Hard disagree on the minifigure situation. Yes, there was the Planet Sets line, and I love them dearly, but those felt more like they were geared towards kids with the option for display for older demographics. A fun mini model that wasn't difficult to build, a character to go on adventures with, planets to pretend you're taking the ship out of hyperspace and ready to land, or if you so chose, you could turn them into Christmas Tree ornaments. And while there were a few exclusive minifigures across the whole line, they weren't treated as being super special must haves, they were there for kids to populate their armies or give someone else a chance to pilot a ship if they had the larger playset version.
Adding a minifigure to these display pieces feels more like a gimmick to get people to buy a set they otherwise wouldn't, as if the models can't stand on their own merits. This is also why I feel like UCS sets need don't minifigures. The sheer size and detail on the model is the statement. A display piece should be able to speak for itself and only include minifigures if it is in fact minifigure scaled to show off that particular aspect of the model's scale. Now don't get me wrong, I will always be appreciative to receive minifigures even though I don't feel they are warranted, I love my UCS Landspeeder with a C-3PO that has a dual molded leg so that the print of his silver leg doesn't just cut off at the knee (why even print that detail at that point?), but you're also just as likely to get a situation that occurred with the UCS Gunship where, while the minifigures are impressive, are not the ones people were asking for and really didn't quite fit with the ship either. The market is also flooded with overpriced minifigures that are exclusive to sets, and all because they added one detail that wasn't there before, it's ridiculous.
I want that Invisible Hand because it's never been made before, and will make for an excellent addition to my Invasion of Coruscant display, not because it came with Grievous with an exclusive cape or a remake of Count Dooku (even if it has been 10 years since he last appeared). I already own the original Midi Falcon, and while this new one looks great, I feel no pressure or desire to buy it because it comes with Han wearing his gloves from A New Hope, or has some other new detail LEGO would inevitably add to him to give some kind of rarity to the set. Folks are too focused on minifigures, and while I would be lying that they have never influenced my decision to pick up a set, Star Wars is not Marvel where people would likely buy a set because a particular hero has finally been made in minifigure form with the rest of the set, as good or bad as it may be, being superfluous, the ships and locations in Star Wars are just as iconic and recognizable as the characters, some even more so, and they can hold their own, on their own.
I'll still happily receive minifigures, but also say that if the Invisible Hand included Grievous and/or Dooku, I wouldn't be surprised at a $10 price hike, which can very easily make a set too much for me when my real attention is on a ship they can't even fit in or I can't really use elsewhere in my collection. I'm not one to buy and sell figures free of sets, it's all or nothing, which I'm sure is really stupid to some people, but superfluous minifigures is also how you get things like Fives and Malak in sets that don't even relate to them, and they're going to be very expensive in the aftermarket. If you don't think the same would happen, even with appropriately themed figures in these Starship Collection sets, you don't know just how nuts things can get.

Printed vs. sticker elements will simply come down to forecast sales numbers - the Falcon is forecast to sell more (long term), so they allow more budget for its production. Don't care about the figures other than General Grievous because I don't have him - have multiple of every other characters (can't even estimate how many Darth Vader figures I have at this point!) so I can put them on if I want to - but I find that figures on display sets actually detract from the display aesthetics. Most mini-figures are not actually that great to look at - they are after all designed primarily for kids to play with - whereas the display sets are not for play. For me, any figures I get in a set invariably just end up in a big box with all my other figures.

They are great looking sets, but I just can't bear myself to pay for example 85,00 for the midi scale falcon, when that same money can get you a cool play-scale set with a couple of minifigs. The point made in the video about including a minifig is actually a very good one, and to me it would probably go a long way in getting me to buy these. If you only collect Star Wars then this is probably not a big issue, but if you collect other themes like Marvel/Harry Potter/Ideas/Icons like me as well, it just become really hard to justify paying this money when there are too many great alternatives in an already rapidly growing line-up of sets.

They'd be opened, the figs ripped out and then resold separately. Let's not forget that Lego would be charging the customer even more foe the sets. It's wishful thinking to think the sets would stay the same price. The falcon and tantive are already overpriced. The issue that I have is stickers. They should not be putting stickers in sets valued and sold at over $50 in my opinion, it feels lazy and scammy. No other midi scale set has ever had a figure go with it

All of the designs are great, it is good that Falcon has printed bricks, inclusion of stickers in the other 2 is just infuriating. Printed bricks are important, especially for details like the symbol of Confederacy of Independent Systems. I do not enjoy stickers in any LEGO sets, especially this kind!
I do not need a minifig in this kind of set but it would be welcome addition considering the price.
On the other not I would love if the series could settle on for example 2 or 3 levels of scale that way so You can set up some of the ships together(for example You could set up Tantive alongisde X-wing from a polybag). Then You could display them as a fleet or even recreate battle scenes!

I think the reason that the Falcon gets printed pieces and more value, is probably because Lego expects it to sell significantly higher than the other starships. They probably assume that a lot of people will buy the falcon without collecting the whole collection. The Tantiv on the other hand is probably only going to be bought by superfans and collection completitionists. It's probably not unreasonable that the Falcon sells 5:1 of the Tantiv. I'm not defending their choice, just explaining the likely reasoning. I honestly think these are all overpriced and will probably not buy any of them.

Honestly, I don't need ANOTHER Darth Vader, Han, Chewbacca etc. I am fine without a minifig. Let the set be just purely about the build and design. Not another Venator disaster where minifig fanatics are buying the set and parting it out (or worse) just to scalp the minifigs.
The real problem with these sets are that they're asking for nearly a $100 for a Millennium Falcon model the same size as a $30 or $40 set, with stickers instead of prints, the plastic cost DOES NOT add up. I would be absolutely shocked if they cost to produce any of these in the starship collection is more than half of their MSRP. I love the designs and concept and will absolutely grab one when they come out with one of my favorite ships.

I honestly disagree about the minifigs. I’ve gotten to the point where, if not having a minifig means spending as much as 10 or 15 dollars less, and I still get a beautiful starship to display on a shelf with proper proportions for a reasonable price, that’s a steal. This is a golden age for Lego, as they’re finding ways to appeal to everyone, including people like me (I assume I’m not alone in my position of loving Lego, wanting beautiful “legos for adults” models, but not wanting to spend too much per set). I used have a much larger collection than I do now, and I used to have a mentality that would’ve demanded for at least one minifig per set, so I understand the desire for more, but I’m not sure Lego is appealing to that mentality here, and for that I’m actually grateful

    • @BrickTemplar

@@BrickTemplar yes but if Lego actually put minifigs into these sets, in all sensibility, the prices would go up. This sort of pricing isn’t unique to these sets. Any Lego set would cost these prices for these number of pieces and high build quality, and any Lego set would get marked up to cost more if Lego put in minifigs. I agree legos are expensive, but that’s another conversation entirely

David: "I've noticed one glaring issue that seem so obvious"
Me while watching the first 2/3: "Please for the love of bricks don't let the GLARING ISSUE be the lack of a separate collectible item that would drive up the price unnecessarily and can't meaningfully interact with the ship because they're at vastly different scales..."
    David: "...not including a minifigure."

It's not a "GLARING ISSUE," it's definitely not a "GIANT MISTAKE." Enough with the hyperbole. Minifigs would be nice to have, but if you seriously think their omission is a major issue then you've somehow missed the point entirely. They're a garnish, not the meal.
