Honestly really good video, I've been thinking about buying a Ralliart and after this I've got a better understanding of what I'm getting into. Thanks man
Hey man, appreciate the info about the SST. I have been looking into getting an MR (I'm in the states) as I use hand controls and want something fun to drive. I have a Subi with an auto now and want something more engaging. I started looking up the SST about a year ago and there wasn't much for people talking about the them. So it's nice to hear someones perspective.
Hey mate I'm glad you have found the videos helpful as yes the SST will be a much more engaging option for you compared to the conventional automatic found in the Subaru. I hope you find the right car for you soon 😀
Great vid m8. I just got my rebuilt trans back and the delay you were talking about is completely gone! .My old clutches definitely had it especially when starting on hills or from a stop and was even worse when the car was cold. Now its instant, even just taking your foot off the brake and not putting it on the accelerator makes the car move forward. It has completely changed the way the car feels now. When you get yours done eventually you definitely wont regret it.
I'm a dealer in the states, Ralliarts are around $5-7k rn...such a steal for how much car you get. Even if you have to spend $15,000 on it to fix it, or just wanna mod it, over the life of the car, you're at $20k ish, which is the price of some crappy economy new car like a 2021 1.2L Kia forte or Nissan Sentra.
Best combination ever would be a Sportback EVO X SST. Proud owner of a Sportback RA here. I love the car! Tried Mercedes C/E Class, BMW M Series, Audi A4/6, nothing really comes even close to the great Mitsu. The interface is as straightforward as possible, the car is otherworldly reliable, practical, fun to drive. Mods are really easy to implement, and the aftermarket is huge. Being able to fold the rear seats and the huge trunk space makes it the perfect travel car, or daily car. And I find the style and rear visibility better than the sedan. If you're going to get a Ralliart Sedan, save more money and buy the EVO. The EVO platform is fantastic, wider, much better suspension, lighter, S-AWC, factory fixed calipers, overall a much better car. What made me chose the Sportback was really the rear end design that favors practicality. Invest at least 15K in it, for better brakes, suspension, rims, and engine upgrades, it will be the best car ever. The SST gearbox is amazing, I know we've heard a lot of people complaining about the plastic fork that fails, but that only happens with people that either overheat the gearbox or don't change the fluid often enough. The SST is bulletproof if you take good care of it: meaning change the fluid as often as possible, NEVER overheat it (if you plan to race it, install a better cooling system, like a bigger radiator and oil pan). No manual car can shift as fast as the SST hydraulic actuators, or even in manual mode. I've driven the Porsche Cayman with the PDK, and our SST shifts just like it. The advantages of the Cayman is the low weight and center of gravity, which makes it a monster on the track. But just like Jackson said, the shift speed is just stupid fast, nothing beats that.

Yeah the manuals do hold their prices better and will probably continue to over the next few years, I'd still prefer the SST to own though even if it means losing more money

I had an es since 2010 and just got a ralliart.
Hi yes I made a video on it using one of AKs development cars when it was first getting released. Not really planning on holding anymore meets for a while kind of taking a break after 4 or so years of hosting them
As a manual 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer GT owner, all I want to say is dont make the same mistake I did. Be patient. Wait until you can buy or lease an EVO. Or else youll be stuck in a lancer :(
Launch control is easy enough to type out. Step 1. Put vehicle into manual shift mode by flicking the stick over from drive. Step 2. Press and hold the traction button til it turns off. Step 3. Put shift mode into s-sport by pushing the button up, then push it up again and hold it. Step 4. Step the brake to the floor and hold it. Step 5. Press gas to floor. Step 6. Release brake and off you go! DO NOT HOLD IT VERY LONG OR YOU WILL OVERHEAT YOUR SST!!!
Yeah that all sounds familiar, don't you have to have ASC completely off too? I have the sparkcut launch control on mine now so its as easy as pressing brake then accelerate and off you go
Personally in dry conditions i always have traction off, in manual mode, and s-sport, so all i have to do at any moment is brake and gas and i launch, so im always ready
Yeah you have to be going around 5kph so rolling out of a driveway you can do it but as soon as you accelerate to any speed you are stuck in sport until you come to a near stop again
Yeah I only jusy noticed they had gone up which was weird as we only just picked up this red MR for cheap and it seems like now we could sell it for a much higher price.. not that we would as it's not going anywhere. Whether they're actually selling for these crazy prices will be interesting to see though
@@JacksonStrain I was going to get an EVO X back in September, but can't decide between the manual or SST and was looking at the 2013+ models or Final edition but the prices for one under 50k km were up in high $40k to $50k already and there weren't many to choose from. And then Toyota announced the $39k DA for the GR Yaris and I went with that instead, still want an EVO X tho
I found your vids because I'm looking at a ralliart. Was there a limited production of ralliarts? I'm looking at a 2011 with every factory option & it has Evo MR badge on left rear, Mitsubishi motors Evolution ralliart badge on glovebox & build number 38 of 500.
Hey mate, there wasn't a limited run in Australia as they were made the entire time the Evo was made. The one you're looking at might be a dealer special or it could have been a limited amount built for your country?
Yeah I'd say the owner has put those badges on it, it does look nice and well optioned. The evolution Mr badge definitely wouldn't have come from factory but does look like a good buy especially if you could talk them down a few thousand dollars from the asking price
The only limited run from a dealership brand new was a Ralliart TMR wich was done by TMR in Melb...but...Mitsu put a stop ro it because the Ralliarts were performing to close to an evo. You ordered it from a dealership then it went to TMR To have the modifications fitted then you picked it up from the dealership...it still carried full mitsu warranty....ive got all the deatails for the TMRs somewhere....ps: they also did a Bathurst edition lancer evolution. TMR also imported the Lancer Evolution RS wich you could buy brand new from them for about $35'000 and run it on rally rego...TMR was/is like a branch of Gibson motorsport/racing.
Wouldn't buy a sst lancer if you plan on keeping it stock and don't want to spend much money as chances are you are going to need to build the sst. Great cars I love the SST, but only purchase if you plan on making more power and or re building and upgrading SST/Clutches. My Ralliart is currently in for a full rebuild with 10 plate clutch packs, set me back $8.5k
Yeah It's definitely something people need to be aware of what the costs can be. If people find one with an already recently rebuilt sst then I always reccomend they go for it
I’ve got a bugeye wrx that I’m building wide body etc and abit of work done I’m planning to get a evo 8 or 9 but I’m growing fond of the evo x also but should I get a evo X manual or evo X sst? Or should I get a Ralliart there’s a 30k difference
I'd suggest driving an SST and preferably one that's been rebuilt to get the best idea of how good it can be. I prefer the SST personally and the Evo X version.. but in saying that the Ralliart is also a great choice just doesn't have some of the great parts and handling that help make the Evo X special
I wouldn't say they're rare as there's a heap of them around where I live but I think the owners possibly hold onto them longer so there are less for sale usually
Can you do a video on changing your headlight bulb? I can’t seem to find a video based around that task. Did both of your EVO X come with the GSR rear spoiler?
Hey mate yeah I can do that as I'm planning on changing the bulbs in my car soon, its different for the HIDs and halogens though as the HIDs are a bit more involved to change
@@za.ma3306 haha yeah I usually take the lights out if replacing bulbs as I find it easier. All Evo tens come with a wing in Australia and there was no option for no wing
@@JacksonStrain I wish that was the case here in America. Stock GSR wings straight from the dealership cost ~$2400. That’s crazy! I can’t find them anywhere. eBay wings are too sketchy.
Thanks mate, I haven't done a relocation on either of them and haven't really looked into it to he honest. I'm not sure what the reason for it is so ill have to do some research
@@JacksonStrain hehe because in Australia is allways sunny 🌞 weather ;) Have a look on some vids from " Devin Niemela " or some other owners where their Evos are exposed on real harsh weather -> strong winter etc.
so I know this video is over a year old (so you might not see this) what would be the best option for a daily driver that does get pushed sometimes on curvy roads? if context helps too im a college student
I mean I've dailied mine for 8 years now and loved it, as long as you can afford to properly maintain it and look after it the way you drive I definitely reccomend one
Jackson I have a question I'm going to be buying a Evo 10 that's auto (I have cerebral Palsy so I can't drive manual) can I use S-sport mode in auto transmission
Hey mate, yes you can the only issue is that S-Sport will hold the gear all the way at 6krpm at all times so is best to use the paddles to upshift. I made a video showing the way the car drives in each mode for both auto and manual mode so you should check that one out
Had a manual and 2 sst's I'd have sst over the boring 5 speed all day long like anything it can break lol the manual + & - and 3 sst modes are brilliant even still in 2021.
@@JacksonStrain also as well the 5 speed revs too high and highway drone noise Mitsubishi should have fitted their 6 speed box as in the last of the evo 9's.
It's hard to say as I don't know the pricing for the U.S market, it seems a little high to me as I usually hear of cars being so much cheaper over there
Hey Nick the Ralliart doesn't come with S-Sport mode but can be easily flashed on by a tuner or even remotely if you want to pay someone and let do it via your laptop. Our Ralliart which we recently sold had it flashed on and it's the mode we always used when driving
Cheaper and fun id choose RA, Also for the cost of a RA Throw on the X Turbo and Tune and theres you're evo. Only main difference is Body width, Suspension and a few other small bits
Yeah very easy to spend the few thousand dollars and change the RA to all evo parts. I did make a video recently right before I sold our Ralliart driving both back to back and talking about some of the differences which you might enjoy
@@JacksonStrain Seen it lol, Ralliarts go from 8-10k in my area, Spent about $7500 on Mine Private and spent an Extra 3-4k and now its tuned at 400hp. Or spend the 15-25k on an Evo with an SST and upgrade that more. Though Evos with SST are more taken care of then Ralliarts. Either Kozmic or SJL deal best with them idk who you had work with you'res
@@InfinitiLuxurys most second hand Evolutions have had the absolute curd thrashed out of them...wouldnt ever buy a second hand performance car...i bought my Ralliart brand new (special order)...the dealer actually gave me an lancer evolution for a weekend and i chose a Ralliart over an ego.
Another con that we can probably add to the list, would be poor fuel economy on these evo/ ralliart. My ralliart runs really rich i have gone through few basic mods and to performance shop but they said it is what it is.. any suggestions would be appreciated bro! BTW love your videos❤
A good tune actually improved fuel economy on mine when I went from stock. But they do have a small fuel tank and aren't the best on fuel so it's something that is just part of owning one sadly

@@harshdeepsingh7595 hmm that's definitely low as I could get 450km to a tank with mostly motorway driving on mine when it was tuned. A tune will 100% help as it did with mine has it already been tuned for the current mods?
@@JacksonStrain no I haven’t done any tuning yet and there is no way i guess if i want to confirm if it was tuned in the past. And i’ve been keeping all the services upto date so i can stay on top of the maintenance
So i’m looking at a 2011 Ralliart with the SST. Has 185,000km. Should i be worried about the transmission having issues?? I will get a full service done on it as soon as possible when i get it. Thanks!:)
It's getting up there in kms so at some stage it's likely to need new clutches and shift fork possibly too. If it's been looked after it may last a few years yet but be prepared to need to have some work done (my suggestion is always to buy one that someone else has spent the money on a rebuild already) but other than that yes do a service and teach in as soon as you buy it
@@JacksonStrain Thank you for the reply! Maintenance has been done regularly on the transmission, so oil and filter. Has not been rebuilt but the lady says it does not slip. @@JacksonStrainI'm looking at one with 58k miles. I'm assuming the trans should be fine it shifted good i think. I drove 3 ralliarts and they all shift different.
Not this old "myth" again geez...the sst is a strong box and there are ones out there with over 300'000kms on them and no fault...but if you increase horsepower on the motor as with manual box's you need to look at changing clutch's...simple! People will say all sorts of things about tech they no nothing about...and its mainly die hard manual transmission and subaru fan bois that will trash twin clutch box's...its like anything...if you look after it ...it will be fine
As I said the amount of messages I get asking about SST and potential problems is why I decided to make this video. I decided I would list potential problems as a lot of people do get them being that the cars can be 12 years old now, and the most vocal are people who have had problems. As I said in the video also I've had zero issues with either of mine and am prepared to replace clutches as after 180,000kms I'd expect them to need replacing eventually.

Join any Evo group on Facebook and ask about the SST. You get so many people commenting to say they're cheap, unreliable, can't handle power, they had a friend who kept breaking theirs ect ect This is I mean by horror stories and people who have only heard these stories repeat them to others over and over leading new owners or potential owners worried that the car is a money pit

Personally in dry conditions i always have traction off, in manual mode, and s-sport, so all i have to do at any moment is brake and gas and i launch, so im always ready
@@joeschmoe5009 ahh yep haha must have missed that part
You can go to S-Sport even when in motion, you just can't be going fast or on the throttle I believe.
Yeah you have to be going around 5kph so rolling out of a driveway you can do it but as soon as you accelerate to any speed you are stuck in sport until you come to a near stop again
I would definitely havr to agree,if the Ralliart came in a manual aswell I would still choose the SST transmission everytime 😏
I'm right with you on that, so much fun to drive
Whats wrong with the EVO X prices in Australia right now, couple months ago they were still 30k-50ks now they are 60K+
@@RaphaelYC ohh yep they will go back down but for now you can enjoy the GR as you were one of the lucky ones to get that introductory price.
@@JacksonStrain its in Sydney. www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2011-mitsubishi-lancer-ralliart-cj-auto-4wd-my11/SSE-AD-5331322/?Cr=4
Yeah I'd say the owner has put those badges on it, it does look nice and well optioned.
The evolution Mr badge definitely wouldn't have come from factory but does look like a good buy especially if you could talk them down a few thousand dollars from the asking price
@@JacksonStrain Thank you for clearing that up for me. I could not find any info on a limited edition ralliart with 500 made.
TMR also imported the Lancer Evolution RS wich you could buy brand new from them for about $35'000 and run it on rally rego...TMR was/is like a branch of Gibson motorsport/racing.
by just looking at your evo makes me wanna get the full oem aero kit. getting bored with the varis v2 kit now on mine 😂
Haha really, I love the varis kit but yeah the Aero kit does suit the lines of the car well
@@JacksonStrain i couldn’t agree less
Wouldn't buy a sst lancer if you plan on keeping it stock and don't want to spend much money as chances are you are going to need to build the sst. Great cars I love the SST, but only purchase if you plan on making more power and or re building and upgrading SST/Clutches. My Ralliart is currently in for a full rebuild with 10 plate clutch packs, set me back $8.5k
Yeah It's definitely something people need to be aware of what the costs can be. If people find one with an already recently rebuilt sst then I always reccomend they go for it
Sucks about you having to rebuild yours but atleast you know you will have years of problem free driving after
@@JacksonStrain yeah for sure
I’ve got a bugeye wrx that I’m building wide body etc and abit of work done I’m planning to get a evo 8 or 9 but I’m growing fond of the evo x also but should I get a evo X manual or evo X sst? Or should I get a Ralliart there’s a 30k difference
I'd suggest driving an SST and preferably one that's been rebuilt to get the best idea of how good it can be.
I prefer the SST personally and the Evo X version.. but in saying that the Ralliart is also a great choice just doesn't have some of the great parts and handling that help make the Evo X special
GSR Manuals are so rare to come across in Australia.
I wouldn't say they're rare as there's a heap of them around where I live but I think the owners possibly hold onto them longer so there are less for sale usually
@@JacksonStrain Yeah sorry that's what I meant essentially. I think I've only seen one up there.
@@JacksonStrain I figured that one out yesterday lol. Needless to say, I was defeated. Did both of your EVO X come with the GSR rear wing?
@@za.ma3306 haha yeah I usually take the lights out if replacing bulbs as I find it easier.
All Evo tens come with a wing in Australia and there was no option for no wing
@@JacksonStrain I wish that was the case here in America. Stock GSR wings straight from the dealership cost ~$2400. That’s crazy! I can’t find them anywhere. eBay wings are too sketchy.
Wow that's a ridiculous price for a wing, hopefully you find one for a decent price soon
Nice video!
Do you have in your Evo's "relocation kit" of AYC pump? What do you think about that? It's good to have it?
Thanks mate, I haven't done a relocation on either of them and haven't really looked into it to he honest.
I'm not sure what the reason for it is so ill have to do some research
@@JacksonStrain hehe because in Australia is allways sunny 🌞 weather ;)
Have a look on some vids from " Devin Niemela " or some other owners where their Evos are exposed on real harsh weather -> strong winter etc.
@@KM-vw9ni haha yeah pretty much, I do love Devins videos and wish I was as handy at pulling and apart and fixing stuff as he is 😂
so I know this video is over a year old (so you might not see this) what would be the best option for a daily driver that does get pushed sometimes on curvy roads? if context helps too im a college student
I made a video showing the way the car drives in each mode for both auto and manual mode so you should check that one out
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks mate
Had a manual and 2 sst's I'd have sst over the boring 5 speed all day long like anything it can break lol the manual + & - and 3 sst modes are brilliant even still in 2021.
Completely agree except I never owned the 5 speed so good to hear from your perspective too
@@JacksonStrain also as well the 5 speed revs too high and highway drone noise Mitsubishi should have fitted their 6 speed box as in the last of the evo 9's.
I’ve been looking at a ralliart auto in the U.S. it’s at 60k miles or 105k km , price is around 15k do you think it would be worth it??
It’s 2012
Really depends on the miles and condition of the car. I’m currently looking at a 2015 RA for a little over $15k
It's hard to say as I don't know the pricing for the U.S market, it seems a little high to me as I usually hear of cars being so much cheaper over there
So do you have super sport in the ralliart or no
Hey Nick the Ralliart doesn't come with S-Sport mode but can be easily flashed on by a tuner or even remotely if you want to pay someone and let do it via your laptop.

@@harshdeepsingh7595 ok yeah I'd just wait until those next mods you planned and then get it tuned and I think you'll be happy
What's your ride height
Not sure mate just adjusted the Coils to a height we liked and didn't really measure
I like your car, everyone else can just fluff off 😂
Haha thanks mate
is the mr faster then the gsr?
Yes it is until a certain point, but a mildly modded MR vs a similar GSR will be faster at the drag strip
I 💯 agree with this comment and if your a true die hard fan that bags on the evo x and ralliarts, then your not that true die hard fan that you claim to be. Go join the commo gang if you cant enjoy a pure rally icon. #norespect
There’s no horror stories with Evo X SSTs lol
Just people who thrash them in normal mode and never change the fluid
Join any Evo group on Facebook and ask about the SST.
You get so many people commenting to say they're cheap, unreliable, can't handle power, they had a friend who kept breaking theirs ect ect
This is I mean by horror stories and people who have only heard these stories repeat them to others over and over leading new owners or potential owners worried that the car is a money pit
@@JacksonStrain SST WAS MADE BY GETRAG one of the most advanced transmissions companies in the world
Obviously it was there first dual clutch so obviously things can be improved in the after market
But lots of people forget the 6sp in the supra RZ is by getrag and I believe the 32/33/34 GTRs as well
Dual clutches like all cars with clutches need to be replaced true….. but that just comes with the territory
Unfortunately people don’t have hands on experience
Here’s the major issue with the car community
They think if a car can’t make 550-650 WHEEL HP on stock internal etc it’s not worthy LOL
They don’t understand how unusable that amount of power is in real world streets
2 obviously the more power the more strain……..
I guarantee majority of people who complain never driven a high HP car and have no idea how dangerous it is first of all and how unusable it can be in majority of applications
@@chloespencer8632 yep this is all true and exactly why I made this and countless other videos talking about the SST and how much I love it.
As the more people that see them and hear positive things the less they listen to all the negatives other people say.
The main thing I like people to understand is that it's more expensive to repair and maintain than a manual or conventional auto box so I don't want people to get a bad experience when buying one with worn clutches then getting a repair bill they can't afford and didn't expect
@@JacksonStrain there’s a few people in America with 250000km on there X only replacing the fluid regularly and the clutches themselves twice I think
It’s the same BS they say about the 08-09 35GTRS there transmissions are weak…… here’s what they don’t tell you
Those transmissions broke coz of how many launches people did with them and it was designed to launch every other day
It’s always miss information
Just like 4g vs 4b
The 4b is a better engine in every way expect it’s a open deck and has alloy bottom end…. But in stock forum it’s a lighter more efficient more powerful-more reliable motor with timing chain etc etc
Just more miss information
Then they call the X not a real Evo
But totally accept the 35 gtr as a real gtr even tho it’s a dual clutch and has a V6 from the VQ family not I6 from RB lol
Sorry for the rant
Keep up the amazing content
I’m on Perth btw we should do a video together

@@PR1NCETD0T GSR isn't more fun more fun in my opinion..
launching harder, accelerating faster, holding full boost while shifting and heating cars with far more horsepower is more fun to me.
GSR isn't really more reliable at all, I've had my SST Evo for over 8 years and I had a slipping clutch pack after 7 years which I replaced, a GSR would have also had to replace a clutch in that time too so really mine has been as reliable as manual.
