@@GregBurgess360 That's usually how it goes isn't it? 90% of guys who call 911's overrated have never driven one or have very little experience with them. There's something for everyone with 911's and usually hardcore car guys don't even get a chance to ride in a GT3/GTS let alone track one. I think that's when everything changes and you can't deny the superiority of the 911 platform as a race and street car.

This is totally lost on most modern automotive engineers. The quest for Nurburgring lap times, 0-60 times, the CAFE fuel economy, emission and noise standards has forced manufacturers to go with turbos. I like turbo cars, but most of them just don't sound great. Having to work the gears to keep revs up is a very satisfying experience, and one that sadly is becoming rarer. Go find yourself a nice NA Porsche or BMW and rev the shit out of it in a tunnel. If you even have a pulse, the hair on the back of your neck will stand up, and you will smile inside. I am fortunate enough to to do this on a nearly daily basis. I will roll the windows down, even in the dead of a Chicago winter to enhance the experience. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

I love my GT3. I daily it, and it is a sad reminder that this era is over......one quick thought on the review that I think was missed: as a Daily, it's not about 'chasing the redline', it is about how connected and mechanical the car is. Like winding a fine watch, there is pleasure in small tasks. The engine makes pleasing sounds in every band of RPM. And the sounds change every 2K RPM into something very different. The shifter has a meatiness that is absent in non-GT porsches...each part shows a harmony at 2/10ths and 3/10ths and so on. When you do play with the car, it is a whole other level. Sounds now become 3-4-5times louder, engine wails, brakes, shifter, all of those facets focus the car into something I have never seen outside of my race-car. And then you come out of the turn and put it into 5th gear and the car is a daily again. It's magical.

I had a 992S and a GTS on order, I just couldn't justify spending $75,000 more for almost the same car. But knew if I wanted a GT3, this is the game I had play !! My dealer sensing my reluctance happened to have 991.2, GT3 w/ MT, 6,500 km and buckets, I bought it. Wow, what a car! There is no comparison, on every metric this car is so much better, as a sports car. The crazy thing is, it's even more comfortable in the city with potholes and bumps. The only downside is drives where at cruising speeds it's revving higher. It's so good, rewarding, fun to drive, and a special car that never lets you forget. I can’t imagine how a 992GT3 could be better. I tracked my 992S for two years and loved it, but this GT3 will be something else. Great review that I saw before buying my GT3, love this channel!!

    - Then the SG showed me the error of my ways and I gained a whole new world of insight into the Porsches and their engineering. Thank you for this cultural revelation, dearest SG. I never thought I would look at Porsches at such deep respect and insight.

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!!! After almost a year of waiting, this video popped up on my feed! Fantastic job! As a 991.2 GT3 6MT owner, some comments: 1) the sound that the 4.0L makes between 7500 to 9000 rpm is an experience like no other. 2) The manual transmission is the best in the business, bar none. 3) The take rate for the 6MT should be a wakeup call to Italian manufacturers that we want a proper manual transmission back. Ferrari/Lamborghini have become technical exercises in speed, and have taken the driver out of the experience. 4) The .1 engines have finger follower issues that will depreciate the car dramatically when the engine warranty expires at 10 years, 120k miles. 5) The engine is remarkably easy to access and do maintenance (oil changes for example). 6) For all the marketing around the 992 GT3 being better, the reality is that the lack of gas particulate filters, better brake pads, and better exhaust sound make the 991.2 the better driving experience. 7) The car delivers on an emotional level far higher than the spec sheet would suggest 8) This is truly one of the all-time best sweet spots in the Porsche lineup and the 991.2 is a modern classic 9) The party line is that they didn't have money to develop the MT initially but this is also conveniently very smart marketing to get the PDK accepted in the marketplace and then to satisfy the enthusiasts later with the MT. You really think Porsche couldn't make a MT from the start?? 10) Can you guys make a video of B-roll with no talking and just the sound of the engine revving up and down in a separate video?

"We will never change the layout of the combustion engine", wasn't expecting such a strong statement about that, but good on them for making it clear where the direction is going in the future as I heard a lot of talk about them changing it due to the race cars moving more forward.
    Great content!

Both 991.2 have aftermarket exhausts (6:58 white one has what looks like Soul, red one 27:27 look at the exhaust tip size, that is not stock), and the 991.1 has the stock center muffler 7:09. That's where the sound difference is. Stock for stock, 991.1 has more rasp at 8.5 to 9k than the 991.2 does. I bet that roll cage'd red 991.2 also has a DSC sport v3 PASM controller in it which really helps track manners and street manners, not a ton for the 991.2 which comes with good pasm software out of the box, but changes a ton the character of the 991.1 which is bouncy out of the box - you can set up the 991.1 to feel better than the stock .2. Both .1 and .2 have rear helper springs.

Damn, you guys are doing the.1 dirty. The 3.8 also has Ti connecting rods, dry sump, etc, and of course that .1's stock alignment wouldn't feel as great as a track prepped .2. I agree with the PDK and ride differences between the two. The .2 shifts and rides smoother...if you're into that kind of thing in your track car...

    • @flat6memories

@@ArtVandelayOfficial there is quite a bit of misinformation in this video… the 3.8 also has Ti connecting rods, dry sump, etc. The suspension is also the same. I’m not faulting their opinion, but the facts they share on the gen 1 are simply wrong. Nothing triggered about my comment. The 991.2 is a better car…
      Have a wonderful day!

Bravo guys. This is a wonderful video on an awesome subject. I know most people say 911’s are overrated and too expensive but honestly, when you find the magic behind the “special ones”, and that’s not just the GT cars, you can’t help but fall in love.
