**VIDEO SPOILERS BELOW** Frostpunk review, starting with what I liked: - This campaign has the greatest video game storytelling I have ever seen. In addition to good writing, the integration of story and gameplay was silky smooth. The player does not observe the story, the player IS the story. This ensures that no two first playthroughs are alike. The decisions are often analog, the outcomes are not spoon fed, and the immersion is never broken. I genuinely felt like I captained a city through a winter apocalypse. This intensity of experience can only be achieved through the video game medium. - The strategy is deep, yet accessible. I never felt overwhelmed learning the wealth of mechanics this game had to offer. There are thousands of decision points that can be tackled in several ways, and multiple strategies are powerful as long as you have a strong understanding of the basic principles. - The difficulty curve was masterfully done. I constantly felt at the edge of my seat, and managed to improve at the exact pace that the game got harder. The surprise story events add a perfect amount of difficulty increase at just the right time. Despite being unable to predict these events, I was always still capable of reacting to and solving them in the nick of time. - I love this game's take on morality. Coaxing a player to make more and more questionable moral decisions against their desires is an incredibly impressive feat. The overarching theme seems to be that poor morals are the crutch of an incompetent society. I had to pay for my incompetent decisions by building a propaganda center and legalizing snitching (pledge of loyalty), and those kept me from getting the morally good ending (I got the morally okay ending instead). Deciding whether to budge on morality was just as hard, if not harder than, the strategic decisions. I am amazed that I managed to make any morally good choices at all. Since playing, I have spent a lot of time thinking about the moral implications of my decisions. I realized that enacting both the propaganda center and snitching laws didn't feel bad because both are already a thing in my own country (albeit less sinister). I've been so normalized to them that I forget that an ideal society has a need for neither. Idealism is important because the lack of idealism only births a lower standard of idealism. All these moral implications make this game truly important. - The final boss was absolutely stunning. First, the existence of a boss battle in a city builder is insane, but it works so well. The music that plays during the Great Storm is perfect, and the entire week makes for a wonderful adrenaline-filled conclusion. - The music as a whole was fantastic, and the art style was beyond amazing. It really didn't feel like an indie game. - Cutscenes were great! They were short, they were infrequent, and they added a lot to the experience. There was not a wasted second. - Since this playthrough, I've been playing the other scenarios on harder difficulties in my free time. They've been a ton of fun and only added to my enjoyment. The main campaign was worth the price of admission alone, as the 5-12 hour runtime is more fulfilling than even 40 hours of other games. The additional free content is just the cherry on top. What I didn't like: - Overall rating: 10/10 (Flawless) Here are the plans for the future of the game: I will do a blind playthrough of The Last Autumn DLC around the time Frostpunk 2 reaches maximum pre-release hype. That playthrough should lead directly into Frostpunk 2's release, which I am unbelievably excited to make a series of. See you then! In the meantime, be sure to check out my Playlist of Playlists for more series that are just as thrilling! For another dramatic experience, I recommend Inscryption: th-cam.com/play/PLIwiAebpd5CKixzVYL4X4ZuPqiok-tfLG.html
Oh my GOD, A FLAWLESS RATING!!! also, Tyler there are a lot of people who support this series and we are very excited for Frostpunk 2 (especially your series) and were soo EXCITED!
I would love to see you tackle The Fall of Winterhome scenario. It has the perfect blend of "What the hell?", "How did this happen?", and "How am I supposed to fix this?".
According to the pin he's played the other scenarios already as this was prerecorded. He hasn't played through the Last Autumn and will be saving that for right before frostpunk 2 releases tho
Storm starts "I researched Houses guys" - Oh no. "Lets see. I have enough Medic Posts" - OH no. "I do not have the wall drill yet so there is literally no wood around" - OH NO! Looking back at this video and see all of this, you can kind of see right away that something has gone seriously wrong along the way.
Yes! Was hoping for more of this series tonight. I always stay up late to watch your new videos. You've easily become my favorite content creator over the past few years.
Well, good news, then. Aside from replay value due to higher difficulties/alternate decisions (which aren't very yourube friendly due to being mostly the same thing), there are three additional scenarios that are shorter, but involve unique challenges (such as buildings that cannot fall below chilly temperature or you lose, or starting with a failing city and needing to fix it fast). There is also an endless mode, two extra DLC scenarios, and a sequel on the way. Plenty of content for the channel should he decide to make it (some of which he already decided to make)
@@austinish The Last Autumn and On the Edge are the two major scenarios, The first puts you just before the snowfall and you have to build your own generator, and then survive with the generator that YOU built. On the Edge has you as a New London outpost after the great storm passes, so you get to enjoy living without a generator of your own.
@@DrRussian Those are the DLC scenarios, right? I dont have the DLC myself, which is why I didn't give any details about them (don't know any details to give)
12:50 gotta love that human spirit. It's -166 degrees out and yet people can still muster up enough strength to murder each other. Truly brings a tear to my eye.
"We've Gone too far" is actually the "bad end" for this game. Should have gone faith for an easier approach to the good end. It honestly shocked me that you went through so much of the game with no gathering posts. Those are some of the first structures wou should set down!
I managed to do an order good end. I was so proud of myself lmao. I didn't even pick foremen, the furfest I went in order was morning gathering/guard towers. I knew from my first playthrough that you could get bad endings, but I actually only got the neutral ending where you don't cross the line. It's a fucking amazing game and I cannot wait for the second game.
@@LulfsBloodbag iirc you can get the best ending (golden path) with either purpose law. It's just no faith keepers, no prisons, no propaganda, no prostitution etc and no endpoint laws signed like new order or public penance. Foremen are fine I believe. It's somewhat harder for order because it's more about managing discontent than raising hope so Londoners can be an issue, but perfectly doable
Top 5 all time game on this channel. I honestly waited like a 4 days to watch the first episode because I thought it didn't look super entertaining and was kinda confusing if I wasn't putting much of my attention into it. Once I watched the first couple episodes though I found it to really have me involved with the story even just watching you play. I'm so excited for number 2 and the DLC but if you want to make a video on this game beforehand I think many of us would love it

Whew. Talk about being on the edge of my seat. Super glad you shouted out this series in that episode of vampire survivors, I may have never checked it out.
Picked this series up because you suggested it in the Vampire Survivors episode. Purchased the game after 15 watching the 1st episode for 15 minutes. And I have to agree, this is the greatest narrative storytelling I've ever seen. I have no idea how you managed to survive the final storm with no outposts and no houses to begin with. Thank you so much again for suggesting this series. Hope to see Frostpunk 2 as well!
Just binged this series from the Vampire survivors video. I gotta say, the long form series content is harder to keep up with these days, but it is definitely worth it. That was an experience I do not regret, even if I ruined my sleep schedule again.
I purchased the game after watching your other episodes and some of the videos another creator did. While I went in with some advance knowledge, it was still very satisfying. I wound up doing the entire first scenario in 1 5 hour sitting. I didn't find it overly challenging, but that is mostly because I had seen a lot of how things worked in the game and I went hard on resource collection and heat. By the time the storm rolled in I had automations doing most of the work in my city so my population could sit in their comfy homes, didn't even turn on overdrive until the last drop. I look forward to the challenge of endless mode.
Of all the series you are currently doing, this is my favorite. I totally want to see more of this, endless or even the other game modes. It is so interesting and I will definitely watch the second game as you play it.
I'm very glad this series got enough viewership for it to continue. At first I did not like watching this because everything is hard to look at on a small phone, which is where I do most of my youtube watching, but after I started watching I realized that the tiny details are not super important, and I don't need to read each of the tiny little numbers on the screen to tell what's going on. After getting over that hurdle, I enjoyed this series greatly. Looking forward to more!
God, watching you play this was just as intense as playing it myself This game is amazing, whenever I start a run I can't stop until I reach the end or fall asleep from exhaustion lmao
