Hellboy 2 is far more interesting than the first one. The first movie deals with Nazi experiments, undead sorcerers, ancient demons, and dark gods; Hellboy 2 deals with more fantasy-type creatures that also exist in this same world. Having Lovecraftian horrors and occult magic share the same world as more Tolkien-esque beings is a fascinating concept. Having the son of the devil interact with both is an excellent concept. That there was never a Hellboy 3 is the biggest failure of Del Toro’s career.

Speaking of Ron Perlman, he's in another movie maybe you'll want to check out someday, if you haven't seen it before, called Outlander (2008). He's not the main character per se but plays a Viking leader. I remember seeing it not long after seeing Reign of Fire (2002), probably 2007 & 2008 and enjoying both.
You're right, Mr. Movies, The Hellboy Universe leaned heavily into H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. The quote at the beginning was from De Vermis Mysteriis - a supposed magic book created by Lovecraft (along with the Necronomican seen in the Evil Dead series). The final monster was also a Lovecraftian monster callee, Shude M'ell. In more than a few demonic/devil lore styles there's a thing about "true" names. The names of demons that are known are usually something coined by others or adopted by the demons themselves. But their true names is their power AND their weakness. By speaking their true names the demon gains power OR someone else gains power over them. It's a thing that is rearranged for whichever story is being told. There are even some lore suggesting that this also affects God's as well.
Fun Fact: Way back when X Men: Legends was on PS2, DC also made a game with a near identical gameplay format. Ron Pearlman voiced Batman in that game and I must say. At the time, it sounded just as good as Kevin Conroy's Batman. The voice was deep yet still capable of being gentle and emotionally expressive. It's the most major issue with Christian Bale Batman. There was no emotion other than growling.
Guillermo del Toro directed Blade 2 prior to this. The first person shooters Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein 2009 and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood further expand the Nazis fascination of the occult. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is one of the greatest sequels ever made and one of the greatest superhero films ever made! Love both of these films and always preferred the first one over the second one, but after more re-watches, I started to appreciate Part Two more so than Part One. Both films are great tho and whenever I need great entertainment, both Hellboy movies deliver that for me. The Hellboy Reboot film with David Harbour was atrocious. Some of the gory scenes in the end were pretty fun, and David Harbour as Hellboy overall was pretty good even tho I still prefer Ron Perlman's version of Hellboy.
Doug Jones is the body actor for Abe Sapien in the first Hellboy. David Hyde Pierce played the voice but refused to be added to the credits because he liked Doug Jones' performance so much. In the sequel they simply had Doug do the body and voice.

13:58 probably said already, but David Hyde Pierce from Fraiser is the voice actor for this one. He went uncredited for this because he liked Doug Jones’ voice performance, that he did his own impersonation of Jones’ performance.
As much as I love the two Perlman Hellboy movies, I find myself rolling my eyes sometimes at how much they changed from the comics, particularly in this first movie, where the changes they made clash HARD with what otherwise works pretty well as an introduction to the central conflict of the Hellboy/BPRD saga. Characterization, relationships, and crucial elements of the worldbuilding are changed pretty dramatically for the sake of giving the adaptation more mass appeal (essentially what the movie gives us is closer to Men In Black than Hellboy), while the source material honestly feels like it was designed to be rather niche and obscure - like its creator put his heart and soul into something uniquely his rather than chase the usual superhero trends for the money. The second movie is telling a completely different story from anything we've seen in the comics, and the completely new direction gels much more with the changes mentioned above. As such, Hellboy 2 manages to be a much more charming and heartfelt film.
I'd love a top 5 list of Mrs. Movies favorite movies. I've never seen her say, wow what a great movie. I loved that. Its always, meh, whatever. Which is honest. And I appreciate that. But what does she actually like?

Eventually, Sarah (carrying Hellboy's essence) rejected Azzael and tried to save her soul from Hell, but Azzael collected her soul when Sarah was on her deathbed in 1617; Hellboy was, finally born (in Hell) that very night, after her soul was destroyed. and he would be, eventually, brought back to earth in the 1940's.

Ron Pearlman did some voice acting. He voiced Slade/Deathstroke in the Teen Titans animated series. I think he was also the DC voice for Deadshot in Justice League animated series.
Great reaction, to one of my main favorite superhero movies. The first Hellboy movie was just outstanding, on my perspective. And honestly it was thanks to this movie that I was introduced to Hellboy and decided to read up more of his comics. I remember watching this movie when I was like 5 or 6 years old. I even remember by then that I had a Hellboy action figure that they release out like a year later after the movie was released on 2004. Ron Perlman acting is just perfect as Hellboy, even until today he is still my favorite version of Hellboy out of David Harbour from the 2019 film and Jack Kesy from the upcoming movie of this year "Hellboy: The Crooked Man" Although people say that this new version is the most closet one to his physical appeareance on the comics. I have to say that they got a point on that if we compare side to side. Still though I prefer Perlman's Hellboy since I am more of a nostalgic fan and remembering this Hellboy is like returing me back to my childhood. I also loved the designs of the main villains, like Karl Ruprecht Kroenen and Samael, I think they were the most interesting ones out of Rasputin who was the main antagonist of this film. Specially for Karl since his nazi outfit and masks just gave him a badass look. 1:12 I died, think that is a pornstar. 😂😂😂

Happy Friday! If this hasn’t already been answered, Doug Jones was Abe Sapien, but in this movie, Abe was voiced by David Hyde Pierce from “Frasier”.
Mythos of old gods living in deep space.
Hope you do the sequel Golden Army. Also, VERY GOOD
You don’t use wooden matches either because they’re covered in sulfur and impart that flavor onto the cigar!
I wonder if the Baby Ruth is a nod to The Goonies.
I had know idea who Hellboy was until this movie came out. The minute I start seeing him in action, I was like, "I like this guy already."
I always wondered why Abe is always in water when not in missions but then it hit me that he's a reverse human..we can go in water and dives but still prefer to live out of water..he's the opposite.
That's the actual historical Rasputin he's Hellboy biggest villian, and dark horse the company that puplished hellboy also did judge dress so they exist in the same universe
Hellboy is a Dark Horse Comics character. He appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2, 1993. He was created by Mike Mignola. He was written by John Byrne & drawn by Mike Mignola. He's one of the few comic book characters not from Marvel or DC to have a major motion picture. He's in my top 5 Independent comic book characters of all time.
Here's my top 5 Independent comic book characters of all time
1. Spawn(Image)
2. Hellboy (Dark Horse)
3. Invincible (Image)
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW)
5. Bloodshot(Valiant)
1:12 ..."Why do I know that name but think that is a porn star"...🤣🤣🤣
31:06 That's one impressive tower!
Hellboy 2 is even better
Golden Army? Yeah.
Hellboy 2 was great. For better than 1.
@@jamesrein648you must be thinking of the recent remake without DelToro or Pearlman.
One of the best comic book films ever made.
@@jamesrein648I liked Hell Boy 2
In this movie and Constantine, they reference the Nazis and the Spear of Destiny. When Hitler annexed Austria, the supposed to be real Spear of Destiny was in a museum in Viena and the SS seized it under orders from Hitler itself. For real.
Hellboy 2 is actually better than the first. Definitely worth a watch.
Ron PEARLMAN is also great in Alien : Resurrection.
13:58 probably said already, but David Hyde Pierce from Fraiser is the voice actor for this one. He went uncredited for this because he liked Doug Jones’ voice performance, that he did his own impersonation of Jones’ performance.
The Ron Jeremy version would have Three Horns
BA DUM TSS
Wow, girls. That's an amazing tower you made there! Thanks for letting your mom and dad show everyone how to do it right! 😊
I do wish that del Toro had stayed a little closer to the comic by letting Hellboy be more of a public figure and making the B.P.R.D. less secretive.
I'd love a top 5 list of Mrs. Movies favorite movies. I've never seen her say, wow what a great movie. I loved that. Its always, meh, whatever. Which is honest. And I appreciate that. But what does she actually like?
I guess you missed Mr. Right on Wednesday. She loved that one this week.
@@YouMeTheMovies I did miss it!!! Thank you, I'll be watching it soon. Love your humor and "interuptions". Bless your whole family.
Hellboy and Blade 2 are my favorite Guillermoro Del Toro's movies. If only he came back for Blade 3, it would've done better
I miss seeing Selma Blair on the big screen. I hope she's enjoying life the best she can ❤
She has MS like Christina Applegate. I don’t believe she is acting right now, but she does post on Instagram.

Hellboy is heavily Lovecraftian in nature. One of the ancient tomes in the Cthulhu Mythos is the De Vermis Mysteriis.
"Is she a fire girl?"
The term you're looking for, is pyrokinetic.
13:50 He played Niles on Frasier.
Oh man! I hope you guys give hellboy 2 a watch. First one was pretty decent, 2nd one was stellar. A fun and charming movie with quite a few memorable moments.
If Hellboy was at full power Thanos with The Infinity gauntlet and all of the stones would not stand a chance. Truthfully The Avengers will not stand a chance themselves against Hellboy except a few individuals.
Hellboy is actually half human on his mother's side
So his mother was white, right? I forgot, even after watching Hellboy 2.
@@taoist32 Hellboy's mother doesn't appear in the films; but yeah, she was white, because she was british: Sarah Hughes was a female human witch that was a consort of archdemon Azzael (Hellboy's father); from this union, Hellboy was conceived on Walpurgis night of 1574; but, being a paranormal entity, he would not be born in this world.
Thank you both for you’re time 🤙🏻🍿
Hellboy, starring Ron Jeremy!
HUH
"Look at the size of that whammer!" 👀🤤
This movie goes hard in every category you think of. I mean for being . . .wait 200 years?! Insert saving private Ryan old gif here lol but seriously even the opening is near perfect with just the right amount of WW2 American troops who find him, the makeup, the practical effects - god damn Ron P is a gem and besides Tim C from Legend, this gets my vote for overall makeup / practical makeup.
Ron Pearlman did some voice acting. He voiced Slade/Deathstroke in the Teen Titans animated series. I think he was also the DC voice for Deadshot in Justice League animated series.
Was Ron Pearlman in "The name of the rose"?
Blade 1998 was before hellboy
This director did Blade 2
Should've mentioned Pacific Rim that's something she knows Ron Perlman from
The sequel to this, is even better! The reboot, not so much.
Ron Perlman acting is just perfect as Hellboy, even until today he is still my favorite version of Hellboy out of David Harbour from the 2019 film and Jack Kesy from the upcoming movie of this year "Hellboy: The Crooked Man"
Although people say that this new version is the most closet one to his physical appeareance on the comics.
It's a bit concerning to me that the first person Mrs. Movies things of when she hears the name, Ron, is Mr. Jeremy. Not Wesley. Not Burgundy. But the infamous former pr0nstar.
He graduated from my alma mater, Queens College/CUNY, and had a bit part as a bystander during the firehouse explosion in "Ghostbusters" (1984).
