- Build orders are essential for improving in Age of Empires 2 and now there is an interactive build order guide to help you practice. In this video I highlight the "Scouts into Archers" build order which is a great starting point for newer players. I play using the guide myself to give you all an idea of what it's like. 4:00 The tutorial says to take one of the villagers off boar to lure the second one - since the timing can depend on the distance of that boar.
Of course if you prefer, you can go 3 on berries, 1 lure boar, +1 on berries - especially if it means you are less likely to forget that second boar.
The most hilarious thing would be to have Dave question everything you do while trying to get an A in one of those build order video ^^

Hahaha thats the only build order that truly matters.
For the next Build Order guide you record I suggest that you turn on "economic" map to see villager spread in resources, instead of not very useful score (in the context of the video of course). Thank you for the vid, helps for us noobs.

Playing as Britons this would give you an element of surprise, as most players would probably assume you'll spam Barracks units alongside archers, not Stable units.

These videos are great learning tools,. But I did this and have knights in my face when I'm researching castle lol. But it's good for 1v1

T90 this BO really slowed down my castle age upgrade and it's easy for enemy to defend it
Should slow down castle to roughly 20 mins, true, but you say that like it's always bad. Sometimes it can be far better to get some early aggression going and slow your opponent down more. Other times you are being rushed and it's better to build defensive units than rush to age up. As far as enemies being able to defend it... That comes down to adaptability. While I can't claim to be great at this myself, you want to be constantly scouting and getting information your opponent to constantly counter his army. You don't plan your entire army composition from the start, you instead determine the next thing to transition into based on your opponents base, army, etc. For example, you might be playing Huns so scouts is a natural start, so your opponent plays a little heavier into spear/scout defense. You then add some archers to fight off scouts. You then have to decide whether to keep producing archers and stay in Feudal or rush castle age and get upgraded crossbows. It's a game of counters, and you shouldn't expect a single BO to work every time.

This basically forces you into extended Feudal fight. Your goal is to pressure with 10 scouts and all those archers. If you manage to kill, or force enemy villagers off of resources, your economy at home is safe, you will get to Castle first. An enemy will have to tower, wall, and/or build his own units to defend. This will slow them down as well. It's a balance; your hoping to do more damage and disruption than if you just put all those resources into economy.
This is also pretty good strategy if you are flank player in a team game (Flank = super close to enemy player, so you will have to fight early rather than just boost economy and go Fast Castle).
This would be a better build order if it didn't tell you to build so many units before castle. The idea behind this build is to disrupt the enemy in feudal. This video seems to be making an attempt to end the game in feudal... One way or the other... This is by far my least favorite build order.

If you download Cicero's build order mods, go to Multiplayer and select "Scenario" as game. The rest is pretty usual, or were you talking about something else? :-)
The part with the berries and second boar is confusing, but I think it means take a vil off boar 1 and send him to boar 2. Meantime send 4 (new) vils to berries.
I got general question to do with recovery when being housed, which doesn't seem to be covered by the tutorials. When you get housed is it better to wait until your villagers build the house and then have the TC continue creating vils, or should you perhaps use the time to research loom earlier?

So why farm in dark ages isn't the vanilla generic gather rate hierarchy this (assuming little/no walking)? fishers > hunters > shepherds > farmers > foragers. (This doesn't count the build time of the farm or the wood costs of the farm, when adjusted it is at the bottom)
I think you are supposed to lure the second boar with a boar vil from under the TC, not a new vil - thats why the buildorder is seemingly off
I only get 4 sheep and one boar for some weird reason. Even used map reveal and looked carefully
The t90 farm meme is because you build crazy farms with lots of spaces not because you make too many t90 😂
Dude will you make some videos on how to respond to standard situations? like assume i am trying to do a fast castle into knights but get hit by a man at arms into archers or something, what should i do?

T90 commented on a similar situation. Use your scout to determine if he is rushing with man at arms then tower/wall your vils and add skirms as needed. Then counter with your knights.

Why build the 2 farms before all the sheep are used?
Noob here. What's the point of going to farms so early when you still have Berries + Sheep, and moreover don't have Horse Collar researched yet?
I have this exact same question. Farming rates are lowest (when adjusting the wood villager seconds and build seconds)
Next game, build order to making the perfect salmon, at least then you can't get housed

T90 would you go 6 on sheeps with britons regarding the sheppard bonus?
5 on sheep with brits is just fine. Really helps to go wood a bit earlier to allow for more flexibility with farm/barracks timing.
@@T90Official Thx man. That's what I thought too and it stinged when you said always 6 on sheeps :D there is always an exception.
Especially britons that are an archer civ. Could have mentioned in the video but its fine :)
I found out that if I put 6 on sheep with the Britons they usually eat it all before i can bring my boar to dinner. Which means idle time... Stop licking your fingers you mongrels and go back to work!
