Extremely underrated pianist - one of the greatest alive today, his volume of repertoire is unbelievable and his ability to interpret music is immaculate
I know nothing about how well a pianist performs a particular piece. All I know is that how Sokolov does it is my choice for saving a piece to my library. I keep wanting to hear this piece again and again.
that's a good choice Sr. You will discovering step by step that actually Sokolov is one of the best in playing Bach or baroque style. If not straightly is the best
Based on what I've heard from Sokolov I'd expected a slower, sort of grand fugue at the end, safe to say I was surprised - and blown away - by what he produced
The parallels between the second movement and Rachmaninoff's Vocalise are fascinating. I wonder if Rachmaninioff was thinking of this piece when he composed it.
_The BIG problem with YT is that almost everyday I find a new performer and many times they are better than the last! Mr. Sokolov's Bach is impeccable, perfect in every way! I see that he has the GoldBergs on YT, this way I can place him for sure! 😎
I'm sure your sense of the newest being the best is quite common for many. I posit that it has to do with the human tendency to give added value to new things-thus part of why kids are so happy, as everyday brings something new. Our latest "new" restaurant" will be the best until we tire of it and find something "newer, better." Good comment. Perhaps others will opine.
@@ADGO Listened to Partita' beginning and shortly to other performances on TH-cam. Sincerely, Adgo, felt a strange sensation of Nothing, of void, inconsistent (please, do forgive my basic English). On the other day, Yudina's tempi were fully lived, or, if I listen to anything from let's say Pletnev, even the most elongated tempo sounds true, inspired...lived, just created freely at exactly the right moment!
Hey, Micaela, I have seen your name quite a lot. Just want to make your acqaintance. This is horrible sound (in my headphones) but lovely music. Sokolov is the last one to fight conformatism. Still I am a conformist, liking bad things like Yuja Wang and so on....at least in her Brahms piano consert nr 2.
I don't know. Mixed feelings. No questions he's not just a good pianist, but exceptional master. But is this Bach? That I can't say. These 2 are more Bach to me: th-cam.com/video/WialMe-8zaU/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/4e-038y10lM/w-d-xo.html
Yes, he has gotten it done!... Unfortunatelly bad recorded...Such a great performance had to be recorded very well...Americans would make out of this Recording, an Icon, we'd hear in Commercials etc...Russians don't think that far, allthough they've got better artists... At the end, Mr. Sokolov CAN play Bach...At the toppest Niveau!...A great pianist.

Sokolov is best known to Prokofiev fans (a fandom made up of about 100 people)
He isn´t underrated at all!
Underrated? By who?
The history of the Universe in 8 minutes 👌
I can sympathize with this. Is there any deeper theory to this as well?
The fourth movement is the best version I have listened
He is wonderful. Has always been.

NOBODY plays this Toccata beetter than Mr. Sokolov, nobody! It brings tears to my eyes.
Glenn Gould played much better - every Bach piece.
@@mikematics LOOOOL
I got to admit, that was a banger.
This Toccata is one of Bach's absolute best - and Sokolov gets it right! A moody and contemplative work that must subtly hint at nuances.
Moody - yes! It totally knocked me over first time, I heard Sokolov playing it.
❤
The fugue portion is a masterpiece.
OMG his interpretation of the fugue! he is totally invested
Beautiful Bach playing.. artistic and full of emotion.. fugue was amazing
Finally...!!!The entire video this piece by Sokolov!
Thanks God, (and ADGO)!
it seems also of better quality than the other shorter versions
He makes clear that undercurrent of pain and longing, you find so often in Bachs music.
Thanks a lot for this audio-video👏👏👏👏
I still remember his impeccable touch in Bergamo.
Adorable genius.
Ohne Worte...
What a fabulous interpretation of such a great work.
Splendid historic document.
I never tire of watching and watching again. This video is simply amazing.
Thank you, Adgo, for the precious often hidden pearls you offer us all.
Make me feel less desperate of meeting true profound musicians...
An extraordinary performance! Such pathos and brilliance.
Wow ‼️❤️❤️❤️🔝💪👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The best!
He is exceptionally excellent! Thank yu
So so so beautiful. Sokolov touches, no, pierces my heart every single time.
Thank you so much for providing the complete version. The momentum in the fugue and overall command throughout is simply breathtaking.
Based on what I've heard from Sokolov I'd expected a slower, sort of grand fugue at the end, safe to say I was surprised - and blown away - by what he produced
Beautiful playing and great energy. The last movement is played great, with gentle sound, quick and nice staccatos....and a nice brisk tempo!
Masterful performance of one of my favorite pieces. You can hear the hammers almost plucking at the strings
Bach is out of this Universe.
Thank you so so much for sharing, Masterpiece transcended by a Master 🙏
Equally excellent with Glenn Gould. Amazingly Superb!
That's how Bach used to play it.
AMAZING, INCREDIBLE...! Thank you veeeeryyy much.
Such intensity!
Fabulous performance!
Superb as always
The whole thing, finally! Thanks a million!
Great playing, thanks Tony
Thanks a lot!
Exquisite!
Strong stuff! Thank you, ADGO - and Sokolov.
Wonderful!
Bravo. Few Toccatas can evoke this kind of emotion. Overwhelming at times…
Bravo sokolov! genio
Bach always amazing from Inmortal
Maravilloso, único e inimitable. ¡¡Bravo!!
Gracias!!
Fantastic
Loved it, what’s more to say
4:32 is out of this world
Bravo! Closest to organs and harpsichord sound I ve heard so far❤️
I cannot think of any Bach composition that does not adapt to both the organ and piano.
Same here! It knocked me over the first time - for a week!
Greatest Bach pianist in history! A tad too early for me here though. But still... jesus christ.
Excepcional...

Once upon a time when pianists felt free of taking all necessary time for phrasing, colouring...
Have you seen the video of Anton Batagov playing Bach's Partita 6?
@@ADGO No, will be another of discoveries through your suggestion!
Well you might not like it :) Years ago I loved it. It's a little more distant from me now but I'd love to hear him in recital one day.

the only one who could "discuss" with Gould
JUST when he is about to launch the Saturn V in the left hand, the camera moves to the BALCONY!? I hope somebody went to the Gulag for this.
God
The last minutes, and the simple theme under and over lot of variations. Damn
What else did he play at this recital?
This, the Beethoven Sonata 4 I've just uploaded, and Chopin's op. 28 (I don't have this).

Tausendmal besser als Glen Gould.
The first movment is much too fast.

Harvey Keitel still plays it better.
I hate this guys so much he just butchers the whole toccata
