Thanks mate, yeah I think I'm getting better at this whole making videos thing haha and this was a video i was trying to search for when buying my car so figuired I should make it for others
Without a doubt the SST is lightning fast. I can confirm this as I have a roommate that has the Evo X GSR 300kw at the fly, 230awkw TMR. (team Mitsubishi racing) same mob that released the bathurst edition, off the top of my head they are about 50kg lighter. I have the MR version with the same setup setup, 300kw at the fly and 230awkw. Did a number of pulls. I always come out on top, the longer the distance the greater the gap. Every time he changes gears, the gap widen.
Hi Jackson, I commented on this video 5 months ago and I ended up buying an Evo X! I got a 2015 Evo MR, which I think is the North American version of the GSR with SST that you have. Luckily previous owner swapped the 2015 seats out with some Braum racing seats. Part of the reason why I bought it was because of your awesome videos!
@@JacksonStrain I absolutely love it! I have been dreaming of this car since highschool, and it is everything I thought it'd be. Bad steering radius and all hahaha Your vids helped me w/ the informed decision and will continue watching to get ideas and see your build!
After 9 months of owning my evo I found out I had a sport today and scared the shit out of me when I drove s sport auto mode, thinking I broke it when it shifted up to 5th gear smoothly and then going only 35 mph for about a minute and slammed itself down to 2nd gear immediately looked for your video. Thank you
just got my ralliart back after a trans rebuild and I've been driving it in sport but with the stick centered. And I was confused and annoyed as to why the car was downshifting as I slowed down because sometimes I would downshift and then the car would downshift as well so I'd drop 2 gears where I should only drop 1. this clears up my confusion entirely. thank you!!
Currently have a Civic 1.8 Type S (Uk Model) great considering buying this as my next car. Your videos are very influential. Making me want it even more.
I’m looking at getting an 09 ralliart and this video definitely gave me some things to think about as the car is high milage and I don’t think the clutch has been done on it, so I may end up doing it myself once I get the car.
Amazing video, super clear on how each mode work. I'm about to get an Evo, you probably answer this before but I wanted to confirm, can I use Sport Mode/Auto for daily driving like city, traffic, around the corner to go to a shop, cruising around? Also, on Sport Mode/Manual, would the car downshift when going slower, or ONLY will downshift when fully stopped? Thank you again!!
Hey mate I have some great news, since this video is a bit older I have a newer one showing the SST Tune that has completely upgraded the way these things can drive. You can now even use S-Sport auto and the tuner can adjust the shift points but they also made normal mode have higher clamping pressure so can be used in auto around town and you're still able to drive it relatively aggressively. Check out the video I did on it called the SST TCU9000 tune from AK Racing
Nice video I own a lancer Ralliart and my clutches went at 25k but I was the second owner I upgraded to the kozmic HP 10 R clutches with new basket and torque dampener change the stator shaft seals and the megatronic piston and it works sweet
Thanks man, that sucks about your clutches going but it must feel amazing having it rebuilt with the Kozmic stuff can't wait to do the same to mine soon
@@dextersewlakhan565 yeah I have been trying to work out if I want to go 10 or 12 plate when I rebuild mine, either way will definitely be beefing it up from the OEM 8 plates
Ive found that s-sport automatic is nice for launches when drag racing on streets in mexico. it give you way less room for error when launching and it shifts at the redline each gear. it seems great on mine but im not a pro or anything so I could be wrong.
Thanks mate for the guide on the SST, you'll be right at home driving a Nissan GTR. My Evo X FE in the states is a theft deterrent cuz most can't drive manual.
Thanks mate, yeah R35 GTR would definitely wouldy dream next car. But i sometimes do miss driving manual so maybe I'd need an Evo 6 to complete the collection of ultimate AWD cars haha
Hey Jackson, another great video, been rewatching some of your older stuff and I was just wondering what is your foot doing when shifting (S Sport manual) do you usually let go off the pedal straight after you change gears ? Is there any difference to let go off the pedal straight away and staying on it for that extra 2 sec ?? Cheers for the video !!
Hey Andrew congrats on the new Ralliart I bet you'll love it. Definitely plenty of videos for you already if you back thorough them I think I've done over 200 now. But of course plenty more to come in the future
Thanks mate, These ones are from custom gauge surrounds Australia as they are made for RHD, if you're in the U.S then Ortiz would be what you'd need as they seem to be the same style
Yeah same here, and that is their massive downfall but ive somehow been lucky with mine as I've had it 6 years and other than clutches starting to slip I've had no issues
@@JacksonStrain Very Lucky, First upgrade on those transmission are Torque Dampers and Shift Fork 2-4 besides clutch. The Damper tends to go and Fork has been know to fail as the Glue on the Fork gives way.
Yeah they really are great to drive arent they, and always keeping boost between shifts becomes addictive. Thanks yeah the gauges are great where they are and don't get in the way like some other options i considered
When you do your two step does it actually sound like a 2step or does it just like you holding your throttle perfectly? Mine stops at 5k and holds it doesn’t bounce or anything
I have noob questions here since im new to sst: 1. Why does S-Sport is the best option to take care of the SST Transmission? since isnt it had the most agreesive setting? 2. (If so S-Sport is best to prolong your tranny) then if we want to make it less agressive, should we just manual ourselves to control the rpm not to let the rpm raised up too high? 3. In Daily drive, what mode do you prefer for the evo x sst? BUT take care of the sst at the same time. (comfort, sport, s-sport?)
So S-sport is the most aggressive as it is not allowing the clutches to slip when changing gears, where as in sport and normal the SST is slipping the clutches to make the shifts feel smoother. Yes you should drive in manual mode which is what I said in the video and showed why you wouldn't want to use auto, as I said I drive in manual mode S-Sport 99% of the time. 3, as above I drive in manual S-Sport 99% of the time, the only exception is when I want to use cruise control
With the 2009 ralliart.....I held the mode lever button up until it went into s sport mode....just hold the button lever for a minute until s sport shows on display
Another great video Jackson! Each time I think of wanting a manual I just drive the ra and think yeah nah this is way too good to ever pass up.. Lightning fast shifts, no user error= wins all Le time
Thanks Reece and yep I completely agree.. I'm sure one day I'll add a manual sports car back into my garage but I definitely wouldn't replace my SST with one
I only use S-Sport Auto mode when I race someone at the lights for optimal gear shifting.. Even when I'm in motion sometimes I chuck into Auto to race so I can just focuse on the road and then flick the paddle shifter to realise it back to Manual mode.
Hey mate unfortunately it was many years ago I bought that so the links just don't list I'll try to update but if you search ebay for Carbon fibre shift knob you'll likely find a similar one
Hey man love the video, my 2014 MR (US) makes a click when downshifting from 2nd to 1st and only then, is this normal? I’m concerned the gear is going out
There's still videos coming just had a few other things happen in life at the moment so haven't had the time to film. But there is a few hundred videos I've filmed over the past few years to keep people satisfied I hope as realistically most people only watch every few videos so will have plenty to go back to ( I hope anyway)
OMG , how mad is it the first time you hang on to it when first use s sport mode compared to normal mode and mines only got full system and about 24 pounds
When driving in manual mode S-Sport, do you manually down shift the gear when you need to slow down/braking at light. What RPM is best to down shift and is it safe for the reliability of the SST gearbox.
Yeah I generally downshift myself and probably around the 3k RPM range of stopping at a light but I can't day I look and just go by the sound of the engine as to when I should drop a gear
Love this man. Bought an EVO X 2010 mod 1 month ago , love the SST trans! But dont know if it is a MR or a GSR ? I have enkei wheels , and correct me If im wrong but only grs came with enkei?
Have you shown the Launch Control option yet? My mate at Boostin Juice Performance at St Mary's had the record for Launches on stock box in Australia on a stock SST. He hit over 100 launches before he had to do a rebuild.
No i haven't as mine has spark cut launch control rather than the stock launch control but I can't even use it as my clutches are already on the way out so I'd say one launch and she'd be dead
@@JacksonStrain you be surprised on a stock box what they can do but the SST has to be tuned as well. Not a teach in, actually tuned. As mine still on stock clutches at 200,000km I've only launched 10 times and that's all that Mitsubishi stated it was safe to do but yeah I watched my mate launch that car almost everyday and he even had a count on it so that people could see what these boxes can do with the correct set up and tune. Only issue I have now is my AMS racing cat collapsed and manifold has a nice crack so I'm still doing the upgrade on it but my cars a daily so yeah.
@@MrShortStuff yeah I used the factory launch control a bunch of times when I first got the car but since adding a bunch of power and feeling my clutches start to slip I havent used it just to prolong the life of them before I go in for an upgrade. Once upgraded i can finally use the spark cut launch control feature my tuner gave me and see what the car can do in the quarter mile
@@JacksonStrain stock Lancer turbo my mate got 12 flat. That was just a tune and exhaust. Best run he got was 11.7. One of my close friends is building a 8 second Evo X and he's not far off as he got 9s last run.
I have noticed my sst shifts into 3rd by itself usually within the first 2 mins of driving in the mornings. (In s sport with the shifter in full manual mode) I leave it to warm up in the mornings for 5 mins or so. It’s almost like the trans will try to shift after 2 thous rpm even in s sport manual mode. Only really happens in second to third gear tho. Must be a safety thing until the car is warmer. Anyone experience this?
It's a warm up thing, totally normal. The TCU reads reported torque and if the temp isn't sufficient, it tries to save itself in many different ways, auto shifting is one of them.
Hi Jackson, I understand this is an old video but I’ve recently bought a Ralliart and as you’ve said I’ve been driving it in manual sport mode, (getting super sport this friday). I usually shift at 2.5k-3k rpm which I think is correct. When coming to a complete stop I sometimes let’s the car down shift by itself as I’m still getting used to the shifting process. Is this ok, I sometimes hear grinding noises, sounds scary tbh. If not do u recommend downshifting at 2k rpm when coming to a stop at a red light for example. Also when entering and existing a turn should I up shift, downshift or leave it in the current gear. Thanks
Hey mate, yep you can let it downshift back to first for you when coking to a complete stop. Won't hurt to play around with doing OT yourself though as keep in mind it won't let you downshift too low a gear and cause damage so no harm playing with it and learning how you like to drive it. As for when not coming to a complete like a roundabout I'd downshift to keep the rpms in the range where they need to be as if you get on the throttle after the roundabout while in too high of a gear this is called lugging the engine and isn't good to do. So try to keep the RPM between 2.5 and 3.5 rpm
Hi the cost really depends on your location, for me here in Australia it can range from $400-$700 but can be alot cheaper if you do it yourself. As for the hills I don't see it making a difference unless the clutches are slipping as then taking off on hills will be a bit of a pain like my car currently is
Can you please do a video on how to use paddle shifts for someone who has never drove manual before, I’m about to get a 2009 lancer Ralliart and as I’ve been driving automatics only I plan to drive it mostly in automatic, sport or normal not too sure but I wanna learn how to drive with paddles in sport, can you please give me some advice on this?
Hi Sunny the best way is to just give it a try and try to always upshift between 2,500rpm and 5,000rpm and then downshift when the RPMs drop to around 2,500rpm so that you can aim to always be in the right range
Its very different to the E46 SMG as those are only a single clutch auto where as the SST is dual clutch so more like the DCT found in the E92 M3 and other later model M models
Hi Jackson, I bought an 2011 raliart with an ecu remaped. My question is when i'm on stop or on red light, there a shock from the 1st to the 2nd gear, look like shift flare.. do you think is the maps on the cars the problem ? Or the transmission is dying ?
Hey Patrick I'm not sure are you letting it go back into 1st or are you downshifting it yourself? Might need a service and a teach in for the SST is likely your best first step
Quick question bro, in S-Sport drive (non manual mode) if you go WOT does it shift for you? I've only been driving mine in manual shift mode when going wide open but was just curious for launches / when I take it to the track which is better
@@JacksonStrain I noticed on WOT the transmission seems to pin the RPMS between gears, it's kind of weird. It's almost CVT-esque. If I do pulls from a stand still, the MPH will increase and it doesn't seem like the clutch slips at all, but it will hold RPMs between gears at like 5k-redline. I'm not sure if it's a torque management thing or some sort of ECU mapping that was on the tune, but when I'm not WOT it shifts up and down amazing. Is this common for the tuned MRs to hold the RPMs high and stay in boost between gears?
As I'm in Australia we don't have Jacks transmissions here, I will be having AK Racing build mine who is one 2 shops in Australia that I would trust doing the work and building these things constantly week in week out
At this stage id just say either get one that's been replaced/rebuilt or one that will need it soon and get it cheap. Otherwise grab the newest one you can as they're getting older now
Hey there, may I know what headunit you are using? The data/information being displayed there is helpful without needing a ton of gauges, but the link you had provided doesn't work anymore sadly
Hey Jackson I recently bought a 08 ra with a rebuild clutch and 10 pack clutch i let the car downshift it self is that bad for the trans and I’m having trouble with the gears what gear do you use for cruising for eg cruising down in a parking lot looking for a spot do you use 1st gear or 2nd gear
Hey mate congrats on the new RA. I prefer to downshift myself most of the time unless coming to a complete stop and I picked my coffee up ect. As for what gear I just pretty much play it by ear and feel as it all depends on the speed I'd guess second when looking for a park though
If you were to get super sport on a Ralliart does it only shift on a higher rpm in auto or does it change gears more aggressively and quicker, also do you recommend s sport as a requirement or is sport mode alright Thanks
Definitely get S-Sport on your RA it's well worth doing, I only use it in manual mode but if used in auto it will hold gears even longer than Sport mode
They were from shift koncepts I now run the redline shift ones which are better. Check my recent videos and scroll down and you'll see the video I did on them
Hey mate yes you can by either pushing the shifter over the manual or by touching one of the paddles it will go into manual mode and you can then swap back to auto mode by pushing the shifter back over or by holding the pushing paddle for 2 seconds
@@JacksonStrain That’s pretty cool, thanks for the reply. The SST is super underrated, if Mitsu would’ve seen the clutch problems coming and given the tranny a stronger clutch to begin with I think the SST goes down as an all time tranny. I’m currently waiting for a decent MR to go for sale nearby to me, your video gave me good info on how to drive with it before I can actually do it for real.
I never understood why the dual clutch transmission in the Evo was slower than the manual versus cars like a Volkswagen GTI or a Volkswagen Golf R where the dual clutch is over a second faster quicker to 60 then the manual. So I'm confused🤔
It's way faster than the manual version. I run 11.43 quarter mile with 394whp and 0-60mph in 3.2. Roll racing also far faster than a GSR manual even if I have less power. Possibly those factory numbers you've found are without using launch control?
Well your comparing modified cars. I am talking stock vs stock the GSR Spanks the MR or dual clutch version with 0-60 in 5.0 seconds vs 4.4 in the GSR FE. In the VW world its the opposite. The Dual Clutch cars are about 1 second quicker in performance. Modified too, the VW's the DSG can handle more power than the Manual, vs the EVO the Manula holds more power than the Dual Clutch? So what gives??@@JacksonStrain
@@eppyz I don't think those numbers you're finding are accurate as using the launch control when stock in mine with the Auto it was quicker than a manual also using launch control. Obviously nobody keeps an Evo stock so it's hard to find many comparisons. The clutches in both auto and manual max out in the evo at around the 400whp range and in both you'll want to upgrade them just that it costs more in the auto to do. The auto box itself can handle plenty of power it's just the clutches that don't but once upgraded it can handle heaps of abuse. Keep in mind also a Mitsubishi was a far cheaper can than a Golf R and a bit older tech in the gearbox. We now own an RS3 along side the Evo but driving both back to back there's some things I prefer about the SST but overall you can feel the development that's happened in DCT boxes over the 10 years that they came out
Hey @jackson Strain I have a question for you.. I know this vid is a old one but id like to get some input on it. When i drive my lancer ralliart. I usually just drive it automatic in normal mode (Most of the time) But when need be Occasionally ill wack it in sports mode and just put my foot down (While in automatic mode) I wanted to know if its possible that it will ruine my clutches? The car has about 95K on the clock. I dont want to ruine my clutches either by doing it the wrong way.. Im very amature when it comes to mechanics & so i dont know all that much but to me it sounds like the clutches are slipping or does it only sound like that because the sports mode hold the gears longer before changing? Should i be using the paddle shifters when in sports mode? Like i said i dont want to wreck them so i just use them as basic as possible..
Hey mate, so if you're driving in normal auto its fine as long as you aren't accelerating hard, when in sport mode.and auto it's fine to drive in auto as long as you don't mind it holding the gears for you as I prefer using manual mode to be in control If it feels like yours a slipping you should service the trans and do a teach in, hopefully there's a shop nearby you that works on them
@@JacksonStrain Yeah i don't actually know if they are slipping, It could just be holding the gears out longer and im panican for nothing lol But getting it checked woudn't hurt either.. Besides it should be find having only 95K on the clock..
So can you go from normal to sport or sport to normal while driving or should you stop first. I know toy need to be stopped to go in to S-sport but don’t know if you should swap between normal and sport
I know this video is a bit old but I’m looking for some information on the trans.. I have a 2010 Evo x MR, and I have shutter whenever I go from a stop and it is awful. I always drive in auto normal mode (I thought that would be the best way since it’s just a daily I like to cruise with) but should I start driving in manual Sport or S-Sport to try to prolong the life? What could that shutter be?
Hey mate, yes manual and S-Sport is definitely the best way to prolong your clutches I also get the shutter but since learning I should use S-Sport and servicing it more regularly it has gotten better. I an actually booked in for new clutches and an SST rebuild in a few months and I hopefully won't have the issue anymore, it might be worth getting yours looked at by a reputable SST specialist shop too
Hey mate , just a quick question if you know , I have a 14 RA I replaced the clutches and got all the seals replaced and transmission serviced but the car is still throwing up the service light and skipping gears , any ideas ?
Just got a 2010 ralliart. Is it fine on driving normal or sport in automatic? Or using the shifters are better? Still learning on how to make my sst last.
Light driving should be fine, I have always driven mine well at least 95% of the time in S-Sport manual which is the best way to look after the clutched
Which one is better sport or normal on automatic? But i also got the s sport mode. Just don’t know how to use the shifters haven’t drove a manual car yet.
@@renzsarmiento9109 better for the clutches from best to worst is S-Sport then sport then normal. Don't accelerate hard or boost in normal. I'd use sport in auto as S-Sport eill be too aggressive but you can now get S-Sport changed to shift earlier watch my latest video on the new SST TCU mod upgrade to see Driving it in manual is easy and you'll get used to it quickly just try a few times
Hey Jackson, any suggestion on a headunit upgrade for 2010 evo mr? messaged several car audio shop but never come back to me. and if the oem control still works😅 Thanks
Hey mate, i personally run Android units in our cars and you can get them off ebay for around $400-$800 other than that a few friends have the alpine halo and love those too but they're around twice the price
Jackson Strain Thinking of getting a android unit too. and install the hks carscope connect to the hks oblink. but the oblink are so rare to get one in Australia. 😥
Hey jackson, I know i already put a comment on this video awhile back, I wanted to ask.. Is it okay if i am driving in normal mode & in auto and just crusing around at like 50-ish or so and decide i wanna give it a boot up the road, Could i slap it into Sport mode from normal? Because when iv done this iv noticed the gear i'd be while driving in normal mode & auto its in gear 5 or so and when i slap it in sport mode (Auto) it drops the gear to about 3rd.. I just would like to get your opinion on this as i dont want to ruine my baby
Hey mate yes that's fine but I would slide it over the manual first and then put it into sport mode so it doesn't violently downshift, but if you want to quick plant it then doing it in auto is fine too
I can't believe how fast it is. I've demolished Subaru WRX sti,V8 Holden and Ford's, Ford Focus xr5 but unfortunately I can't beat my arch nemesis the Mitsubishi Lancer evolution 7,8,9&10!!!! Maybe I need to add more boost. Lol.
Yeah they're so quick for what they are, unfortunately a bit heavier than the earlier evos so need a bit more power to beat them.. or someone driving who isn't the fastest shifter haha
It doesn't have any branding but they all seem pretty much the same, mine had the better specs of any I saw back when I bought it though. But yeah I love it one of the better mods I've done for sure
What is the advantage of changing modes when in manual mode. Meaning, of your in control of the RPMs then what dose sport mode do? I have a 2015 ralliart and I drive exclusively in manual mode, but I can't tell a difference between normal and sport.
Better throttle response, firmer shifts which means less clutch slip so longer lasting clutches ( it's reccomended to only use normal mode for cruising and if ever driving it hard to be in sport or better yet getting s-sport and using that) I'm surprised you can't feel a different as the throttle and shifting should feel way different
Ok good to know. I'll pay attention to the shifts and see if I can tell a difference. Sport mode in automatic mode is exactly as you described. Waits till 3-3.5 RPMs to shift. Very uncomfortable
How reliable is the auto trans and how many miles you put on the car already? I have an STI with 73k miles and thinking of selling it to buy an EVO auto lol
Hi mone has not given me any problems in 6 years, my clutches are starting to slip but at 12 years old and 175,000kms on the them it should be expected. I bought it with 85,000kms and I have added 90,000kms and close to doubled the power what it had from factory
Hey mate, I have an 08 Evo X MR, how do you know the clutch is giving out? When I go WOT she freaks out and the CEL comes on and it begins to shift very hard. When I restart the car it goes back to normal and the CEL resets after 24 hours. I know I have a misfire I am working on fixing, but I'm not sure if the clutch has a role in it as well.. If you have any info please help! P.S. you're Evo is beautiful 👍
Hey mate when was the last time the SST was serviced? Maybe start with a service on it plus a teach in and see if that helps. Also are you running a vent to atmosphere BOV or an intake you aren't tuned for? They can both affect the SST
@@JacksonStrain im probably about due for a service on my SST. She's tuned for the intake I have, and I have a turbosmart 50/50 BOV. Thanks for the reply mate! I'll see if servicing helps
Find a shop that does the MUT teach in or learn how to install it, it can really help. For tuned MR/GSR's with SST's, teach in is a must so the TCU understands that it should see more torque and know how to apply the right clutch pressure and slip speeds to keep wear down.
Check out my video titled the differences between an Evo X and Ralliart as it will explain some of your question. Since the Ralliart is a turbo AWD version of the ex but has the same body and interior
I would never drive my MR in Normal mode, it wears out the clutches a lot more. I always throw my car in N in long red lights, or a long stop somewhere.
Yep thats right, this is the first time I've driven my car in normal mode in years as it just wanted to make a video to show how it drives Putting it in N at lights is the right thing to do too I just always forget to haha
In manual mode it will just bounce off the limiter until you upshift. In auto mode if you're going wide open throttle it will likely rev to near redline
@shavaughnbeckford4172 yes you can up shift whenever you want in manual mode. Whether you should is the real question in sport mode as I'd strongly suggest using S-sport mode for that type of driving
@LeoPadillaJr has it had the clutches replaced? Any performance car of that age and mileage will need a few items that's roughly 300,000kms so personally I'd probably give it a miss at that point and find one with half the mileage
nice update video on "why I chose evo sst", you sound more confident and more detailed👍that sst is so much fun and lightning fast

Picking up my Raliart tomorrow. So glad for this video. Seriously man thanks ❤
Hell yeah congrats
just got my ralliart back after a trans rebuild and I've been driving it in sport but with the stick centered. And I was confused and annoyed as to why the car was downshifting as I slowed down because sometimes I would downshift and then the car would downshift as well so I'd drop 2 gears where I should only drop 1.
this clears up my confusion entirely. thank you!!
Glad you found it helpful and enjoy that new trans
Currently have a Civic 1.8 Type S (Uk Model) great considering buying this as my next car. Your videos are very influential. Making me want it even more.
If you find the right one I think you'll be very happy
In the states we get the MR and the ralliart as our SST options. Good video man
We also have the same but in the first few years you could option a GSR to ha e the SST which is what mine is.
And thanks mate I appreciate it
New Evo X SST owner, i learned a lot watching this video. Thank you!
Glad it helped
I’m looking at getting an 09 ralliart and this video definitely gave me some things to think about as the car is high milage and I don’t think the clutch has been done on it, so I may end up doing it myself once I get the car.
Yeah they'll all need to be done at some stage as they get older but you can sometimes find one that someone has already spent the money doing so
Amazing video, super clear on how each mode work.
It works great it's a ten plate clutch it even shifts faster and no slippage

Wow that's a bargain
Subbed and liked ! I just bought an MR and now after watching this, I look forward to playing with the drive modes.
Thanks mate and congrats on the MR.
Definitely check out the video I did on the new TCU tune as the SST has now been unlocked and is better than ever.
@@JacksonStrain coool, thanx, I got a good trade in value for my green Ram.
Hey mate thanks, I always keep my foot on the pedal that's the benefit of the SST is you can keep boost and keep accelerating while uoshifting.
Hey Jacko, awesome tip as I just bought a Ralliart CJ. Looking forward on more videos from you 🤙🏼
Hey Andrew congrats on the new Ralliart I bet you'll love it.
Definitely plenty of videos for you already if you back thorough them I think I've done over 200 now. But of course plenty more to come in the future
Excellent review of the SST! Is that the Ortiz dual pod cluster for your gauges?
Thanks mate,
These ones are from custom gauge surrounds Australia as they are made for RHD, if you're in the U.S then Ortiz would be what you'd need as they seem to be the same style
Still prefer SST then Manual idk why, only issue is if u dont take care of them with oil changes they break easier
I love my 2014 MR SST. It’s so responsive and a dream to drive!! Also, love where you’ve got your gauges mounted mate 👌
@@Infamous21304 mine bounces around a bit but I can't say I use it often
@@Infamous21304 new to the mr community i have 1 questions how do you 2step the mr?
Just found your channel recently. Good videos bro!
Thanks bro, I appreciate it
I have noob questions here since im new to sst:
@@JacksonStrain thank you. sometimes i dont get it clear since my english is so bad, thanks for the clarify!
@@JacksonStrain exactly the same, dual clutch on these motors just work so well!
Why didnt you fully stop before switching to R or D? Isnt that bad for a auto trans?
Cool will try s sports mode soon only had my Evo X GSR premium for a month
Definitely get the SST 9000 TCU tune from AK Racing also it's the best thing you can do to these cars
I only use S-Sport Auto mode when I race someone at the lights for optimal gear shifting.. Even when I'm in motion sometimes I chuck into Auto to race so I can just focuse on the road and then flick the paddle shifter to realise it back to Manual mode.
Haha yeah that's about the only time it's good as you are actually wanting it to hold the gears right out anyway
Hi Jackson, I really like your gear knob. I checked the url you have in your description but it’s not working. Could you help me out please. Cheers!!
I’m concerned the gear is going out
I can't say I've experienced a click in any of the SSTs I've driven, it could be nothing but maybe give it a service and teach in to see if that helps
bring the videos back! i would like to see the best reliable evo build list
Haha yeah it's quite a shock the first time for sure
thumps up mate
u may do more videos on drive your ralliart
and maybe tcase oil change!!!
Thanks Samer
If you have it in manual mode doesn't it just not matter whether it's normal, sport, or s-sport. Since you're changing the gears yourself
No because it changes throttle response and clutch clamping pressures jn the different modes.
@@JacksonStrain thanks
When driving in manual mode S-Sport, do you manually down shift the gear when you need to slow down/braking at light. What RPM is best to down shift and is it safe for the reliability of the SST gearbox.
Yeah I generally downshift myself and probably around the 3k RPM range of stopping at a light but I can't day I look and just go by the sound of the engine as to when I should drop a gear
Thank you so much!!!! This video was really helpful!!
You're welcome and glad to be helpful
Love this man. Bought an EVO X 2010 mod 1 month ago , love the SST trans! But dont know if it is a MR or a GSR ? I have enkei wheels , and correct me If im wrong but only grs came with enkei?
Hey Kimmi congrats on the new car, ueah if it has enkei I'd say its a GSR
Jackson Strain okey , thanks for the rapid answer ! Looking forward on the upcoming videos.
If it's the automatic, then it's a MR with different wheels. Only the MR was offered with the auto.
Anyone experience this?
yeah, mine does the same for some reason, I've heard that this is because of the aftermarket boost controller but I'm not sure
Yeah mine does that every now and then too. Seems like a once a month thing for mine
Glad to know it’s not just mine😂
happens to me every morning
How much is the cost for the trans maint? I live in a area with lot of hills will that affect the transmission alot?
May you please share where you did buy the navigation and what's it called ?
Hi it's just an Android headunit for Evo X you can find on ebay
Hey Jackson, when downshifting to pass, so I take my foot off the accelerator ? Or do I keep my foot on it during the down/upshift
Keep your foot flat that's the big benefit of a dual clutch box
Sst is ok if you want an automatic lancer. Reminds me of the e46 m3s Smg...
Its very different to the E46 SMG as those are only a single clutch auto where as the SST is dual clutch so more like the DCT found in the E92 M3 and other later model M models
Hi. What camera are you using to record from inside the car?
Hi I use a gopro hero 8 black
Hi yes it does and will upshift at around 6800rpm
@@JacksonStrain thank you sir!
You're welcome
@@JacksonStrain I noticed on WOT the transmission seems to pin the RPMS between gears, it's kind of weird. It's almost CVT-esque. If I do pulls from a stand still, the MPH will increase and it doesn't seem like the clutch slips at all, but it will hold RPMs between gears at like 5k-redline. I'm not sure if it's a torque management thing or some sort of ECU mapping that was on the tune, but when I'm not WOT it shifts up and down amazing. Is this common for the tuned MRs to hold the RPMs high and stay in boost between gears?
you should have jacks transmission build your transmission
As I'm in Australia we don't have Jacks transmissions here, I will be having AK Racing build mine who is one 2 shops in Australia that I would trust doing the work and building these things constantly week in week out
How long do these clutches last about if you dont know the previous owner and how much does it cost looking at a 2010 se with 80k mile
It's hard to say as they can last 250,000kms or only 30,000kms it really depends how it was treated and maintained
Is there a preferred year model sst evo to get?
At this stage id just say either get one that's been replaced/rebuilt or one that will need it soon and get it cheap.
Otherwise grab the newest one you can as they're getting older now
What paddle shifters are those? I dig the CF
Hey mate, they're from shift koncepts

If you drive in Auto S-Sport you going to need new clutch packs after a few pulls or maccas runs.
Hahaha exactly
Does it waste more gas on S-Sport?
No it will use the same it all comes down to how you're driving It
If you were to get super sport on a Ralliart does it only shift on a higher rpm in auto or does it change gears more aggressively and quicker, also do you recommend s sport as a requirement or is sport mode alright
Thanks
Definitely get S-Sport on your RA it's well worth doing, I only use it in manual mode but if used in auto it will hold gears even longer than Sport mode
Man it’s so dope on the inside 😎😃😃😃
Thanks Chris, I've done a bit to tidy up the interior so far and it's going to now be one of the next projects on the car to make it even better

How much worse is doing a U-Turn in a EVO compared to the Ralliart?
About an extra lanes difference
I know you can switch between normal and sport while moving but can you switch between auto and manual while moving as well?
Sorry did you use normal auto or normal manual on the motorway?
I always use manual unless using cruise control
Are there dry or wet clutches?
Wet
We now own an RS3 along side the Evo but driving both back to back there's some things I prefer about the SST but overall you can feel the development that's happened in DCT boxes over the 10 years that they came out
Do we have a provision for an SST Transmission on a Lancer GTS 2008 (2.0, CVT)? Do we have dealers in the USA to swap?
I'm not sure sorry but I'm sure someone in a lancer fb group could help

I have a question for you.. I know this vid is a old one but id like to get some input on it.
When i drive my lancer ralliart. I usually just drive it automatic in normal mode (Most of the time) But when need be Occasionally ill wack it in sports mode and just put my foot down (While in automatic mode)
I wanted to know if its possible that it will ruine my clutches? The car has about 95K on the clock. I dont want to ruine my clutches either by doing it the wrong way.. Im very amature when it comes to mechanics & so i dont know all that much but to me it sounds like the clutches are slipping or does it only sound like that because the sports mode hold the gears longer before changing? Should i be using the paddle shifters when in sports mode? Like i said i dont want to wreck them so i just use them as basic as possible..
Hey mate, so if you're driving in normal auto its fine as long as you aren't accelerating hard, when in sport mode.and auto it's fine to drive in auto as long as you don't mind it holding the gears for you as I prefer using manual mode to be in control
If it feels like yours a slipping you should service the trans and do a teach in, hopefully there's a shop nearby you that works on them
@@JacksonStrain Yeah i don't actually know if they are slipping, It could just be holding the gears out longer and im panican for nothing lol But getting it checked woudn't hurt either.. Besides it should be find having only 95K on the clock..

Hey jackson, I know i already put a comment on this video awhile back,
I wanted to ask..
Hey mate yes that's fine but I would slide it over the manual first and then put it into sport mode so it doesn't violently downshift, but if you want to quick plant it then doing it in auto is fine too
Would the s-sport work on my 2013 ralliart??
Yes just has to get flashed onto it. Also get the new TCU tune done at the same time
What are the difference between, evo10MR and just the evo 10?

I can't believe how fast it is. I've demolished Subaru WRX sti,V8 Holden and Ford's, Ford Focus xr5 but unfortunately I can't beat my arch nemesis the Mitsubishi Lancer evolution 7,8,9&10!!!! Maybe I need to add more boost. Lol.
Yeah they're so quick for what they are, unfortunately a bit heavier than the earlier evos so need a bit more power to beat them.. or someone driving who isn't the fastest shifter haha
what’s the difference with mr and ralliart?
There's a few differences you should check the video I made showing the differences, go to my videos and list by most popular and you'll see it
is your audio unit SYGAV 10.0? How is it?
It doesn't have any branding but they all seem pretty much the same, mine had the better specs of any I saw back when I bought it though.
But yeah I love it one of the better mods I've done for sure
What is the advantage of changing modes when in manual mode. Meaning, of your in control of the RPMs then what dose sport mode do? I have a 2015 ralliart and I drive exclusively in manual mode, but I can't tell a difference between normal and sport.
Better throttle response, firmer shifts which means less clutch slip so longer lasting clutches ( it's reccomended to only use normal mode for cruising and if ever driving it hard to be in sport or better yet getting s-sport and using that)
I'm surprised you can't feel a different as the throttle and shifting should feel way different
Such a helpful video thanks
Thanks, definitely the sort of video I would have found helpful when I was looking at buying my car
S-Sport is the only way :D
Agreed
Hey mate, I have an 08 Evo X MR, how do you know the clutch is giving out? When I go WOT she freaks out and the CEL comes on and it begins to shift very hard. Find a shop that does the MUT teach in or learn how to install it, it can really help. For tuned MR/GSR's with SST's, teach in is a must so the TCU understands that it should see more torque and know how to apply the right clutch pressure and slip speeds to keep wear down.
@@stephen9944 thanks for the info!
whats the difference.between lancer ex and evo x?
Check out my video titled the differences between an Evo X and Ralliart as it will explain some of your question.
Since the Ralliart is a turbo AWD version of the ex but has the same body and interior
I would never drive my MR in Normal mode, it wears out the clutches a lot more. I always throw my car in N in long red lights, or a long stop somewhere.
Yep thats right, this is the first time I've driven my car in normal mode in years as it just wanted to make a video to show how it drives
Putting it in N at lights is the right thing to do too I just always forget to haha
@@JacksonStrain Theres a video of my car on my channel, if you're interested lol.
Nice car man
thanks man
Hey mate what’s the exact colour of your car
Hey mate, it's phantom black
How’d you get S-Sport mode?
The car is an Evo so it comes with S-Sport.
I also put links in the des to how you can get it on a Ralliart
How long can i hold the gear when upshifting in sport mode in RA
In manual mode it will just bounce off the limiter until you upshift.
In auto mode if you're going wide open throttle it will likely rev to near redline
So i can upshift at 6k rpm
@shavaughnbeckford4172 yes you can up shift whenever you want in manual mode.
Whether you should is the real question in sport mode as I'd strongly suggest using S-sport mode for that type of driving
@@JacksonStrain i don't have s sport mode yet,im tryna get it flash on there soon, when exactly should a reteach be done
@@shavaughnbeckford4172 you should get S-Sport and a teach in done asap
is this a ralliart in the video??
No this one is an Evo
Is it a good deal a evo 2012 Mr 2012 187,000 miles for 15 k
I only really know Australian pricing sorry.
But that would be a bargain here hahs
@@JacksonStrainyou think the car will last me with 187,000 miles?
@LeoPadillaJr has it had the clutches replaced?
Any performance car of that age and mileage will need a few items that's roughly 300,000kms so personally I'd probably give it a miss at that point and find one with half the mileage
15k is 22,923.33 in Australian money
@LeoPadillaJr yeah it's too many kms on the car for me I'd keep looking even at that price.
Unless the engine and SST has already been replaced
Do you rev match when you downshift in manual mode? Or do you just let the car do its thing
The car just does it itself and I just let it do it's thing
