- Build orders are essential for improving in Age of Empires 2 and now there is an interactive build order guide to help you practice. In this video I highlight the "23 pop archers" build order which is a great starting point for newer players. I play using the guide myself to give you all an idea of what it's like. Admittedly, the grading system can be pretty unforgiving, so I recently made some changes to make it less harsh (this would now score a C - the FC, Knights would've gotten an A.)
Here, it was just about being too slow to get those first 6 archers out.
Man, I've been doing them and it's true they seem harsh but that pushes you to get better, practice more and improve. So IMO they are fine and makes it even sweeter when you get the As
Exactly - its intended to force you to really think about how you could have done better. The very top grades are still just as difficult as before.
The score is not about also the total points? If i scout more nothing change?
No - just based on the timings that you hit the benchmarks
@@cicero8676 Thanks for your great scenarios! Do you think you could add the "build a house" in there? Also, I seem to have problems on HD where the scenario won't end regardless of the number of required units I get, or sometimes it ends when i have more than what is supposed to be required. It does seem to work perfectly on voobly seeing the youtubers do it.

These guides have helped me a ton get back into the game.
I love these videos because it really give me a good idea why early aggression is so important and destabilizing. It takes a lot of attention to balance the eco for certain builds so harassing the other other player can really throw them off balance causing a snowballing advantage. Thanks T90!

@@Darfail Depends on your start, if your villagers are done building 2 houses but you still haven't find any sheep, send these vills to get wood from one of these straggler tree until you've find sheep.
You missed the most important step where you travel to a neutral island to build your ranges on

@T90Official if it's possible, I would REALLY like to see this for AOE2DE. You can add a mouse and keylogger, so you can show which button you press at any given time. So if someone gets confused, they can go back and see what button you've pressed.

I'm suprised you are doing this one to be honest. You yourself said you don't like archer build because it takes too long to mass them. Also I would love to see a Drush or Trush strat involved in these, since it will help you learn how to transition from one strat to another.

Also with the extra wood it will, like you said bail you out, but also bail you out if your opponent lames you or it takes way to long to find all your sheep and piggies xD

I've done this build order about 25-30 times ; I only recently got 3 Es in a row, and now I'm back to Fs.

The idea is to get this many Archers and then click up to Castle Age. During the time they travel to the enemy town you'll likely Age-up, and then you can immediately upgrade to Crossbow, (+ Bodkin Arrow if you can afford it), while you're harassing their wood line or gold Villagers.
isn't that wheelbarrow upgrade with only 11 on farms way too early ?

These build orders are very helpful but if the oponent rushes you it will set you back big time. Like if the other guy sent 8 skirms for example to deal with your archers all that wood and gold would be wasted D:
Getting back into this game after a long hiatus. Played the original back in the late 90s/2000s and then got the HD edition when it was released. Now I'm on the Definitive Edition and trying to remember how to play again. What is the point of leaving the sheep for last? I am trying to find out various things I see a lot of folks do. For the most part I open the same way as you do but I tend to collect all the sheep meat first then get boars then get the wild game.
You gather faster from hunting than you do from herdables
Only one I ever got an A+ once on was the fast castle unique unit one. Basically did the build order perfectly but clicked with one less vill and managed still to hit castle right away. On Hd tho the curve from A+ to D is way too quick

I got the DE build order and the best I ever get is B's. Most of the time it's C.
@T90 britons can go 5 on sheeps at the start
So i tried the fast castle Knight for about 90 min (restart after getting the rating)
I failed miserably and got an F everytime...
I now feel so bad again that i dont feel competent enough to even play in the voobly beginner lobby.

Is it recommended I need to build 2 lumber camps? Wouldn't it be better use of wood to just build one and sort of wall it around with houses? Is it to make it harder to be attacked and not have any wood income or does it make the wood gathering more efficient from the villagers bumping less? I'm used to always fast castling so just curious!

@@caseynelson9955 Go to mods and search interactive build orders. Once installed, it should be a set of custom scenarios you can play in single player.

Most people play on Voobly with Wololo Kingdoms and not HD. If you have HD you can play on Voobly.

wheelbarrow is not something you should research until at least 45 villagers.
How on earth is a D pretty good? It's one step up from the worst grade you can get...

It's farms that aren't placed where they should be, because of either being rushed and building them too fast or neglecting to correct misclicks

These build guides are good, but they have small issues and the grading system is wayyyyyyyy too harsh.
What do you want, a participation trophy? Get better to get better grades. That's the idea isn't it?
Narcoleptic or you know actual feedback when I cut down my feudal time by 2 minutes and still get an F because the dev only gives out 10 second intervals between grades.
T90 got a D, I wouldn't be worried about getting an F. This is to learn, not to make you feel better over an arbitrary letter.

My biggest weakness seems to be that my build is always a little slow and that I'm a kind of "shy" player, if thatm akes any sence. xD Maybe I'm calculating too much into late game, but trying to get a fast imp isn't 100% stupid. Right?

when do you go in to archers en when in to knights? i'm always having trouble deciding wich troops i go for
I think it depends On your civ and the enemy civ.
Like dont go Archer if you are vs british. Or go Scout/Knight when you can reach feudal or castle faster than your opponent.
(Everyone feel free to correct me. Kind of a noob here)
In 1v1, there can be many situations where different units shine, and it is very difficult for one to just spell all of those situations out, but it REALLY DEPENDS on how the game pans out - Civ matchup, your map, your enemy's map, what you scouted your enemy's doing, what you did (how to patch up the weakness of your existing army), map control and so on. You may have some strats set in mind, but what the enemy does heavily influences your strats and vice versa. I'd suggest you watch more casted matchups to learn about these situations (even then it is still difficult). It is better to see some samples than just talk about theories in this case.
In TGs it is much simpler though. Usually flank goes archers pockets goes knights.
