This one is short and sweet but genuinely a doozy. Children of the Omnissiah is a powerful piece full of reflective and melodic choral singing. Couple that with the organ, it really gives us the feeling of being in an unholy setting. It's ravishing in its use of the lower notes and basses while also giving us this feeling of coming face to face with out maker. Powerful piece by Guillaume David.

Bought this game. Really excited. Thank you steam sale 🎉
The Omnissiah is the literal Machine-God that the Adeptus Mechanicus believe in. The intro to Mechanicus should give you a very good understanding of how the machine cult thinks. ;)
I'd love to see your reaction to just seeing that intro for the first time.
Also, merry christmas :D
I really enjoyed it: make sure to have it higher up on difficulty.
The game is great. Granted its not the most complex trpg but its a very good game for starters but it realy dilivers on the setting and its "voice acting" all in all a pretty good start for newcomers and still much to enjoy for those of us that know a lot about the lore
Mechanicus is great and has an excellent ost.
A good buy, I just finished the game about month ago. The Mechanicus is one of my favorite factions in 40k and the game's lore is fascinating. If you like strategy you definitely won't regret it.

Yes and no, machine can be Immortal, but require spare parts and maintenance. And if brain die, machine would die too, and brain are too vulnurable to be perfectly protected
Unless you consider the biological brain to be optional when reconstructing...
Let's just say that strictly speaking...not all mechanicus members might be mere cyborgs...

So the song "Noosphere" you reacted to awhile back is from this same game. The Cult of the Omnissiah, better known as the Adeptus Mechanicus, is the Imperium of Mans technological heart, a cult where invention and creativity is heretical and banned, and a cult dedicated to becoming ever closer to the Omnissiah, the Machine God.
Hadron from Darktide is one of these Cultists, known to the Wider Imperium as Tech-Priests, with the higher ranks known as Magos or Magi. They manufacture and guard the designs of the mighty weapons the Imperium uses to wage war from Forge Worlds across the galaxy, from the humble lasgun to the mighty Titans, with the main home of the Cult being Mars, and the Cult is led by the Fabricator-General of Mars, who also sits on the Imperial High Council known as the High Lords of Terra.
Ah, a man of lore
if i did my homework correctly, the Omnissiah and the Machine God are diferents beings
The Mechanicus belive the Emperor is the Omnissiah, while the Machine God its an existence superior to him (namely it may be the Catan Fragment of the Void Dragon)
Big E, it's the prophet, the Mesiah of the Machine God that ironically seal him under Mars
@@eltincho2795 if i'm not mistaken the adeptus mechanicus believes system is based on the holy trinity (you know the father, the son and the holy spirit) in the case of the mechanicus it would be the machine god, the omnissiah and the machine spirits

Warhammer 40k is probably the most intriguingly absurd sci-fi/fantasy universe to delve into.
And by the Omnissiah, the music in the newer games is so incredibly good and atmospheric.
40k is grimdark post apo fantasy scifi xD
another scary part is theresquite a few things that you would think are absurd but arent that far off from possibility.
The music from angels of death is pretty awesome too.
@@firmak2 it's honestly the closest thing to realistic space scale than the vast majority of actual sci-fi, and this is wacky and dark space fantasy. Where average planetary populations would be in the quadrillions, and the average human life would be worth far less than the hand-me-down gear they've been given.
Yeah, I don't know why is WH40K considered "absurd sci-fi". I consumed a lot of sci-fi of various sub genres over the years, and apart from some cyberpunk settings (near future) and hard sci-fi (like the Expanse, again near future), WH40K is the most realistic representation of a far future and galactic scale I have ever seen in any setting.
True, warp and its associated gods and demons - not realistic. But everything else? More realistic than main settings of that scale, like Star Wars and Star Trek.
Its scale, the relation between various factions within the Imperium and outside of it, how everything functions... on point. Also takes into consideration more actual laws of physics and passage of time than any other far-future franchise, and delves deeply into the meaning of myth, what is to be a human, the importance of symbols and how things morph over time, how yesterday's practice becomes tomorrow's religion...
I know the setting came as a caricature of the Dune series and added some other sci-fi tropes, but in the end, it became the most captivating and realistic representations of a far future human society in pop culture. To call it absurd is to not recognize fully the terrible scale of the galaxy and humanity in it.
Hands down, my favorite sci-fi franchise. And grim dark are just the main stories we are given, as they represent the main conflict areas. The overall setting is not that dark. On many human worlds life goes on normally, they barely even know that there are demons, space marines etc. around, they just heard something about some Emperor somewhere that they "serve". Again, the galaxy is VAST! And WH40K represents that in an amazing way.
It's amazing seeing someone without the background taking so much of the atmosphere of Mechanicus just from the music. It's a testament to how amazingly well composed it is that it effectively conveys the Mechanicus faction. It's worth watching the intro to Mechanicus. It might have the strongest title drop in any videogame I have ever played and to this day the short intro speech is haunting and chilling in the best of ways.
Wow, he NAILED the vibes of AdMech. Fanaticism, devotion, barely-contained violence, a conversion from biological form to mechanical form...wow, he nailed it! I freaking love this song personally.
Even in death…I serve the omnissiah
It’s great to see Marco fall into the warhammer 40K rabbit hole of lore! It’s truly a deep and awe-inspiring hole indeed
Awesome as usual Marco!
It's a real testament to the composer that someone who's unfamiliar with the doctrine of the Cult Mechanicus was able to pick up pretty much exactly what the Adeptus Mechanicus is all about.
I tend to find myself listening to Children of the Omnissiah on loop while working in the shop (I'm a machinist). I find it helps me commune with the machines.

It pleases the machine spirits
I was outside in the summer grinding into some stainless steel & building a fire pit, had my wireless headphones in and 'Children of the Omnissiah' 30 minute version came on my youtube mix randomly. Best believe I listened to the whole thing as I was grinding away.
Did so when doing my first boot on the pc I built, can confirm it worked
When I built the predecessor to this PC back in 2016, I actually put purity seals on it, complete with hand-stamped wax seals.
Something I feel many people dont mention is that this song begins with a growing sense of "ancient wonder", but then instead goes for a very urgent organ piece, which I think stays in most other Mechanicus songs, they all have a sense of time running out. This makes perfect sense: this is the starting song for the game menu, when it's all just a routine expedition to plunder ruins for secrets... until the inhabitants wake up. Now the game is a literal race against the clock before the army of the Necrons wakes up and becomes a monumental threat to the Imperium.
Thus we invoke the Master of All Knowledge.

He got everything right about the Adeptus Mechanicus from this single track.
If he really inferred it all from the track, he's incredible at analyzing songs, also Guillaume absolutely nailed the soundtrack.
This man is the musical equivalent of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Roboute Guilliman combined into one gloriously bearded man.
I severely doubt he did. There's some things a bit too specific that he couldn't possibly have gotten just from the music alone that he somehow got 100%.
I think it's most likely he's seen bits and bobs from what's he's reviewing and inferred from small nuggets of info and the music to make a conclusion
@@uh-ohspaghettio7826 I mean its called the 'Adeptus Mechanicus', not exactly the most subtle naming scheme

Ok, but the fact that you perfectly described the Cult of the Mechanicus aka Adeptus Mechanicus just by listening to some music made for a game revolving around them is wild and doesnt just show how much experience you have but also of just how great a composer the artist is.
:) thank you! And yes he’s fantastic
I always thought of that super low rumble throughout the song as the whirr or growl of an engine, seeing as the worshippers of the omnissiah revere machinery. I can hear all kinds of sort of factory sounds in this song (not literally, but the feeling thereof). Although, I go at warhammer sound tracks and music from the perspective of someone who knows a whole load of lore for almost every faction
It definitely is impling great machinery moving. Kind of feels like a titan walking or some great forgeing hammer coming down on vast metal parts.
When your toaster started chanting
This goes to show what an amazing piece of music this is. This man, with supposedly no knowledge of the Warhammer 40K universe outside of Darktide, was able to decipher the essential lore of the setting.
1:51 thats why i love this guy, such an interpretation and breakdown, even he doesnt know about warhammer he still gets the feel througt the music
I once again urge you to also listen to "Warhammer: Mechanicus - Dance of the cryptek" for something different, the music of the necrons, enemies of the techpriests (or children of the omnisiah) it is my favourite piece, and goes a bit different than the rest of the game's music
Mine too although honestly all of Mechanicus's music is great, but Dance of Cryptek is my favorite. As you said it really fits the role of the Necrons and their enemy in this game the Tech-Priests of Mars. Then again I'm a huge Necron fan
2:07
it's weird to me to hear this described as "deep seated sense of discomfort", when i listen to this track on repeat i feel incredibly relaxed and at peace
There is this strange sense of awe and tranquility in pondering dark and dystopian settings. I like to listen to "blade runner atmosphere with city sounds" here on TH-cam. It too features occasional dystopian sci-fi sounds, but in a weird way evokes quite a contradictory feeling.
I feel like I'm floating through this strange, dangerous universe, but completely invisible and untouched by any danger. Maybe it's that contrast of danger yet safety, corruption yet holiness, dystopia yet tranquility, that somehow intrigues or inspires us.
@@holysecret2Once you accept death you can calmly face it
The glorious machinations of the Machine God bless us this day, Marco delivers once more! Praise be that he would choose to immortalize his exposure to this litany most sacred! In doing so, he shares with us his knowledge and too reinforces the Omnissiah's virtue within Holy-Terra's all encompassing networks.
With that out of the way, I'm quite glad you'd give this song a listen. It's a wonderful introduction to both the Mechanicus the game and the faction. I love the game and love its music even more. Notably, I hope you're still willing to give more of the soundtrack a listen. Caestus Metalican, for example, is the favorite of mine that no one mentions. Its the follow up to Children of the Omnissiah and I'd argue serves as the true prefix to the actual game. As such it provides a fully, more varied experience. Plus is simply an amazing song.
Also, regarding you saying "Is there to remind the humanity that existed", wanna hear a funny irony? The majority of Mechanicus do not believing in the shedding of humanity; and actively despise the notion. While they believe that through the machine they can ascend their decaying form, they firmly believe in the divinity of humanity as divined by the Omnissiah. So even if they completely augment themselves, doing away and replacing organs and replacing limbs with all sorts of mechanical augmentation, they still aim to keep a (relatively) human shape. In fact, most seem to merely replace the human frame with something more robust and then add on to, because to do otherwise is to spit in the face of the Omnissiah's most holy design, being the human body.
Though, arguably their belief in the divine human form is a superficial one, giving how utterly inhuman your average Techpriest is. The Cog-men are still far more cog than they are men.
Man, it is awesome how you can understand so much about the mechanicum just from listening to this one musical piece. Amazing what David managed to convey, but equally amazing what you pull out of it. Especially if as I hear you say you have no idea who the children of the omnissiah are supposed to be.
He is so on point everytime, is impressive How much música can convey
It's understandable tho, when you really dive into it. Music predates language. Language came from music, not the other way around! Language, is the music of understanding, one of which we all sing and dance in together in an amazing melody of different languages.
@@forgetfuldullahan5468 Beautifully said 👏
The fact you can discern so much about the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Cult of the Omnissiah from just the opening bit of this song is a testament to the quality of this composition. Absolutely incredible.
It's a wonderful strategy game similar to xcom! Love your take on this. The whole soundtrack for this game is absolutely wonderful, I used to listen to it before juries!
I Think that the rolling mass effect reaper-easque noise is also meant to convey the ultimate pride of mechanicus war machines, the Titans, some of which are literally walking churches, piloted by crews that are linked to them. every noise is a deliberate movement, a litany of las or plasma shots that with the power to melt cities and other titans. I love that these notes are not clear, they seem to come from far away, because titans engage from far far away.
It's almost hard to believe this guy knows nothing about 40k with how precise he was in picking up the factions themes and characteristics from nothing but musical context. It's really inspiring.
I always get a sense of stagnation from the muted sounds in this music, by far one of my favourite thing that came out of 40K
edit: I don't know how you choose the songs you react to, but if I may suggest some I recommend Pinnacle (Ascension) and Foreign Reach, both from The Ascent
I have to agree with you, I feel there is a real sense of sadness and loss from this music. The time of the Imperium's golden age is long past and the Adeptus Mechanicus can feel it too. So much knowledge lost, perhaps never to be recovered.
It's amazing what he gets right about the admechs from the song without knowing their lore
Or did he....
Oh YES! I have been imagining this and your reaction!
And i do agree, this song is surprisingly scary and inspiring with the feeling of faith and holiness. You feel the power of the faith the Mechanicus have.
But i also feel a bit of ‘playfulness’ in it. I’m probably colouring it with my own perception, but it reminds me of Donkey Kong County 2 music. The whole pirate adventure theme and all that, the feeling of exploration or adventure also feels there. A naive and childish feeling that just can’t leave my mind when this song plays.
It adds this feeling of careless adventure, something along the story about a bunch of kids playing with something they shouldn’t. Power’s they shouldn’t. But what’s the harm?
Maybe that’s because I played the game and am linking it all together, but it just stands out for me. It’s that feeling of timelessness like you said, you feel like it’s a story we all know… but get to hear again.
What you're getting at I think really conveys the Mechanicum's primary mission within the Imperium as a polity (not just a military)- to explore the galaxy and rediscover/catalogue as much technology from the Golden/Dark Age as they possibly can. People often find it weird that the Mechanicum is so closed to innovation and invention, but what need do they have for such things when all they would make already exists, waiting to be rediscovered in some ruins somewhere?

Hit the nail on the head!
I think a lot about what each faction is like, and typically judge them as their complete own culture and society. I mean… it’s basically what each legion is at the base roots.
I do wander into the relm of fantasy that would probably be outside of what actually happens, but i think we also forget the 30k era and what makes each faction unique.
Seeing the mechanicus as explorers just fits perfectly, i think it adds a real sense of ‘culture’ in a facton that isn’t direct zealotry. 40k wasn’t always war!
I love this song. It captures the beauty in the darkness of 40k very well. The greatest tragedy of the 40k setting is all of the potential you can see wasted on war and cycles of destruction. In this song it's captured by the soprano contrasted against the almost predatory machine growl of the lower notes. good stuff. Your comments about retaining humanity are also interesting given that the player controls the leader of the Mechanicus expedition's decisions and he often discusses how he as a commander refused to remove his empathy completely and still has emotional reactions to the deaths of those under his command.
Its cool that you can read this much into music and even more admirable that you can put it into words
That's a very nice thing to say
I will play this for my toasters before bedtime tonight. Very relaxing for the machine spirits. Also ya, Tech-Priest are pretty Zealous.... Actually a really good interpretation of the lore without any fore knowledge. The Tech Priest of Mars thing the flesh is weak and turn more machine as time goes on. They were once a forward looking technological people before the religious dogma of the Imperium turned them fully to the emperor's wars. Isn't the expressive power of music amazing?
Mars was a cult before the imperium. It just added the Emperor to the belief structure.
Bro if you really got the full mechanicum lore out of that song i i have no words xD ❤🎉
That's an excellent interpretation, with angles I hadn't considered yet either. Timelessness, menace, you are quite right, they are in there. What I find fascinating as well, is how this could be a hymn of mechanical glory, or a dirge because of how somber it is.
knowing a slight bit more you can really appreciatie that droning sound that goes up and goes down as something like an engine, revving up and down. very appropriate for the cult mechanicus.
I myself am a disciple of the Machine God, I have a synthetic heart valve and a heart monitor in my chest 😭. Omnissiah be praised 🙏 ⚙️
Cast off your weak flesh brother and be reborn in His image.
I'm amazed that you could gather so much from just this short piece of music. And even more so that the feeling and impression that you got from this desribes the Cult Mechanicus damn near perfectly.
You really nailed the Adeptus Mechanicus in your analysis from just the music. I'm impressed.
Spot on analysis, as always!
The Omnissiah knows all, comprehends all. Apparently, so does Marco.
As soon as I saw the title I knew I was in for a good vid. The first time I heard this song I was so mesmerised with the melody. I keep listening to it when I'm studying or relaxing. And I was really waiting for you to get that robotic hint. Man you never miss with the analysis. Really amazed with your knowlegde. Your vids are always super entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it!
holy fuck the fact that you accurately geuss what the mechanicus is all about just from how this song sounds is a true testiment to both the understeanding and passion you have for music and the effort from the people who made the song at conveying the feeling and lore through sound
It’s impressive how accurate his extrapolations are
3:40 you can feel how hard it strucks huh. The music in this game... It is better than the game itself. Thanks to Guillaume David, big thanks to him. Awesome videos btw Marco!
I love this piece. I've always interpreted the vocal distortions as conveying some sort of meditative, transcendent experience. Most Mechanicus are literally connected to a kind of internet and they also aspire to go past their biological limitations. Warped as their beliefs are, I still think there is something fascinating to it.
Dude got the entire foundation of the lore from one song based around them. That's impressive
I actually find this Soundtrack very relaxing for some reason. I also find the survivor main theme from Dead by Daylight relaxing, although that one also evokes the feeling of "Hidden violence" imo
Loving these analysis and descriptions of what the music symbolizes, this is why video game music is so powerful as a tool, it's a canvas for conveying concepts, story, and character like nothing else.
THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!
THE OMNISSIAH PROVIDES!
You just described the deeper undertone feelings of 40K's Imperium of Man from listening to one song. I'm not sure whether I'm more impressed with your phenomenal ear, or the composer's talent! Very nice video!
I always think of Mandalore's opening animation for the Mechanicus review now when I hear this song 😂 Glory to the Omnissiah.
I didn't see anyone mention it yet but I'm extremely impressed that you pointed out the "hatred" in the song. I wouldn't have been able to articulate it that way until I heard you say it honrestly.
Cuz it does have a vibe of sacredness and reverence, but like you said the "muted" quality and that deep and dark revving sound has an *intense* malice to it.
Which is absolutely on point for Warhammer!!
lolol 2:45 "is that... a diesel engine? that can't be right"
There is a 30 minute seamless cut of this up on TH-cam and I can't even begin to tell you how much I've listened to that. The song still gives me chills. I heard the song even before playing the game and it made me actually go and play it and it's now one of my favorite Warhammer games but also top video game soundtracks of all time. I'm glad you finally have listened to this.
Watch the intro video/trailer to the game. You’ll appreciate the game entirely there.
God I love everything 40K, it has such an amazing atmosphere. From the outside it's goofy and silly but it's all played so straight that when you find something really good it just "clicks" and bam. You're a fat virgin painting toys.
Where is my tech priest gang gang at
Marco, you have a beautiful take on the song, brother!
Thank you for being so nice!
In my opinion, the song is perfect but the revving of the machines could do with more bass. Thank you for the review, Marco!
Glory to the Omnissiah
HELL YES!
This is one of my favorite tracks, it's just so fitting to the universe and the faction.
"Some kind of cult" mate, they are so much in the religion of technology, they mostly speak in binary among themselves.😂
I love how Marco is able decode the source material just by hearing the music, with no prior knowledge. You have a talent, a gift sir.
I appreciate that!
Would be neat if you could listen to 'Invicible' and 'Arthas My Son' from World of Warcraft at some point.
Just did will upload in the new year ;)
That look on his face is the same one I had on mine the first time I heard no osphere. Honestly it's the closest I have come to a true spiritual feeling in my whole life. Also that bit about reminding you of your humanity was a good callout
A type of cult you say.....
Its quite amazing how you got the theme behind the Mechanicus by just listening to this piece. That sense of inmortality that they axquired through the machine. Great analysis.
It is neat because these are the theoretical "good" guys
The diaphragm is weak - But the pipe organ is immortal 🙏🏽🤖🦾
While we're on the topic of evil sounding religious music, I highly recommend Tenebre Rosso Sangue by KEYGEN CHURCH. Other pieces of music from the Ultrakill OST are great too, especially Gabriel's themes and Order.
You breaking this apart not only speaks to your skill but of the composer. You absolutely got it.
I once again reccomend listening to IXION ost (which is made by the same guy who made Mechanicus ost) especially "a speech on earth" that one is kinda unique in the bunch. th-cam.com/video/3hXJQf3wwu4/w-d-xo.html here it is by the way. There is a full ost video which is a little less than an hour long. th-cam.com/video/RhTXyUERugQ/w-d-xo.html
I recommend this so much as well, Especially 'Vanir's Legacy' the entire track of Ixion is really good no matter what though.
It is CRAZY to me to how much you correcly infered on the nature of the Mechanicus through just this one track alone. There is absolutely not doubt in my mind of the sheer power of music.
For someone who hasn't seen much of Warhammer, it's amazing just how much you were able to get right about the Mechanicus, their veneration of the Omnissiah, and their culture from the music.
One thing I really love about this is the "percussion" in this. The wide and vibrating sounds followed by the massive hits. It really conjures the image or gargantuan machinery working.
Really goes to show how deep the science of music goes l, that this man who (from what it sounds) doesn't know much about the mechanicus, but is able to read into their very culture so easily that he basically describes the entire cliff notes of what the mechanicus is and the values it holds.
Bravo sir! Well done!
It's incredible how accurate you were to what this group is and what it's about just by listening to this piece.
I knew music could tell a story but not how in depth it could get to an expert 0_0
:)
I love how you pick apart the Mechanicus by listening to one song. You sir are talented.
:)
I'm a very longtime 40k fan, and I found your insight here delightful. I knew the music 'suited' the game and the characters and nations well, but hearing you articulate your feelings here captured them so well even though you're new to the lore, and gave me a new level of appreciation for the way they used music to tell the story of the characters without saying a word. Thank you!
My total pleasure
When you make me understand broadly what the Mechanicus is and what philosophy it has with a song, you have created a great composition.
Guillaume David, will lead the way.
That you could more or less accurately describe the Priesthood of Mars from this theme alone is impressive, both you and the composer.
I love this piece of music. You get this choral singing of the worshippers and that deep rumbling voice almost like it's their god looming over them and humming along in appreciation.
You actually gave me a new perspective on this piece, surprisingly. It's meant to sound like a machine, unstoppable, unrelenting, cold and metallic, but also with those notes of soprano in there not so much as a reminder of humanity, but to remind the singers that this relentless unstoppable machine that they make with the music is also holy, divine, worthy of worship.
Something I noticed that brings a new meaning to this song is how the beginning of "Children of the Omnissiah" shares a lot with warframes "This is what you are". Which to me, even though not intentional says "This is what you are, the Children of The Omnissiah"
I don't know what's more amazing. That this conveyed a nearly perfect feeling of the Mechanicus? Or that you were able to feel all of it.
I know that I'm late. But, every time I listen to this song I can't help but imagine a mechanicus procession, much like a catholic procession. Almost like leading a collumn of believers to a Mechanicus cathedral. Or a column of believers and a tech priest novice being promoted to the rank of tech priest.
your abilitiy to actually decipher some traits of the adeptus mechanicus just through this song is so cool
It's so amazing when a master of some trade can describe you matters or the hidden ideas out of a single piece of the certain trade, like music in that very case. Thanks for your work)
And if you getting deeper into Warhammer music, then the music by Doyle W. Donehoo would be a great choice. Both his Dawn of War 2 and Battlefleet Gothic Armada I and II music (like his Angels of Death", "Imperial Creed", "Pit of Maledictus", "Brace for impact", "Imperial port", "Ramming speed ahead", "BFG Chaos theme" and so on) is just a masterpiece of pure grandeur and spiritual might! If any of these themes will become a matter of your discussion I think people are going to be extremely excited)
it is insane just how well you hit the nail on the head holy shit
