This is something that Mark, and frankly a lot of car reviewers, seem to have a hard time understanding. I live in MI. A hard-edged driver's car is going to be great...for about five minutes. If I'm driving something every day, I want it to ride well, be refined, and not punish me for wanting to drive it. The C7 wasn't terrible at that, but the C8 seems to take it to another level.

You guys knew you had to get this one right. GM must've blindfolded their accounting department while they developed this. I hope they sell a million Trax's on the back of the C8
Not really, no. If you read some articles, GM explains how they were able to do this. It’s basically dispersing all of the research and development costs over many years and many different types of models.
@Mar Blox multiple people have seen them on the road yet. As in, thousands and thousands are already out and driving. They started making them in February I think
They’re a group of GM haters. That was almost ridiculous to say solely because it’s GM you should get a warranty. I don’t know any manufacturer that’s produced a vehicle of this caliber and level of performance that you wouldn’t want a great warranty for. To say GM doesn’t have a history of making reliable cars was a very far reach. I see why GM doesn’t work with these guys, they’re biased.

Toyota is one of the biggest car companies on the planet and you are right to say their excuse of not building a sports car because it costs too much is laughable. They could have easily put way more engineering and power into the BRZ and made it into a Japanese M4.
Toyota knows they won’t make the money back on a dedicated “enthusiast” car. Probably also the rest of the corporate culture looks down on the performance engineering division beyond putting TRD badges on highlanders. Gotta admire GM and Mazduh for trying
You are correct, BUT When toyota engineer their cars, they put all their effort and money there, instead of producing Fleet shitboxes overpriced and unreliable, to make enough profit to build a nice sportscar so people forget they produce overpriced shitboxes. As the owner of a C7 GS 7sp manual I must say you just confirmed exactly what I have suspected for a while. I live in KY and attended the "release party" at the Corvette Museum. The engineers were there answering questions. I pressed several of them with specific questions regarding the C8's handling and the more specific I got the more I was convinced it was not a better driver's car. Not one of them would come out and say anything bad about the new car but I left the event with the feeling that the C7 was the superior handling car based on the things they would not say. I also felt this same way when track times were released and they were only marginally better than the C7. It never made sense that the C8 is so much quicker in a straight line, with a quicker shifting transmission, new tire technology etc. was only getting marginally better lap times. To me it was further proof that cornering speeds in the C7 had to be higher. All this being said I am glad the new car exists and I have high hopes for the future versions but your video makes me extremely happy I did not trade my manual trans C7. BTW the video quality and cinematography was horrid. Don't quit your day jobs. ;-)
I have a dear friend, a former (Engineering) Director with GM, that has both a C7 and a C8 (not too mention a couple of other Corvettes) HE would agree with your statement entirely. Off the record, he's not terribly fond of the C8 design, aside from it's good looks, and "promises" that transmission troubles lie directly ahead for anyone who really drives their C8, aggressively !!
The C7 was a beast in the handling/cornering department so there really wasn’t much to improve on, you also have to keep in mind this review was without the other performance packages/models, wait until the Z06/ZR1/hybrid models come out, GM couldn’t of made the base C8 a perfect car, thats what the performance models are for. I have heard otherwise though about the C8, I’ve heard its one of the best handling/cornering cars of all time... way better than the C7 so take that with a grain of salt. I think people are just being nit picky, the base C8 looks and drives better than 98% of sports cars/exotics out there all while being more reliable for a cheaper price.
I actually own a C7 Z06 manual car and a C8 HTC Z51 automatic and I would disagree. The C8 out handles my C7 but my C7 Z06 is brutally more powerful. The problem being it has a problem getting all the power to the ground and the C8 has no problem. They are both great cars but I’m never selling my C7 Z06 it’s the last of the manual cars. 0:02

I watched every suckup c8 video under the sun and still learned new things watching this one. I could go on and on about how first MY videos praise the shit out of every car... they are like disguised marketing material.
They “miss” out on GM participation because they don’t fanboy all over these cars. If you watch the video closely, especially the end, you cannot escape that the C8 is underwhelming at this step. In the track it had track alignment, gyrodisc brakes, and a custom exhaust, yet a stock C7 GS with a manual DESTROYED this thing. Those are just the facts of the review.
Great idea on #2. Savagegeese - on the next video about the C8, could you have a GM performance engineer talking about the car, how improvements were made, and the different performance related available packages, like the Z51 package that have a PROFOUND effect on handling and braking?
@Thundrune I feel that the C8 used in this video was NOT a good example to use against a highly developed C7 Grand Sport, as the C8 used did NOT have the factory Z51 package on it; as he discussed, this package contains numerous components that affect handling and braking. Instead, Savagegeese used a C8 with a FEW owner modified components, and there is no way of knowing if this is what a GM enginer would have done. The Z51 package is much more complete and, given a C8 Z51 and a stock C7 GS, I feel that the results would be in the C8 Z51's favor..This video was not a fair test and handcuffed the C8. It was like taking an older Mike Tyson and putting him against an Golden Gloves champion without any training on how to handle boxers like MT.
In GM's defence, I believe they will eventually do a twin turbo model with this one. They gave customers plenty of room for that application back there, but i think they want to test the platform for a few years and fix any weak points before producing one with a warranty to boot.
While most brand skim R&D on their sports cars, I’m glad GM is still passionate about this small niche segment. Yes, I’m still bitter at how Toyota/Lexus are doing things.
They probably need this for the halo effect since all of their other product are utterly pieces of shit. Toyota doesn't need a sports car to be successful. "Well... it's a knockoff Ferrari 458"
How is that a bad thing???
Money can do a lot.
I'm not much of a fan of American cars, but the C8, Bronco, Pacifica, new RAM 1500, etc shows what the big 3 can create when they put some fucking effort into it.The more I learn about this C8 in particular, the more I'm impressed with it and GM.
Seems they want to be mediocre
If only they would make an racing version of the Sonic.
"that's what makes this a far batter street car than a track car" - well that's exactly what we want Mark. 90% of the average Joe's watching this channel, that are also car enthusiasts, and hope to eventually own this as a pre-owned, don't go to the track. Beautiful looking Corvette, I imagine it would shine in the twisties.
Great review sir!
I live on a twisty road, and I see a few different c8s ripping down the road regularly. I wish I had one to drive lol, but I still have fun pushing my Elantra irresponsibly fast
If you want a track car buy a dedicated race car.

Not really, no. If you read some articles, GM explains how they were able to do this. It’s basically dispersing all of the research and development costs over many years and many different types of models.

@@mybro727 What about Ferrari? Does it make great cars? Yes. Does it make reliable cars? No. You are confused with performance and reliability. You can deny GM's history all day but its history doesn't change. You're biased.
@@theussoul Now _I’m_ biased? Smh. What a joke. I’m not here to argue with a cult of delusional critics that want to mull over the alleged “history” of a brand and it’s “bad reputation” because that’s the only controversial thing they could muster up about this car. Instead of being transparent, unbiased, and honest with this review and admitting this car will be much easier to maintain than a Ferrari Italia, Acura NSX, Porsche 911 Carrera S, or Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and will be a fraction of the initial price and what they’ll pay over the course of ownership. In case you haven’t noticed, this ain’t Ferrari. The only person that’s confused and biased is *you.*

Toyota: it costs too much to make our own sports car, we need to partner with Subaru and BMW.
Gm: we made a mid engined Corvette for 60k
Mazda: we developed a specific platform for a Miata even though we're a small company for 25k
Toyotas excuse is bs
Toyota is one of the biggest car companies on the planet and you are right to say their excuse of not building a sports car because it costs too much is laughable. They could have easily put way more engineering and power into the BRZ and made it into a Japanese M4.
@Nissan370Z Glass They have more than enough bank to take chances and still be a very profitable company.
Toyota knows they won’t make the money back on a dedicated “enthusiast” car. Probably also the rest of the corporate culture looks down on the performance engineering division beyond putting TRD badges on highlanders. Gotta admire GM and Mazduh for trying
You are correct, BUT
When toyota engineer their cars, they put all their effort and money there, instead of producing Fleet shitboxes overpriced and unreliable, to make enough profit to build a nice sportscar so people forget they produce overpriced shitboxes.
I drive a 2020 Duramax Canyon Denali. I like it very much, but it is an overpriced shitbox.

Best and most thorough review that I have seen. Very well done.
I think people are just being nit picky, the base C8 looks and drives better than 98% of sports cars/exotics out there all while being more reliable for a cheaper price.
ok but the new zo6 is gonna have 345 width tyres and 670 hp. That should fix any laptime issues I think lol

@Nissan370Z Glass this, I think this makes the video amazing. They did not take a car from the automaker like all the other guys do so they could give an honest review and it shows!
I was REALLY expecting Turbowski to come out for this one
He appears to be gone.
In GM's defence, I believe they will eventually do a twin turbo model with this one. They gave customers plenty of room for that application back there, but i think they want to test the platform for a few years and fix any weak points before producing one with a warranty to boot.
komahoby He was talking about Scott Turbowski. Not turbocharging lmao

They don't need to make the new supra, it wouldn't even happen if they weren't working with BMW. None of this is the manufactures fault, is their job to be profitable. People can rant all they want but the customer's behavior is the most honest and the fact is nobody is buying sports cars. Just be happy that some manufacturers are still making them.
Because people care about the corvette and it will SELL more than anything Japan can even dream of.
@@sunsinger970 its because chevy needs this to cover up all the other pos they build. the Japanese capture that crowd back in the 90s and now they don't need sports cars to sharpen the brand image.
@@Larkc-ty5sz No, this will outsell the Supra 10 to 1. The Japanese don't make cool cars anymore, other than a few Lexus models.
@@weedmastersr you know why, cuz its their job to be profitable, and they are more successful selling reliable cars. take away the c8 what is left of chevy? A pile of shit. Chevy need this to go well, Toyota sees the supra as a passion project, it wouldn't even happen without BMW. They will be just as successful with or without the supra.
The Grand Sport version of this will be epic. Though for road use, which 90% of the owners will do, this is already epic. Cant wait to see them in Europe.
its a gimmick
@@anonjohnnyG I've got a GT350 so I'm no Chebby fan but these seem more appealing than a GT500
@@RCXDerp They basically destroyed the vette pedigree with this car. Automatic, mid engined and soft. The stangs are still within their lineage. They should have had this car as a new model not a corvette. They made the same mistake toyota did with the supra.

@@sulfuricanaljuice3994 yea true, at least for now its a different model but well see what happens. I dont drive american cars either way though lol.
As a 2020 C8 owner I will say hat is one of the best videos I've seen. Pros and Cons were fair. I have the Z51 package and plan on tracking it -- but until then, man, I am a rock star. I live in a town approaching a million people an have yet to see another C8. Everywhere I go people get excited about. Thumbs up, picture taking, flashing their...... maybe not. Ceramic gray, shiny tridents - pretty cool.
How do you find the rear visibility and getting in and out of the driver seat? Is the center column of buttons something that an owner would get used to? Thanks.
@@69FOSTER rear visibility is not a big deal if you have the 2lt package i would recommend getting something 2lt and above due to the blind spot monitoring even though i can confidently drive it without it the peace of mind of having it is worth the extra money. also getting in and out is not difficult at all once your used to it
@@titostacos114 Thank you, good to know rear visibility is not a deal breaker. I would probably opt for the 3LT package. BTW, I love Tito's Tacos in Culver City.
Mark come one, you're supposed to pan the C7, especially the Manual transmission version; gotta bring those resale values down so I can snag one cheap second hand.
Edit: delivers C8 final thoughts in a GT500.
I think the corvette is having a midlife crisis
That's probably the most fitting description I've read when it comes to it's exterior design.
And that midlife crisis resulted in a lobotomy
as is tradition
@@SavageTriple7 whatever happened to sticking with what works? It's already been proven that chasing the youth market is not a long-term sales recipe. Scion tried it and now they're gone

SG your review was worth the wait and all the commercials. No one is doing this in depth and unbiased review. I'm not a C8 customer but I may be in the future. Thanks
I work at an Autozone, I had a Boomer come in yesterday wearing a Corvette shirt and hat, buying C5 parts. I asked him about the C8 and he immediately scoffed, "It's too European, I don't like any of that crap." Absolute gold.
Facepalm
that's hilarious. imagine not knowing the history of your own car
@@HallsoftheSummer Corvair, right? Damn Ralph Nader..
It will be European expensive to maintain.
It's a good thing that the C8 is controversial among boomers. The less old fat blokes I see clogging up the left lane going 10mph under with gaudy chrome wheels, the better the Corvette's reputation will be and the less common it'll be.
Awesome way to start my Friday! Morning coffee and Corvette it is.
Me too good sir
It's refreshing to hear your honest opinion. Seems like you enjoy driving the C7 GS much more. Makes me want to go hop in my C7 Z06 and take it for a spin!
The cinematography soundtrack & content blow me away....absolutely great review Sirs!
On the manuals: GM claimed 13% of C7 sales where manual, but (from memory) some company actually checked based on the vin's and it was more like 23%. I think the final 2 years where the lowest manual take rate though.
I think the C8 is great, but basically not interested in an automatic, even if it's a good one.
GM wanted a reason to put that flamboyant, spaceship nonsense of a center console.
@@j.3854 Some have said it's the best layout they've seen. I think probably once you get used to it, it would be a good design.
Dolby109 I understand the love and loyalty towards a manual but you are missing out on a fantastic car.
@@pauljohnson962 If it had a manual it would very likely be the most fantastic car for the money. But without one it isn't, the Cayman, or Camaro SS/ZL1 1LE, or GT350R is.
23% manual take rate is the number I've seen from three previous sources. Of course I cannot cite them (when it would be helpful, like now)
Gotta love that Predator sound effect when the camera switches to B&W!
You just sold a lot of C7s.
I think this one is 2020's most awaited video on TH-cam✌️✌️
Atleast for automotive nerds.
Move over TH-cam rewind.
This car is incredible. I can't believe they did this for 60k.
4:51 "they nerfed a race car and turned it into a street car"
Well color me impressed, Jack is a gamer!! I wonder what games tho... :)
World of Warcraft for sure
Some real car guys giving the C7 love when everyone else is bagging on it compared to the C8
It’s crazy how nice and how bad C8’s can look. That white one looks incredible
Mark and Jack great job on this video, Very well done, very smart how you showed what the C8 is like on the track, and then show what the C7 is like on the track. I know everyone likes to bash GM but I have always been a Corvette fan since I was a kid. I think Jack's C7 is great, looks and sounds very nice. I will say I finally went and saw the C8 in person on the road and at dealership. What a bargain, What a great car. Sad GM can't have this quality in all their products. So for now at least the C7 is the drivers car, but I am sure GM will keep making improvements to the C8. I like both of them. Corvette is America's supercar.
Love it or hate it, you got respect gm for what they did. They couldve just made the same front engined low volume sportscar and keep selling SUVs for profit but they still invested on this platform
31:16 Jack Singapore, waiting calmly, at a traffic light.
That in itself, is a first.
How are you knocking out this insane amount of high-quality video? Rapid fire & on-target. Well done Sirs.

love the detail and structure of these reviews!!!! I haven't seen anything quite like this in terms of discussing each component of the car :)

If Savagegeese is impressed then you know you've done something right!
Good job GM credit where credit's due 👏
Did you even watch the video? They were impressed by the technical achievement at the price but they called to car soft and not a driver's car.
subbed. not even a corvette guy - but let's take a moment and appreciate what these guys do with all their technical in the shoppe talk. thank you!
"Affordable Supercar of The New Millenium"
Except for the maintenance costs because it is mid-engined lol
Mike McGlock As someone who’s family member who works at Chevy and has worked on the c8 already, it’s actually incredibly cheap!
@Mar Blox your looking in the wrong places......
@@jsiszero what maintenance costs? My C8 first oil change and trans fluid change was $400. See what that costs in a Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, or Lambo.

How can an "Icon" such as a Corvette be labeled a "knock off" WTF??? The Corvette is a LEGEND. Chevy made us (American's) Proud by building this new Corvette. Bravo Chevy.....Bravo 👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Whoa, get that flag off your private parts right now!
This car has ZERO in common with last years corvette except the name.
If you think that LEGEND comes with the name you should be so excited about the blazer. (Embarrassing POS)
@@CrudeOilisOrganicYouKnow i disagree with you. Yes the new Corvette is "new" but the fundamental idea of an affordable sports car that dates back to the 50s is still there and that's what makes the Corvette a legend to this day. As for the mentioned Blazer? That proves GM isn't perfect haha but they got the Corvette right 👍
And my Flag is flying outside my house not my pants by the way 🇺🇸
@@eppyz I think that what they are referring to is that because they went mid-engine, they are trying to copy the big guys, McLaren, Fiat/Ferrari VW/Lambo but you are correct about bang for buck, Way ahead of anything in it's league. Amazing engineering. The C7 still looks better to my eye but technologically it's light years behind. Great video, guys!
This is a great weekend cruiser in 5 years when it's half the price.
Nick Tran it will hold it’s value and never ever ever dip below 50k unfortunately. Any c7 is hard to get for less than 40 even a 2014
Shit I’m still over here waiting for C7’s to dip below $30k
moldyrefrigerator exactly my reply!! Read it. This c8 will never ever ever ever dip below 50
moldyrefrigerator high mileage c7s still getting 38-40k. Even c6 grand sport getting mid 30s
5 years this piece of shit transmission is probably going to be dead. And GM being what it is now, probably even less time than that
The shot at 30:52 shows how much meaner the C7 looks. C8 looks like a generic Ferrari 458 sold at Walmart.
😂
This was a brilliant review of the C8. I have watched and read such nonsense that this is just refreshing. I race a corvette in a professional series and bought the C8 as a weekend sprinter for track time to keep the senses where they need to be to remain competitive during the off-season. I believe this was educational and now I know to keep my expectations in check.
So it's built like a Lotus! Can only be a good thing.
I've hit a point in my life where I can buy one of these cars, I should. I'll wait until something other than the base model comes out.
Good job man, enjoy it when you get it!

Even w/all the superlatives the C8 has to offer, and having seen them in person (although never driven one,) if I were shopping Vettes, I'd still likely buy a C7 Gran Sport instead.
Lee Spector just before Covid ’s delayed announcement, I purchased what was possibly the last C7 GS 3LT in north central Florida. Had driven Porsches since 1985. Love my C7.
The amount of understeer was probably intentional to avoid the spinouts under-qualified drivers would accomplish if it was a tail happy mid-engine setup.
Learned my lessons in an MR2 Turbo, 400hp at the wheels, easiest car to spin out evererererer. Still miss that thing.
Learned my lesson in an air-cooled VW bug, on cobblestone road in Wildflecken, Germany (wintertime).
With Savagegeese, who will still need the grand tour which took forever to release a new season...
Great work!
0:13 is so satisfying because it's true... it's all about the clickbait.
I'm not convinced I would get a C8 over a C7. The C7 sounds better, has manuals, and just seems more raw and connected. Outright speed is one thing but every car is getting faster, but are they getting more fun to drive?
With C6s being so cheap now, why not have both! Ha
C8 looks more fun to drive and has the benefit from being faster as well.
Man, the tech info in these videos is awesome. Other channels are talking about how people "feel" in the car.
The c7 takes it for me, I appreciate the c8 tho.
fIrST!!11!
In all seriousness, love your content guys. I really appreciate the excellent cinematography, as well as the amount of detail that goes into each review of a vehicle - especially the deep dives (even on plebian cars) that really scratch my technically-minded itch.
