Only gonna get worse. Pot, repetitive work, cheap wages, bad combo!
Keep my 30 year old Ciera running. It was Dad’s last car. Replaced all the usual stuff. Electrically it had some challenge 5 years ago. Ended up being the wiring harness from the electronic control module. Other pigtail connectors on sensors have had to be replaced. Most recent was the 3x crank position sensor, the 2nd one on the firewall side of the motor.
Price of used cars is going to continue to skyrocket as manufacturers continue to manufacture junk and at the same time escalate prices to cover for incompetency
This is what he ignored in the video. Toyota REPAINTED my 4runner 8 years after I bought it because the paint started chipping years after I bought it.
@@ramaswamynarayanaswamy4806 I think that's a new one. Mine was several years ago and if I remember what I read in the recall it was actually a recall to ensure customer satisfaction. I mean, it was almost all cars painted a specific color so not a great look for paint to be chipping off when many of those cars lasted 300k miles otherwise.
Bought a ‘24 4Runner TRD ORP. Peak Toyota. Simple, reliable, and will last me 20 years with good maintenance. Hate to see what’s happening with the newer Gen trucks.
7:55 So why don't they put a simple 3 speed manual transmission in electric cars? If you could drive 1st gear to 65 but up shift to lower RPM's, that seems like a good thing.
I have a 2023 Tundra non-hybrid and 0 problems at 20k miles. My husband works for Toyota and I’m so glad we have stuck with them. They always fix their issues. Any new redesign has problems to work out for the first couple of years. His coworkers all drive yotas. I don’t know any dealership in which 90% service employees drive the brand in which they work. We had a 18’ expedition max limited for 1 year and it was in our driveway about 1 month out of that whole year of ownership. Longest list of issues and dealer only fixed tranny. Such a joke. When engine fan started running excessively we traded at our dealership for the new tundra and are so happy we did. Expy overheated the next day. Lol
I have a friend that bought a 2024 Corolla and lifetime warranty through the dealer. They said don’t bring it in for 10,000 miles. I said that’s ridiculous. Change it every 5000 the dealer wants them to bring it in for 10,000 miles. I heard other stories about that that’s why the motors are blowing up metal shavings 😂
That's only turbo engines. And yeah, I got a 2024 corolla made in japan, they said the same thing about the oil, hell with that, I change it much more often ohan that
You change the oil in any vehicle no matter what it is at 3,000 miles and you only use full synthetic oil. Why is it so hard for people to understand. Why do people think that they are smart and can go more than 3,000 miles between oil changes? All you are doing is making sure that your engine does not last as long as it would if you change the oil more often
@@kenshinhimura9387you’re low iq if you’re doing 3k interval changes on oil for a hybrid 😂 , I own a brand new hybrid crown and I do it every 5k with amsoil full synthetic, the oil is just fine and can go longer actually You’re just wasting money now lol
The way the oil market has always worked is having not enough oil, even just a little, causes a major increase in prices. And just a little too much oil causes the price to crash.
My 2011 Toyota sienna v6. At 475k miles. Still running super nice with original engine, transmission and ac compressor. Of course I have to replace other stuffs to keep the van running nice.
I've got a 2010 rav4, 4 cylinder base model. Just hauled a closed trailer across canada, much of it against heavy wind... Took it like a champ, the engine idles so smooth pedestrians don't even know when I'm directly behind them, patiently waiting to pass
I got a 2024 prius le, the car is essentially the same as prior models. Very small differences in the motor and hybrid system. Also a bigger battery with 10 year warranty from toyota. Cant go wrong with a taxi car 😂
I rarely laugh out loud from anything I watch. You win. Your german accent in this video talking about parking caused my to laugh out loud! You could have a comedy video routine of that!
Employment is strong. Because an industry slows and lays off people doesn’t mean the economy is weak. Other industries are growing. Adapt or die in a free market economy. Unfortunate for some for sure.
would love to see comparison of recalls and quality control between Japanese made vs American/baja-california made Toyotas. 100% believe issues can be sourced to US manufacturing
I paid Au$30,000 for my '22 Corolla hybrid. It's a lot of money, but I'll save about Au$3500 per year on fuel, compared to my last car, that was a petrol Camry. They don't really make "basic" Corollas any more. A lot of the features that only came with Lexus' are now standard on Camrys and Corollas. For example, forwards camera for lane guidance and front facing radar for collision avoidance come standard now. I wouldn't be surprised if rear facing radar is now standard, too. (for reversing.) There are a few other features they've added in too, including a sports interior. That used to cost a couple of grand more. My Corolla actually has a lot more features than a friend's ten year old Lexus has.
We have a 2019 CX5 that I really like but my wife wanted to go back to a larger car, which I hate, but we looked at the Highlanders. We had one but to me it handled like a boat. When I saw the new ones have a 2.4 liter turbo it seemed more like a motorcycle engine than a SUV. I don't like hybrids because of their weight and complexity. Oh well, my 2000 Tundra only has 110,000 miles and runs like a Swiss watch.
Scotty, I took your advice and bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma because it was the last one with the V6. I did not want the two turbo four-cylinder. Do you know of any issues that I might have with this truck? Thanks a lot for all your hard work, sir.
Got a 2023 v6 .. have a weird noise (rattle/knock) along some vibration that happens time to time very concerning. dealer can’t recreate the issue .. says it’s fine. seems to happen when going uphill and when gently accelerating but I can’t recreate it either just happens. Another thing less worry-some .. is the gear hunting but seems to get better over time maybe getting used to drivers patterns.
@@Dbyoutube-w8v exhaust rattle? Ive had numerous cars that vibrate going up hills. Check your engine mounts, or exhaust manifold right through to tailpipe.
Scotty, long time viewer, have enjoyed your videos. Ok, what’s the deal, you just did a video on the tundra and gave it a positive review, you said great things about the tundra. This video was one year ago, now you’re saying that v6 is no good. What if I bought a Tundra a year ago based on your positive review, and now your video would make me kick myself for buying this car, what’s the deal?
If people have a modern car with backup cameras and other safety features. But still cause accidents backing up at 2mph in a parking lot.... they shouldnt be aloud to drive or exist for that matter.
I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and planned on having it for the remainder of my life. Last year I noticed that the right front tire was tilted inward. Checked the frame and observed a big hole in it. Contacted Toyota and--even though the frame on my truck was the subject of a recall--they refused to honor it. I am having some plates welded to the frame to fix it for limited driving, but I would never buy another Toyota.
I finally fixed the quality issues, at least windshield wise for my 23 4runner. Had to use hush mat tape all over the plastic cowl and I discovered a black wire was pinned between the headliner and windshield. Dealership kept saying nothing was wrong. I pushed it back in with a trim tool and at last...my windshield doesn't sound like it was put on with elmers glue. I just hope the replaced needle bearing doesn't go bad again with 4x4 use in the winter. I wish they had used ball bearings on both sides of the front differential!!
I bought a 2020 tacoma new and the white paint started coming off at 4 years. Toyota sent me a letter saying they would fix but then they refused to fix it. Sold it and bought a Tesla Model Y. 4:28

Toyota & Honda. Your quality went down considerably when you brought the manufacturing process to America to avoid tariffs.

I dont think there is any manufacturer making quality reliable vehicles these days.
I would also partially blame the EPA for tightening their standards. If they were looser, Toyota would probably still be making their legendary V8 engines
Thank you. California can do what they want, why do we all have to use their stupid rules?
You should read more about engine torque and efficiency. The V8 is one of the least efficient designs in automotive history. Instead of thinking about impressing hot rod guys, consider the economical and reliability possibilities.
A 2 liter 3 cylinder engine in a 2000 pound compact FWD truck would get 45mpg and have a range no Tesla will come close to.
We haven't ever had a correct car industry because EPA didn't have enough influence.

The hybrids use eCVTs. It is not the same thing and doesn't use a belt that can wear out. It uses electric motors and a planetary gear that's basically going to never wear out. I rarely laugh out loud from anything I watch. You win. Your german accent in this video talking about parking caused my to laugh out loud! You could have a comedy video routine of that!
US economy booming? Did I miss something? How can it be booming with poverty through the roof, and massive layoffs happening every month?
two tier society
it is booming for local police and teachers invested in prison and war making plants
@@dampergoldenrod4156 War making plants? I bet that doesn't include many Boeing's factories...
Employment is strong. Because an industry slows and lays off people doesn’t mean the economy is weak. Other industries are growing. Adapt or die in a free market economy. Unfortunate for some for sure.
@@SamuelBalsama OnlyFans isn't an industry. It produces nothing but gooners.
would love to see comparison of recalls and quality control between Japanese made vs American/baja-california made Toyotas. 100% believe issues can be sourced to US manufacturing
$30k for a basic Corolla...screw that!
@jublywubly We bought a brand new Sentra a few months ago. It has the features you mentioned and cost $21.5k
Change the oil every 5,000 and keep up routine maintenance and y should get 300k.
@ thank you
@ thanks brother
But still cause accidents backing up at 2mph in a parking lot.... they shouldnt be aloud to drive or exist for that matter.
excellent show today
I bought a Crown Signia. I suspect they have that engine, battery and motors, and eCVT figured out. And built in Japan.
Car care nut approved 👍
I got the crown sedan , limited version , love it so far , already 20k miles , avg 38.1
Driving my brand new Tacoma TRD Offroad Premium today, its a great truck!
I didn’t know Scotty is an energy expert now
I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and planned on having it for the remainder of my life.
We need to remove patents so that people like Scotty can make us a car that is beyond reliable
Because we blew up the Northstream pipeline and we’re not the good guys
I bought a 2020 tacoma new and the white paint started coming off at 4 years. Toyota sent me a letter saying they would fix but then they refused to fix it. Sold it and bought a Tesla Model Y. 4:28
