    The stepdad being a good guy showed a new trend in Hollywood that I think started with Mrs. Doubtfire where Pierce Brosnan’s would-be stepdad was a good guy. Before then it was a common trope the hopeful stepdad was always awful in some way (a cheater, abusive, etc). What I am curious about is if this trend was the result of many of the writing staff having grown up with stepfathers/parents or an overall reflection of society and the public perception of stepdads.

    When Audrey approaches Fletcher on the tarmac at the end of the film, before the police officer steps aside so she can approach him, you can see Carrey in the background playing his character Fire Marshall Bill from the TV show "In Living Color."
    There are some relatively big Carrey dramas you could do, like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Man on the Moon, but as far as comedy goes, I really hope that you guys check out one of Carrey's most underrated but very funny major '90s movies, The Cable Guy. Directed by Ben Stiller, written (uncredited) by Judd Apatow, starring a ton of future famous comedy stars. It was a box office misfire, one of the only ones in Carrey's '90s hot streak, and this movie was considered a return to form, but it's a great movie, and I think people without the same expectations of Carrey as they had in the '90s can enjoy it more easily (you'll see what I mean when you see it).
    (I also really don't think either of the Ace Ventura movies have held up very well for various reasons, and I recommend skipping both of them -- I would second Me, Myself & Irene instead.)

    • @Falcun21
      @Falcun21 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mawangshallhang The Ace movies were not "sensitive" enough for people nowadays. They might see something that they find offensive and get their widdle feewings hurt. Never mind that those movies are freaking hilarious from start to finish.

    • @tylerfoster6267
      @tylerfoster6267 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Falcun21 I mean, it's subjective. But even Carrey has gone on record saying the villain in the first movie was a bad idea and that he regrets that material, and was on record even back in 1995 that he did not want to make a sequel, only did it out of contractual obligations, and disliked the experience. It's the reason it took 20 years for him to make another sequel to one of his movies...which, who knows how great he felt about that in the end too, although I thought that one at least had its moments.

    Cary Elwes went through a weird career shift sometime in the 90s and I don't know if I should feel bad for him? He used to be the handsome leading man, but here he's the weenie stepfather. He's the usurper/Jafar-type character in Ella Enchanted, he's the slimy mayor in Stranger Things. It's so weird to me.

    For more Jim Carrey, I'd recommend Bruce Almighty. Used to watch it a lot as a kid and I remember it being pretty good. I'm not even a Christian and I thought it made for a fun time. Another Carrey movie I think was surprisingly good (although I don't remember much about it beyond my general impression of it because I only saw it the once within a year or so of it coming out) is The Number 23, which is a rare dramatic film starring him in the leading role.

    In the U.S. The prosecution is legally required to share all exculpatory evidence and information being brought to trial that is material against the defendant. It is known as the Brady Disclosure after a Supreme Court case. The Defense is not under the same legal obligation to share information.

    This came out when I was ten, and it's still one of my favorite comedies and probably all-time favorite Jim Carrey film. As I've gotten older I've only grown to appreciate more and more the fact that not only is he incapable of lying, he's also incapable of suppressing the inner reactions he has to the world around him, the kind of stuff adults feel in their heads all day long but can't express, e.g. doing a flying kick through a stairwell door to get away from your boss lol. The fact that he's playing this relatively down-to-earth character instead of a giant cartoon like in Ace Ventura or The Mask makes this stuff even funnier.
    Will also add that back in the 90s, there was a lot of criticism directed towards Carrey that all he did was make funny faces. I'm glad to see that's largely gone as people have recognized the dude has chops and that what he was doing was never as simple as that.

    As to sharing information, in the US it's known as disclosure. Both sides are allowed to rebut the others evidence and witnesses and the jury is to decide the case. If either side withholds information, a mistrial can be declared, in which case the whole trial will start from the beginning, including selecting a new jury.
