So I just successfully did this after using your tutorial and it had me trippin. Cause I talk to myself all the time, but actually seeing myself talking to myself was a whole new experience man
DUDE YOU ROCK! I love how you make these tutorials so clear on how to do everything step by step and you go at a pace where people can actually understand how to do it instead of flying through it.
Awwww Jay, you are way too sweet,Thank you!! Your intro was SO GOOD! I think you nailed this video. I agree with keeping the camera rolling, it's the best way to make the clone vid work! I love what you did with the shadows too, it's the details 🙌
“He’s just making a stupid TH-cam video.” 😂😂 Dude this was cool. Always wanted to do this lol. Does this work IRL? Lol. Lila is legit too. Good stuff man. 👊🏻
Thanks dude! I appreciate it. I wish it was possible in real life. I need like 3 of me. Client Work Jay, TH-camr Jay and Dad Jay... They can be found in Target next to the Ken dolls 🤣🤣🤣
I'm learning about selecting and tracking, and this fits right in. I bet I can have fun with cloning. Now, I'm off to learn about adjustment clips and....fusion alpha channels (?).
Want to thank you for the tutorials! The cloning and teleportation tutorials inspired me to combine the effects in our Episode #7. However, I decided to challenge myself and my co-host and there are 3 clones in the scene as well as the original "actor" for a total of 4 on-screen at one time. Not pandering, but if you wanted to check-out what you inspired it is Episode 7 on our channel and at the front of the video. Anyway, thanks again and keep-up the great work! Really enjoy the videos and find the content really useful and idea inspiring!
Recently got into my film making journey, but your videos have helped me make pretty sick content in a short amount of time 🙏🏻 hoping to improve as much as I can during this quarantine
Have done that in sony vegas, fun to do ,I havent uploaded it on my channel ,maybe I will make a new funny clip who knows and what a great shoutout for Lila, she is great, I gave her a shoutout last week in Cody and Amber 's livestream
That is really cool Jay. The first time I clicked on your video I didn't realize it was you in both spots! I guess I didn't pay attention because I was just saving it to my watch later Boulder because I was driving. I'll have to give it a shot. It could be fun to give myself an interview about gardening right?
Wow Jay, this video really inspired me. It wasn't the whole effect, it was the way you zoomed into the obs footage. I'm inspired by the techniques you used in this video. I guess i'm now coming around to being able to recognize some of them. :-)
Hey Jay I noticed that the couch has a blur to it. Was that because of the outer feather? If so would you bring the feather back in, or do you have to add something else to sharpen the image? Thanks for the tutorial by the way.
Thanks for these tutorials. I am totally new to this sort of video editing and you make it so easy to learn. Just a quick questions, do you have any tips on how you get timings right e.g. in this one you look up as your twin walks past and talks to you? Is it just trial and error or do you have some tricks that you use?
Thanks for your tuto. I was wondering coule I change the clone by an avatar or a robot? Would like to do a little movie, me speaking with a 3D avatar. Is this possible ? Tx
Great intro video Jay. Just made a 'music' video playing all the instruments to Owner of a Lonely Heart. It's rough as crap, but I'm getting the basics down. Thanks!
Sorry that im kind of late, but i am planning on doing the same thing. I was wondering how do you make everything line up. And do you just repeat the process for every single "person".
Hmmm. It would require a lot of masking. Well, not a lot. Put the clip with the tree over the other clip in the timeline. Create a mask around d the tree and add an alpha output in the color page. That's probably the easiest way to do it.
this is a pretty cool effect despite my mind already going crazy from all the possibilites ever since i started learning about editing just a few days ago! but can i ask, this can still work with separate clips, right? what if you recorded yourself and only after, you realised you could fit a cloning effect somewhere?? i understand those challenges that you mentioned in the beginning of the video if we were not using just one long clip, but is it still possible? Thank you so much for enlightening us all with these effects!! don't know when i'm gonna use it exactly but it's so useful to have it!

I didn’t under how both clips played when you had the second clip on top of the first clip. Did you crop the clips or did you resize them? Anyone can comment thanks
This is so cool. How did you learn all this stuff? Did you go to school for this? I'm so glad I found you. I have a question, the color in my video changes throughout like the lighting (dark then light), even though the lights were the same while shooting. Do you know what this is called or what I need to look up in order to fix this?
You're probably shooting in auto. Your camera is compensating for changes in light. Only way to prevent that is to shoot in manual. And no, no school. Just lots of practice and watching TH-cam lol
Hey Jay, great video as always. I was wondering if you have ever experienced slow playback and rendering with resolve after saving a project closing resolve and opening it back up again?
Hey anyone - always have a question, when u work in fusion or color tab, the markers you set applied to the whole clip, os there a way to set In and Out? Or just need everytime cut the footage before applying the mask?
🤔 so I m new at video editing and davinci but i did this by simply cropping the left side of the screen with one footage on top of each other and it worked :)
I have a question, maybe it's a stupid one that solves really quick. In a music video, there is a singer standing in a room, and then a clone of him passes infront and behind him,and checking frame by frame, looks like it melts in a really realistic way. My only thinking was they used a greenscreen for the first part and the second part, but since the clone was using even a bike to go around the singer, I was wondering if it was a frame by frame process or there is a "smarter way". Sorry if I bother you mate.
Great question! In stuff like that, it's almost always a frame by frame process. There might be some green screen work, but there I A LOT of masking involved as well.
Hi, good video. I need some idea for setting up a production. Once set it will be over and over for me week after week. I am a minister. I want to put Bible teaching material on TH-cam. I want to start intro, hen me on camera. When I teach I use Keynote on a Mac. I want the keynote slides, either program or pngs. Myself in the lower left or right corner and keynote slides on rest of the screen. How would I set that up? DaVinci looks interesting. Would want some lower thirds to come in at times also.
All of that is definitely possible! Lower thirds are easy, and there are many pre-built ones in Davinci. As far as picture-in-picture look you're going for, just put the video of you in the track above the track with the slides, scale it down, and tweak the positioning.
Wanted to let you know I used the cloning technique again. I obviously had to do some things in the workflow to get 3 copies (4 people total) in the scene together.
