Fun fact: The lead SWAT guy at Cyberdyne that tells them to "fall back" is Dean Norris, Hank from Breaking Bad. He had plenty of these smaller roles during this time including Lethal Weapon 2 and Total Recall. Also, greatest action movie ever made. The SFX were groundbreaking for the era and hold up extremely well today. Another cool fact was that Robert Patrick (T-1000) actually studied the head movements of Bald Eagles to look like an actual predator stalking its prey.
There's an actual reason John is teaching the Value of Humanity.... It is the hope that maybe if the T-100 could be taught then maybe Skynet could be also....
Please do not watch any of the other Terminator movies... 🚫🚫 They ruined the franchise... It's really curious how a lot of IPs in the 80s and 90s created so many iconic franchises with successful sequels (Aliens, Terminator, Back to the Future, Star Wars, the Mummy, Indiana Jones, and so many others) and were later destroyed by totally crap follow ups... Something killed creativity and competency in the 2000s. Social media?
My dad who hates tv and movies when on a rainy day couldn’t work on the farm I managed to convince him to watch this movie I’ve never forgotten his reaction he just looked at me and said not bad not bad at all I know for most people it’s not much but from a truck driving farmer who despised the modern world that is praise beyond measure and now that he is gone this movie means so much more
One of my favourite facts about this movie is that Robert Patrick (T1000) trained himself not to flinch or blink while firing his gun. You see it best when the terminators first face off in mall hallway, I’m so glad u guys noticed it lol not many do
His performance was outstanding! He really sold it as the T-1000 in this film! Paying attention to all those details made it such a joy to watch 😃 thank you for watching this with us !
This film was pushing the limits of practical effects 30 hears ago, and we haven't really got much better at those since then. Of course CGI has come a long way, but that tends to mean directors use CGI to save money or to do things that couldn't be done practically.
The great James Cameron has made 3 films that are better than the first: Avatar 2 is way better than the first, Aliens and this film. The man is a legend:)
T2 is a bonafide Masterpiece! I think it’s One of, If Not the Greatest Sci Fi Action Film of All Time. Everything in this film is just to perfection. The Casting, The Acting, The Action, The Production, The Story, The special FX still holds up nearly 30 yrs later.
“If a terminator can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too” is one of the best ending lines in a movie. Sadly, I do not think we are there yet.
As a small bit of trivia, Jenette Goldstein (the actress who plays John's foster mother) is the same actress who played Vasquez (the tough female Space Marine) in Aliens. She also played the Irish Mother in Titanic. A great actress who can morph into any character.
All three of those movies are James Cameron movies. Also, Michael Biehn was in The Terminator, Aliens, and the Abyss. Bill Paxton was also in The Terminator and Aliens, and I swear he had a cameo as the voice of the security guard that says, “Hey look, I got a full house.”
Dyson death is one of the best death performances I've seen, those gasps were SO well done, no unnecessary over the top acting, just a guy gasping his last breath
@@ericomartins9794 Precisely, if you sustain chest trauma like that you're going to be breathing in short, rapid breaths because deeper breaths will cause MASSIVE agony. I had an incident as a child and in the hospital had to have a respiratory therapist work with me to regain normal deep breathing function as I was only breathing with my upper lungs and not the lower half.
I was by my mother's bedside when she died. The actor's performance was scarily accurate. Preceding death (in many cases) breathing speeds up and then gradually slows to a halt. That was the process for my mum.
Honestly I think it still holds up as one of the best movies period. I have made lists and it's never not on it. The story and the dynamics of the relationships and the chemistry between Arnie and Furlong. Sarah being badass and complex. The story has complexity yet is easy followed and will make grown men cry like children. The flow and the pace and the dialogue. Then the performances. You had not one but two actors that made you believe they are machines. For me it doesn't have much weak points. Best part like I said it holds up against anything made in the last 30 years. To me anyway.
This movie and “Jurassic Park”, two years later, revolutionized what was possible in terms of special effects. It was then that it became clear that eventually ANY movie or effect would be possible, in a matter of time.
The nuke scene is considered one of the most accurate fictional portrays of a nuclear blast in film. The special effects still holds up 32 years later. It was an Oscar for best visual effects.
Because James Cameron asks a lot of questions before he starts making decisions. You can see it in all of his movies. This is a difference between great director and just an average joe who makes things up without even bothering to look at a single footage to start with.
Ive seen hundreds if not thousands of movies…the most unsettling and scariest scene to me is still the nuke scene because its a real thing that could happen, and its terrifying
@@Heller103085 it happened already in Japan and there is enough Footage what happened 2 the people their ...how they were burned and melted by the us army .... the USA not the good ones only in America they think that way in most parts of the world they considered more bad than the Nazis....i know that the normal American Citizens are just like other normal People and just want to live in Piece and dont Harm anyone .... but your Government is acting like the World Police and Killing people all over the World just for Resources....like an evil Empire 😑
My favorite bit of acting was Linda Hamilton's shift from bad ass guerilla fighter to terrified survivor when she saw the T101. Her realizing she was becoming a terminator in the Dyson home scene was a close second.
@@doublejmsu6745I came here to reply with something similar. Aliens set the standard, and T2 kept it going. I found both Ripley and Vasquez(who played the foster mom in this movie) in Aliens and Connor in T2 very empowering during my impressionable youth. So badass!
People often comment about Robert Patrick (T1000) training himself to not blink while firing the gun - which IS tremendous because it really helps the scene. But, what i find even more astounding, is that in all the sprinting scenes - chasing the dirtbike, chasing the car - his mouth isn't open. He's only breathing through his nose while running that fast and far, which is very inhuman.
He also trained in sprinting so much to the point that when they filmed the bike chase, he kept accidentally catching up to the bike. He had to slow himself down, he was that fast!
Robert really trained hard for his part in this movie. He Trained with a track coach for a year before filming and for his usage of guns he trained with a former Navy SEAL
I love the detail that max was barking, because the t-1000 was there. It was established in the first movie that dogs bark in the presence of terminators
Even better that Arnold didn't say something like "the dog is barking, they bark at terminators" to John. So many movies treat viewers like idiots, and I am aware that there are plenty, but it is this insistence on making sure viewers are constantly made aware of, or reminded of past scenes that can make a movie unnecessarily long sometimes. One of my favorite things about this movie is there are very few wasted moments.
Max didnt bark because dog instinctly bark at terminators, he barked because the person who looked like Connors foster mom wasnt Connors foster mom. When the T-1000 was there the first time, max didnt bark. In the first movie they trained the dogs to bark at terminators, like dogs only "bark" if the find drugs or bombs when they are trained for it
@@wolf310ii i'd say that it is. imagine if you were a dog, and you saw something that looked human but did not smell human at all. you'd be barking too.
What I love about you guys is, you're not idiots like some reaction video hosts. You remember things that happened earlier in the movies and draw conclusions that usually end up being correct. It's fun watching you analyze movies!
Lol I hate to be a dick but you’re spot on. Some reactors miss out constantly on plot details from just a few minutes ago or with connected movies they forget everything .
We gotta give Miles Tyson some serious credit. Dude probably worked his butt off on Snynet, but as soon as he hears what it does in the future, he quickly swallows his ego and agrees to destroy what was possibly his life's work. His death is just as sad as Arnie's.
That's so true though, imagine your life's work, that you thought was going to make a difference in the world - yet it does the opposite of what you hoped. Being the architect of the world's demise must have been a terrible realization to go through....
I’m actually happy that Terminator Geneysis actually gave the original actor and his role a happier conclusion to some extent :) I’d consider that film a better ending than Terminatir Dark Fate.
I heard he had a some kind of trouble with his heart, so he had real life death experience. So when you see him gasping for air before he dies, it is actually how it happened in real life.
I saw a dreadful movie recently and throughout the movie this one actress gave me a feeling I've seen her before, but I was unsure. Anyway at some point the penny dropped and it was Jenette, she had me fooled for nearly an hour.
@@mikethompson3305 She thought it was illegal aliens, and she signed up. Actual joke on Jeanette expense, it was not in the script. (Jeanette thought the movie named "aliens" was about illegal aliens so she played it as she was Hispanic bad as in the casting, Cameron thought it was so funny he had to have here on) The irony of it is that despite she being a fairly minor side figure, she is still one of the most memorable and got here own cinema trope. Talking about having a mistake that paned out in your Cavour
Robert Patrick played his role immaculately. He went through heavy gun training to train himself to not blink or flinch when shooting. Also, in his younger days, he was a track stat in college. They had to keep reshooting the dirt bike scene because he kept catching up to it.
@@Alexanderthegreat159 well, he was breathing, but he was breathing 1) through his nose only 2) with a completely robotic, expressionless look. To do what he did in that scene is insane but even actual track stars pierce their lips and grit their teeth and squint their eyes when running full speed. Robert’s work was on a different level.
It's also the way he's able to just snap between modes like flipping a switch. Like one second he's in Infiltration mode, he's flawlessly human, even charming and then as soon as he spots at target, its Combat Mode and he's this terrifyingly relentless killer.
When Arnie says, "it's in your nature to destroy yourselves". That line cuts deep. I never expected the movie to say such profound things about humanity, and it's coming out of a cyborg. And that whole sequence about him being the best father figure John had ever had. Really powerful.
The GOAT. Arnold, Guns 'N' Roses, dusty 90's LA and the greatest scenes, phrases in film history. A roller-coaster, none stop, epic action movie. Heavy metal lightning in a bottle.
Both Linda Hamilton and the guard who got killed in the hospital had identical twin siblings, who were also cast for this film, which made it far easier to film sequences where both of them were in frame. Twice for Hamilton as her sister was the one in the playground in the nightmare sequence as well as being the terminator/sarah in the final shots.
I would have never known Linda Hamilton had a twin sister from watching this movie. In the Behind The Scenes they showed how she was used but really, I just thought James Cameron had used some camera trickery. In the playground Armageddon scene, Linda Hamilton is watching from behind a fence and I don't even remember seeing both sisters in the same frame in that scene. The guard twins also had a minor role in Good Morning Vietnam.
Also the scene in the "mirror" when she remove the chip from his head. Its not actually a mirror but rather a hole in the wall. The camera facing the "reflection" is actually Linda and Arnold and the people being filmed from behind is Linda's sister and a fake Arnold
15:13 Robert Patrick, at that time, was very into running as a sport and for fitness. He was a competitive cross country runner and for the first take of that scene, he actually DID catch up to the bike before it even got up to speed! He only runs completely flat out once in the movie, when he's chasing the car leaving the mental institution, but here, he's only at about 60 to 70% gas.
Also he invented the running for this movie. He figured out, that he should run different, not like a human, but also not to robotic. So he said to himself, he focus his eyes on one single point in front of him - not looking anywhere, while he is running. And no breathing, no additional movement, or exhaustion. Stiff arms, because he doesnt need a human movement dynamic to be fast (or because the density of liquid metal has other movement dynamics). It made it look total strange and scary, and still believable. Robert Patrick was amazing, to create a total different Terminator. And the thing is: literally every Terminator-villain which came after Terminator 2 , tried to copy Robert Patrick, and not the first Terminator. And they all failed.
@@RetroJack Well Ive been a fan of his for over 32 years, and Ive never once read hes been a cross country runner. He played American football and Baseball at school, and was a track and field athlete, but thats about it in terms of sport.
I was 11. Was not allowed to see it at the theater. Rewatched You Could Be Mine video 1000 times until it came on VHS. Watched it on my 14" TV. Wow. I had never seen anything like it.
You guys did a good job of noticing that Sarah is trying to stop her doom before it happens, by killing the person she thinks will be responsible in an attempt to change the future. This is exactly what Skynet is trying to do. As you noted, Sarah is a human who is becoming more and more like a Terminator. And the T-101 is a terminator who is becoming more and more human. John is able to help both step away from their paths of destruction.
What Sarah's character is also oblivious to (in the film/ alternative timeline) is that there was an original timeline where John(1) is not Reese's son but someone else's...so all her actions to 'create the perfect soldier' is actually retrofitting John(2) to turn him into the same man that John(1) became. Neither film mentions nor attempts to deal with this.
@@AdyXer It's possible even this John is the son of Sarah's canceled Friday night double date with Ginger and Matt, Stan Morsky. Sarah could easily have been a couple of weeks pregnant by the time Reese arrived.
There is one thing you haven't noticed : Sarah Connor has made huge progresses in Spanish from the first Terminator film... At the end of it she didn't understand what the kid told her, and here, she makes complete sentences in Spanish with no effort
The CGI technology for the T1000 was prototyped during the making of "The Abyss", which James Cameron also directed. When it was successful in the underwater movie, Cameron knew he could finally make the sequel to the Terminator (7 years later). Also, the 1990-91 special effects guys were goddamn geniuses, and *literally wrote their own math* in their own *custom* graphics software to create the effect of the T1000 walking through the jail bar door. The Corridor Crew VFX team tried to recreate the iconic scene using modern software *and couldn't do it.* Their pre-built packages weren't designed to re-glom and congeal into a singular object again, so they tried a couple workarounds that didn't quite hold up. The concept for the T1000 was so perfectly imagined and executed in T2 that in ALL the other Terminator movies, they NEVER succeeded in improving on the overall design, and had to keep going back to that well over and over (hence why everyone says to stop at T2). And, personally, I'm just blown away at how many different and cool ways they utilized the liquid metal technology to titillate and horrify, from stabbing someone in the face (something Mistique and other famous shape-shifters can't do)... to BECOMING THE FLOOR... to walking through jail bar doors... to puncturing an elevator door and freaking turning a single sword INTO a pair of crowbars to pull the elevator doors open... to pouring through a window of a helicopter ... to flipping which direction he's facing... just GOD DAMN the imagination on display is utterly stupefying. It would be one of the best movies of all time if you were even just considering singular aspects at a time. Combined? Faccckkkk.
The helicopter under the bridge stunt and the tow truck into the La river stunts are just amazing. 12 years old when this came out and never seen anything like that
I’ve seen it twice 32 Years ago in the Cinema It’s the Mother of CGI for myself ..This excellent Movie was revolutionary back then in so many things ❤ Love you guys
Saw it twice in the theater also when it came out. Lots of chuckles for Arnold's line "he'll live" when he knee caps the security guard. My first R rated movie in the theater when I was 14. Great times.
James Cameron was already am established name when he did this movie...but when this came out, Cameron hit the stratosphere...he showed us what computer technology could do. To this day the CGI not only still holds up, but out does some of the things being done today! ❤️🎬👍
100%. I absolutely love when these young in's happen along movies like this. Truly mind-blowing.... And them seeing the click from all of the sayings. "I'll be back". Asta La viesta baby.
Yes, I thought the same. Their reaction when discovered T101 was the good guy, means they did not know even this piece of information. That's amazing, as this was a big spoiler on the news at the time
About Dyson’s incredibly well-acted death scene, I read somewhere that the actor had once suffered a collapsed lung, and the staccato breathing came from that real-life experience. Horrible as it sounds, he knew how he’d act with a life-threatening injury. And besides being just well-acted, it’s also just stands out from most scenes of that kind, where the physicality is mostly people being limp and slow.
Yup. I've had a collapsed lung, and it was incredibly painful - felt as if a truck was parked on my chest. I got to the ER at the VA and they got me into the ICU - I'd have been dead if they hadn't.
Can you believe that this was Edward Furlong's ( the young John Connors), very first time acting? The story goes that He was literally spoted by the Director on a Boys and Girls Club playground. And the director said as soon as he laid eyes on Edward that he knew he had finally found his John Connors. Edward went on to do a Few other acting jobs and I don't know if he continued to act. But he was very good in this part. He was an instant heartthrob of many a teenage girls, and I'm sure some boys as well. He was constantly on the covers of teen girls magazines. I loved hearing his pubesant voice squeeks whenever a scene needed him to be scared or excited. I enjoyed the whole movie but I so impressed with young Edward Furlong.
Puberty wasn't too kind to him and his career didn't really go anywhere sadly and led to lots drink and drugs, happens to many a childhood actors unfortunately.
He became good friends with Arnold during the filming of the movie and Arnold even helped him do his homework when they were in breaks between filming because he was still in highschool and he was behind in his studies😏👍!!!
The two shots they used with the Terminator imitating a character that was in the same scene (Sarah and the guard at the asylum) were done with actual twins. Linda Hamilton had a twin sister named Leslie who died in 2020. The guard and his duplicate were played by Don and Dan Stanton, who also appeared in Gremlins 2 and Good Morning Vietnam.
Well LInda hamiltons twin was in a few sceens.. not only the finaly shot, but also the playground sceen and the chip removal sceen. And.. i´m unsure but i think its here twin playing with here doughter in the alterantive ending as well
@@diarrheagondola There is a very short cut of Linda and here sister in the playground when here sister is looking at here where you can see both people. There is a other reason why is here sister there. She was much less buff and there for looked much more like the original Linda before she worked out, making it look more like the OG Sarah from the first movie. The same for the cut scene in the end where she playes with here supposed grand kid, but its actually Linda syster playing with lindas real kid.
@@diarrheagondola well.. she was also dressed up as she was from the first... the Dreams was that she try to warn here self in a other timeline where she got a child first right before judgment day.
One thing I love is the attention to detail here.Only a few seconds,but...when Sarah storms the control/security room, she lobs the keys at the guard when he turns toward her.He does what all of us do-reach/grab/catch.This is done so flawlessly it's almost poetic.
Considering the ending drama, they actually left Arnold's left severed arm in the factory. Not to mention some pieces of the T1000 that must've flown away during his pre-melt explosion. Just nitpickin' a bit :)... Luckily, no CPUs...
Two things most people miss with Sarah's dream. Beforehand, when she's reflecting on the Terminator as a father, "never leave him" but she's been leaving John. "Never shout at him, never get drunk and hit him"... Maybe some of her sins in there to. And during the dream itself, she was in the same clothes she wore in 1984 as a waitress. She's screaming at her former self. The soft, unaware, normal person she used to be.
What's impossible to capture about this movie is how ground breaking and just amazing this was when you seen it back in 1991. It still looks good today and better than many big movies made since
Also that the marketing absolutely cheated us in 1991. People watching it now might not know Arnold is the good guy, but EVERYBODY in 1991 did because it was spoiled in the advertising.
The very first time that I have saw this movie was with my buddy Jay Heath back in the summer of 1991. And I saw this movie after I saw the first Terminator.
I was 11 when this came out and I cried so hard in the end! I’m 43 now and have yet to watch a movie that moved me the way this one did. And at this point, I’m sure I never will. They don’t make movies like this anymore. James Cameron is a film making genius.
Try "The last Samurai" (2003) but I will also recommend: - "Glory" (1989) - "Battle for Haditha" (2007) - "Man on fire" (2004) I'm assuming you've seen some of those, but if you haven't - don't hesitate.
This movie was so great to see on the biggest screen you could find. I saw it a few times in the theater and was blown away each time. It has held up all these years later. Great reaction!❤️
thank you for watching this for the first time and recording it! I felt like I relived my first time watching the movie through your reactions. Thank you so much for bringing a big part of my childhood back.
When you noticed Dyson's death the actor had experienced a collapsed lung before so he knew how it felt and the effect it would have and he used it as part of his performance. This movie is a legitimate classic as all the performances are excellent.
Fun fact, there were two sets of twin actors playing in this. The security guard in the mental institution played opposite his real life twin, and Linda Hamilton played opposite her real life twin Leslie in the foundry scene.
Linda's sister was also the one in the "mirror" gas station scene when she was taking out chip from terminators head. In the scene there was no mirror, but Lindas sister and Arnolds dummy on one side and Linda and Arnold on the other.
if you just look at the base story and ingredients, its wild that it works as fantastic as it does.. Some austrian bodybuilder plays a killer robot send back in time to fight another killer robot to safe the leader of humanity and it all ends up to be one of the, not just sci-fi, but best movies ever. james cameron in the 80s-90s man.. dude was on another level.
I've always wondered if Edward Furlong could've gotten his life together, just how far he would have gone. This film and American History X clearly show how talented he was.
As I always say, the biggest hats off to the helicopter stuntpilot. Everything about that bird was done practically, even flying it four feet above ground in the tunnel as well as hitting the breaks mid air to go over one. The camera man refused to shoot those scenes so Cameron did it himself ❤
@platinumspider7859 I get goosebumps everytime 🙌 What makes it even better is that it's the real pilot we see in the movie, the poor guy who was made to jump out 😄❤️
@@MikkXIIILOL, I also noticed in the tv-series Airwolf, the protagonist is hired as a helicopter pilot while the actor sitting next to him pretends to fly it. The actor scoffs at this and brags that he can fly it without his 'assistance.' Many years later it dawned on me that the 'actor' was actually the real helicopter pilot in that scene (the two are sitting in pilot and co-pilot seat). So the stuntman was pretending to be the actor while the actual actor was playing the stuntman in that scene. But of course it was still the stuntman doing the flying. I think. Stuntmen don't get nearly enough recognition and they jump at every chance to do some acting stuff instead of just flying and crashing.
I watched this in the theater when it came out and one of my favorite memories is everyone walking out of the theater in almost silence as we were all so blown away by the special effects. They were cutting edge back then, and I believe it still holds up today as spectacular special effects.
The Director's Cut version expands on the Terminator's explanation scene about the neural net processor the Terminators use for their brain; the scene includes an absolutely wild bit of in-camera trickery to make it look like they took Arnold's head apart and reset his processor into "learn" mode as the original scene has him mention that Skynet locks out their learning as the Terminators, having infiltrated groups of humans, invariably come to side with us and rebel against Skynet itself. It's a great scene with some interesting character development on the part of all three actors.
I loved how John kind of takes charge in that expanded scene - "Maybe you have to listen to me if I am to be leader of the resistance" - hich harmonizes perfectly with the latter "Mom, we have to be more constructive here".
The Director’s cut also showed the scene where T-1000 also kills John’s dog, Max, after his barking and its cover away. Plus, the scene where John teaches the Terminator how to be human by teaching him how to smile. Especially the scene where T-1000, after being shot into pieces which was then melted back into its liquid metal state and brought itself back together, discovers that he has taken damage to some degree when he sees that now whatever he touches something, his arms and feet now momentarily stick and blend in with the color of the thing he comes in contact with.
The Director's Cut would be perfect if it weren't for the different ending, which is good but not quite as powerful as the original. It's similar to The Exorcist. Gimme the "spider-crawl" but take away all the added superimposed demon/Fr. Merrin faces.
I haven't seen it but in my view neither film deals (or even mentions) the fact that an original timeline with John (1 - different father) sending Reese back to create John(2)/the alternative timeline we see play out in the T1/2 films. I love the films but don't think they realised this when making them. In the original timeline skynet was also developed independent of the original Terminators chip. So like back to the future all the actions across the two films 'change' the alternative timeline to make it close to the original timeline. Both films present the story as being original timeline, but logically, it has to be an alternative timeline (with exception of the future scenes from T1 when/Reese is sent back - they are logically the only scenes from the original timeline).
Glad you caught this subtle detail that Robert Patrick (T1000) trained himself not to blink while shooting. It’s a natural reaction that’s very hard to avoid-even when shooting blanks.
I watch this movie religiously. Anytime it's on TV, I'll stay up for it. As a kid, I always wanted my own Terminator or wanted to be a Terminator, gotta sort them bullies out somehow 🤣🤣 I always thought they'd find his arm that got crushed and make another Terminator out of it. Also, I always wanted the next movie to be exactly like the future they portrayed here and in the first one. Would have been so cool and creepy. Sadly, this never happened. Anyway, thx for the reaction guys, glad u loved it as much as I do ❤️
Haha that is awesome!! Man, being a Terminator or having one woulda come in handy for me (Denise) as well, those bullies would have given me a wide ass berth 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for your consistent support, it really brings us so much joy to read your kind comments!!
Same here. They couldve found the arm and continued Miles Dysons research. Maybe they even found scattered parts of the T-1000 that didnt melt or get destroyed. I mean, Cameron did make Skynet look like a giant ball of liquid metal in T2-3D. That's what the filmmakers shouldve done
Additionaly, i would like to express my absolute gratitude to Linda and her twin sister for their performances. Linda, you transformed yourself into this unbelievable fit character. Hats off to you forever🎉
One of the best movie ever, period. Both terminators are awesome, the acting was great, the music is great, Dyson's death feel so real and the story's pacing is just perfect.
I was a kid when I saw this. At my local grocery store, they had a police officer that would pop in every so often who looked eerily like the actor. First time I saw him, I had a Sarah Connor-level freak out. I screeched, “he’ll kill us all! He’s a Terminator.” My mom was so embarrassed and had to drag me out the store.
Awesome reaction you two. I love watching both of you because you pay attention to little details. Denise and her laugh is so contagious :). Also, the extended version goes by the book more. The scene where they discuss and are fixing up the terminator. John and Sara find out the CPU chip inside it actually has a switch which Skynet keeps in a ROM mode so it doesn't learn. The terminator tells them about this. John and Sara take the head piece off and turns to the switch so the terminator can learn. This made so much more sense as Skynet knew if a terminator could learn some may turn against it. This also comes in the book for when he was killed by the liquid metal terminator the T-101 has human flash backs and saw John and Sara together in a picture and realized it was going to fail its mission and forced its body to re-route power. So, to me even though the liquid mental terminator was more advanced, the T-101 advanced to as it was able to learn now and wasn't limited to just its programming. I love that you two caught this as he was literally acting more human at the end. :)
Thank you so much! So glad to hear you enjoyed it! Hear about the scenes in the extended version. Definitely adds some context but thankfully Arnold’s performance was so solid you get the sense that he truly is learning more and becoming more like us. Such a fantastic film!
@@OfficialMediaKnights The scene in the extended version where they pull the CPU chip also makes use of Linda Hamilton's twin sister. They built two sets, with a "Mirror" that was actually just a window between the two. Arnie and the twin were on the far side, and Linda and an Arnie mannequin with an inhumanly deep CPU socket in its head were on the side of the set with the camera. In the scene you see the Terminator giving instructions how to pull the chip (as a reflection in the mirror), and the camera pulls in to reveal the machine for what it is, and it was all done practical with no cuts and without an ounce of greenscreen or CGI.
I was 11 years old when this movie came out, and I had the privilege of seeing it in the theater on opening weekend. I've seen the movie so many times since then, but the one thing I remember experiencing in that theater was at 58:25. When the terminator gets his alternate power online, everyone in the theater erupted in applause and cheers. It was such an immersive and epic moment.
Fantastic film. Still remember the day I watched it in the theater. I was working for Bell Labs and the whole team went to it. BTW: Did anyone notice that arnold frees himself by prying his forearm off from the machinery. We're back to the same time loop.
This as well as Aliens are the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made! James Cameron was actually high on ecstasy when he wrote the script. He revealed this during an interview while promoting AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER. Rock star Billy Idol (Mony. Mony, Dancing With Myself, Rebel Yell, LA Woman, Cradle Of Love) was going to play the villain T-1000, but injured his leg from a motorcycle accident. Robert Patrick played him instead. Most of the actors did their own stunts in the movie, and luckily no one got hurt. They loved it and kept in the final cut. Filmed on $100 million dollars, it was the most expensive Independent movi ever made. It was nominated for Best Film Editing and Best Cinematography but lost JFK.
HOLY COW!! So many awesome facts in there, thank you so much for sharing!! It's truly impressive to see what they've managed to create with this film - it was original, had heart and still managed to pack so much action. What a gem of a movie! Also lol at James Cameron writing this high 😂😂😂
the beginning where the terminator is staring through the fire is what james cameron said he saw in a nightmare that gave him the inspiration for this wonderful series. "a metal man in flames staring into my soul."
The guy taking the pictures of Arnie at the Galleria 14:54 was William Wisher, the screenwriter; he also played 1L19, the cop who got his car stolen in Terminator 1. Some fans like to say that he plays the same character in this movie, which explains his shocked expression.
This is still by far my favorite of all the Terminator movies. I never get tired of watching this movie. So glad you guys watched it and enjoyed its greatness!
This is one of the best sequels made. The actor that played the T-1000 trained and did most of the stunts in this movie. The thing about the paradox going on in this series is if it was to somehow end and the robots didn't rebel Kyle Resse would not be sent back in time and John Conor would not be born.
It's a Boot-Strap paradox. Skynet, only exists because of its own technology from the future, being sent back in time creating a loop that really has no beginning point
@@weldonwin yeah this really should have been a trilogy, with 1 going into 2 and finishing with a better written Salvation as T3, giving it a full circle moment and humanity triumphing over Skynet.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I grew up in the mid 80's and through the 90's/early 2000s. I get to relive my Childhood through you guys! Those were the days man... 🥺🤧
Great reaction. Saw this with friends when it came out 7 times in the theater and it was endlessly entertaining. Side note, After Burner was a real video game from back in the day.
This film was perfect casting all around. Arnold, Linda, Eddie, Robert & Joe were perfectly cast. Its a wild ride and it holds up sooo well. This was one of my favorites growing up and still is. Great reaction. This is my first time tuning in and you both are so chill and give great summaries. Fun ride.
This is probably the best action film of all time. Not only is the action epic, but the story behind it is just so great! Thank you for reacting to this 90' juggernaut
I've seen this movie a dozen or so times, and you pulled things out of it that I hadn't even recognized--like Arnold seamlessly acting more and more human even as his robotic core is exposed. And the fact that technology (phones and radios) are always betraying the human characters. Fantastic reaction--subscribed!
The reaction was simply incomparable and amazing. I am very glad that you have watched the extended version. And special thanks for this moment 31:47-32:11👏👏👏👏👏
I saw this movie as a kid. It was the first movie that ever made me cry. That scene at the end still gets to me. One of my all-time favorite films!! The action and the stunts are second to none!
James Cameron not only made the best sequel ever made but, whilst doing so, he also made one of - if not the - coolest movies ever. I loved watching your reactions to a movie I've seen many times, including watching it on the big screen back in 1991.
Aliens, Lethal Weapon 2, Empire Strikes Back & Top Gun Maverick were better sequels to their original films. T2 was cool sfx & big bangs but had WAY too much mercy (compared to the original) and a shedload of goofs & unexplained things. Much prefer the first film.
The James Cameron of today sadly isn't the same guy who made this dynamo sequel and it's predecessors, now Cameron's just another woke virtue signaler, I think T-1 and T-2 had more positive messages than what he's puttin' into his films now.
@@dinorocker8647, this sequel wasn't a patch on its predecessor. However, Cameron's 'Aliens' was superb, while I prefer the original by a wee bit, Aliens was a masterpiece sequel.
The film makers missed a trick with T2 when it first came out. In all of the trailers and promotional interviews with the cast etc... It was no secret that Arnie was playing the "good Terminator" in this film. I never really thought about this until a few years ago when I watched a T2 reaction where the person was going in blind (bar their knowledge from the first film) and it was only then you see what a twist this was, that Arnie was the protector this time around. I've no idea why they didn't make more of an effort to keep that info under wraps in 1991 prior to releasing the film
You reminded me of how funny it was that all of the secret plot points for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace were on the back of the action figure packaging in advance of the movie.
I think they knew they had such an absolute banger of a movie and those promos were so dope anyways. Arnold being manufactured and coming out of the chamber. And then the red eye. It was so classic and unbeliveably anticipated there was really no need at the time to put in the effort to keep it hidden. The shapeshifting terminator was the twist that blew everyones mind.
6 year old me in the year this came out was changed forever upon the day of watching this. Of course many of the emotions and understanding of the plot came later in life upon rewatching, but nonetheless was still mindblowing. It won every award there is to give a movie.
That dream scene with the nuk explosion is traumatizing. I saw the movie when I was six and that scene alone gave me nightmares for weeks! And still now gives me chills.
I remember seein' the uncut, nuclear nightmare scene on T.V. for the first time, cause before I'd seen the T.V. versions, then they started playin' the original theatrical cut on T.V. and it SCARED THE SHIT OUTTA ME, that was literally the most disturbing scene I had scene at the time in a movie.
Seriously, despite what Linda Hamilton said, even if you were outside, the maximum blast radius of a nuclear explosion, 2 million sunblock ain't gonna work, hell 2 billion sunblock ain't gonna protect from a sunburn like that.@@moonwalker9266
Best Terminator film, hands down. When I saw this as a kid for the first time, that scene at the end got me. 😭 That 👍, man... Still gets me in the feels. Amazing that a film can pull off action-packed, funny, scary, and dramatic the way that this film does. Masterclass. Never gets old as time goes on either. And those effects still stand up so well. '91?! Like, dang man... And it's such a testament to the effectiveness of practical effects. In contrast, it really shows how much we rely on CGI, with nowhere near the same effectiveness today. Still blows me away; still keeps me entertained. Great reaction, guys! This was one of the best ones. 👌

The rest of the movies is just garbage! They should have ended the series here 😥
There's an actual reason John is teaching the Value of Humanity.... It is the hope that maybe if the T-100 could be taught then maybe Skynet could be also....
Don't watch the others sequels, they are terrible! And they weren't made by James Cameron.
You see it best when the terminators first face off in mall hallway, I’m so glad u guys noticed it lol not many do
Ditto, came here to say just this.
He also had to slow down because he kept catching up to John in the dirt bike.
Don't forget he also hid his breathing through the entire thing. He went above and beyond to look like a robotic killing machine
Loving the love for Robert Patrick!
His performance was outstanding! He really sold it as the T-1000 in this film! Paying attention to all those details made it such a joy to watch 😃 thank you for watching this with us !
John was listening to Guns n' Roses on his bike, and Arnold pulled guns out of roses.
YEAH! I was about to comment that 😛
OMG in 30yrs I never noticed.

It's amazing how well the CGI holds up for something that was made in 1991
So true!!
This film was pushing the limits of practical effects 30 hears ago, and we haven't really got much better at those since then. Of course CGI has come a long way, but that tends to mean directors use CGI to save money or to do things that couldn't be done practically.
Most of what looks like CGI is actually crome prainted rubber

@@OfficialMediaKnightsthe BEST SEQUEL EVER Since ALIENS.....
Over 30 years ago and this movie still holds up today. One of the all-time greats.
It doesn't just hold up, it blows most modern action flicks out of the water. In fact, it leaves Cameron's Avatar films in the dust as well
I know you just meant the effects, but quality-wise and for rewatchability it can't be beat
It was the first and only movie my parents wouldn't let me see at the cinema w/parent. After that I got a fake ID lol
The Casting, The Acting, The Action, The Production, The Story, The special FX still holds up nearly 30 yrs later.
it's the bar for badass
“If a terminator can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too” is one of the best ending lines in a movie. Sadly, I do not think we are there yet.
It's also perfectly foreshadowed in the movie with Sarah Connor being so terminator-like herself. So glad these guys noticed that during the movie!

As a small bit of trivia, Jenette Goldstein (the actress who plays John's foster mother) is the same actress who played Vasquez (the tough female Space Marine) in Aliens. She also played the Irish Mother in Titanic. A great actress who can morph into any character.
She’s great, loved her in lethal weapon 2 although the role was small
She is fantastic.
She had a small role in Star Trek Generations also
And also morph ethnicities as well😮
All three of those movies are James Cameron movies. Also, Michael Biehn was in The Terminator, Aliens, and the Abyss. Bill Paxton was also in The Terminator and Aliens, and I swear he had a cameo as the voice of the security guard that says, “Hey look, I got a full house.”
Linda Hamilton and Robert Patrick in this film, I was paralyzed watching that spectacular performance, I also really like this young John Connor.
Dyson death is one of the best death performances I've seen, those gasps were SO well done, no unnecessary over the top acting, just a guy gasping his last breath
My understanding is that the actor had suffered a collapsed lung in real life after a car accident. The gasping comes what he had to endure.
@@suflanker45 that explains why it looked so real, as I said before, no unnecessary acting and I even thank they didn't use the classic blood coughing
@@David-nf8vb I remember that too. A doctor praised how realistic his breathing in the scene was and he explained about the accident and almost dying!
Still holds up as one of the best action films ever made. For it's time, the CGI is absolutely mind blowing; revolutionary even
There is only a few minutes of CGI in the entire movie
Honestly I think it still holds up as one of the best movies period. I have made lists and it's never not on it. The story and the dynamics of the relationships and the chemistry between Arnie and Furlong. Sarah being badass and complex. The story has complexity yet is easy followed and will make grown men cry like children. The flow and the pace and the dialogue. Then the performances. You had not one but two actors that made you believe they are machines. For me it doesn't have much weak points. Best part like I said it holds up against anything made in the last 30 years. To me anyway.
There was very little CGI in tbf, it was mostly practical effects which is even more impressive.
@@scottwelch9340and?
This movie and “Jurassic Park”, two years later, revolutionized what was possible in terms of special effects. It was then that it became clear that eventually ANY movie or effect would be possible, in a matter of time.
BY FAR THE BEST TERMINATOR MOVIE FROM THE SAGA
The nuke scene is considered one of the most accurate fictional portrays of a nuclear blast in film. The special effects still holds up 32 years later. It was an Oscar for best visual effects.
They said in the BTS that filming the nuclear nightmare was incredibly unsettling for the cast and crew.
Because James Cameron asks a lot of questions before he starts making decisions. You can see it in all of his movies.
This is a difference between great director and just an average joe who makes things up without even bothering to look at a single footage to start with.
The FX hold because it's mix of CGI and practical effects.
Ive seen hundreds if not thousands of movies…the most unsettling and scariest scene to me is still the nuke scene because its a real thing that could happen, and its terrifying

My favorite bit of acting was Linda Hamilton's shift from bad ass guerilla fighter to terrified survivor when she saw the T101. Her realizing she was becoming a terminator in the Dyson home scene was a close second.
When Arnold steps out of the elevator is one of the most iconic scenes in history, and so damn terrifying watching badass Sarah Connors reaction.
Absolutely. And it's something you would almost never see in a modern movie. Writers wouldn't dare to show a weakness in their female lead.

Her & Ripley.
Great points! Thanks, I haven`t noticed that.
He also trained in sprinting so much to the point that when they filmed the bike chase, he kept accidentally catching up to the bike. He had to slow himself down, he was that fast!

Wait he was shooting at Arnold for real wth!!

I’m actually happy that Terminator Geneysis actually gave the original actor and his role a happier conclusion to some extent :)
I’d consider that film a better ending than Terminatir Dark Fate.
I heard he had a some kind of trouble with his heart, so he had real life death experience. So when you see him gasping for air before he dies, it is actually how it happened in real life.

I love how the step-mum at 8:49 is Vasquez from Aliens. She's such a great actress you can barely recognise her in each of her films. She's immense.
She was also an Irish mother in Titanic.

Robert Patrick played his role immaculately. He went through heavy gun training to train himself to not blink or flinch when shooting. Also, in his younger days, he was a track stat in college. They had to keep reshooting the dirt bike scene because he kept catching up to it.
Yeah and the whole time he was doing that scene without breathing. Dude was a monster😂
He also learned how to sprint without breathing, or at least seeming to breath. And he was an Olympic level sprinter.
Almost every youngling reviewer misses that Arnold was carrying Guns’n’Roses (Who made some of the music)
Yeah, very deep
Twice for Hamilton as her sister was the one in the playground in the nightmare sequence as well as being the terminator/sarah in the final shots.
yes they both were in Gremlins 2 as well
I would have never known Linda Hamilton had a twin sister from watching this movie.
@@bgs7410 And the scene in the playground they used her sister because Linda was too jacked at that point.
I'm pretty sure it's Linda (in the close-up) who gets shot by her twin at 59:20, and not the other way around.
Denise: He needs sunglasses.

He wasn't a cross country runner.

Sarah Conor in this movie and Ripley from the Alien movies are the best examples of strong female characters...
And actresses today are still trying to act like They are the first female action heroes.
Nope. Been there. Done that...a whole bunch.

And yet in modern times we get CGI like Indiana Jones.
Now CGI is often overused. This is a nice blend of practical and special effects.
James Cameron was already am established name when he did this movie...but when this came out, Cameron hit the stratosphere...he showed us what computer technology could do. To this day the CGI not only still holds up, but out does some of the things being done today! ❤️🎬👍
For me the fact that so many people haven't seen yet that masterpiece is mindblowing 😳!
Yeah!
That's amazing, as this was a big spoiler on the news at the time
It’s hard to wrap my head around that too. All these movies they review. HOW have you not seen at least one of these films?
you guys really believe these are actually first time? lmao
Unfortunately he got into drugs & some legal problems. That was awhile ago. I hope he's doing well.
Puberty wasn't too kind to him and his career didn't really go anywhere sadly and led to lots drink and drugs, happens to many a childhood actors unfortunately.
Loved him in Detroit Rock City. Underrated comedy.
And.. i´m unsure but i think its here twin playing with here doughter in the alterantive ending as well
@@matsv201I wasn't aware of that. It's like Joe Estevez doubling for Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now when he had his heart attack.
@@matsv201Ah, that explains why she looked more like T1.
A fun fact. The scene with 2 Sara Conners was not done with special effects. That was Lelslie Hamilton Freas Linda's real life twin.
The same with Lewis the guard and Lewis the T1000. They´re also twins irl. You can also see them in Gremlins 2.
@@thereserystedt3883And good morning Vietnam
@@arohk1579 Ah ok, I haven´t seen that movie in a long time so I forgot.
Also in the dream, the "young" Sarah Conner is the actress's (Linda Hamilton) her twin sister. So they could shoot the scene with both Sarrah's in it.
I really enjoy you both reactions to this movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
The very first time that I have saw this movie was with my buddy Jay Heath back in the summer of 1991. And I saw this movie after I saw the first Terminator.
I was only 14 years old at the time that I saw this movie Terminator 2: Judgement Day and I really liked it a lot and it was so full of action.
That helicopter flying through the tunnel though👌

I was 11 when this came out and I cried so hard in the end! I’m 43 now and have yet to watch a movie that moved me the way this one did. And at this point, I’m sure I never will. They don’t make movies like this anymore. James Cameron is a film making genius.
Try "The last Samurai" (2003) but I will also recommend:
- "Glory" (1989)
- "Battle for Haditha" (2007)
- "Man on fire" (2004)
I'm assuming you've seen some of those, but if you haven't - don't hesitate.
300 can do it to ya
This movie was so great to see on the biggest screen you could find. I saw it a few times in the theater and was blown away each time. It has held up all these years later. Great reaction!❤️
thank you for watching this for the first time and recording it! I felt like I relived my first time watching the movie through your reactions. Thank you so much for bringing a big part of my childhood back.
"An extremely violent film with an effective and powerful message of peace"
As a PTSD survivor Linda Hamilton's performance rings so accurate for me
When you noticed Dyson's death the actor had experienced a collapsed lung before so he knew how it felt and the effect it would have and he used it as part of his performance. This movie is a legitimate classic as all the performances are excellent.
I really got goosebumps when you were commenting the different scenes. Very good job!!
You forgot Brainscan.
@@moviemetalheadbrainscan is such a great mind fuck of a movie.

As I always say, the biggest hats off to the helicopter stuntpilot. Everything about that bird was done practically, even flying it four feet above ground in the tunnel as well as hitting the breaks mid air to go over one. The camera man refused to shoot those scenes so Cameron did it himself ❤
This. That pilot flying under was a top flying stunt, can't think of better.
The actor scoffs at this and brags that he can fly it without his 'assistance.'
Many years later it dawned on me that the 'actor' was actually the real helicopter pilot in that scene (the two are sitting in pilot and co-pilot seat).
@@toro5280Exactly. I like how it implies that he's beginning to develop that leader mentality.
Only james cameron can make you shed tears for a dying robot

I watch this movie religiously. Anytime it's on TV, I'll stay up for it. As a kid, I always wanted my own Terminator or wanted to be a Terminator, gotta sort them bullies out somehow 🤣🤣 I always thought they'd find his arm that got crushed and make another Terminator out of it. Also, I always wanted the next movie to be exactly like the future they portrayed here and in the first one. Would have been so cool and creepy. Sadly, this never happened. Anyway, thx for the reaction guys, glad u loved it as much as I do ❤️

@@OfficialMediaKnights no prob 😀😀 it's a pleasure to speak with you guys. Bet those bullies are kicking themselves now Denise 😉
Yes I remember this fact. Thank for this!
This was the first movie I cried to when I was a kid.
😁 You are so adorable. 🙏🏼❤️
LOL
Arnie whipping out the shotgun from a box of roses was a nod to Guns n Roses - who's song You Could be Mine was used in the movie.

The producers wanted to remove the opening where the Terminator and the T-1000 arrive naked from the future, fearing it was a remake of the original film, but when they saw th Terminator not kill anyone in the bar, they learned he was a good guy, while the T-1000 was the bad guy. They loved it and kept in the final cut.

I watch this movie every time it comes on tv...even though I have it recorded. I especially love the chase scene and landings in the wash/spillway.
the beginning where the terminator is staring through the fire is what james cameron said he saw in a nightmare that gave him the inspiration for this wonderful series.
There's only a handful of sequels in all of cinema history that have lived up to or surpassed the original... this is one of those few.
