@misterkite There was a movie in the early 1920's called "Dracula's Death" where the movies mysterious villain is revealed to a man who's deluded himself into thinking he's Count Dracula, and it ends with him dying because in order to prove to the lead characters he's a vampire he shoots himself thinking it wouldn't kill him hence the title, but sadly it's a lost film.
“Peter's strange accent is supposed to be a fake accent used by the character because he thinks he sounds more "elegant" and "smarter" (hence the literary agent job). The accent comes and goes throughout the movie and is more prominent when trying to impress people, and less in scenes with people like the psychiatrist.” IMDB
its genius (his accent) - he is an amazing actor that is acting like an insane man putting on a bad accent - i think renfield next as a comparison to old and new Cage as a vampire lol
@@gailscrypto1536 he’s a awesome Dracula. Plus he looks like the great Christopher Lee in the role of Dracula. Plus some pretty cool knowledge, he’s actually related to the late great Christopher lee
Love this movie. Nic Cage at his best. My friends and I have always been under the assumption that the bat at the beginning of the movie bit him and gave him rabies. The rest of the movie is just his descent into madness as the disease takes hold.
Mescaline is the active ingredient in peyote. It's the drug Aldous Huxley took and wrote about in The Doors Of Perception, which was the book from which the band The Doors took their name.
Nicholas Cage based his accent in this film on his father, August Coppola. Coppola was a literature professor, and he felt that entitled him to speak with a bit of a posh accent. Since Cages character was a literary agent in this film, he felt he should speak with that same kind of posh. Cages roles are a cornucopia of one artistic influence to another. You never know what to expect from him. And he's a genius for it. I love him so much I'm this movie! 😂
Omg the Mrs' fury at Nick Cage's accent was so hilariously relatable haha!! 🤣Hearing it then explained as his own acting jam was just the absolute cherry on the sundae.
Not sure if I agree with this being Nicholas Cage's breakthrough movie, as he starred in Raising Arizona the year before. But maybe this was the uncaging of the Crazy Nicholas we have had since? I love it!
I was one of the lucky few who saw it in a theater. Every once in a while when i get bored at my desk I start calling for Alva. Alva. Alva! There you are! or the Too late Alva! Too late! Too late! It's too late, Alva!
@@ItDoesntMatterReally I've heard Cage talk about this scene a lot, the director was actually trying to talk him out of it. Cage came up with the scene and got the director to go a long with it.

Glad to see this old jem covered. Beals was not a vampire 🦇 so cage wasn't either. His job created stress and this was the result. Consider another dark Nicolas Cage movie "8mm".
Nicholas Cage character I think his name is Peter? Suffers from personality disorder and his job took a deep toll on him adding to his mental health declining so there was never a vampire and Rachel who is a actual person he had a one night stand with and for some reason hallucinates and imagine her being a vampire don't exist she was just a figment of his imagination. This is movie is underrated regarding Nicholas Cage performance.

Nicolas Cage is an eccentric but great actor that some people online have tricked themselves into believing is a lousy actor. It's bizarre how that works.
All of the scenes on the street are with real people, not extra's. Cage went all out with this role and wanted to fully commit to being a person that is going crazy. Which he is excellent at. You can see later characters in several different scenes, and Nicolas Cage has said this is was his favorite role. The director allowed him to do whatever he wanted and fully supported whatever choice he made. He did try to talk Cage out of eating the roach, but did agree to film it. Cage hasn't really had the same freedom in later films, even with Face Off he didn't get to do everything he wanted to do.
Wow, finally someone is reacting to this crazy movie. Next you need to another Nick Cage movie. Wild At Heart. Wifey just needs to occasionally take a chill pill. Some movies are meant to be out there. On one hand it’s good that you don’t fake liking everything but dang.
Ok hear me out - this movie makes a lot more sense if you watch it as a double feature with American Psycho. Also keep in mind Cage was only 23/24 years old when this was filmed.
I myself have never seen it but it’s funny. This was his first film and then he did a kick as job as Dracula in Renfield. Watching this is kinda like seeing him before he becomes Dracula because if you listen closely, he has a Dracula accent in vampires kiss
I always thought the accent was supposed to be a kind of eastern coast Ivy league "upper crust" kind of thing the pompous character was cultivating in order to sound "sophisticated". I love this movie it always struck me as a kind of prototype of American Psycho. THanks for showing it some attention, very underrated IMHO.
Brilliant satire of the 80s corporate/NYC/culture. All style, no substance. It's like "American Psycho" and "Bright Lights, Big City" had a baby "After Hours". (With vampires)
The actress who played Alva was actually terrified of Nicholas Cage so those scenes he is chasing her she was genuinely afraid and how Nicholas can switch up his acting within seconds.
Mrs. Movies I'm with you, I f*cking hated this movie, and I hated Nic Cage in it. Don't get me wrong, I love Nic and I think all of his accolades are richly deserved ... just not for this movie. His character is so odd even before he is supposedly bitten. If he lived in my neighborhood he likely would have had a crowbar upside his cranium. I'm sure that I read in the Bible, "A fool's mouth invites a beating". Just saying... I honestly don't remember the last time I rooted against the protagonist of a film so strongly. I know a lot of people like this movie, and that's wonderful. It just wasn't my cup of tea. Personally, I suggest that you guys check out "Bangkok Dangerous". It's a killer! Literally! Thanks for all of the great reactions. 👍
City of Angel's, Kiss of Death, Windtalkers, Leaving Las Vegas, Willys Wonderland, Matchstick Men, The Family Man, and Trapped in Paradise..just to name a few that you guys may like. And yes, he was crazy in this one, he was probably hung up on the one chick that he kept thinking was a Vampire, guess you could say she put a "spell" on him, but he had a shrink, so.... yeah he was just crazy and Alva's brother ended him. Just my 2 cents.
If you both love Nick cage crazy, watch longlegs. I’m dying to see you both react to that. But as I said earlier, you guys should really watch renfield after seeing this
I don't think most people do hate Cage I think most people have embraced him and how he acts lol. Cage never acts normal he always plays crazy weird or insane and I think people either role with it or don't 😅
he went nuts after he found himself with an eriction fighting a bat and then started to think that the vampire (which is the girl he was doing it with at the time) was visiting him but instead it could be the vampire bat just bleeding him dry every night until he just went full nuts. at leas this is my theory
I can’t believe Chi just related to Francis Ford Coppola. He only changed his name to cage so he wouldn’t be associated with his relative. Otherwise I think his name is Nicholas Coppola but I might be wrong on that.
I find this movie both weird and funny, but also kind of scary because of just how insane his character is. I totally agree with Mrs. Movies about his accent though. It bugs the crap outta me!

Vampire's Kiss is basically Nicolas Cage's American Psycho.
