This is my all-time favourite Bach cantata,and a great performance from the Munich Bach Choir and Orchestra conducted by Karl Richter,and my favourite soloist in this recording is Peter Schreier [also a conductor],has a greatest voice,especially on track 10,in which is my all-time favourite.
Yes Peter Schreier died on Christmas Day 2019. He is a wonderful voice indeed. He had such a lovely confidence and warmth in his voice.

The most marvelous thing about this music, is that includes 19th salm, "Caeli enarramt gloriam dei". Love it
The 8th/14th movement is just a miracle, although Bach composed many, that is something truly special… defies time or “period.”

I’ve said it before in Richter recordings that he had a wonderful direction of his brass players. There is always that bright affirming and articulate playing. Sadly the choir doesn’t quite come over as well at times.
I love the sound of Richter's choir. I can't define it but it has a certain 'natural' or 'raw' quality that others lack.

That's why I regret how seldom one finds boy trebles like here, whom Bach himself had, as they have purer tone, going together far better with the tenors and basses than the adult trebles of either sex, but especially countertenors; I seek, hopefully not in vain, for boy trebles for all of Bach's cantatas.
The sinfonia is a transcription of a slow movement of one of the sonatas in trio.
It is likely the opposite: the sonata is a transcription of the Sinfonia.
It is very much a viol-style trio you might find in Gibbons or Marais or Praetorius even in a more modern Baroque style. One of his most beautiful instrumental movements.
